My Relay wont boot into recovery mode. Whenever I hold the Volume-Up + Home + Power, it turns on then it says on the top left corner a small blue colored message saying "RECOVERY BOOTING..." and then it goes to the "Galaxy S Relay from T-Mobile" screen and then black screen. Nothing happens, it doesnt boot into recovery but it can turn on and function well with the OTA Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update as well as boot into Download mode. I have rooted it before when It was still ICS 4.0.4 and I guess I didnt unroot it correctly.
A couple of days ago, I heard about the Jelly Bean update, which I wanted, so I used Kies to update. I connected my phone while in Download mode and Kies did its thing and my phone was unrooted when it booted up and had Jelly Bean. It worked perfectly, but it couldnt boot into recovery mode. I dont think it's a huge problem to not boot into recovery, but to me, I feel safer having it.
Is there a way to fix this using just Samsung Kies? Is there a way to flash that recovery or something using Odin? If so, where can I find it and how do I do it?
Thanks in advance!

dear OP why cant you learn the rules?
Were you able to apply the OTA update with "no recovery"? It sounds like you might have stock and your screen doesn't work in recovery, or perhaps you're recovery is just plain broken. Either way, reflashing recovery with heimdall or odin might do the trick.
This question belongs in Q and A or general, not development.
I was rooted with cwm as my recovery and tried to unroot yesterday. I uninstalled Superuser and factory reset. Apparently, I "unrooted" wrong. Then I applied the OTA via Kies. I think my recovery is just plain broken. Where can I find and download the recovery for the Relay? And how do I flash it?

This is not in the right place, the other thread is.
Don't make multiple threads in the same place of the same topic. That's called spamming

As soon as you see the blue letters for recovery booting, take your fingers off all the buttons. It will then go to recovery. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. If you continue holding the buttons, it will do what you described.

Wow. Thank you so much! Before, I would have to hold the buttons until the actual recovery menu comes up. I didn't know you just had to hold it until the blue letters came up. Once again, thank you very much!

My phone is currently NOT rooted. I attempted to root it when I first got it and almost bricked it so when I got it back to working I just left it. I've had my phone over a year and have recently over the past few months had issues with the charging port and batteries even holding a charge. Bought extended life slim batteries and a charger due to that issue. Then just yesterday I was using facebook on my phone and it randomly rebooted and wouldn't stop boot looping. Only way I've stopped it thus far is to take out the battery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have USB debugging on and allow unknown applications before trying to flash the recovery. Just a simple check that I have forgotten in the past myself lol

what he said. Also, some of the videos were a bit confusing, but the more reading I did, I found that it may be important to wait for a "Pass" green sign to show up at the end of each ODIN step, THEN wait 10-15 minutes after you get the pass before moving on to the next step. I had messed up one device once, and did these extra steps (debug mode and waiting for pass patiently) and was successful the second time around.

steve0mac,
I'm embarrassed to admit what mistake I made... but maybe it will help you and someone else. After I flashed my choice of custom recovery in ODIN and got a “Pass,” I pulled the battery/usb, etc... and then went to boot back into the custom recovery…
Here’s the silly mistake I made -- I would continue to hold in the power button along with the volume up and home button... thinking that I needed to have all of them pressed in until the custom recovery booted up. I finally figured out that you have to let go of all the buttons after you see the Samsung logo briefly appear on the screen. (Alternately, you can also just let go of the power button after the Samsung logo flashes quickly across the screen and then continue to hold down the volume up and home buttons until the custom recovery boots up--- this isn't necessary, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything).

That is a common mistake and is posted several times in the root thread. Hold too long and it skips recovery.
My daughters s3 mini has stopped working.
When you hold down the power button it gives a tiny vibration and the samsung logo comes on the screen, after that it goes black and then goes through the same process again (small vibration, s3 logo and model, then clack again)...
It seems to just loop on this over and over again...
I cannot get into the boot menu but can get into the download menu so have followed instructions and rooted it in odin... however, although that was successful) it still wont boot.
I am thinking there is an issue with the boot sequesnce?
I would love if someone has any other suggestions?
Thank you.
Seems like you got a bootloop..
Try flashing the official firmware again using ODIN.
All the firmwares van be found here : http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

Quick thing to try. When you hold down the vol down to go into download mode and it asks if you're sure you want to go into download mode, choose CANCEL instead and see if it boots. That sometimes knocks it out of the loop.

