[App Request] File Explorer or Video Player restricted to specific folder - Android Apps and Games

I have a collection of videos that are kid friendly and a collection of videos that are not kid friendly and I'm looking for an app that will present the list of kid friendly movies to the android user while blocking any access to the not kid friendly movies (or any other file).
Currently I have the videos in separate folders so I see this is really being a "restricted file explorer" or a "video player locked a specific folder" app - but I'm open to suggestions. Is there an app out there that does this?
Thanks!

You can use MX PLAYER... Go to Settings-->List--> Video Folders... Select the folders which you want to display... Simple... Or, you can create an empty .nomedia folder...

That looks like what I want...but this restricts MX Player as the kids video player and I like using MX Player for the non-kid videos. Is there a way to run MX player to be restrictive with a run-time switch?

Try a .nomedia manager on market (i only know Studio Kuma nomedia manager personally).
You can easily manage .nomedia files on your sd with it.
A .nomedia file in a folder prevents the folder contents to be scanned as media (could depends on your player app options too though).
You have to force a media scan once done.

[Q] How to take advantage of SRS with another player?

Hello!
I've got my Sensation yesterday
Loving it, despite of the bugsss
I see that Sensation can config SRS in the default player, wanna use it with speakers
But I rarely use the default player =\ .. mostly mSpot and I'm thinking of testing Google Music, both having their "custom" players
Is it possible to take advantage of SRS with any other streaming music player?
Or make the default player see the songs downloaded by mSpot? (yea.. I wasn't able to make it do that )
That's weird, cuz it can find musics downloaded by "MP3 Music Download". And it's not the codec either, it's m4a by mSpot.
Thanks in advance!
SRS and Dolby 5.1 are only available through stock apps from my experience. To get your media to show up in the stock app use an app that causes a new media search. SDRescan is free on the market. I use Extended Controls.

Thanks for your reply.
I tried the SDRescan, but it didn't work =\
I've also rebooted the phone.. it just doesn't see the mSpot folder -.-
I'm not familiar with mSpot. You say it stores m4a files on your phone? Try to look for the directory with Astro or Estrong. I'm betting they aren't there or are in a hidden directory. Make sure you set the file manager to show hidden files. Check mSpot to see if there is a setting that allows you to hide media from the Android system. Subsonic has a setting like that.
I did a test copying the mSpot file to another folder.. it was able to see the music
So I guess the file is not the problem
But still can't make it to scan mSpot folder

The files are there. Didn't find any setting like that.
I think I'm just gonna try Google Music (to sync) and play them with default player
Thanks, though!
Oh.. I found a file named ".nomedia" inside mSpot's folder
After deleted that file, it was able to scan the folder ^^
But the song's properties (song name, singer, album..) are encrypted, so they're all messed up XD can't use it!
Just gonna try Google Music..
Use Volume+.

That sucks man. DRM sucks. Yeah any folder with a file .nomedia or any folder that begins with a . is hidden from a media scan. The period first in the name is how you label a file or folder hidden in Linux.

[Q] Newcomer with stupid questions :)

Hello, guys. I was reading this forum, but didn't find answers on my questions.
1) When I copied music from my PC to XOOM, some album arts were missing, I used Album Art Grabber to download arts, but Music player doesn't see new album arts (Winamp and other sees).
2) I've read a lot of forums, but didn't find out how I can copy .avi files to xoom to watch them.
Thanks.

The album art thing is tricky...I have some issues with it too as I have a lot of alternative and obscure music.
Mobo Player and a number of other apps play AVIs just fine.
Yes, when using alternative players everything is ok, but I want to use system players.
I can't understand why system music player doesn't see changes in music library.
I have seen this problem with the system music player before. I've tried rebooting and renaming the jpg's and this is what I have found works everytime.
1) I use "Cover Art Grabber" to get all missing artwork. This is just my preference. I also try to both include the artwork as "albumart.jpg" and have the artwork part of the tag information.
2) I reset the music player data. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, Click All and then scroll down to "Music" and click "Clear data".
Don't worry this does not delete any of your music and it forces the application to reload all of the album art. The only downside is that if you are using Music Beta with the cloud storage you will need to reselect your Google account. Not a big deal.

