HTC Warranty Question - General Questions and Answers

I bought a T-Mobile HTC One S in October. Recently, the battery has become defective because it only holds charge for a couple hours on standby. I want to send it to HTC for a replacement phone since it is till under warranty. However there is a scratch across one corner of the screen(It may be cracked, but I can't tell), yet it is still completely functional. Will HTC still replace it, or will they charge me for a replacement phone since it is scratched.

If it's scratch you are good to Go..

Unlikely

It seems unlikely that HTC would replace the phone. It's way cheaper to change just the battery. However, most companies may service devices for manufacturing problems. Things like battery aren't covered most of the time.
But give it a try. Maybe call HTC?

Can I return my sensation for having dust under screen

I have had this phone for about 2 weeks, and I have gotten a large amount of dust under the screen, is this an ok reason to exchange it?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
they returned mine on tmobile us
Vodafone UK swapped mine for dust under the screen without even seeing the phone, just arranged it through Customer Services. This was after only 2 days with the handset though.
and ur new devices r good ???? ...... no dust yet or what ???
I think regardless of what you do your going to get dust under the screen.
I've had 3 phones swapped out now and all 3 have had dust get under the screen. I have just had the handset replaced and recieved my brand new phone from T-Mobile UK this morning. I have literally only just opened the box and removed the packaging from the new device to find dust already under the screen from new !!!!
I just called earlier today and got them to overnight a replacement. I wouldn't have done it but they appeared over night and the cluster was rather larger and quite noticeable. Also because the wifi seemed pretty shoddy compared to my friends Sensation. They asked if I had dropped the phone and to verify the water damage tab was white. No hassle.

Warantee replacement of back cover

I called HTC after dealing with tech support about poor signal quality and was refereed to repair. I gave them all my info and told them that I have read that many people with poor signal quality have had improved signal with a new back cover and asked if I could get a new one and she told me that 1 of each accessory is covered under warranty. I didn't ask what all the accessories are because I only needed the back cover. I wonder what exactly is covered.
Charger, battery, usb cable, back cover, headphones
Sent using two tin cans and some string.....
This topic has been covered many times. They will replace each once within the first year of purchase.

Sweet. I didn't see it. I don't have any of that stuff other than the battery but I don't need it. I certainly am not going to abuse the system but I think it's important that people know they don't have to make up stories about peeling back covers. Just ask for the part and it's covered. The HTC lady kinda jumped at the opportunity to make me happy.
I-ll go to Vodafone today with same problem. Signal and creacky back cover. I hope won't take 10 working days.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
hjkl;' why no delete?
I could use a new battery cover. My phone fell and the edges got dented.
Also, wouldn't mind getting a second battery so I don't have to buy one.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
i droped mine on Vodafone store today. the best news are : the phone is under warantee for 24 months when you buy it from Vodafone so its enough time to fix my signal. i mean i-ll send it on 20 times if is necesarry but i dont accept a smartphone what cost 10 times more then Vodafone V858 to be owned by V858
back cover
back cover is on back order because to many people are creating htc system!!!!! I have to wait!!!! I woulder if they would cover sd card to!!!!
hjkl;' why no delete?
i`m on Vodafone Ireland
its 24 months anyway
my problem is : i want signal issue fixed
when you see a 30eros phone having 2-3 bars EDGE signal on low signal area and your 500euros phone have NO SIGNAL .... its frustating
if HTC have a problem i wont agree to use my monney for testing
I mailed the support in Sweden and told them that my backcover have started to become creaky, they said I should send it to the reseller so they can repair it.
I've seen some people getting replacements by just asking, should I stand on myself so I can get a replacement backcover?
Maybe referring to some part of the warranty agreement?
so ..
if you want that for the monney you payed its no problem
my opinion its ... htc was traying hard to get Sensation on the market
was Pyramid first and supose to come with 15 Megapixels camera but they got a problem with that camera and was renamed Sensation and come with the same camera what Desire HD have i think
another think is they want to emploee an RF Specialist (RF=Radio Frequency)
so at any time i-ll get 2-3 cheap phones with me and i-ll enter to an area/elevator/basement shops and i-ll prove HTC Sensation is the first phone who lose signal when another phone have 2 bars signal and you verry confortable can have a phone call. Until HTC Sensation will have an decent signal, mime will be sent to warantee so manny times will be necesary
i have over 5 phones (N95, E51, E52 Vodafone Smart and an LG) so i can wait for a good htc sensation
PS: https://secure.htc.com/ca/fr/about/careers/senior-rf-design-engineer/146
@Lullebulle you go to your network representative and tell them what is the problem i think they will colect the phone and sent it to HTC after
Hmm...seems they are having issues with getting the back cover shipped. I was supposed to get my replacement by yesterday at the latest, but it's being held up at customs for whatever reason. Just something I thought I'd share.
Which number do I contact to get the back cover? I actually need one but it's not so dire a situation that I can't wait for the back log. Just glad I don't have to send back the entire phone which I haven't had for a week just to get a back cover that fits properly.
Thanks

re: back cover
I just received my back cover today, it took them a week. -- Ijust made a story just to get a spare back cover as at that time I was thinking of using the phone naked but got a case-mate 'barely there' instead, So, I now have a spare cover.

