[Q] Options for CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.4 ODEX - Asus Transformer TF700

I'm running CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.4 ODEX and have not posted enough to post in the actual development thread...so posting in General. This is a fresh install and the main application I am running after install is Waze (gps location type app for driving/navigation). Running this application results in random system reboots. So I am wondering what options should I select or not select in order to ensure stability? I'm basically tried all the kernel patches with this install. I'm not sure what I should turn off. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

What options did you select when you installed (other than default ones) and how long does it work before rebooting? Does the back of your tablet get warm while using this app? I know my tablet has had issues in the past when it gets too hot. You could try making sure your tablet is not in performance mode and see if that helps at all.
I just installed it and it hasn't crashed for me yet, although my tablet did get warm (probably because my tablet is overclocked in performance mode at the moment).

I remember the Cross Breeder Optimization Patch with virtually everything else enabled as well. Perhaps I'll go back through and bit a more restrictive on my options. I didn't check the back for heat but I'm running in balanced mode and there kernel is not an OC'd one. If anyone has additional suggestions please let me know. I'll probably wait for 4.5 to try again.

I don't understand why you didn't post this in the Q&A section or the cromi-x thread it's self.. You would get a lot more feed back.

After a random reboot, save the file /proc/last_kmsg and post it. It may contain relevant error messages.

Good advice from _that. Also reflash without cross breeder first.

Great advice -- got it from sbdags bbefoe -- but after most if not all random reboots, somehow, my 700 won't boot into the OS, and hangs at the very first screen with "ASUS" and a lot of smaller white lettering. At that point, I will have to reboot it manually, losing the last_kmsg in the process. Frustrating.

The forum software won't allow me to post in the thread I do understand that but I don't have permission until I post 10 posts or some such. Once I'm there I will definitely take part and move my questions to the development thread.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look at trying this as well. Excellent ROM btw...I'm running the older 3.4.7 on my wife's tf700t. Like night and day speed wise.

I also don't have enough street cred to post in the developers forum, so I thought I'd highjack this.
I just wanted to confirm what a few other people have said in the CROMi-X thread. The odex data2sd mod doesn't work. You have to flash the _that data2sd mod over the top to get it going. I've tried a few times to no avail. I tested write speeds and looked in the root and it definitely wasn't happening. The files are there in /system/boot but no-ones home. I don't understand anything about the inner workings so I can't be of much further help.
Awesome rom and kernel though guys. Seriously, love it!

That's one of the few things that I didn't attempt to load was the data2sd mod. I have a 64gig device so w00t. Looking back now though, if I had it to do over again I would NOT have purchased the TF700t. I really thought it would be a better device. One thing I look for now is 2 gigs of physical memory. My Note 2 simply runs rings around the TF700t. I still haven't had any reason to put a ROM on the Note2. TF700t doesn't even function properly without something like CROMi.

Quite generic. What specific customization you have done? for example, launcher? any other apps that set to set some configurations on boot? more information may be helpful to see what may be going on..

Firstly, this should go to Q&A forum, I am sorry for posting it here.
No customization other than installing a few apps, like Engadget, Skype, Arseblog, and some games. None of them should require something while booting.
Launcher and background is same, I just got it 2 days ago.

No no , don't take me wrong. when I said quite generic I meant please describe / include a bit more info for discussion =) that acore process is quite generic one.
Sorry that caused some misunderstanding.
Did you try to flash it back to stock (since you haven't have tons of customizations yet, but still, backup information data you may have).
If you use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052644
to do a stock flash of boot.img system.img recovery.img userdata.img
does this problem still occur? Seems to me it is some minor system glitch. Hopefully it will go away once you flash it to stock.

Root gone wrong SGT 2 7.0

Hello guys,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and wanted to mess around with it and root it. I thought I did everything correctly - it won't let me post the site I used .
However, now I am in a pickle. Whenever I start my SGT, it gets to the Samsung loading screen, does the intro tune, and then just starts all over again. I tried doing a hard reset and I tried wiping all of the cache/saved files/etc. but nothing seems to work. I am at a loss as to what I can do. Has anyone seen this before or is there a way around it? Is there anything I can do?
Much Appreciated,
Sam

I am not entirely too sure, to be honest - I wish it would be let me post the site I used haha.
I used the below ClockworkMod Recovery:
imnuts’ CWM Recovery image
I downloaded the developer nycbjr’s rooting package - cwm-root-gtab2.zip
Does that answer your question?
Kinda. Did you just want root or a custom firmware as well? I am am running the CM9 and I'm very pleased with it. :good: Not as flashy as the stock but it is a performer.

Honestly, I am not even 100% sure why I did it. I was browsing the Android Market and got some apps I liked. The issue arose when I tried using them it requested that I have root powers - I wasn't really trying to modify the os or anything like but was just looking to get root powers. If I hook up my phone to my laptop and put it into Recovery Mode and run Odin, can I PDA the CM9? Do you think that would help? Is there anyway to reset it through Odin? When I do a hard reset, literally nothing changes.
Please post the link to the root method you used. I have a hunch you tried to flash a zip for the gtab 10.1.

