SGP tempered glass .4mm protector - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

So every time I purchase a new phone I go through the same process.
I spend a significant amount of money on a screen protector for it then to scratch and realise it's more effective to keep buying cheap protectors.
Well..... This time is no different, £30 on this screen protector. I have placed the phone in my pocket a few times where there is no grit or anything that should scratch the screen and it's got light scratches......
Never again :')

Sorry to hear is it possible to post a pic?

File a claim with them. They will replace it. Their customer service SUCKS at their best, but keep at them. You paid good money for what was suppose to be a good product. If people keep letting companies get away with this crap, companies will keep on doing it to you...
SPIGEN is at the top of the "Doing it to you" list ( and not in the socially accepted good way ).

You can try keeping a tiny piece of anything on the screen(like a piece of tissue paper) to help the camera focus on the screen!
And try a halogen background lighting or you can first try using the flash to see if it brings out the scratches in the pic!:fingers-crossed:

I also got a scratch on the glass tR which I never know where it came from. Noticed that just 2 or 3 weeks after installing it on my phone. Very disappointed. I ordered MIME for the lifetime warranty then.

I have the nano glass screen protector on my phone about 4 days I think and I already got very light scratches. I will try to take some pictures today for show you guys and spigen as well.

What is the point in having a screen rotector on an anti-scratch glass? I used them in the past but since i ended with them i never got a single tiny scratch on any of my phones!

Just because it's scratch resistant it doesn't make them scratch proof. I've seen a few gorilla glass products get scratches on them. You've just been lucky. The only reason I use screen protectors (along with a case) is for a higher resale value.

I have the Glass.tr and it now has a very faint crack going from the center of my phone to the sides.. I haave never dropped it. I think it happened in my pocket.. I think maybe me sitting down or something caused my phone to flex a little bit creating the crack.. which is bull.. it is suppose to be 9h or 8h.. flexing the phone a little should cause a crack.. I mean the gorilla glass didn't crack.. anyway I sent in a request for a new one.. lets see if they will do it.. my experience with spigen is they won't reply for like a week

You have it backwards, the harder the glass, the less stress it can take while flexing. Making it thinner also reduces its capacity to remain rigid, making it much easier to flex. The hardness rating is there to prevent scratches. if you want a flexible protector, go with a quality plastic.

[Q] Sprint Screen Protectors

Anyone else using the sprint screen protectors for their epic? I just bought a pack and I'm really disappointed with them. They are just big enough to cover the screen it self. So there is no margin for error when putting them on. Also I think they are supposed to be anti-glare so make the beautiful screen of my epic hazy and almost pixelated. Any suggestions for decent clear screen protectors?
Does the epic really need a screen protector? I thought the screen was made from some super durable stuff?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
i know i made the sprint people put one on
i can take the hazyness until i get my skinomi
i recommend skinomi
Its still plastic and there are a lot of things that can scratch plastic.

I'll give skinomi a try. Thanks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I took mine back for a refund. They just cost too much and made the screen feel unatural. They let me keep the one I had installed already until my new protectors came.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
People have been saying that the skinomi ones are too long I think... I'd recommend the phantom skinz one since I've had no problem, they have a cut out for the sensors and camera (which the skinomi does not have) and they have a lifetime guarantee.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
this is the one im talking bout i ordered one it has lifetime replacements and openings for the sensors and cam it is awesome on the htc hero so i hope it continues
Well, all I know is that at least the first batch of Skinomis didn't turn out so well. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746037
Too long, but possibly good customer service? And like I said, no cutouts for the lights/sensor/camera. Skinomi has gotten plenty of good reviews for other phones, but for some reason the ones for the Epic haven't been well received.

Yup! I am no doubt in the minority but I have managed to scratch my screen. It was in strange circumstances having to do with hiking on a trail (and I hardly ever hike, less have my phone out...) but scratchedy it went. No 20ft heights or bouncing. Just fell face down from my pocket on a dirt path with a pebble somewhere in there. They're not invincible, people.
lol unless ur doing stuff like that you dont need a protector
under normal use pocket car table things like that no but if ur roughing it why not protect it and get a skinomi

Scratched mine easily... I have 2g steel plugs on my lobes, and the first time i heard them click against the screen I knew I'd have a problem. sure enough, there are tiny scratches from where my ear hit the screen. My fault for not putting a protector on sooner.
Also managed to put a little hairline scratch down by the menu button, but i have no clue how i did that.

Screen durability?

I've had an invisible shield hd on my screen since day 1..The protector started to fall apart so I removed it.. And the screen is so much more responsive..

