[Q] HTC One X vs Nexus

Hi guys,
not sure if I should post this here
The Galaxy Nexus is out in South Africa and I wanted to buy it but then I came across the HTC One X (I loved my HD2 but I hated my Sensation so I got a Note that I loved but it's just a bit big for me)
The Nexus looks really good. But I would like the Quad core and Tegra 3 chip but seems that HTC made another bad phone? I don't want to hassle with a lagging phone or freezing applications.
Which phone is the most stable and comparing it in a few ways, the best?
Comparing like Menu Speed (and not stock vs stock but rather some applications and emails and so on), the GPU vs GPU and so on?
I did look at some reviews and looks like the Nexus has a better camera even if it's just 5mp but the LCD seems better on the HTC...

Both are (or at least will be) good phones. The thing to remember with the One X is that it has only been out just over a week and it has and will have some bugs. HTC are usually pretty good with their support for new ROM releases so I'm sure it will become the flagship handset it deserves to be in a short time

Had both handsets overall prefer one x definitely for the following
reasons.
Looks, design and build one x superior and lighter.
Camera one x again. In some conditions I found nexus pretty poor in comparison.
Browser one x.
Phone calls one x.
Email one x.
Screen prefer one x.
Battery life one x, nexus was very bad.

even if I browse their website to check for product support on the One X it doesn't work hahahaha...

Well stable would be the galaxy nexus however that's because the one x has a few issues here and there but all software issues which are being worked on and will be fixed in the upcoming patch, unfortunately HTC are being annoying and won't give us an eta, long-term wise one x is what you should go with hope this helps

I'd recommend you try and find somewhere to have a look at them both. I was in the same position as you but after comparing the screens side by side I decided to get the HTC one x. Personally I think the screen is probably one of the most important features of a smartphone.

i also been having a hard time choosing a phone even after having the one x and a couple of replacements i still going to keep this beauty...it will still hold it 's value and it is overall one beautiful phone to have

The HTC OneX beats the Galaxy Nexus in almost all categories (except timely updates).
What you have to keep in mind is it's better to get a phone with crappy software than crappy hardware since software can be fixed while hardware is unchangeable. I'm not saying the Galaxy Nexus have crappy hardware, it's just that the OneX has better hardware overall: better screen, better processor, better GPU, better storage, better camera.
Also, the software on the OneX is not crappy too. It's fairly wonderful actually, I got to play around with a unit and found no lag in the UI. It's the most fluid phone I've ever used.

I had the sensation and loved the phone until I started downloading applications and games and a lot of emails. The phone started getting really slow when opening emails or sms or anything else. Can someone please comment on this (someone who has loads of mails and sms'e and so on)
Think I'll take the One X and if I don't like it I should be able to trade it for a Nexus.
@Jac83 - Not really a lot of places that display's the real unit. We usually get dummy phones and have to look at it that way Some shopping centers does have the phones but only certain times so think I'll wait till the 7th and try to go to a place to view it

The laggy emails and sms? I've got loads of emails and SMS and of course there comes a time when it lags a bit. What I do is I empty the cache in the browser. My SMS never lags.
I'm currently using a 1GHZ Sony Xperia Neo, stock rom.
Get the OneX, you won't regret it

Try and see another Samsung with the AMOLED screen then if you can, because I found that I really didn't like it and that was a clear answer to which one to buy!

never had the flicker bug and i do not want to try and see if i have that. i had two handsets already and i am on my third one. it is a beautiful phone to have and i would highly recommend it to you. what i would suggest to you is get the handset from a network company or a dealer that if you have any faults with it that you can send it back straight away. i am now on my third one and loving it. so i hope you enjoy it if you decide to go with it in the end

