4.2.3? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Will the AOSP roms have 4.2.3 as the next move?

Do you really have to ask this? Aosp is always up to date. If our galaxy will get it, is completely up to the devs who will most likely give it to us as cm10.2

It's 4.3 if you've been following the news

Just switched from ios to droid

Hey everybody I just switched to DROID from using ios the past 4 years and I'm really happy with my choice. The iPhone 5 was the last straw for me so instead I picked up a feature packed galaxy siii. I want to thank you guys for the tutorials you guys have posted as it really helped in understanding how to flash the custom roms. I have my siii set just how I want. I just have one question if someone doesn't mind answering. When the official jellybean update comes out will I need to revert back to stock rom to update or can I update ota on a custom rom? Please excuse me if I didn't post this in the right section. This is my first post. Thanks for all your hard work.
I believe you would have to revert to stock and then do the ota.

Just wait for one of the Devs to do their magic on Jelly bean when it comes out. I'm sure it wont take them to long to do.
Congrats! Btw, if you're already running a custom rom, then you should probably just wait until the developer updates it, or install a new JellyBean rom when you're ready.

Take it easy on me lol
It kinda depends on how long you are willing to wait for the update. You definitely won't be able to accept the OTA update if you are running a custom rom, but devs will have a flashable version on XDA available almost immediately after the official is released. A couple of days later custom roms will start appearing.
Another reason to wait is there is always the possibility that the update will in some way disable root. This has happened before with several VRZ phones. So I would wait(a couple of hrs) till XDA gets their hands on the update before making any moves.

wait for a dev to release the official TouchWiz JB, then wipe data from cwm recovery and flash away. Fyi there currently is a TouchWiz JB leak by Incubus in the dev section, but its has bugs...If your looking for stability; Touchwiz ICS>AOSP(paranoidandroid,aokp,cm10)>Touchwiz JB Leak
And to help you, Synergy is a very stable ICS touchwiz ROM. Paranoid is a very great ROM but it might be a bit confusing for you since you're new with the tablet mod n tweaking APKs and such. CM10 is good but I like AOKP better for the customization

Nitro dont release builds based on a leaks...so until we get a official Touchwiz JB rom from VZW I doubt he will release anything!
Welcome to the Android community!
There are lots of good ROM choices and Jelly bean is available as a teaser if you'd like to check it out
My favorite ICS ROM is Synergy
My favorite JB ROM is Jellywiz
Enjoy and happy flashing !!!
You can make a nandroid backup of your current setup which saves everything, all your data/games. and try one of the current JB roms. I am currently on ICS cleanrom, and been thinking about waiting for a 100% working one to come around. The nandroid backup is so you can easily go back to your old setup if you don't like the newer rom.

He's working on an aosp JB build, has a working alpha right now, but until he gets his device this week, he can't work out the bugs quickly. You will see eclipse...I'm guessing pretty quickly after he gets his phone
He will have a TW Rom out...but I'm sure he will wait for the official JB build for that.

I second that!! Cleanrom is a GREAT first rom and it gives you a chance to mess with overclocking a lil too... Just go in SMALL steps... Although mine is a champ at 1.99ghz & stable as hell! You will finally feel the freedom that you get with Android! OPEN SOURCE baby!! No more damn itunes and buying stuff that isn't really yours..? Have a GREAT time surfing the threads but just take some time to read the rules as well cause they are quick to break you off some! (mods) LOL

[Q] no official ROM, but 4.2 source code heaps to AOSP, any impact on CM ROM build?

as question, I don't know much about how CM or other customized ROM is built. Appreciate if anyone can answer my question.

According to CM G+, 4.2 will be called 10.1 not 11 since it was still JB. And there is a lot of device which didn't get official JB yet but running on CM10.

SGS3 Vanilla JB Rom?

Hello, so far I stuck with stock roms... first ICS now leaked JB... I really would like a plain vanilla jb rom still retaining the great features of the SGS3... can anybody point me in the right direction?