Called HTC Support UK +44 1279 206906 , advised them that I just noticed that my back cover is not catching the locking mechanism. The advisor made a ticket and the next day I received the confirmation from tech support that they're sending me the replacement cover quoting the support ticket. here's the pic..

Sidekick 4g started smoldering/smoking/fizzing

When I bought this sucker i managed to crack the digitizer in my pocket on day one. Tmobile wouldn't accept it so i just kept on using it. well i noticed my phone felt extremely hot in my pocket the other day.. and smoke was coming out the usb port. Of course because of the "physical damage" to the screen mobile wont' exchange it and in order to get a new one with insurance i'd have to spend more than I did on the phone in the first place. More money than I can spend with out falling short on rent. This is where you come in. If any of you have a broken SK4g say with a shattered screen/ cracked hinge, basically any sort of physical damage that doesn't effect the motherboard inside and you'd be willing to part with it for cheap. Please, PLEASE let me know.
An update. It killed the charge circuit and i'm getting by using an old sidekick lx and alligator clips to charge the battery... Its not pretty but its working! I'm sure this is hell on the battery.
you could buy a battery charger from ebay, then just swap batterys from the charger.
I've had my sidekick get hot at random one day an quickly removed the battery seams that it does it once an a while not sure why since my last phone a samsung memior also got rather hot aswell when gps was on.
I think Mine may have been close to doing that. I left it on the charger overnight. Woke up in the middle of the night several hours later and it was nearly burning hot! It usually charges completely in about 2 or so hours, but had only charged about 40% or less at the time.
It also slid under a blanket as a slept. That may have been a factor. I have noticed it gets a little warmer while on clothe as it charges.
still got this thing charging. It just sucks having zero use of the usb port any more. Once again please let me know if you've got any broken sidekicks i could use to Frankenstein.
You can get a used SK4g in good condition for about $150 (on the low end) off of eBay. That is really not a bad price.
Have any of you calibrated the battery when it is fully charged? This might be the issue?

i'm sorry but $1 is a too much to spend on a phone when the one you pay insurance on dies in under a month. Its a matter of principal and not money. Money I have, patience for criminals I do not. Long story short I bought a brand new sk4g out of contract through tmobile. its screen went completely wonky. Woudn't replace it because of a whitish pink hue on the the sticker despite never coming near water, spills, or even a steamy bathroom. Swapped out my old sk4g screen and the problem persisted leaving me with another ****ed motherboard. I was gonna go out and buy another phone before I came to my senses and decided to spend the money canceling my contract with tmobile. Don't buy this phone who ever you are. Don't buy it used. Don't buy it new, don't even take it for free, and most especially don't pay for insurance because its a ****ing scam.
This is a horrible phone, Gave it to my daughter to use as a game/MP3 thing,...and haha. Barely does that. It gets SOOO HOT Doesn't help that the ONLY good dev. we had for this left a long time ago (AyoTeddy) and the other ones we had we lil children. Looking at RAD

Warning - Fake screens on eBay

Hello fellow Nexus 4 users.
http://imgur.com/a/mDmv2
I replaced my N4 screen after an unfortunate drop with a replacement assembly available on eBay for approx £35 including frame, digitizer and LCD.
The colours of the screen were appalling. See images in the link. There are counterfeit screens circulating.
May our N4s live on forever more!

Sorry to hear that. Today you can get anything fake from ebay.
Though, it wouldn't be bad if you put link to that buyer or item
The seller has dealt with the issue well so far, I'm not sure they knew they were selling a fake screen. I will post further details if I am not compensated/refunded.
Are you certain it's a counterfeit and not a re-sold piece that had actually failed QA/QC?
I don't think it's possible for an authentic screen to be of such poor quality. You could be right - I dont know much about LCD manufacture
Wondering if it is even worth replacing these parts on a phone that's over 2 years old. Not sure about pricing in UK but here in the US you can pick up a mint or refurbished one for close to the price you paid. If I busted my N4 I think I would prob have to move on and get a newer phone although I would miss perhaps the most perfect phone ever made.
I'm actually debating what to do with a N5 I have with a cracked screen sell it as is or try and find a replacement. The problem I'm Runing into is finding a stock LCD that is not cracked and makes sense price wise. If only I had a screen seperator the stupid glass can be had for $5.