I well get it on our Vodacom service provider. They have a 7 day policy. If there's any issues with the phone within 7days then they will give you a brand new unit. If it's older then 7days and I get an issue they will have to send it in for repairs or replacement depending on what HTC says (but this will take weeks in South Africa)
On your 3rd. Dam doesn't sound good. Why if I may ask?
Can you perhaps give me some idea or checklist that I can do to make sure there's nothing wrong with the phone because 7 days isn't a lot lol

sure. the problems i had were very minor to what others have been encountering but here it goes.
first was the rattling noise. even though it is not that big of a deal and not normally shaking my phone, knowing it is there did my head in.
second slight little gap were the power button was. again stick a cover over it and would of been ok. and i mean case not cover..but still knowing it is there would bug me.
third and this happened on my second phone power button became loose. so now on my third one. will say that all three times i considered going to the galaxy nexus. but i am sticking with my current one as it is working ok now and so far it feels more solid than my other two previous ones.
regarding a list of issues to look out for. look for flickering issues with grey backgrounds. ehh again the rattling noise(which should not be a big issue really), make sure that screen is not creaking and not have any gaps and so on.

htc one x screen is brighter den galaxy nexus.. when i touch the phone for the first time.. its screen really amazed me..

I am in the exact situation to you in that I went from Sensation to the Note which I love and am still keeping but I could live with something smaller for day to day tasks.
Its One X vs Nexus vs SGS3 vs other upcoming 4.7" screens.
I suspect I will wait for the SGS3 announcement, find I am underwhelmed and get a cheap second hand nexus.
If you are paying the same price for both then get the One X.

[Q] Upgrading from an Inspire/DHD, thoughts?

I've been using my Inspire since last spring and it's really an excellent phone, especially with custom ROMs and kernels. Build quality is excellent, battery is decent, at 1.2ghz still plenty fast enough for all my uses. It really does everything I need it to.
I've been eyeing up the HOX as an upgrade in June, but is it really worth it? Other than the new (gorgeous) screen and a faster CPU, it doesn't really do much more than my Inspire does. As a photographer, the camera isn't a huge deal to me since I'll bring around my DSLR if I want to get legitimately nice photos.
Someone is willing to buy my Inspire for $150, so money isn't the problem. I'm just afraid to drop my Inspire for the HOX, with some of the problems I've been seeing around here. My Inspire is rock solid: I've dropped it plenty and it still holds up, no weird screen issues, multi-tasking works... it seems like all the problems the HOX is having my Inspire doesn't.
Any thoughts from someone who's went this route? Thanks!

Just looking at the GHz number on a CPU alone is not a good comparison of how a phone performs. Older phones like the Inspire really don't hold a candle to the One X. The thing is perfectly smooth within the OS, and opening many apps is nearly instantaneous (that would take several seconds on my old phone). It feels a world apart from my old Desire Z (same generation as the DHD, just slightly slower CPU and less RAM). No, it won't do anything that your Inspire doesn't already do. But the One X is so much more fluid and snappy, it just makes for a much more pleasurable experience overall.
The strength of a camera phone is obviously not in its picture quality when compared to a DSLR camera, but rather in catching the moments when you don't have your "real" camera. I love a camera phone for catching the spontaneous moments with my toddler, when I don't have my DSLR. And for sending those pics by MMS to my wife or other family. For that purpose, the camera on the One X is spectacular. Just about makes point-and-shoot cameras moot, with the great picture quality and nearly zero shutter lag. If you don't use your camera phone in this way, the camera on the One X probably won't make much difference. But if you make any significant use of a camera phone, trust me, the camera on the One X will impress you.
The multi-tasking "issue" depends a lot on how you use your phone. For me, I don't run lots of simultaneous apps. Music Player or Pandora work fine simultaneously with Navigation, and that's about as much simultaneous apps I run for the most part. Browsers reload a little more often than they should, but the only (minor) annoyance I've noticed. But I know people have legit complaints about certain apps not working simultaneously, or things like games having to reload after getting an SMS.
My One X doesn't have the light leak on the screen that some have experienced. Hard to say how common it is. But I'm guessing most of them are fine. You can't really fault a new phone for a random defect, as all phones have some kind of defect. And you can always ask to power on at the store, and check for the light leak, if you're really that concerned about it. (they powered on my phone anyway).
The phone isn't perfect. But to me its just an outstanding phone. Wired magazine called it "the best Android phone you can buy right now, period".