Yea, I can't post links in the forum yet, so... . The link above(broken up one), the android authority one, is where I found the root guide.
Can you access CWM recovery? BTW, you can post links if you uncheck "automatically parse links". Also, you don't have to email me, PM me, AND post here-- one of those will suffice.

I can access CWM recovery. However, none of the options in there seem to really do anything.
Edit: Yea, my apologies on that. I was trying to e-mail you the link and I didn't get a sent confirmation and it said I had nothing in my sent messages so I tried PMing you and the same thing happened. I'll stick to the forums so everyone can see this as it may help people, I just didn't know there was a way around the link . My bad.
It's fine. Back to work, what you call a soft bricked tab is what I call an opportunity to flash a new ROM. I'm a tab 10.1 guy so I can't recommend a specific ROM. But I've heard good things about Tab2Lite and CM9.
Sounds exactly like this problem.

I'm glad to hear there is a chance my birthday day present won't become a paper weight. I am still a little new to this stuff so I wanna make sure I am on the same page as you. The ROM that I used was cwm-root-gtab2, correct? I had to download a bunch of files and I am trying to make sense out of what is what. Now, when you said I need to get a new ROM, would that consist of me putting a new ROM on the external SD and then running that?

Basically if your tab is on the latest firmware image, you need the latest espresso file. I'm guessing that you were on 4.0.4 and the espresso file you first flashed was for 4.0.3. That happened to myself and a few other people as it's not really clear what you need in those guides!

[Q] Clockwork Mod Messed Up?

When I try to wipe data to install another rom my phone stays on the little android guy just saying formatting data. It's been like this for an hour. How long should it usually take? Thanks
That step shouldn't take more than a few seconds. I would try pressing a couple buttons to see if you can get back to the previous screen.
If that doesn't work I'd pull the battery and do the key combo to boot into recovery. I hate doing it this way though, I just can't ever seem to the combination correct. Hope it works better for you.

That is odd. The only thing that take more than a min is fixing permissions.

What version of CWM are you using? I heard that 6.0.2.9 had issues. Better to stick with 6.0.2.8 or the newest 6.0.3.0. Both are verified working fine.

It wouldn't hurt to Odin/flash up to 6.0.2.8, and then try again what you were having the original issue with.
There have been changes made since 6.0.2.3, and a newer version might offer you correct results.
I use the touch version all the time, so I would say that touch/non touch wouldn't be any different.

[Q] Deleted my OS!!!!!!

So I sell my Infinity on ebay tonight. Went to wipe my data via TWRP and managed to delete my OS. The device shows the ASUS bootup screen but goes nowhere.
I'm a near illiterate in terms of understanding root level work on the tablet, and my other handicap is that I am a Mac user which means that I am not familiar with some of the "lingo" people use when describing connections to their Windows OS (things like ADB, bootloader, that sort of stuff).
Can someone help me with a step by step fix, using basic language?
i was hoping to ship tomorrow. OTOH, if I've bricked the thing, give me the bad news and I'll refund the money.

No - you're probably ok.
Just boot up with Power and Volume Down, hold both buttons until you feel the tablet vibrate twice. Let go when you see the tiny script and you'll see the bootloader menu with three icons and RCK flashing. Push Volume up and you should boot into TWRP.
From here you can just re-flash the rom you wiped or the stock rom (although flashing the stock firmware would wipe out TWRP). You need to have the zip of your chosen rom on your internal storage already (but maybe you wiped it???) or on your microSD.
Ask if I was not clear enough.
Edit: LMK beat me to it - again... LOL

You don't. You have to copy the rom or firmware to your microSD.
Insert the card, boot into TWRP as described earlier.
Choose 'Install" and then navigate to your microSD and the zip you parked there.
Select it, swipe to flash it.
Now: I cringe, when someone on a perfectly fine and unlocked TF700 wants to flash back the Asus firmware. Ouch!
But I understand you only want to sell it and the buyer may not know how much better this tablet is on a custom ROM like CROMi-X. Sigh!
So, if you insist on flashing the latest firmware, go to the Asus support website, the download section, enter Transformer in the search box, select the TF700 and look for the 10.6.1.14.10 firmware. Make sure you select the one for your SKU, meaning US if you're on this continent (and I assume you are since you're awake at this time ), or WW or where ever you are.
Download the firmware and and on your computer, extract that zip file once - the result being another zip file.
It's that once extracted zip you want to copy to your SD, insert in your tab and flash in TWRP.
Ask if I left anything out.
Thanks. You're right, I'm in the US. But I am going to sleep. Will get on this in the AM.
You are correct to cringe. I rooted/C-romix'd a few months ago because I was frustrated by the constant lag on the tab. Figured if I bricked it, well, I wasn't happy with it anyway. I cringed when I went and did it because I knew I was taking a risk what with my capabilities. I've moved on to the Nexus 7 and just love it. Not just the performance. The small platform is just right....
Thanks for the rapid replies and the sophisticated yet understandable directions. Mostly, thanks for not calling me a knucklebrain even though I deserve it.

