I've been looking for an official thread about the CM 10.1 for our phone!
I installed it last night. Looks like a good start, but not quite ready for daily use. A couple quick things I noticed not working: SD card isn't mounting correctly, selecting reboot from the power menu doesn't reboot, just shuts it down.
Speaking of the SD card issue, the way this phone handles them is kind of bothersome. Apps that by default save to a folder on your sd card for backups/restores can't find anything I backed up from my old phone. And I have no idea where CWM is saving my backups!

If you sift through cm's gerrit, you will see that mr. Kondik has sorted this out. Should be coming to the nightly builds near you soon.

That's good to know. I haven't had time to look through there.

Other than the SD Card not working here's what I noticed so far:
NFC does not work.
I only get 7000 at most on Quadrant while I got 12500+ on stock (It's only a single, old benchmark, but still a pretty big drop - haven't tried other benchmarks yet).
Camera takes a much longer time to take pictures than stock.
LTE is disabled by default (why? also, I seem to get 4G less often/weaker than on stock, but it's probably my imagination)
Other than that it works fine. WiFi and GPS work perfectly and the phone doesn't bug/slow down at all. There's pretty much no app to test the IR sensor that I know of (other than stock Samsung), so I can't comment on that.
Anyways nice, fast port. Hope those quirks can be ironed out and we get some action with custom roms/kernels for performance and IR/Hover functionality on aosp
Also, what exactly are the differences between the t-mobile and the canadian version? Seeing how fast the canadian version got out I guess there's not much of a difference, just wondering.

I'm definitely looking forward to the gracious devs that decides to develop Cyanogenmod for the S4! I've been running CM10.1 on my S2 and literally cannot live without it, the status/notification bar, trebuchet launcher... loved it all.

I do not have screenshots, but I can tell you that it's the cpu that gets a lot lower score than before (previously got over 7000 of the total score by itself, now gets under 3000). I tried putting the minimal frequency at 1.89Ghz, which did help slightly (7200 score vs the previous 6800-6900s), but nothing close to stock.
I tried AnTuTu once and got 22800, which is fairly close the the 23500 people seem to get on stock.
I need to go to sleep, I'll try a few more benchmarks tomorrow.

I guess benchmark scores mean nothing compared to the overall system butter-smoothness. Is it the case that things seem to be more responsive compared to the stock ROM?

Will it support extfat format for sd cards?

Sadly not yet... The I9500 and I9505 are yet to get it. however if you browse the git you can see unofficial nightlies will be released very soon. probably the I9505 due to its snapdragon processor.

New nightly is up (canadian, t-mobile).
External SD card works, camera takes pictures faster.
NFC still doesn't work, quadrant is still around 7k.

A JB ROM that runs as fast as ICS?

Like the title says I am looking for a JB ROM that runs as fast and smooth as most ICS ROMs do...I love the features of JB but every ROM I have tried seems to run so sluggish and it annoys me to not be able to use my phone...I switch back to ICS and like that it is fast but end up missing the JB features especially the ones in CM10 any suggestions or suggestions on how to get JB to not run so sluggish and constantly freezing or taking so long to load things?

JB ist faster than ICS because of Project Butter.
One of the fastest JB ROM is Rasbeanjelly.

Yeah, ur nexus S is a little older than our S 4G so that could cause some of ur lag.
Does it lag even if a clean install with no added apps? By clean I mean formating everything & cleaning up ur SD card. I only ask since many have written that lots of old files on SD cards from GB & ICS apps that are restored do not mix.
So get bored with some time & do a clean install and add each app from the market instead of TB or other restored areas. See if it matters.
If not then its just that the Nexus S is just about reached it limit with ICS for smoothness for U.
Good luck

Disable Google now and extra crap you don't need.
Try to troubleshoot your problem a bit with software such as betterbatterystats. That will at least give you a hint.

Yeah, its just ur phone processor is slow for JB. The only solution is to run bare minimum apps so it won't clog the memory. But then what's the point of having a fancy phone.
I has a nexus S4G and I have minimal apps with slim bean. It runs great but I have to keep the ROM & phone in shape or else it will lag & crash. That and I didn't even install Google now or other JB features. So perhaps try that set up.
But its either stick with GB, ICS or minimal JB
or
get a new phone, so its a cycle that will never end. Heck I ran my poor little HTC Hero to the brink with all the new ROMs back then. Now its just a tired old media player with some games for my daughter & her friends.
good luck bro

Yea I will be getting a nexus 4 if I can ever catch the thing in stock. But until then I am still stuck with this poor old thing which has been good to me. I was just trying to see if it was something I could do to run JB and it still be usable. I have been running it most of the day and while slower than ICS it is has not been horrible...that being said tomorrow I will probably go back to ICS.