My HTC One X came with the bottom of the screen peeling off [its sealed down with glue, so it can be removed to access the interior parts] but where I purchased it from in store, they replaced it right away with no issues at all. But the replacement unit I got works just fine. NOTHING wrong with it, which I love.
In comparison to the HTC Aria -> Sony X10i;
The X10 seemed to be much snappier than the Aria.
X10 -> HTC One X;
Wow. Just, Wow. The X10 had a 1ghz processor which I was content with, but having a more powerful processor was so nice. Angry birds on the old X10 was somewhat buggy, but I'm yet to have a stutter or halt with the One X.
The ONLY thing I must warn against, is the AT&T One X model, Because we have locked bootloader. Sure, a Root [which is so nice to have<3] but as far as rating goes, I have to give it a 7/10. ONLY way to get those 3 more points, Would be a custom rom and underclock. My phone already lasts the whole day with my usage but on days when I'm bored at work or on lunch break and want to watch a video, I'd like the power to pass the time.
So all in all, 7/10. Locked Bootloader, No custom roms are the only issues I have.
I do not regret buying the One X though. I purchased the white one because in store it looks flashy but any smudge [food, dirt, whatever] comes right off with a bit of pressure and your fingernail.

There's no need to upgrade from an inspire, unless you want to show your phone off. That being said, the difference is certainly noticeable inin almost all aspects. Personally I'm most imposed by the display quality. Battery life is a bit better when comparing stock to stock, but about the same to a rooted and custom ROM inspire. I only upgraded because I show off my phone a lot, especially to my friends who are phone salesman, and because I use it more than anything else I own

One thing is the same, crap speaker. What is it with htc and low speaker volume?

Thanks for all the opinions everyone! It definitely does seem to be a better phone in most regards, and as someone who is constantly trying to keep his gadgets as up to date and fast as possible, the upgrade seems obvious.
And, as dreid89 said, I sure wouldn't mind showing off a bit. With that nice new screen and snappy UI, gotta shot some of those Apple fanboys up
Now... the matter is waiting until my upgrade and (hopefully) getting the HOX through Amazon since it's so much cheaper!

I recently upgraded from the inspire to the HOX and I would tell you this, do it. Do it as fast as you can because it is totally better. I was rooted running a custom rom and HOX still smokes it on every level. Battery life is better, screen is amazing, beats audio is better. I then sold my rooted inspire on eBay for $255. Right now the HOX is $119 at amazon wireless. I came out ahead $140 bucks. Totally worth it. The only regret I have is not being able to get the phone in white. I originally ordered it in white but apple screwed me over there. Not sure how but amazon has the gray in stock.

Haha, I found it laughable that the 2 points that made the GS3 win were not related to the actual phone, but instead branding.
However, I can agree with the point. For general consumers, that is definitely a plus. Also, it was a competition on which should be THE Android flagship, and that makes the points even more prevalent.
Most Androids just don't have good presence or accessory support.
I can agree with the decision, but still think the One X is better as a general phone. Especially once ROMed up. When we get source, we'll be blazing!

Great video. I actually kind of agree with your conclusion...the S3 might be the better "flagship", but I'd prefer using the One X on a day to day basis.
When comparing these phones, for me it always comes down to this:
Software can be improved and optimized, hardware cannot. The multitasking issue is already largely mitigated in many custom ROMs, and that situation will only improve once we get kernel source. With the S3, you're always going to be stuck with a pentile AMOLED display and what is, in my opinion, a lower build quality.
Still, having to choose between these phones is definitely a #firstworldproblem, because they're both A+ devices. It is a great time to be a gadget nerd.

Superior display, battery life and design are worth more to me than any other cosmetic issues. HOX wins hands down in all three features I care about.

Good showmanship Arcadia and nicely executed comparison. IMO though, there really is no clear cut winner. You can walk away with either phone and feel satisfied that you own a great device.