There is a YouTube video claiming to be some dude poking his hox with a steak knife. I have an XtremeGuard condom on my screen and it feel fine. I can't take good care of my stuff (e.g. Keys in same pocket as phone) so I am not taking chances.
Not that Reliable
I used my HOX without screen for more than a month but from no where came a couple of scratches. Not from Sand. May be from my keys. I have no idea and I still feel bad for not having had a screen protector. Now I have a screen protector but I can still see the rainbow effect when I see the scratch through the screen protector. Please get a good screen protector if you cannot be extra careful with your phone.
My wife's iPhone 4s has gorilla glass 1 and no screen protector and not a single scratch is yet to be seen. I was expecting Gorilla Glass 2 to be more scratch resistant but I am really disappointed.
It's the oleophobic coating that is getting scratched. I dont think this was perfected in gorilla glass 1 so they may not have included it.
I will never use a device without a screen protector. Gorilla glass or not, glass is glass and plastic is plastic; they all scratch. Even diamonds scratch so I personally won't take chances.
I have Ghost Armour installed on my devices and everything works just as good as naked. If you already have scratches, try GA anyways, they claim to be able to fill scratches.

my exact opinion, either that or u protect ur screen like a maniac so the next owner scratches it for u.. nice job keepin it safe for the next owne ;D i still use a protector cause i plan on keepin this one mint till the One X + comes out cuz i wanna get the most $ i can get out of it
Every phone I have had sinve the windows mobile days have had screen protectors and many cases and extended batteries.. I think I have wasted more money on that crap then phones. lol not to mention the countless hours rooting and flashing roms to the point where the wife thinks im crazy. anyway just got the X and so far its naked and stock.. I have told myself this time. im gonna use the phone as a phone and not worry bout the little things outside of a case etc. not gonna root it or use a screen protector.. guess after 9 years of buying crap and rooting etc.. I need a break. and the one x so far has been great all around.. and the screen rocks naked. feels so much better.. bah anyway rant over... back to work.. lol
I currently have a screen protector on my phone and I hate it. However, I was noticing micro scratches on my phone that also drive me crazy. Like others have said, it is in the coating on the glass but they are permanent. At least with a screen protector, I can swap it out every couple weeks.

You might only have experience with cheapo protectors. A good quality one (Skinomi and Bodyguardz are ones I've used) does not change the look of the screen at all. A quality protector is also difficult to scratch. I've had a Skinomi on an HTC Flyer for over a year, and had a Bodyguardz on my Desire Z for a year and a half, both with no prominent scratches, and protectors still looks close to new. Maybe some superficial scuffing visible in just the right light, but completely invisible when the screen is on. Good protectors also show fingerprints much less than the naked screen, so they actually end up looking better than no protector.
Some people on here have gotten some serious scratches on Gorilla Glass with normal use. Others have claimed no use even after significant abuse. Everyone's experience tends to be a little different.. But more than a few people have showed up on here with bad scratches, wishing they had used a protector. So that is the point of using them. And once you have a scratch on the screen, you can't undo it.
There is a slight difference in feel with a protector. For some that is a legit deal breaker, for others the difference is negligible. Using a protector or not is a very personal choice. I'm totally with you that phones are meant to be used. I don't baby my phones at all. Have never used a case. But I prefer to use a screen protector.

Oleophobic coating scratching on a 3 week old phone?

I bought the galaxy s4 in the beginning of May. I did not put on a screen protector, having used iPhones from the 3G to the 5 the last 4 years, I have never had any screen scratches on any of them, so I assumed the galaxy series is the same thing.
Now just 3 weeks later, the top left of my display has a bunch of small scratches and glare spots. I know this is the oleophobic coating because if I wipe it down, the scratches all disappear, and only reappear after I put fingerprints on them and such. I haven't been near any beaches and I don't abuse my phones, and with my past 5 iphones, I have never had a scratch, so what gives?
By the way, since I am out of the 14 day return period, can I get this replaced under warranty? Should I go through AT&T or Samsung? Store or online?
I DO have Assurion, and my Citi Forward Visa would have a 50 dollar deductible to pay the 200 dollar Assurion deductible, so it would cost me only 50 for an Assurion replacement, but if I can do this through a warranty exchange, it would be better.

Serious question: did you have your earlobe pierced recently? I know earrings and piercings wear off the coating when you hold the phone to your ear.
If you do not want to bother with exchanging, maybe try cleaning it well and affixing a screen protector?
Have no thoughts on the return/exchange process (but bumping your msg up.

I could be wrong but as far as I've always understood oleophobic coatings all they do is resist fingerprints and has nothing to do with resisting scratches.. In fact its very easy to get very light superficial scratches in the coating itself and not the glass.. Again I could be wrong...
You can always call AT&T or Samsung and ask about if it could be a warranty issue... But I'm pretty sure they're going to tell you its normal wear and tear from everyday use

Ive had oleophobic coated screens in the past and once they started getting like that ive taken acetone or ensolv if you know what it is to it. Wiped it all around and it was perfect. It doesnt do anything to the glass but be careful about the phone itself, ensolv kind of melts plastic if you let it sit too long. My advice is to tape off the screen and try it out

Oleophobic coating helps resist scratches too believe it or not. The coating's best feature in my opinion is making the screen smooth to glide on and side benefit of that is resisting smudges. But I always use screen protectors so I don't get to experience it much. The good screen protectors with Oleophobic on them are on the pricey side.

