[Q] Adding and changing fonts - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted and running stock Sammy Rom and want to change the system Font without using an app which hogs memory. I'd like to add new fonts to the existing list under display. I've read this can be done using the system/display folder but I can't find it. What are the technicalities of adding fonts?
It'd also be nice to be able to tweak/scale the font size (in pixels) and with more options than the stand list. Is this also possible?
Edit: Dohhhh, didn't even see the 'Get Fonts Online' option in the settings menu. What a plank......I'd delete the question if I could.
Saying that I'd still like to install Google Now's 'Roboto' italic natively rather than through a font changer. It's not listed in the Play Store as a 'Flipfont'.

[HACK][WORKAROUND][UPDATED]LCD Density workaround for market apps compatibility.

ok, so im running cm7(void # forever) on my optimus one with the latest market 3.4.4 & since something i tried out worked for me & my wife(running stock 2.3.4 on her samsung galaxy fit(GT-S5670)@100dpi) thought i should share this in case it helps.did not see it anywhere on xda when i searched so hoping that i did not post a already done topic in a new thread.
this is my first post so if i screw this up feel free to bash me
this is what u need to do step by step:
a)use root explorer or any other similar file explorer to go to the root of your device
b)scroll down to find the "system" directory & select to enter the folder
c)once inside remount system directory from read/only(r/o) to read/write(r/w)....(as shown in image 1 & 2)
d)scroll down to the build.prop file & long press for options and then select "open in text editor" (as shown in image 3 & 4)
e)once inside your build.prop, scroll down to find the line "ro.sf.lcd_density" (as shown in image 5)
f)my device has a default density of 160 and as you can see i changed it to 140 so go ahead & set the density you want for your device
g)now just save the changes & exit(image 6)
h)as you exit you will be notified that your original build.prop has been backed up to a file named "build.prop.bak" & you will find it right there in the system directory(image 7)
i did move this file out of the system directory & placed it on my sdcard!! didnt want any extra files or backups with the default settings in them just lying there you know!!!! just in case!!!! dont really know whether that matters any bit at all
now reboot your device & your dpi has changed. go into market & see if all the apps that are compatible with your device are still showing so.
note: the only catch is that apps(e.g ZIP Themer) that do not scale well will NOT,as the whole "compatibility mode on/off" option in LCD density changer app is ignored here. just gotta make your peace with that.
i attached some screenshots of the market showing apps in full & functional compatibility on my device running @ 140dpi
(UPDATE) Apps Installing despite market showing incompatibility
Ok, so my wife was fidgeting around in the market & she showed me something amazing. apps that should be compatible but are not can be still installed. apparently my precious hack was not 100% effective A few apps still showed incompatibility. But they can be installed too. Here's how you do it.
a)go to settings, select applications & then select manage applications.
b)find and select market & then select clear cache(trust me its needed)
Now you can go & search your desired app in the market
c)Choose the app and hit install before the whole app page loads,as in, the screenshots, reviews & details etc.
d)Choose accept & install and voila!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are installing an incompatible.
Attached some screenshots for proof!!!!!!!!!!!
This doesnt work anymore so if any of u wanna fix market compatibility issues please refer this link:

its not my work so please thank the op for his efforts on this if & when it worls for u

didnt know of it, thanks!!! but are market apps still compatible after you change the dpi settings on the new market?
I don't understand how this is a workaround. All that's done in OP is the dpi's changed in build.prop (which is what most apps/custom roms do anyway). Any apps that would be incompatible still are. Am I missing something?

i was talking about market apps that are compatible with a particular device becoming incompatible once you change your device's default display density to any other value.

I don't understand how it works but it works great for me! No more problems installing updates or new apps... Only did my updates that weren't working before and tried installing a few things so not sure it works for everything, but for what I wanted it's great!
OMG - someone fixed the market compatibility issue with non-standard LCD resolutions!!
well HALLELUJAH!!
below is the market app for the fix - this developer is apparently a GENIUS, being the first person on EARTH to SOLVE this frustrating issue! - I have tested it out on my G2 and it ROCKS!!

[Q] Raise the dpi

halo
i don't see so well and the Resolution in the one s is to high to me
i raise the DPI Through rom toolbox to 260
but i get some error of the system ui "Unfortunately system UI has stopped"
for example when i enter to "recent up" i got this erorr and i can't enter there....
there is a way to fix it ??
thanks
If I'm not totally wrong raising the resolution will result in smaller letters. You should lower it instead. So please try it.
And you can change letter size within settings -> display & gestures -> font size. By default it is medium, so you can change to large or extra large.
At least under accessibility there is an option named TalkBack, which will activate a spoken feedback to what you touch, choose or activate. I hope your ability to see is not that bad!