I got to play with a DoCoMo (S4) SGS3 for a couple of days about two weeks ago while I was in Japan and compared it to my international One X. Other than the browser which Samsung always does an incredible job with, the SGS3 wasn't perceivably "faster." At least not after I loaded the same 93 apps I regularly use on my phone. Both phones are incredibly fast, noticeably faster than the previous generation of phones. I think when you get down to measuring performance of transitions in milliseconds it becomes irrelevant.
TW vs. Sense is personal preference. TW has been basically the same since the SGS1. Outside of introducing "ploink" and "tink" sounds TW3 and TW4 are 90% the same. Sense is an environment, TW is an OEM launcher and when you're actually trying to get stuff done Sense's comprehensiveness allows you to be more productive. When comparing in-built apps (social, e-mail, music) and integration Sense is a clear winner. If you don't like overlays TW wins because it's less intrusive. I'm surprised more people haven't noticed but TW hasn't been resized for the HD display and presents 20% less information. For example, in settings, you'll see eight options displayed in TW and 10 in Sense. That carries through in everything in TW and Samsung's stock apps. Coming from a i9100 I'm tired of looking at the same blocky, dark, and dreary interface. Sense seems brighter, more polished, contemporary, and is w/o question the better integrated UI.
Some stuff was left out of the review. HTC using partitions so the phone can be connected as mass storage vs. Samsung’s MTP is a big deal for people that transfer a lot of stuff back and forth between their phone and PC. You also don't have to screw around with drivers if you're using someone else's PC. That combined with slower NAND speeds as seen in AnTuTu leaves it half as fast at moving files as the One X. Samsung’s BT implementation is as funky as it’s ever been. The SGS3 had problems connecting and/or reconnecting pretty consistently where my One X never had an issue on the half dozen devices I tried both phones with. Also, A2DP on the SGS3 makes it sound like you’re listening to XM; there’s little separation, crappy range, and music is generally flat whereas A2DP on the One X is the best I've experienced.
As for the other stuff like a non-removable battery, weak multi-tasking and non-expandable storage, it is what it is. If those are hot buttons than the decision's pretty easy on which way to go and all the other stuff becomes secondary.
In case it helps anybody comparing the two phones, here's why I kept the One X instead of getting a SGS3 as I originally had planned.

P.S. - My comparison is to the international One X. I haven't even seen an AT&T version and don't know if some of the things I'm highlighting may be different between the two versions.

I just went to the Sprint store to look at the GSIII and was not impressed. I was seriously considering adding a line to my AT&T account so I can get it, but I have no interest in doing that anymore. First off, the color choices are ridiculous. I hate white phones (aside from the HOX which is just smexy) and the the blue really just isn't for me. Where's the black, Sammy??? I think the color, plastic, and overall shape of the phone really just belie the actual power of the thing, and I don't like that one bit. I am a big fan of industrial design, and as far as Galaxy phones are considered I think the Epic 4G Touch was the most attractive of them all. The screen on the GSIII, while having brilliant colors, was instantly recognizable as pentile and that to me is a major, major deal breaker. Compared side by side with the HOX, well... there's just no comparison. The HOX's screen smokes the GSIII's. The UI was incredibly smooth, I will give them that, perhaps even smoother than my HOX running CleanROM (which is ridiculously smooth), but after using Sense 4.0 for a while, I am once again not a fan of Touchwiz (I loved it on my E4GT). I think it too belies the power of the device because of how colorful and toyish it is. The whole thing just screams toyish and is really hard to take seriously as the powerhouse that it actually is. Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone, but I just can't see myself using it. I'm glad I got my HOX and am not jealous of the GSIII in the slightest.

The only thing that is even remotely making me THINK of switching is Developers FLOCK to the Galaxy S phones. They've all been rooted, bootloader lock isn't a problem, and they have source.
I love Android, but not for the stock experience. I like to play, and the SGS III has more to play with, or it least I feel like it will in short order.
Were it not for Scrossler's awesome ROM I'd be rocking a Gnex right now.
I hope to stick with the HOX for a while but if a deal comes up on Craig's list I'll have to seriously consider it.

Pretty fair assessment, thanks for the review. After using the One X for nearly 2 months I exchanged it for the SGS3. The screen is the only thing I am missing, and I miss it a lot!

