Battery powered USB Y cable - Nexus 4 Accessories

As we know, Nexus 4 can't provide needed power for OTG devices so you need to use external powered USB Y cable with OTG cable, how it works you can read here.
So Im wondering, if USB Y cable have three ports(MicroUSB, USB for power and USB) can we port for power attach on external battery? I have one external battery which gives 5V and 1A, usb on computer gives 5V and 500mA so I think it will be possible with external battery !!
I don't have N4 but planning to buy it so can someone try this with external battery and confirm that it works please?

Anyone?

I believe so.all you're doing is replacing a conventional charger.

Using a usb extension to charge?

So would this be ok or would it damage my phone? Basically I have a usb extension with is basically a usb plug on one side and a port on the other to plug in another usb cable. I'm plugging that into the charger and then plugging in the microusb wire into that to charge. It charges fine but I'm just wondering if it's not good for the phone.
Its just extantion code where you plug in your sammy charger rite? Than you are ok no problem at all. I use this setup everyday.

I mean something like this

Basically the bottom goes into the samsung charger and the actual microusb charger goes to the top. Its basically an extension cord for the microusb cable.
I have a 10ft USB cable plugged into my stock charger with no problem.
Not really answering my question lol. I wanna know if its safe for a usb cable to be plugged into another usb cable.
Yes it is!!!!!!

[Q]Charging using USB

When I connect my P6200 using usb, it doesn't charge, instead, there is an 'x' symbol at the battery. Is this normal? Because using my Galaxy Ace, it charges when usb is connected. I'm asking this because I'm trying usb tether for the first time, but in this case if it doesn't charge, it means that I can only usb tether until my battery has depleted and I would have to recharge again to be able to tether.
Yup. Usb is not able to charge tab and ipad. Need to plug to wall for charging

Actually it does charge. More of a trickle charge tho. If the screen is off, then it will trickle charge a bit faster.
If the tab is connected via USB, will it at least be able to sustain itself via the USB power?
So if your battery is on 50%, and you keep the tablet on and are using it. Will it at least stay on 50% and not decrease slowly?
Samsung puts a resistor in their chargers so the tablet can distinguish between a Samsung brand charger and all other chargers.
The tablet will not charge (or use power from) any USB port except the wall adapter. (lame Samsung... really lame...)
You can buy adapters (or make them)
There's more info for creating an adapter yourself in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
Just like the GT-P1000, P6200 is charging over the usb port of any pc, only when it is turned off. But anyway the charging process is much longer. Very useful when you don't heave the travel adapter with you.
i use this usb cable it work
It pulls a Max of 500mA from the USB or unknown charger. This will charge a tab plus with the screen off that isn't doing much. It will pull 1500mA from the Samsung wall charger.

My Plus charges normally from PC via USB. Icon shows 'x', but still in charging process anyway. It takes longer time but for those who tether should be ok and Plus should stay at least on the same level of %. I have unoriginal cable bought together with car charger.
I purchased a micro USB charger adapter from ebay. It just plugs into the 30 pin port and I am able to use my cell phone charger with no problem at all. The cell charger puts out 1000ma and the tab plus recognizes it. Do a search for P6200 Micro USB Charger Adapter on ebay.
If you are determined to use a computer to charge the tab plus, you will need the adapter above and a dual USB A to micro USB B Y cable. It will plug into two USB ports on the computer and give you the 1000ma to charge the tab plus. This is the best solution without having power cables all over your desk.
re
HEllo, where can I buy this cable?
thanks

First I thought there might be some problems but this post helped me figure the cause

Charger HTC Question

Hi all.
Could the charger of desire work normally(when check in about phone it must be show AC not USB) for the HTC desire HD and Inspire 4g.
Thanks
If it shows AC that means you are charging through a power outlet and when it's charging by USB you are charging it through a USB cable connected to a computer
Charging through AC is faster then USB

Why does USB from PC charges slower than the one from the socket?

PC has only 500mA current output, your wall charger has 1A output
greater current faster charging-but this does not mean that battery has not its max. charging current!
higher charging current can easily damage your battery and cell phone.
I charge my phone with Xperia charger, with Kindle charger, with Nokia charger and many more. So far I have no problem with my battery. As long as on the end of the cable you have “micro-b usb” and stable (troublefree) electric transformator to supply that cable you can charge your battery. The time to charge may be different but the result is the same.