This is the sad truth I've just discovered. I dropped my phone a few months back and now have an unresponsive stripe across my screen...I went looking for a screen replacement to find out I'd only save about $30 as opposed to buying a used mint condition N4. It's not worth the aggravation of doing all that work just to save a couple bucks, IMHO.
Yes I agree. I'm now debating getting a LCD separation machine and try to salvage the digitizer and LCD. Anyone ever attempt such a job?
kgiri247 I know this isn't the place to talk about selling phones but if you do want to sell it I'll more than happily take it off your hands, inbox me if you want to talk numbers! What I do know about separating the LCD and Digitizer is that it's very risky, they're two very delicate pieces of hardware and any mistakes could lead to having an expensive paperweight until you could find a replacement screen for it!
Yeah, it's getting to be a tough decision for a home who has something go wrong on these. I love this phone though as well as the development community for it. I might keep this phone just because the development community is excellent.
However if I had to get a new phone, I saw Amazon is selling the Kindle Fire phone unlocked for $199

as far i can see on your images, your screen is original and coming from LG, how many months do you have it? do you have any other synthom than yellowish colours??
Have you double a check for how many fingers you can press? The N4 is 10 right, but some of the really cheap screens only support 5. You'll know very quickly whether it's fake or not.
bought a replacement screen for the n4 and the screen is horrible. has 2 dead pixels and the viewing angles are the worst ive ever seen on a cellphone.

If it's too good to be true, it usually is I'm afraid. The most expensive parts of a mobile phone are usually the screen and the battery, seeing as both are advanced pieces of technology. Processors, RAM, motherboards etc are cheap in reality, that's why you can buy a pretty powerful Android TV stick for cheap. No battery, no screen.
Nexus 4's are cheap nowadays, smash a screen, it probably isn't worth buying another screen unless you can be guaranteed of OEM'ness. It isn't all that hard to replace a digitizer though, so if your LCD panel is good, it might be worth giving it a try.
Where would you be able to buy a genuine part then?
Is this something you should bite the bullet and send to LG for repair to atleast be guaranteed a genuine part?
Edit
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
I just had mine replaced by LG for a defective ribbon cable which left the touch screen complete unresponsive. I went this route due to all the complaints about bad screens. $160 later, my N4 looks and works great! Pretty expensive though.
I had ordered a replacement from a seller within the US on eBay. I can't seem to find the sale anymore, but it was the real deal.
I had purchased a Nexus 4 and it came with a crappy replacement display, so I ordered a new one and did the swap myself.
It looks like a whole new phone.
Thanks for the info guys!
I'm from the UK like op and I was considering getting the replacement screen myself from ebay but I don't know if the seller replaced the part he gave to op and if it was genuine because they do have some good fakes on ebay.
I might just bite the bullet and do it myself I don't know the price for repair here Reeves360 but I'm sure it'll be similar to what you paid.
These phone manufacturers still charging extortionate prices on a nearly 3 year old phone.
I've long wondered about the legitimacy of the replacement screen I got off eBay. I bought from a seller that had sold a ton of them and had excellent feedback. But the screen always seemed like it was dim (had to crank it all the way up to be as bright as my other devices at 2/3-3/4 max brightness, plus the color is very cool/bluish. But it was always responsive and never had any ghost touches.
However, a couple days ago, it has started to freak out. Occasionally, after touching it, the bottom half or so flashes black. Somtimes it's one flash, sometimes it's a few flashes. It still responds perfectly while doing this, but it's obviously not normal. I disassembled it, gave the connectors a whack of Deoxit and ProGold, and reassembled it, but the glitching still remains, so it's not the connector. I need to try flashing something different (or maybe just dirty flashing LS again) to see if it's ROM or kernel related. I made some changes to Hellscore settings and I finally figured out why my battery life was so atrocious the last few months (it somehow got set minimum 2 cores online), so it's possible I screwed something else up.
If the problem is that it's a fake screen, I doubt the seller was aware.
It was the kernel (settings). Not sure what caused it, but I reflashed the kernel, reinstalled HK manager, and the screen hasn't glitched out since.

screen replacement

Yesterday was first day back at work after a more or less off the grid vacation. had been at work less than 5 minutes when i dropped the phone and the screen looks like if someone drove over it with a car.
So, do anyone have any experience replacing the screen for the U11 Life and/or where to buy a new complete screen and lcd?
I think i will buy a xiaomi mi 9 as a backup phone... :silly:
You are pretty noobish, you don't say your country, nothing, you can find a complete screen for u11 life on god damn it GOOGLE, you can type on google, screen replacement for u11 life.... aliexpress, a lot of retailers sell them, or a GSM Service, ebay, amazon etc... What experience to have? Is an flat screen, not a curved one which need good glue/adhesive etc
when it comes to replacing the screen, yes. never done that before. have had mobile phone since 1992-1993 and this was the first screen i ever shattered. i have replaced cameras, charging ports and some other stuff, but never any screen.
the main concern was, because U11 life is water resistant, i do not want to break any seal by trying to open or remove parts the wrong way.
i've used a singapore based company for parts before, they are good with parts, but it can take up to 4-5 weeks to reach the cold north country of sweden. but then again, i've ordered a OP7 pro yesterday so the wait is no problem in a couple of days.