YUP +1, Thats literally the only thing that will make me jump the fence over to the GSIII, the one x multitasking is literally atrocious, chrome reloads pages if i go to change the song on the music player. smh htc, terrible terrible...
btw, good review i liked it, felt as if you were totally spot on with all the problems of the hox (little lag, multitasking etc)

Hey everyone, first off I want to apologize for creating a topic like this. I have been reading up on both phones through website, reviews and topics here on XDA. I just cant seem to make up my mind.
The one X has no removable battery when the battery is 1800Mah which is pathetic considering I am running a 1900Mah in my outdated HTC Sensation. This is a big downside to me; the S3 has a 2100Mah battery which is removable which is a big plus. I was looking at both battery life threads for the international versions and both seem good though. Could you guys possibly comment on this?
The cpu and gpu's of both phones are also interesting. The Exynos seems better then the Tegra 3 and coming from a S3 powered Sensation I do not want another laggy phone.. Please comment on this, possibly a link to another topic if it was made before.
Memory is not a big issue for me, 32gb is plenty.
I heard that the screen on the One X is better and easier on battery life, is this true?
Last thing is development; I love flashing new Roms and have been spoiled with the Sensations awesome developers. Does the international One X have the great support the Sensation has?

y will be the battery life be same. have you seen the battery stats thread. battery life is worse. thats the only thing that is holding me back to buy the 1x. tegra 3 consumes more battery than exynos. my friend is using 1x. he said that he can hardly use his phone because of this bad battery life. i am waiting for the OTA. hope it improves the battery life. if so then i will instantly buy the HOX

I just got the S III. I compared it to the One S (different than the One X I know) and was disappointed in the HTC. Not having a memoir card slot was a deal breaker.

y will be the battery life be same. have you seen the battery stats thread. battery life is worse. thats the only thing that is holding me back to buy the 1x. tegra 3 consumes more battery than exynos. my friend is using 1x. he said that he can hardly use his phone because of this bad battery life. i am waiting for the OTA. hope it improves the battery life. if so then i will instantly buy the HOX

When using the phone the majority of power is used on the screen, so I can't see how any update can make the screen use less power unless it turns it down to such a low brightness it can hardly be seen, and you can do that yourself without waiting for new software. Waiting for an OTA that is suddenly going to make the battery last a lot longer is going to be a long wait. Yes it might get tweaked to give a few more minutes here or there, or contain fixed software bugs that was causing the phone to draw too much power in standby, but it can only do so much.
You can get attachable battery backs for the HTC One X now which will greatly extend the runtime, but it will make the phone physically larger.
If you can't live with the HTC One X battery runtime, stop contemplating it and get the S3. If there is something you don't like about the S3 which makes you favour the HTC One X, then sometimes you have to have accept one limitation over the over and just make a decision.

I have had the S3 for a week and love the phone. However I am switching back to my international one x. The biggest reason for me is connectivity and I miss the screen on the one x. The screen on the S3 is nice, but when you put it side by side with the one x the one x just pops. Samsung incorporated a lot of very nice software customization however the one x feels a bit more refined. Both are dynamite phones, I do find that the one x drops calls much less than my S3 which has become very frustrating to me.

Battery depends on how to use it. Since you're going to unlock the phone there are lot of stuff you can do to improve the battery life. I can easily get 3.5 to 4 hours of screen time and last more than a day. The standby time of One X is great.
The cpu and gpu's of both phones are also interesting. The Exynos seems better then the Tegra 3 and coming from a S3 powered Sensation I do not want another laggy phone.. Please comment on this, possibly a link to another topic if it was made before.

Now we have achieved GPU overclock so gaming performance will improve much more than before. I'm a minimalistic lover so lesser widgets and apps never had any lags. When comparing with the leaked firmware the UI is butter smooth and we have a lot of tweaks to make it even better.
Memory is not a big issue for me, 32gb is plenty.
I heard that the screen on the One X is better and easier on battery life, is this true?

It again depends on how you use it. We have tweaked the auto brightness values to even lesser to improve the battery so Yes it's better.

Good points made, I'd like to add that battery life of both phones is nearly the same, sIII has an edge by a margin. Danes goes for benchmarks.
I was chatting with this friend of mine who just got an SIII, he was whining about the battery life after having his brightness at lowest and sync off.
Developer support is great like ShyamSasi mentioned.

Go into a store with both the S3 and the one x and try them. I prefer the one x personally because it looks nicer, the screen is far better and in my opinion htc sense > touchwiz. But you might think differently so id recommend trying them out.