[Q] screen lag

Hi there,
I noticed on my GT2 a screen lag between touching the display and start moving my finger.
For an example: i touch the display with my finger in an app like "multitouch visualizer 2" and i see how it recognizes my finger. But when i start moving my finger, i have to move my finger for a small distance until it shows me how my finger is moving. It's not much but it still bothers me. I don't recognize anything like that on my nexus 4 or other devices.
It happens also in every app, that's why i think it's either hardware or firmware related. Does anyone has a solution for me?
I'm running codeworkx' CM10.1 with the aokp kernel.
Thanks in advance.

It dident really solve the problem. The lag still exists. I got used to the small lag but the experience with the AOKP-Kernel is pretty good to me.
I think we have to keep in mind that our tablet isn't a premium product like the Nexus 10 or any other highend (expensive) tablets.

Anyone using ICS still?

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.
Bling is cool, as long as it doesn't introduce glitches and hitches.

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...

Thanks for the info. I don't see anything on that list that is a must have though. Hopefully, GB will be supported by app devs until next spring when my contract is up. Carry on.
yeah..nothing must have..just interesting to test.
jb may be a step up in the most updated device designed to run it with support from chip set manufacturer. (ex: gn2, sgs3, sgs4)
for the most part, i prefer a tablet or pc...my phone is mostly a phone/digital assistant...but i suspect i'm a minority here

LiquidSmooth 2.7

Haven't seen anyone post anything about LiquidSmooth, but wanted to let everyone know it's available via Goo. Been running it for almost 24 hours and it seems very snappy and stable, no issues to speak of. Its an AOSP ROM for anyone who doesn't know, so you'll need gapps. I'm not affiliated with them in any way and all credit goes to the LiquidSmooth developers. Just a fan of the ROM!
If this post isn't allowed, just lock it. Or use as discussion about LiquidSmooth since there isn't one for s4...

Your in the right area, everyone is cool, I hope. Does bluetooth work consistently? and I had drop calls right in the middle of a call, random, but there. The rom rocks actually, but those are major bugs to me.
I was just about to post about this. Downloading the ATT build as we speak. Not sure why they haven't made a thread yet but have our carrier build made. Any way, it's nice to add to the ROM selection around here. I was checking out other carrier's ROMs, saw liquid and jflteatt on their goo.... *Profit*

LiquidSmooth is VERY similar to SlimBean feature wise, except for they run a normal DPI out of the box.

Don't really use Bluetooth, don't even have anything to test around with either. I'm hoping that when the 'Google Edition' is released that all the feature drivers gets ironed out for AOSP. Camera, BT, GPS, have always been janky with TouchWiz phones on AOSP.

Smooth, fast and stable. No issues that I've found yet. Though, it does seem to take a while for my phone to charge. Battery life is excellent though. Love Halo being added to it as well. Also Halo settings kinda stick... but nothing major.
Great ROM.

LTE worked great in StLouis a few days ago. Check your APN settings.

Is the GPS in 2.7 not working? I haven't found any dev notes and unfortunately search isn't working right now. I just flashed 2.7 last night and noticed today that I still don't have GPS signal even after driving around in my jeep with the top off.

Don't really use Bluetooth, don't even have anything to test around with either. I'm hoping that when the 'Google Edition' is released that all the feature drivers gets ironed out for AOSP. Camera, BT, GPS, have always been janky with TouchWiz phones on AOSP.

Thanks for the post. I love LiquidSmooth too. Weird that it's 'hidden'. I'm really waiting out the "Google Edition" ROM. Also find it odd that there not much talk about it considering the phones get released tomorrow. Anyone have any info?

not alot of talk because i don't think it will sell well for the price point. but the rom dump from it will help us.

Think there will be any custom roms for this phone anytime soon...

Didn't even consider looking on xda to see if there were any custom roms for this phone everything i've ever had there's been a load already..
Does anyone know if there are any plans for a custom rom ?
Wish i had the brain power and time to look into sorting one out myself
I'm a flashaholic with withdrawl symptoms... lol
Don't expect anything before the release of Marshmallow.

I personally wait for a MIUI port.

The biggest thing for me is a tidy kernel to get this phone to last a days use..
And also just to have the ability to remove half the embedded sony stuff i'll never use..
The Phone definitely doesn'r run as mooth as it should be considering the available power from a snapdragon 810 and 3gb of RAM. Nothing too bad, but coming from a Nexus 4 the animations throughout the OS seem less smooth.