Hi..I was disappointed with performance on 4.2.2, and decided to flash back via odin to 4.1.1. I forgot to go into recovery and wipe data first, and now, after the update, it boots to the android with the symbol spinning above it, and the progress bar goes so far and stops. After a while, it goes to the samsung screen and bootloops there. I cannot access recovery, holding volume up and power just keeps going to the android with the spinning symbol again, and the progress bar. Can't see it in adb now either. Anybody have some suggestions?
Are you sure you flashed the correct tar? Try getting into down load mode and flash again. Just hold vol÷ and power button it's tricky but you can get into dl from a boot loop holding down power will make it reset and when it first boots let go of power while still holding vol+

I can get into download mode, it is a little tricky but I can. If I knew for sure I had the proper 4.1.1 or even 4.0.4, I would be better off. The file was the XAR version, which my download mode said in the bottom corner. And it allegedly was the 4.1.1 file for the tab 2 7" gt-p3113. If you or anyone has the 4.1.1 or 4.0.4 originals, I'd be very grateful. I'll worry about root later when I get it working!
Got it...had to reflash recovery, then I got it to clear data, and it booted. WHEW!
i have a galaxy note edge, but couple of days back when i unpluged my phone from the charger and tried to turn it on it would not boot up properly;even if it did it would turn itself off at different times. so i had decided to flash stock rom, thinking this could solve the problem. i downloaded stock rom from sammobile, flash it via odin, and it was successful;but when the phone rebooted with "recovery booting" on the top left of the screen then the screen went black. to turn the the device on again i have to pull the battery out and put back in after 10-15 seconds. and now whenever i try to turn the device on, it boots up with "recovery booting'' on the top left of the screen but goes black as soon as the samsung logo shows up. i don't know what's causing this problem.
if anyone out there could help me get out of this problem,i would greatly appreciate it
thanks in advanced

thanks for your reply, but i cant go to recovery. i tried holding vol up+home+power buttons together, the phone boots up and goes to note edge screen but then it turns off like before. i also tried flashing cwm and twrp, but the same problem keeps happening. but i can go to download mode
I found this. This could be the same issue i am facing:

but i need a solution for my galaxy note edge.
you have the incorrect recovery flashed, double check it and reflash. hold home+vol down+power then press volume up when prompted. use odin from pc to flash the correct recovery.

I flashed stock rom, but that didn't help; I still can't get the phone to turn on properly. The phone turns off as soon as the Samsung logo shows up, I am on stock recovery.
I flashed stock rom and it loads successfully, the phone reboots with "recovery booting" on the top left of the screen, but the screen goes black as soon as the text "galaxy note edge powered by Android" shows up.
I'm desperately trying to find a way out of this problem, so please help me.
best regards
I successfully rooted my S8+ using the Sampwned method, it was buggy and I lost the ability to use wifi-calling so I decided to revert back to stock firmware.
I downloaded stock AT&T Firmware from Samsmobile website. Went into odin flashed the firmware, it ran everything successfully however when the phone went to reboot,
it go stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S8+" Screen.
Below where it says Samsung Galaxy s8+,
there is an Icon of an open Lock, with the word "Custom" below it.
And below that it says "Powered by Android"
I am not able to do anything from this screen at all!
I can't get back into download mode, I can't boot into safe mode. I cant hard reset.
Nothing works for me at all.
What can I do to fix this?
that happened the first time i rooted. whet i did was:
1) hold the power and volume down buttons together until screen shuts off,
2) immediately after (right when the screen goes black) let go quickly and hold bixby button, volume down, and the power button.
it should boot into download mode. i had to do it a few times before it registered, if not hold power and volume up buttons until it reaches that upload scrren and you should be able to get to recovery. hope it helps. goodluck

Let the battery run out then charge and try to boot