Got to play with a white GSIII alongside a white HOX yesterday (mine is grey).
Here are my two cents:
Looks
Visually, there's just no comparison between the two. On comparing the two devices side by side, HOX smokes SIII. Even all my friends who were with me thought the same. HOX looks infinitely better than GSIII.
Performance and Processors
Performance wise, the Exynos on the GSIII is a tad faster than the Tegra3 on the HOX, but honestly with such a high processing power, the differences in performance will be negligible, if at all visible.
One thing worth considering here is that with Tegra3, you get the advantage of a lot of great games that are optimized for it and offer a much better visual experience than on other processors.
Display
Now the display. Both are very high resolution, but the one on the SIII is a pentile one and is AMOLED. Now I know that the ppi on both are extremely high, but to the eyes of a discerning user, the difference in sharpness is visible. The display on the HOX looks sharper.
Some people prefer amoled, others prefer LCD. Personally, I find the colors to be a little too "punchy" on AMOLEDs. But you may have a different preference. Try playing with it before making a decision.
Now to the most important part and the reason most of us are here:
Custom ROMs
S-OFF hasn't yet been achieved by the HOX community, and that makes flashing custom ROMs a tad more tedious. Flashing custom ROMs on SAMMY devices is generally more hassle free.
Quality wise, the HOX community has some truly amazing devs and the ROM scene is very exciting.
User Experience
In the end, both of these are amazing devices. Play with both of them and decide which one you like better. TouchWiz vs. Sense is another very subjective topic and you'll have to judge on your own. But if you're planning on running AOSP, they don't really make a difference.
Camera
Haven't tested the camera on the GSIII, but I'm sure it's amazing. But so is the one on HOX. I think you could pick either one of them without really looking into this. If you're looking for serious photography however, I'd suggest you look for a good DSLR instead.

I think I am leaning towards the S3 though; the removable battery is making the difference for me. Also, coming from a laggy Sensation I want all the processing power I can get to avoid any lag in the future; I hate lag!

Both phones have a quad core processors. Idk why anyone even says theres possible lag on quad core phones. The Samsung has an amoled screen which means any white pictures or anything white that pops up drains battery amazingly faster. Sense 4 is rock solid and just flows good. Touchwiz is all over the place with cool features that you'll probably forget you have eventually. I feel like the gs3 to the gs2 is like the iphone4s to the 4. Its just a better looking gs2 with more **** on there., but unorganized. The galaxy s 4 will definitely be amazing because Samsung vowed to work on their software more than anything.
Battery wise, the gs3 seems like it takes up more resources than the one x because the u.s version has an extra gig of ram. My friends gs3 from att has **** battery life compared to my one x variant.
HTC is also obviously the underdog in phone sales so it would make sense that they would put more effort in building a high quality phone, which they clearly did. Samsung knows there on top so they overly marketed their phone everywhere and now its really popular, still top notch, but it was released before it was perfected.

I came from a i9100. I sold it before the i9300 came out so I could get more for it. I got a One X but planned on selling it once the SGS3 was released. I used a S4 SGS3 in Japan for two days and decided to keep the One X. There are 162 pages of debate on the SGS3 forum discussing both phones.

Keep in mind that the first 2/3's of that comparison thread was written before the SGS3 came out when people were comparing a utopian vision vs. the One X which had been out for a few months. Things have changed because the SGS3 has its share of issues. Most center on the display (defects, dimness), available RAM (the S-Crap reserves a large amount of memory), battery drain (wakelock issues), fragility (the edge-to-edge glass panel breaks easily), and QC (bezels cracked, hyperglaze defects, and the physical home button being recessed instead of raised).
At least to me, the One X's most outstanding feature is its display. I wasn't impressed with the SGS3's; especailly side-by-side. Displaymate is a professional display testing and evaluation company. They wrote up a review of the SGS3's display. It's not too flattering.