+1 you only have to use a micro usb!
The charger should work with any phone other than iPhones

Correct!
As long as it is a usb micro charger, it all works....
only the time required to fully charged varies...
I am using a Nokia USB cable as a Charge. Works fine too.

I'm using Nokia cable, Sony cable ... All work fine !
As long as the two data cables are connected to eachother, the DHD will recognise it as a wall charger, and it will use 1 ampère. Instead of the 0.5 amps when connected to a PC (when the data cables aren't connected to eachother).
You can buy "charging only" cables. They always charge at maximum rate and do not transmit any data. Usually come with external battery packs etc.
Just to clarify some. (Talking about USB2.0 as 3.0 has a little higher power)
The USB on computers are powered by the motherboard (if not using extra PCI USB card).
Usually the motherboard gives about 500mAh to each USB host. If that host has 4 USB connectors all those connectors share the 500mAh.
And just be careful to not go above 500mAh as some (older) motherboards or even add in card's cannot handle the extra power and will fail to work(permanently).
So a charge-only cable will not make a difference in this situation, same goes for using multiple USB ports as that also brings extra problems with it, as power/voltage doesn't flow in just 1 direction (when using 2 poles). You could blow out USB voltage regulators when connecting different USB power leads together.
As for the phone side you can also use a 5000mAh power source, as the phone will 'take' what it needs. For DHD the max charging power is about 800mAh~900mAh if I'm not mistaken.
As long as its 5V and somewhat stable.
So if you want to charge the DHD (or any other USB chargeable phone, mostly all of them) as fast as possible use the original wall charger.
If you have to do it on the PC/Notebook unplug as much USB devices as possible, so most of the power can go to the phone.
Also make sure the screen of the phone is turned off as that's the biggest battery drain of the DHD. Thus also making charging slower (when on).
I'm using htc charger to charge my e-cigarette . It's works good.
If you plug it into USB socket, and enable "Fast charge" option, does it do anything? Does it block the data transfer and acts like a wall socket (1A) ?

Question about USB charging

I cannot find or haven't seen any info about charging with USB cord with the otg cable. What I am wanting to know is can I plug in the otg cable then a 4 port USB hub and hook a USB cable up to the hub and plug into the wall and charge my nexus 7. Want to be able to charge while I have my external drive plugged in. Hope this makes sense please help.

But Can Cause Over Voltage.
Beware!!!

MicroUSB Y Cable

Hey guys
I have a microusb y cable connected to the tablet. A USB to ethernet dongle is attached to one end and a microusb cable USB connected on another
The microusb cable is connected to an AC charger but the tabet doesn't like it and is going down to standard usb charging speeds/power
Would there be anyway to make it charge AC because when I play games on it the power draw is faster than usb charging speeds
Thanks

Probably not. You could try using the old USB charge cable hack (cut open the cable insulation and short the data lines) ... but I doubt it'll work because the tablet will still sense data from the dongle and limit input to .5A. Another possibility is to try and create a kernel with USB3 Fast Charge enabled (I don't think anybody else has one out with this feature yet).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hopefully somebody else has a better idea.
Yup, search ebay for this:
"3 Port USB 2.0 OTG Hub OTG Charging Cable For Android Tablet Computer Cheap"
You get a 3 port hub with power pass through and a 3 position switch for compatibility with most OTG devices. It's like 9 bucks. Super cool gadget!
have you tested it?
Can you use all three ports at the same time? ( i.e can it work like a mini usb hub)
there is a port selector switch on the unit that is a tad confusing ( and the ebay description didn't help much)
Nope but it works with samsung, onda and others tablets by use of that 3 way switch. I would get this at 9 bucks and try. Gimme a week and I may have one.

The usb3 spec allows for current throughout >500ma. Usb2 was limited in that manner. The usb3 fast charge was an addition to the kernel which allows for the acceptance of a faster charge rate over USB. Without it, the devices would self limit the current to ~500ma.
I don't have a reference for it, but Google and xda are probably your friends.