No such thing, as vanilla android is unaltered, i.e. the nexus devices.
I would say that cyanogen mod is probably as close as you'll get. Aokp is close too but has much more customization options.

There isn't one. Use cm10 and don't use the customization. Also you will not have the s3 features like motion controls, camera, etc.
You're best bet is to try a couple out and find what works for you.

I'm gonna work on building vanilla JB rom as soon as the semester ends......don't have enough time till then :\ Should be convenient timing as a lot of the leg-work is already complete
I've already started working on one, but its not looking very promising so far. Its really really difficult getting the build to cooperate, and then once I finally do get it to cooperate thenaybe it won't take too long to get some of the initial kinks ironed out so people can start testing. But at least if I cannot get the bugs worked out enough to post it for people to use there is someone else who will begin working on it shortly. So hopefully we will have a pure AOSP ROM soon, one way or another.

Omega ROM
Give Omega ROM a try, there is an optional to remove all SGS3 default bloatware that comes with it when you flash the ROM.
I am using it because this ROM is having all other SGS3 features like the motion control, stock camera, etc.:good:

[Q] best AOSP ROM for this phone?

I've been running CarbonROM (03/16 nightly) and as much as I love it, I always seem to see issues with it with the screen freezing to the point where I have to pull the battery to fix it.
Can anyone recommend an AOSP ROM that is extremely reliable?

try CarbonROM 3/15 nightly build with KT kernel. No problem none freeze. I gave up 3/16 or newer nightly build gave me lot problem.

That is a small issue, but it's not that bad by any means. I just don't like Touchwiz being all bloated. Lol

KT's kernel always caused random reboots for sure. Any build wouldn't be any different. Anyways, I'm enjoying the 16th right now. But if it keeps freezing, then I'll try the 15th.

I cant stand bloat either but with kids I have to be able to hear the voices and or singing. Aosp video is near silent except for when I talk lol.

Which MR build would you recommend?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
The most stable ROMs I have found are clean rom for TW. Scott UK so always one of the first to update to new builds. As far as AOSP, I really like Liquid Smooth. Really quick, light weight and one of the few 4.2.2 ROMs with the ability to save pics directly to the SD card, which for me is a deal breaker if not included.

I know about CleanROM (and have it backed up). I don't like liquid because of the use of nova launcher. Call me picky, but I prefer having an independent launcher over NOVA, which I can just download anyday.

If you are looking for stable and reliable avoid nightlies. I have found slim rom, rootbox, carbon and liquid to all be extremely stable if you stick to their "stable" releases. The nightlies will give you cutting edge features but those features will introduce bugs and quirks as well.
For me, every time I get off Slim I end up back on it within a week. Love it.

I've tried Slim and I just don't really like it as much as Carbon or Liquid. Right now, Liquid is the best ROM I've ever used followed by AOKP. Carbon's stables still have rebooting issues (haven't rebooted once on Liquid yet and I've ran it for 2 days now).

New Rom Idea! (SignatureROM)

Okay, I have been thinking. I am not a developer. (Sorry for posting here!) I just would love to help and/or have someone help me.
OKAY, here is the idea.
Have it run SMOOTHELY on GS3 on ALL US Carriers.
Run 4.2.2 OR 4.3. (5.0 when it comes out)
BORROW ideas and features from CM10, Liquidsmooth, ParanoidAndroid and AOKP.
Instead of NOVA Launcher being implemented, Have APEX used instead.
Have it using IMO's Lean Kernal
Implement, SOMEHOW, Multi-Window support.
LASTLY, have an OFFICIAL Galaxy Note II ROM and S4 ROM built.
What do you think?!

I think the ROM devs have a pretty good idea of what THEY want to do with THEIR time.

Here's a better idea! Why don't you take the time to learn how to develop yourself instead of being lazy and asking asking others to do the work for you? What you posted is nothing more than your vision of what you would like to see in a ROM. So go build it!
I fail to see how every post after mine is related to development. Yes, including this one.