So your carelessness is AT&T's fault?
To you and the OP, you both claim to be very careful with your phone but have 'lots of scratches' seems to me you were not that careful. I had my note 2 fir a month, with the flip cover, not a scratch. It fell on a floor face down and the cover opened from my lap while sitting in a chair, a few small scratches occured. Guess what, my fault. I bought a screen protector (only one I could find locally was the one that came with an otterbox commuter case). Seems like you should accept responsibility for what happens to your phone after you take it home.

What kind of scratch? Screen protectors can just cover it up so that you can ignore it and prevent further scratches. This saves at least $40 and prevent s you from having to open the phone up

If your screen is not to scratched, you can install a privacy screen protector or a matte one, and you wont notice it anymore. Remember this will work only if it's not to much damage on the screen. Send photos to see the damage if you have them.
Liquid Armor will not Fix or Fill or Protect you screen.
It may only give you Water Spill-Resistant for a short time.
Please test it with Soil, Dust or Sand & you will learn a big lesson like my friend...!

I'm also for XO Skin. Spectacular stuff; and it WILL take away scratches that aren't super deep. Spigen seems good, but its a dry application that's more of a hard film. It may take away some light scratches, but I don't think it will get in and fill the deeper scratches that you may have. XO would be your best bet. There's other wet protectors, but from what I've tried, the others are junk.

Xgear Tempered Glass Protector for the back

Seen it, searched the forum, and thought I'd share.

Great! Did you get an estimated shipping date?
I don't want to wait ages for a $$$ protector... (A lot of the other Nexus 4 glass protectors seem to have horrible delays in shipping or never seem to materialize at all...)

It just said orders are shipped out 24-48 hours after they are received. I chose USPS priority mail.

I hope I'm wrong but I think this will add bulk to the phone which might be an issue for some if not most cases/bumpers, specially if you are already using a front glass protector. Again I really hope that I'm wrong and look forward to seeing any pictures/video reviews of the item from the community.

"bulk" ? It's .5mm!
After having the front one from them which is .4mm I found that it adds a little (for lack of a better word) bulk to the phone. The cases/bumpers would normally have a nice lip around the phone so when you put the phone face down the screen would never touch the surface but with the front glass SP that nice space that the lip would create would be diminished because the cases/bumpers don't go on top of the glass SP but right next to it pushing against it, so in my head I'm thinking that having that in the back or having both in front and back would be a bad result. Maybe I'm not explaining myself right but it makes sense in my head :silly:
Has anyone received this yet?
I'm very curious about this product, I'm wanting to use my phone naked (yes I'm crazy - but extremely careful) never ever dropped any of my phones.
I agree. Has anyone received this yet??

Hey I did receive it a while ago. I had some complications with it. When I applied it to the back of my phone it made it look really weird... It looked kind of like there were air bubbles underneath and looked kind of smashed on the bottom. I removed it to see if I applied it again if it would look different. Same thing. I was a little disappointed about how it looked and took it off. The bottom where it appeared to be smashed wasn't actually smashed. It was part of the adhesive that was not sticking to the glass. The entire back of the protector is a thin layer of adhesive. I ended up peeling the adhesive off the screen protector. It was kind of like a double-sided, thin, sticky piece of rubber, if that makes sense... I'm sorry I don't have pictures. I love xgear products but this is the poorest experience that I've ever had from an xgear product (really the poorest experience I have ever had from any product i've bought for my n4) . I think maybe if the adhesive was only on the edges like it is on the screen protector it would have been better. I think the air bubble looking effect was from the adhesive sticking to the phone... I don't want my money back or a replacement if it was even possible. My phone was very very clean before I applied it, I understood fully what I was doing when applying it. It just wasn't a great product at all. I still love xgear though.
Edit: Oh and to answer the question about the official nexus 4 bumper, Yes it will work with this. Also, shipping was very quick.
Wow so sorry to read that you had such a poor experience with it. That sucks!
If at all possible, could you take a few pictures of the screen protecter and the adhesive that was bubbling up? Thanks!

Could be possible that it was a bad batch?
Hopefully someone will upload some photos soon!
I thought the full clear no border tempered glass protectors had the same rule as the dry screen protectors. Namely that you get the bubbles out that you can and then the rest come out after 24-48 hours. If you look at the installation instructions on the clear protectors for other phones I believe that is correct.

How did you removed it?
SENT FROM MY RAGING NEXUS⁴ ?
I've already thrown it away. When I say it looks like air bubbles I mean something different. They weren't air bubbles at all. That's just the best way I could describe it. You can remove the protector by just prying it off from one of the edges..
I should have taken pictures but I was so disappointed I just threw it away. It was a really weird issue. If you have the money to spare try it out yourself. I love the idea of the protector but I won't be buying another one. I wouldn't even want one if it was free. I don't think it was defective... I think it was just the way it was made. And just to make it clear I'm not wanting to make the company look bad, I myself just wasn't satisfied with the product. I love xgear and the screen protector I bought from xgear that is on my phone right now.