The One X was rushed to market by HTC, probably to get there ahead of Samsung and the SGS3. There were build issues, s/w and driver bugs, and some h/w problems. The launch didn't go exceptionally well. Some issues still exist but the chatter's died down considerably so you can assume things have improved as more phones have been built.
If you look at the way the One X is put together, the "phone" is a single unit and slides in to the single-piece polycarbonate body. Tolerances are pretty tight and probably difficult to achieve in mass assembly. The biggest issue is a Wi-Fi fault created when the connectors on the body aren't correctly aligned with the antennas on the shell during assembly. The connectors use dynamic tension so compressing the back of the phone can also affect Wi-Fi performance. Based on a rough tally, 200-400 owners on the forum are affected against a total of about 5K. The "fix" put in place by HTC are spacers to keep the back from being compressed. Where the connectors are isn't an area likely to be compressed (unless someone intentionally compresses it) and the fix is more of a safeguard. The design itself hasn't been changed and the majority of phones aren't affected. I'm sure HTC's adjusted the assembly process either through better training or new methods of getting the phone body in to the shell. HTC phones have their build month identified in their serial number. The "3" in XX23 means March and so on. I have a early-build HT23 and it's been pretty much flawless in every way so not all early-build phones had problems. A poll that was run with 1K people voting where the question was asked “is your One X perfect?”, 70% said yes. As in anything mass produced, later versions tend to have better tolerances through tuning of the build process over time.
There's been a leak of a pretty substantial update to the One X that's due out soon. It moves the phone to 4.0.4, improves battery life, performance and benchmarks, enhances the browser, and addresses a lot of little issues that bugged people. Read that thread and it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Keep in mind that if you intend to root your phone you'll be completely giving up your warranty on the One X where Samsung's still pretty liberal. More people need to take that in to consideration before they buy the One X.
Overall, I'm happy and there's no phone out there right now I'd rather have. Friends I've recommended the phone to are happy also. Good luck with your decision.

[Q] Nexus 5 vs ATT HTC One X

Sorry if this is repeated and I'm sure there are several threads like this in other phone forums but I didn't see one specifically relating to this phone. To be honest I'm completely fed up with my HTC One X, and have been for awhile regardless of my customizations and help from some great people on here (hope everyone keeps up their great work!). So when I noticed the Nexus 5 went on sale I jumped on it and got the 32gb version. I can't upgrade my phone through AT&T for another year so it sounded like a good idea to me at the time. I haven't gotten my phone yet, won't leave the warehouse till the 8th it says. I'm curious what others think of this decision and how much of an upgrade this will truly be? I'm feeling a little bit of buyers remorse even though I don't have the phone yet, and I'm really not sure why. I feel like maybe I should have waited the year to upgrade or maybe like I hyped myself up for something that seemed like a good deal to replace something that technically worked still but frustrated me. First world problems I know, again just curious to see how others see the situation.

Personally I think you made a good decision, the Nexus 5 looks like a great device. If I had the spare money at the moment I'd definitely buy one. To compare the two phones might be a bit unfair as the Nexus is hands down a better phone spec-wise. In saying that, the One XL is still a good phone, but it's dated now.

I too have ordered the N5. The HOXL was my first android phone and solidified my permanent departure from apple. I'm due for an upgrade from ATT at the end of this month. I plan to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5s and promptly sell it on ebay to recoup some of the N5 investment.

It seems most of the original xl devs jumped ship a while back. I guess next paycheck I might even look into it. Kinda sucks, even Rohan cleaned out his goo.im.

Haha, yep that's my luck too man. I usually keep a fat stack buried somewhere for occasions such as buying a new phone, that way I can actually keep up with these things. I guess it might be time to start digging since we only have 1-2 devs that aren't blind building.

Its an good upgrade for sure...But dunno why I still love my xl ... The build n the camera n grt support makes me utilize it till its hardware ends...

N5 is a flagship type device, that is a year and a half newer than the One X. LG would have to fail pretty hard for it not to be a significant upgrade.
The specs look great, and it looks to be a very solid phone. Although its aesthetic design is a bit plain to me, to the point of being mediocre or even ugly (purely subjective, or course). And some reviews have commented that the camera is a bit disappointing. But otherwise a very solid device for a great (almost unbeatable) price.

Aye pretty sure I'll be getting one. HTC have had their day by giving this phone eol too early.

