[Q] Tab 2 7" Questions - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, Hope you are well.
------
So I will be buying the 7" version of this tablet before the end of the week and I have a few questions regarding the development side of things, I have previously owned a large range of Android devices and rooted and used custom roms ect on them all so I am not a noob lol.
-------
My questions are as follows"
1) What is the highest frequency possible for the CPU?
2) How many cores are available for the GPU? and what is the highest frequency it can be set at?
3) Is 4.2.2 JB available in a CM?
4) The ram is stated at 1gb but I guess it would be around 770mb available, is the ext4 or ext3 ram extender available for this device?
5) How are the 3d or HD games running on this device? performance wise.
6) Is it worth $198 Au?
-------------------------------------
How does this tab compare to similar ones on the market?
-------------
Thank you all r3NdRag

@r3NdRaG
I'm guessing your from Australia, like myself.
I've gone through alot of tablets.
For the retail price of $200 at jb Hifi, **** Smith, officeworks, big w (all are advertising it at that price)
etc it's a good price.
Online - eBay is obviously going to be cheaper obviously.
The tablet is great I myself this week got the Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 16gb WiFi ver only for $300 - any of the stores above.
And bought a 64gb card for $50 on eBay.
I bought cause I need more screen estate and will be docking in the car alot.
Any questions ask.

Thank you all for such a quick response.
Mrkhigh I know I could have searched but I need 10 posts before I can use development forum.
I think I will buy this tablet it seems like a good deal.
I'm hoping it will be able to handle what I throw at it lol.

Recommend me a tablet

Hey XDA. Im currently sending this off of a crappy ipod touch 4g. So sorry if there is any gramatical or spelling errors. Im going to be selling this on ebay to help fund my tablet because it looks like they can sell for $150 to $200 in the condition mine is currently in.
But anyway, Im looking for a tablet, I dont care about size. Im looking to get one for $200 to $300 new. I was hoping it could have at least a gig of ram, a dual core (if possible), be able to play games well, have a decent sized development community on gere, rootable, and a decent battery life because I will be taking this to school.
I know Im asking for a lot, but rooting and installing roms looks like a lot of fun, and Im not able to buy an android phone because with us cellular they require a data plan, which my dad doesnt need, so he doesnt want to pay for it (which is fair).
Ive also heard of the nvidia tegra 2, just wondering is that a cpu, apu or gpu? I currently own a gtx 460 in my computer, so if I had a nvidia product like that in my tablet, that would be cool.
Alright sorry that ive asked a lot, if this has alreadt been answered please feel free to close this thread and link me to the thread where that answer is.
Thanks!

I'll suggest to you the HP TouchPad. 9.7" 1024x768 Samsung IPS panel, dual core processor capable of running at 1.8ghz, Adreno 220 GPU...it is one of the fastest tabs you can buy.

Good luck finding a TouchPad...
Most of the lesser expensive tablets (I. E. In your price range) are either underpowered or do not have custom ROMs.
If you don't mind a slightly sluggish experience but it runs games well you could get a nook color which has cyanogenmod support. If you want speed and decent power, kindle fire is a good bet. If you want a tablet that's very powerful and has root (you can customise apps and launchers, etc.) nook tablet. Nook tablet does not yet have custom ROMs but it has root and is the cheapest tablet in its class.

Now they can be readily found on eBay, but they are going up in price; the price for one of the 16GB models has risen about $40 in the past week. Upon using the device, three of my friends have bought one for themselves, I really can't recommend the device enough.
I'd suggest looking at the Nook Color or Nook Tablet. They sell new for $200 & $250 respectively. They are a little underpowered compared to some of the newer stuff like a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or something like that, but you can't beat that price. You'd be lacking some things, like a camera and microphone.
CM7 is currently available for the Nook Color and works amazingly well. I'm sure it'll be made available for the Tablet soon enough if it doesn't yet exist. Depending on what you mean to do with the tablet one of these may be more than enough.

Nook Color runs stably at 1.3 ghz under cyanogenmod 7. It feels a little pokey to me and I have one.
Nook tablet is dual core 1.1 OMAP 4 with a gig of ram. It is hardly underpowered as I have one of these as well.
The biggest issue with both nooks is android <3. 0 so it does not have the interface GPU accelerated. Any tablets above gingerbread will seem faster even if they have lower specs. Most of the time the GPU does nothing and the cpu has to process the interface, touch, plus everything else. Touch and interface are offloaded to GPU on honeycomb and higher.
If cyanogenmod 9 come to the Blaze it will be a better tablet than most Honeycomb because it has a faster and better cpu with more ram. Most honeycomb tablets only have 512mb.

