[Q] wifi calling... - T-Mobile LG G2x

ok, so this might seem kinda obvious, but i want to know for sure. wifi calling has been running even when i'm NOT on wifi... is this right? and will i be able to make calls while connected to wifi if i uninstall it? only because "cell standby" has been eating up battery for some reason for the past couple days. i'm rooted running cm7 / mazout360's 2.6.32.60 kernel / wolfscript on this g2x. i'm pretty sure that the 'omdaclient' apk isn't here anymore as well... any input would be much appreciated!!! :fingers-crossed:

I'm sorry, just to clarify....you're using wifi calling while NOT connected to wifi?

when i'm using mobile data and not wifi, wifi calling is still running and every time i try and force close it or even when i terminated it with the task mgr in wolfscript, it keeps coming back...! :silly: :crying:

Don't mess with it if you use it. Cell standby has nothing to do with it. Use an app to determine who is eating up battery. Sometimes dirty flashing CM7 would help.

I never experienced that, I presume you are seeing it in the notification bar?
Mine would go off if Wi-Fi got weak or network dropped which was not unusual.

@MANSA: to dirty flash would I just go into recovery and flash the same cm7 I'm running? And what about the kernel n wolfscript? Then can I use titanium backup to restore all apps n data?
@pmorrsn: when I'm in mobile data wifi calling is running in the bkgrnd and the icon is NOT in the notification bar...

Dirty flash is as the name suggests... flash the ROM over existing installation without any wipe out formatting. Then apps stay as data is not wiped. If it doesn't work for you (bootloop or frozen) you can wipe cache and dalvik and see if it would help, but usually you don't have to.
Today I dirty flashed CM7 over Mokee IS.
-- The noob says:
The g2x works best if you chant "humba lumba humba" while standing on one leg!

That's kinda what I figured as when I first started flashing I pretty much dirty flashed about 3-4 times before I figured maybe its a good idea to actually wipe the cache lol... but I didn't know whether or not apps n data would still be there. Maybe I'll try that in the next couple days if this wifi calling BS persists. Thanks!

Force close on android 2.3.7 stock rooted rom

Hey all, so its simple:
i wiped and went to stock, updated all the way, then flashed the rom just in case it would help. then i flashed the tetherfix and started restoring my stuff. the contacts would not restore using TB, but i ended up taking care of that thru my gmail account. now the issue is im getting force closes on my camera app, every time i open it it forcecloses, and i keep getting android.media force closes at random times.
add to that the fact that the facebook sync doesnt work(i have a decent work around for now), battery is disappearing at a ridiculous pace, virtually dead from 100% in under 8 hrs where i was mostly in class not using it, and the lack of the features from my favorite CM based rom, and i am pretty irritated about how this update's turning out so far.
oh and while everyoen was talking about getting better signal, im having issues with 4g dropping to 3g; it shows no signal but wont drop back to 3g, or goes into idle 4g mode tho connected, but apps that need internet dont take it off idle...finally, its not letting me update PRL or profile. this is on TEUV kernel, stock rooted rom 2.3.7.
Any fixes i can employ for now until CM or such rom that takes care of all the issues mentioned above, adopts 2.3.7?
ive also gotten a few times where i was getting core forcecloses and had to wipe cache partition to get it working again. cache and dalvik.
thanks
~ Ramy
Its probably because you restored literally every app you had backed up including system apps. So I bet you restored the camera app on top of the already installed 2.3.7 camera app. Clear cache and data for the apps that are force closing.
Also, did you have this 4g issue on the stock kernel? I ask, because if you are in an area with a weak 4g signal, running an undervilted kernel could decrease signal strength.

Generally restoring apps + data using TB from rom to rom causes more issues than (specifically FC errors) than it is worth.
go to the main phone settings, applications, manage apps, all, camera, then clear the data. now open the camera. never restore data or youll have issues.
Simms u pretty much saved me on that one thanks so mmuch
I cleared data for camera and for media storage and for now it seems to do the trick. Any wisdom on battery, 4g 3g thing, or prl profile updates? And to answer the question, on stock I didn't try the 4g but its worked fine on 2.3.5...finally what kernel do u guys recommend for best performance and battery?

[Q] Wifi+Data issues

Hey Everyone,
I seem to be having an issue with both my wifi and data connections.
Last night, my phone randomly stopped loading web pages. No error messages, no time outs, it just doesn't load web pages. The status bar and settings both display that wifi is indeed connected, and it has an IP address, but it won't load any pages except, oddly enough, www.google.ca. If I do a battery pull, the wifi works perfectly fine, that is, until I turn wifi off. If I turn it back on afterwards, it stops working again. Also, data will not work. My phone is a g2x running cm7 nightlies, with Faux123's kernel.
Thank you in advance!
Data is a known cm7 issue.

Had the same issue. I had to do a full wipe. Do not restore apps backed up with app programs like mybackup or you will have to wipe again.