I just checked that out.
What's with the notification about it "collecting" info? Collecting it where? And what? I didn't go any futher.....
Tomney,
I am not sure if this will actually work but if you have root you can edit your build.prop file. In that file there is a line that refers to ro.sf.lcd_density. By adjusting that number up or down you can change the dpi of the screen. Now that does not necessarily mean that all of your apps or even the Sense UI will work correctly, but it might be worth a try.
If you want to easily do this I would download the BuildProp Editor app from the market.
Haven't tried it on this phone, but at least on every sense Rom I've used for the hero changing LCD density has always messed up everything. One of the reasons I allways used aosp

as i said i did it with romtoolbox. it is the same , i raise the dpi to 260....
it makes some problems with system ui and i got some errors
i now replace the rom to miui and the dpi change doesn't Affects the system ui
dpi change can be on a rom without htc sense ui and i think even regular ice !
but..... now there is some problem with the market because Resolution Compatibility i think... there is some app i can't download .....
for now i need to come back to 240 dpi for download some apps and its Annoying
maybe if could change the Resolution to Exactly 800\480 i wouldn't get the market-app-Compatibility issue but i dont know how... maybe someone know how to do it?
my vision isn't so bad and i know the regular options aka font enlarger Etc ...
dpi change is the best choice for me .

Rom with ability to add larger type

Haven't been around in a while. My wife has the MikTouch-0.5 Rom on her phone. Looking for a ROM recomendation with options to increase font size. I understand that ice cream sandwich can?

One method is to adjust the DPI setting on the rom. Using buildprop editor, you can adjust the setting "ro.sf.lcd_density". The default for the doubleshot (at least with the CM 9.1 build) is 240. Lowering this number reduces the size that objects display, but I assume that increasing it will increase the size. I do have to warn, I have not tried to do this--I generally use 200 as my dpi setting. Changing this setting may also adjust what market applications are available, just as a warning.

Adjusting the LCD density on my phone made it to where no Market app was available for download/update. The Amazon Appstore and SlideME still worked.
there are also some free and paid apps on the market now that do this, you'll find them if you search 'font size' in Google Play. they won't affect how the market sees your device, but with the bigger font but the space where the words go remaining the same, there will be places here and there where words might get cut off at the top or bottom.
Hello,
what I'm looking for is to change only some font sizes.
I tried some Market apps and modified also the DPI value in build.prop, but these change all font sizes (small, medium and big fonts).
I come from a HTC Desire with Sense 3.5 and now I have a rooted S-off DS4GS with CM 9.1 using this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912582
Actually, text labels under homescreen icons, app drawer etc, look perfect, exacty the same as at my previous Desire, but with DS4GS some in-app texts or menu options look quite bigger now.
Are there different font sizes for small, medium and big fonts? If so, is it possible to configure each of them?
Thanks

Root and all...

I'm wondering..
I am used to root every phone I get. Not a programmer at all, so I rely on guides and tutorials.
I read somewhere it's not possible to get an access to the bootloader so I assume we won't get customized roms in the near future.
So, assuming it's true, what is the best way to manipulate the OS?
My main problem is the DISPLAY - it's just too big! I changed it to the smallest width in the developer menu, but it didn't solve everything as the height remains the same so everything is just "spaced out"...
And fonts! The options available (Theme manager, launcher) change the fonts only superficially (i.e. some apps still use the default fonts)...
Any suggestions/ insights?...

Changing Font For Every App (Root)

Hello All,
I've decided that I want to change my font throughout my whole device. I created a magisk module that basically replaced my system fonts. It appeared I only had 3 system fonts.
Roboto, OnePlus Sans, and One Sans.
I have most apps successfully changed but certain fonts are still unaffected such as unread email, browsers, and even my always on display.
I have included what I thought was every variety of these 3 fonts such as Roboto-Italic, roboto-bold - about 30 more variety if you get what I'm saying.
Does anyone have a master list in case I've missed a few? Or a easier way to achieve this?
If it matters the font I'm using is KG Feeling 22.
Thank you.
@BillGoss you helped me with the last module for my custom dpi maybe you have some suggestions?
Thank you so much.
Sorry, but I can't help you with this.

I suppose some apps, don't only use system fonts, but also have built-in ones.
Changing built-in app fonts may be difficult. I don't think changing font for all apps is possible, but i may be wrong.
In general system fonts you can replace via magisk modules (but you already know it).
