Does the wifi hotspot with password fix (under post #2, mods) work with you guys? Or do you not have this problem with your JB roms?

Gapps is not a ROM. If you meant "can you install a ROM without gapps", then yes, but you won't have certain features (e.g. Play Store).

Gapps stands for Google apps. These are apps that they can't legally distribute with the rom so you must add them separately but you need to use gapps compatible with your OS

You can if you're going to use a different ROM. Gapps are not standalone (you need a ROM).
The ROM is like a heart for the Android system, without that you can't get anyware

On any ROM thread, you'll see download link for both ROM and GAPPS, download 'em both, flash ROM first, then after successfully flashing, flash gapps, just like you flash ROM.

[Q] How to install Jelly Bean 4.2.2 (without custom ROM)?

Hi all,
I did not find any relevant post regarding this, I would like to install the regular JB 4.2.2 (like the one on Google Nexus) on the galaxy tab 2 (10.1').
Is there a way to do so? (I installed the one from samfirmware but its samsung made, I want the original one..)
Thanks in advance,
Asaf
So in other words you want a nexus 7-like Rom for your Tab 2.0 but doesn't want to install a custom Rom hmm impossible (kinda)... I mean you could completely change your devices ui and framework to Look Like the N7 ( if you want i can post a thread to your Tab's App forum) <--------[HARD WAY] or you'll have to install an AOSP Rom (not CM based like PAC or RR) for your device. They give you a clean JB Rom that doesn't come with CM/Pa/AOKP tools that you probably don't want.

You could re-theme it. Download a custom rom, get all the framework, icons and copy it onto samsung's stock rom.
Remove all of samsung's bloatware and replace it with aosp ones

Why hijack this thread asking about a device that is not even the same and a totally different topic? Take your question to the appropriate forum.

By the time you install the rom through recover it will either install root afterwards or you will need root to install it.

Ok Thanks! if thats what I gotta to so then no other way.. what ROM should I use?
I downloaded recovery through CWM site, but I think it needs to be flushed using the manager (which requires root), so another question is how to root this device? (or can i combine ROM+recovery+root in Odin somehow?)

[ROM][MIUI][7.0] [mido] miui.su

I was running into many problems running a custom miui rom, so I started finding more custom stable firmwares.
I have been running miui.su rom and it has been a pleasure. No Google services force closes and its very stable. I am sharing the link for you guys to try as well. It's based on China beta rom with all the bloat removed. Inbuilt OTA updater works.
*I take no credit for the creation of this rom, just sharing it so you guys can try and profit.
https://miui.su/firmware_manager/model_view/374/
Please give this post a thumbs up if you like the rom.
Lastly another more customized ROM. People were asking for it so I am adding link here. Its miuiPro. Completely different project.

- doesn't allow third party themes, couldn't apply multirom icons
Haven't tested battery life as such
Screenshots. Swipe up search works
Will report on battery life after a few days use. By the way fingerprint unlock is instant. No delay what so ever.
What are the features?. Built in ota works for stable rom also?
Btw, what does su stands for? Thanks!
No spanish language, very bad

It is a beta rom but its pretty stable for daily use. The updater app works and you can get weekly rom update from there directly on to your phone.

Please share an about screen. If it is a snapdragon variant of note 4 then it will work. If it has the mtk deca core cpu this would not work. Dont worry about baseband.

/e/ -- New ROM for the Mi A1

Just a heads up for those who might be interested.
I have been following the development of the /e/ project for a little while now -- and put in a request that they port the ROM to the Mi A1. Maybe some of you did too.
Anyways, the Mi A1 is now a supported device:
https://community.e.foundation/t/up...supported-devices-enabled-by-oreo-branch/1147
It's the busy season at work for me right now, so I won't be wiping my device and installing for a few weeks, but I'd be interested to read any impressions if other people install it in the meantime.
Disclaimer: I have no connection with this project.

It's essentially an aosp rom with an iphone-like launcher and a few nice teaks and apps. no Google services or google apps. the goal is to avoid google services (and similar information gathering services) to increase security and privacy.
a nice intention. but to be honest I don't think flashing a custom Rom will increase your security! (just saying)
btw I tried it. booted up but started giving force closes for system ui. I needed the phone for the day so restored my backup rom. will try again tomorrow. perhaps formatting data (instead of wiping) would do the trick.