[Q] Keep needing to reset Weapon G2x WiFi

I flashed Weapon v3.0 a few weeks ago (and wiped everything in CWM) and regardless of the WiFi sleep policy, I constantly need to disable and re-enable WiFi to get it to work after my phone's been inactive for a while. If I don't anything using the internet just times out. I came from xboarder's rooted GB OTA and didn't have this problem, and I didn't have this problem with CM7 either. Any help?
Use cm7 then its way better

I liked CM7, but I had that stupid APN issue so data wouldn't work, both on the RC and 7.1.0.1 stable. The APNs Backup/Restore app works temporarily, but I don't want to reboot my phone every time I do that. I'm probably going to try nightly 201 next, but I still would like to know why Weapon has this WiFi problem while I don't see anyone else having it.
Happens to me on cm7 regardless of sleep policy.
Didn't experience that problem, maybe try flashing an older weapon over it (2.8 or 2.7) and see if that works. I had 2.8 but was having a bluetooth problem and 2.7 is working fine for me.

I had this from a battery management app. Uninstall any you have and reset any other wifi related timed management to not managing wifi. See if that helps. If it does, reinstall the battery management app and don't set it to manage wifi. If that doesn' t work, reflash the kernel and rom

Doesn't that completely prevent your phone from going into deep sleep? Aka drain the battery ridiculously quickly.
I don't understand why HTC can't just get this right. I've never had any other phone that had trouble receiving notifications on Wi-Fi.

Same here. I tried every setting. Just have to restart my router every time before connecting. Annoying but working. And after the update the wifi signal is the worst. Much worst than before.
After updating to 4.04 I have the problem that connecting to my Wifi router is no problem, I get full signal (!), but actually using the network is nearly impossible! After using several apps and/or putting the phone in and out of flight mode, i sometimes regain a real connection, but in the morning or after returning home it's gone again...
The disconnecting in sleep mode and not always receiving messages I can live with, not being able to use Wifi at home and thus being forced to use 3G I can't. Anyone have similar problems and also know a solution? I'll try rebooting the router next time, could be a temporary workaround.
I have the same problem after the 4.0.4 update. Wifi signal is incredibly bad now when I previously did not have any issues.
Tried Best Wi-fi performance and its still not as good as the default settings on 4.0.3.
Anyone has any luck factory resetting their phone to restore Wi-fi functionality?

I have the same or similar issue.
My wifi disconnects every minute, even when the screen is on and when I'm using it. I got a replacement phone from T-Mobile and and replacement antenna cover from HTC but still have the same problem. My previous Nexus S and HD2 had no problems with this the wifi and the wifi disconnects on all networks I've tried so far so it doesn't seem like an issue with my router.
I tried a network monitoring app and the wifi disconnected over 350 times in 6 hours.
I am going to try this: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-work-around-wifi-disconnection-issues-htc-one-x-and-one-s

Wifi disconnect

Recently I have been experiencing Wifi disconnects every 2-3 hours. I have tried Wifi settings by clicking on connect, tried choosing forget and resiging in and tried the app Wifi fix but all the app tells me is it is "completed" but it is not. The only way I can get it back is to reboot but then it only fixes it for a couple hours. I thought it might somehow be connected to the rom (CROMI-X 5.2.4) though it has never happened with any rom before. So, I reinstalled a older rom (CROMIX 4.7.0) which was always stable for me in the past but it started doing the samething.

Go into setting/wifi/advanced In there make sure you WiFi region is set to your area... Try unchecking some or all of the optimization for the wifi... See if that helps, let me know.. As always thx lj
The only thing I have checked in Advanced Wifi is Notifications Wifi on during sleep is set to never. As for right region I.m not sure what you mean, my mac and ip address' are correct.
Check your router as well. In my experience routers cause a lot more wifi problems than people realise.
It's worth rebooting them every now and then. Also download wifi analyzer and make sure you aren't on a channel with a lot of neighbours.
DIdn't you have a NetGear router? The latest firmware was known to cause issues. Did you downgrade it?
I rebooted my router and I moved to another channel, so now I will wait and see. What I do not understand is when I lose wifi on the Asus I will ask my wife to check the wifi connection on her tablet and hers is fine?
Well guys, I did everything you suggested and it is still doing it. I am now running 5.3a. Has anyone everheard of the wifi just suddely breaking on the Asus? The reason I ask is that even though I broke my Asus warranty I do have a square trade warranty.

Try flashing back to pure stock from Asus or a clean install at least.
When doing a clean install but I want to save whats on my internal card can I just move /sdcard to my pc before I do a full wipe or should I move other stuff also? What do you suggest?

If you just wipe from TWRP it only wipes you apps and data. You won't lose any media stuff so pictures, music, videos etc will stay. You should do a titanium back up if you want to restore apps and data.
If you choose format you will lose all so yes you would need to backup to either your PC or external SD. But you don't need to format to do a wipe.
Did a clean install and now wifi no longer stops.
I am having another problem, playstore apps updates or new apps do not seem to ever finish d/ling, the blue line just keeps running forever. I have tried stopping and restarting but that does not seem to do anything.
Should I post this as a new question?