I didn't really want the nook color to be honest, and I was thinking about getting the nook tablet, but the only problem is that you can't really install roms on it because of the bootloader being locked or something? (This is what I've heard, I'm an Android noob).
If the boot loader is really locked on newest Nook Tablets, that would eliminate it from my list of possible candidates. Is this true? I was leaning toward the NT because of the card slot, and the possibility of booting from an sd card. (I read that the lock was imposed during an automatic upgrade)

I'd like to get the HTC flyer. Had a chance to play with one in Best Buy the other day. it was wonderful for me. I read today that they dropped the price in the UK, hope so here in the USA..
I think Acer Iconia a501 is a good choice ... if you want to spend a little more buy a HTC.

Good ~$200 tablet?

I'm an iOS/Java developer and I want to learn Android dev and port my apps to Android devices. I know there's simulators, but I'm a firm believer in "dogfooding," and want to "live" with the software running on real hardware for a few days, so, I'm looking at the ~$200 Android options... I can read the spec sheets and shoot-out comparisons as well as the next guy, but I was wondering what's the groupthink here?
What I'm considering (so far; open to other suggestions):
IdeaPad A1
Kindle Fire (rooted)
Waiting for the rumored Google ICS tablet
Thoughts? Capacitive touch screen (ideally with at least 1024x600 resolution), decent responsiveness (adequate CPU and RAM), reliable WiFi connectivity are must-haves. Anything from 2.3 on would be interesting.
I have a PRS-T1 I rooted and am happily running a mix of eReader apps on, and I had a Nook Color running CM7.1 but it was always flaky and inadvertently (unrelatedly) became a chew toy for my newest rescue dog...
Thanks!
Try the Asus MeMO Pad, it has high-end specs for $250.
http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/asus-eee-pad-memo/4505-3126_7-35117824.html
However, I would suggest going for the Asus Padfone, as it represents the first step towards a future with modular computing, a paradigm shift on the level of having smartphones in the first place.

New phone buying advice please !!

I am going to spend some money on buying a CDMA android device pretty soon for my father. Its a unlocked CDMA phone running android 2.3. Model (MTS mtag 352) which is actually a zte device. The deal is I am able to buy a new piece for only $80.
Details:
http://www.mtsindia.in/smartphones/MTag352/index.html
Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H3-JMfxod4
The device won't be used for multimedia much at all. Very rarely for browsing. Mainly for phone and contact management. No audio storage no video storage either.
My only worry is the device sports only 256 mb ram and 140 mob internal memory. So do you think for the usage I described , the mentioned specs are good enough ? Mainly memory ?
Apologies if the post is not in the right section, but I couldnt find the device having a specific forum section so am posting this in q and a here.

buy to him a jiayu g3, 2750mha battery, 1g ram, dual core cortex a7, 4,5 screen, sd support, gorila glass, 2 sim capacity, and more! and isnt expensive, it can be chinese, but it is even better that this. i love it, or a jiayu g2, it is nearly the same, but a bit smaller with less things
if you can pay more than 80, or a jiayu g1 even cheaper, there are very cheap phones in internet

The thing is even though I want to buy better I am avoiding purposely. In India currently there are absolutely no good android CDMA handsets. While I did think of getting from us via eBay, it won't help much. He uses his phone for nothing other than talking. So In my view a android device with gtalk is better than non his android CDMA device.
So what's your view regarding that device. I am mainly worried about running out of memory with only sms and contacts.