Convert them to mp4 or use another player.
If you are looking for a simple, easy to use converter for the Xoom I would HIGHLY recommend DVD Catalyst. It has profiles specifically for the Xoom so it could not be easier. It will convert files you already have or rip from DVD.

I know there are cheaper, even free, solutions out there but for me the simple interface and high quality conversions was worth the $10.

Any free music player what can properly sort files?

Hello.
Is there a music player that know how to properly sort files, so after file1 it would play file2 and not file10 ?
Thank you.
You have to turn shuffle off.
Yes, Captain Obvious, it IS off.
For some reason all players I've tried so far sort files as:
file1
file10
file11
file12
...
file2
file20
file21
This goes to sorting by filename or data in ID3 tags
In PHP/MySQL it's called "natural" sorting, I believe
Sorry. But that was the first thing that came to me. What phone do you have?
Google Music Player
That's the best music player anywhere online or offline
winamp ?
Uber Music by Federico Carnales has an advanced media scan and he claims it uses "true shuffling" so you can try that..
I had this same problem (while using CM9 music player) and I found that by hitting party shuffle it fixed it?
first try to rename file1 to file01 and file2 to file02 eccetera eccetera... After that i used doubleTwist Player, freeware from Google Play, you can create playlists with that.
I like TTPod

try to rename the files and then use the doubletwist player
TTPOD is the best music player...

If I have to rename files any player would do just fine. It defeats the point of this topic - finding a player that sorts files properly.
They are being sorted properly, all operating systems recognize 10 as coming before 2. Use a program like Mp3tag to automatically rename all of your music files to the correct convention; 01, 02.......10,11, etc.

And what the "all operating systems" are you referring to? Windows sort them just fine without prepending with zeros.

[Q] MX Not Detecting Files

HI!
I usually download all my torrents on mobile including my TV shows.Recently,I downloaded arrested development season 1,mkv file and was watching it using mx Pla:yer prowhen all of a sudden my mx player stopped detecting those videos. So now I have to use my file explorer then navigate to downloads and then finally select a file and click it.This ****'s irritating ,so could you guys give me your advice, since you people know more?
@rashadthegre check
Settings > List > Folders
And see if your download folder is in the list of folders to be searched by MX.

Hi,
MX Player can detect most files with default setting.
But there are still some devices not detecting all files unless adding folders manually.
It would be help for improving default setting if you send system log after refreshing video list.
Please make sure that log should be gather immediately after refreshing video list because it will be erased periodically.
Thanks

Some of your video folders contains a file named ".nomedia". It actually represents that there is no media content inside the folder. So, if you keep any videos inside that directory or any subdirectory, it will be ignored.
For example your download folder in internal memory & media folder on external memory has ".nomedia" files. That's why it's not getting listed.
Either you have to delete those files or alternatively you can force MX Player to scan the directories even if ".nomedia" file found (Goto Settings >> List & Disable "Recognise .nomedia". Then, Refresh the video list.

.vdat looks like just alias of .mp4
Anyway it will be added on next version for convenient use.

[Feature request] SMB Authentication

As I know, MX Player supports SMB if started from programs like ES Explorer. But today i had to deal with network share, that requires authentication. MX didn't asked me about credentials, but instead failed to open file. Hence my feature request: add SMB authentication.

MX Player doesn't support network shares directly. As you said other apps can forward the url to MX Player. So that it can be played. I am using MX Player to play videos from "Protected" network shares. But, never had an issue.
Can you collect the logs immediately after playing the file & upload here.?

Starting MX from com.rhmsoft.fm (succesfull): View attachment report_2015-04-10_083952.zip
Looks like first failed attempt can be due a bug on ES Explorer side.
Initializing reproduction from ES Explorer or DS Files works, but on my smartphone and on my Minix android media station the experience is worse than MX file browser.
For instance MX integrated file browser would:
- remember last file played or what's new and what's not
- be easily browsed with a tv remote
- easily allow to delete watched files
- remember last position of a movie to resume
therefore it would be very nice to add SMB folders to the interface folders!

SMB support is already there in our roadmap. We will try our best to make that possible at the earliest.