Yep, I ordered a 32GB Nexus 5 on Sunday. Google says that it will ship in 2-3 weeks. Time to sell the One X.

I thought about it, had the Nexus 5 in the cart, but decided to just hold on to that ~$450 (32gb + tax) for now. The hox is good enough as a phone even with its flaws (multitasking, storage, RAM). I really needed a new tablet, so I bought a 32gb Nexus 7 which has been an awesome supplement to the hox for me.

Anyone thought about waiting till the m8 comes out to see how it stacks up against the nexus 5? I mean honestly comparing the nexus 5 to the HTC one xl is comparing apples with oranges, the one xl is so old. Even comparing the nexus 5 with the one seems a little unfair as the nexus 5 is like the start of the 2014 line of flagship phones.

So I got my phone way earlier than expected, and I have to say it's like night and day. I'm incredibly happy with the phone. No regrets at all! I should think it will last quite awhile as well, that's for sure.

Got my N5 on Tuesday. It's incredibly fast and despite the One XL's still-awesome screen, text is noticeably crisper on the N5. It also feels much more premium than pictures would let on.
The one thing I noticed is that despite the smaller screen, the One XL actually has more usable space due to the N5 having soft buttons eating up space. Certainly it's nothing that will make me return the N5, just something I thought I'd point out for those considering the switch. Otherwise the N5 is a beast and Kit Kat is pretty cool.

how is the camera of nexus 5 compared to HOXL?. if possible post some comparison pictures bro.

I have had an HTC One XL for about a year, then an HTC One for a few months, which I sold and replaced with a Nexus 5. So I have the One XL and the N5 at the moment. There's two things I value most in a smartphone: the screen and the camera.
In my opinion the N5 screen is not as good as the HTC screen: colors seem a little duller and the diagonal viewing angles are downright poor in comparison. Still, it's not a bad screen.
About the camera, well, the N5 takes more detailed shots, that's for sure. I've done a bunch of direct comparisons and the N5 comes out on top when it comes to fine detail. However, and this is a big issue for me, the N5 camera is severely limited by the Android stock camera. You can forget about adjusting parameters, burst mode, disabling autofocus and other useful features the HTC camera provides. With the HTC camera, even though it is not as good as the N5 camera on a technical level, I feel more confident I'll get a good picture, although it depends on what you will be shooting. I take alot of pictures of my dog when we go for long walks, and the N5 camera is slow to capture movement so pictures tend to come out blurry. The HTC camera is not that fast either, but faster still and more suited for this scenario. Oh, and you can forget about taking good pictures during video recording on the N5, all you get is a small 1080p screenshot.
Speed wise, yes, the N5 is a joy to use. It really makes for a fun Android user experience, and loading times are definitely shorter on the N5 (loading web pages for instance).
I like the way the N5 feels in the hand too, much more so than the HTC One XL, despite being a larger phone.
Now here's the thing though, I'm regretting getting rid of my HTC One. To me it has the best of both of these other phones: a beautiful 1080p screen, good specs, and a very solid camera. Yes, I know the low resolution does not have many fans and admittedly when it comes to detail it suffers because of that, but its camera is a joy to use. Snapping pictures is blazingly fast and I hardly ever get blurry motion in my shots, which is perfect for my needs. So in the end, I will return my N5 and probably get a used HTC One to replace it. Or maybe I will wait a few weeks and see if Google does anything about the camera situation on the N5. For now though, my HTC One XL will keep me happy.

The One X feels really nice in my hands and I can't seem to hold the Nexus 5 in a way that doesn't have a corner poking my palm. I have large hands too and can't really imagine using the N5 with one hand if they were smaller.
Keeping my Nexus 5 but I will miss the design of the One X.

I agree the screen isn't as nice, though the 1080p does make text crisper to my eye. And yeah, the camera is frustrating to use compared to the One XL's.

I also find the One XL nicer in the hand and it's easier for me to pick up off a flat surface, both due to its beautiful curves.
I've been testing the N5 on T-Mobile for the last week and am going to port my number over today from AT&T. I'll miss my One XL but can't justify paying AT&T $110/month vs. $70/month for T-Mobile anymore. T-Mobile's LTE coverage is good enough in L.A. for me to jump ship.