I ordered this exact tablet last week and it just came in the mail. It's an impressive piece of hardware with very little bloatware out of the box, but Jellybean takes up a lot of RAM by default (1/2 is being used just by the thing being turned on). I'd like to figure out the best method to root it at least, though my ideal goal is to put a ROM of an earlier release of the Android OS on it, I'm quite partial to Gingerbread to be entirely honest since it tends to use a lot less RAM and CPU power to run on similar hardware I've used before.
EDIT: Hopefully someone with actual experience can look into rooting this tablet, I tried using some typical "generic Android tablet root" techniques and nothing is working.
How to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE
Hi. Could anyone tell me how to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE ? I just bought it for several days. There is something wrong for restart after I installed some Apps from Google play and play some of them to change the default settings. Better provide me with ROM of this tablet, My email is [email protected]. Thanks! Jeff
I got kinda suckered into buying one of you too. They were so cheap so I figured why not. My main complaints are that the operating system seems to be the part that's making it so laggy. When it's actually performing a task it works fairly well. I use NHL GameCenter and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the streaming for work. SwiftKey keyboard is really laggy and unusable entirely. Also, Chrome seems to be impossible to use because of the lag. Other than that though everything else seems to run fairly smooth so I think it's more of an operating system issue than power issue. The battery is good it sounds good the screen is OK touch screen works...but if I can't use chrome or watch NHL games,I might have to return it.

Tablet seems to perform fairly well in games but is laggy at times on web surfing. As the previous poster noted Chrome is almost unusable it is so laggy. Video apps seem to perform well after they load up. If an item is being downloaded in the background tablet is very laggy. I tend to agree with the previous poster that the main problem is the operating system. Maybe an update to 4.3 will come soon and improve performance.

Yeah I noticed the background downloading slowing it to a crawl. I think that's an issue with the kernel or memory read speed. There are some tweaks that we will be able to do once a working recovery is available that will fix that. Network speed too. I speed checked it and im getting 35mbs so the issue isn't the WiFi unit itself, its just software. I'm hoping somebody will make a nice custom ROM for us

nothing out yet...it's just the os on it that sucks...just upgraded to 4.2.2 and it even slower...once theres a rom it will eliminate all the bloat in it...just hold on to it and wait...you will not get a quad core for that price...
Its a really terrible a5 based quad-core.. A dual core a9 would run circles around it. There isn't really any bloat in the rom, they didn't do much of anything to it. No custom rom is gonna upgrade the cpu or craptastic generic gpu. If you can return it, go do that. If you can't, I'm sorry, but it's never going to respond like an a9. It sucks that actions is full of lies, and Hannspree bought them, and retailers don't care what they are selling you.

So I just found out that the UK variant is running KitKat. If some can find anyone in the UK that can pull the rom for it, we can get this running much better than it currently is.
Can anyone point me into a direction where I could find the operation system and how to install

Hey guys, I need some on trying to find an android phone for about $200. I've already looked up the Moto G and unfortunately it didn't meet up to my total expectations. I am looking for a device that has:
A 4.5 - 5 inch Display with about 720p HD Capabilities and maybe around 250 - 330 PPI.
Dual or Quad Core Processor (Starting from 1.2Ghz and please try not to post any mediatek cpus)
512 - 2GB of Ram
Good internal storage for some apps.
Android OS 4.1.2 - 4.4 KitKat
Good battery life (something that would last for about a day or so)
Stable.. Smooth (No Chinese Generics)
At least some support from the dev. community.
Any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

well since the moto g is out of the picture, i think one of the many BLU phones would be good for you, i have heard good and bad reports about the battery, most of them have 1g or higher gigs of RAM, its seems that lots of their devices (even with small screens) have a great cpu clocked at 1.5ghz dual core or bigger, i think most of their phones are 4.2 and up. lots of choices with 4.5" and up. as for development support, i think they only have root.

Thanks for the recommendation. Though, I have heard of the blu phone series (life, studio, etc.) but there are many negative reviews on them and the ones that are mostly positive are supposedly framed. So, from what I heard was that some of these BLU labelled phones come DOA, other complaints relate to dead pixels, insta-brick (after a week or so of moderate to heavy usage), unresponsive touchscreens, and of course as you stated, battery life.

At least some support from the dev. community.
Any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

I was stuck in the exactly same position. But I also needed a removable battery and an external micro SD card slot. So the moto g was not a good candidate. I ended up going with the optimus f7. It has specs similar to gs3. You should check out the reviews and see what you think.

Ahhh yes, I forgot to include external microsd expansion capabilities. Oh yes and thanks, the F7 may not have good dev support but I guess root access is all I need. All I'm really planning to install is Su, viperfx, and some closed modules. Also btw is it possible to skip the boost mobile activation process?

Enjoy! I to am using an f7. There is an awesome rom that I'm using that I highly recommend. If you got any questions ask me or check out the androidforums f7 threads. Xda doesn't have much f7 support but androidforums has a bunch!