Problem #1: When I opened the ROM.zip, I didn't get another zip, I got a folder with no zips in it (a blob.exe, several other .exe). When I moved that over to the SD and chose to install it TWRP returned a "failure" notification.
I'd like to get the stock ROM on for the buyer. What should I do
Problem #2: I still have CROM-X on the external card. It is installing, but which kernel should I use?
I'm going to use sbdags stock, and if you think that's a mistake I'll reflash.

If you get the blob file you extracted once too often. The firmware is a zip inside a zip. You extract the downloaded file ONCE.
Stock kernel is fine.

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
I'm having a force close problem with Phone making the entire device inoperable. I'm not sure if it's a firmware problem because I don't know if I'm on the newest firmware. Can someone send me a link to the new firmware for fastboot flashing?

All error fixing info was posted by OP. It's the first post. You might be experiencing a simple problem of having to fix permissions in recovery through TWRP. Also, newest firmware is also listed wherever you downloaded it from, or use search to find it in another thread.

Link to the latest firmware is in the OP.
It's the 3.28.605.4 (4.4.4) firmware.
I've confirmed that I have the updated firmware and the problem still persists. I flashed the insecure kernel to make it turn on. Fixing permissions did not solve anything. I am using twrp. Since that may be the issue, which recovery do you expect to have the best results?
Not really a question, more of an observation. I have done all the instructions from your inital post. I only get systemui FCs when my phone isnt on vibrate/silent. If i have volume up and receive an email or text then i get the fc. Not sure if you care, just something i noticed. Really like the look and feel.
If you wiped system, data, cache and dalvik before flashing, you should be able to fix the ui force closes using the method posted in my OP and post 3.
Boot to recovery, fix perms, wipe cache and dalvik, fix perms once more for good measure, reboot...
I don't need symptoms or causes.
Thanks.
The ROM can be run without that recurring annoyance, or it wouldn't have been worth my time posting.
Try what was said, if it doesn't work, try again, reflash, etc..
Still doesn't work, I can't help. Sorry
Appears to be a lost cause for the time being then which is unfortunate. Thanks for the response. Good luck with the development.
So I'm pretty sure I followed all directions properly but wifi is broken. I'm on Verizon and my h.boot is 3.19.0, my radio is 1.09.20.0702, firmware is 3.28.605.4.
Boots up normally fast, I've cleared cache and dalvik after fixing permissions. Dunno where I screwed up at.

Just posting to confirm that this did indeed work for me. I followed all of Santods instructions to a T and still had systemui FC's whenever i received a hangouts notification. Flipped my ringer mode to silent/vibrate and all of the sudden no systemui FC. Thanks for your post. hopefully more people can see this and try it out. Other than that one problem I was having, this ROM has been absolutely amazing. Best of both worlds!
Same.. Force close after following all the directions

I'm having trouble booting into recovery. Since there is no APM, I power off and hold volume down and power and I just get a normal boot sequence, trying to boot into recovery from an app also does not work. I'm using TWRP 2.7.1.

Hold down the volume button and do a restart instead. Works better that way.

As soon as you hit restart..... And see the htc logo come on.... Hold volume down and power... Should take you to HBOOT screen... Then choose recovery
Has anyone been able to fix the notification FC's besides setting alerts to mute/vibrate?

As the post above you states, just volume down works fine and is simpler.
So as you said, wait to see HTC logo after hitting restart, then just press and hold volume down until hboot menu appears..
That is the simplest way to get to hboot/recovery.

Quite a few folks have posted that they were able to fix them using my instructions.
And others have posted that the rom is running well for them, no force close issues.
So I would say yes, someone definitely has.

We must be part of the unlucky few. Followed all of his instructions in the OP and still get the FC when im not on silent/vibrate. I have flashed several ROMs before and never had a problem with "following directions". Honestly, I never need to have my phone on sound, so I dont really care about the FC. It would just be nice to figure out what we are doing wrong. ROM is great and I think im definitely going to stay with this one for a while.
I literally have been trying for hours to get this to work... I have followed this to a 100% T and still no luck... Im clueless... After i had everything set up.. I removed my gmail account.. And all my text messages were perfect... I re added my gmail account and it started doing the forced closes all over again... So discouraged

You're like seriously an angry dev or something dude. I'm trying to get help from others since you don't seem to want to help other than snapping and telling people to move along. You got a cool thing going and I'm just trying to make it work.
I tried doing what you said a million times and wiped my phone a million times. So I'm trying to see if those that have gotten to work have actually gotten it to work or just thought they did like I did by putting the phone on vibrate. And maybe if they got it to work, they have something specific like that they might want to share to help others out. Much like I did when I said you have to wipe the system partition. I realize now that you put that in your instructions, but most people don't wipe system when they flash ROMs. Was I stupid? Yes. Should I have followed instructions to a T? Yes. But after flashing ROMs for a while, you start to assume things.

Did you reboot after you removed your gmail account? I just tried removing mine and still getting FC.
