[Q] Jelly Bean 4.1.2 upgrade; wifi tether is gone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello there,
Can anybody restore my lost wifi tethering function? I have a Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket on the ATT network (i727). I recently upgraded through Kies to the new Jelly Bean 4.1.2 from GB and lost my root. I rerooted with twrp 2.5.0.0. in odin and all went well. I then went to check on my wifi tether for root users app and it was a no-go. I have spent considerable time researching and have not been able to find any solutions. I updated the app to the most current, tried a hundred different configs in the settings. I have tried the Treve Mod for this app and have been able to create a connection, but no data flows. I would be very grateful if someone could enlighten me as to how achieve a working system. Sincere thanks.

Pay for it or don't use stock suckwiz.

I'm having the same issue. I upgraded to JB Deodexed, the phone is rooted, and I have Wifi Tether v3.3-pre2 installed. I've tried some of the different profiles, S2, SL, S3, Auto, and some launch with errors, while the ones that don't launch with errors turn on my WiFi and my phone connects to my router. I've been able to find some threads where people are getting it to work on the S3, but has anyone had luck with a Skyrocket?

I am having the same problem. I have tried a number of custom 4.2.2 roms, and almost 4 different versions of Wifi tether from 3.1 to v3.3 using every possible combination of settings to get wifi to work. So far, i am still out of luck. Has anyone been able to get a stable custom rom and wifi tethering to work on their phone yet for a rooted phone? How?

Ya no luck with me either

I thought I had it working with CM10.1. I think I just used Tethering from the Settings, not needing to install any add on app to accomplish WiFi Tethering. That being said, CM10.1 battery life and other little quirks and bugs sent me right back to the Stock Rom.

I went from Stock ICS (rooted, and WiFi Tether App worked) to CM10.1 (I believe I used CM's WiFi hotspot settings, or possibly WiFi Tether). I then went to the Deodexed Stock JB and rooted, and I can't get any WiFi tethering to work. I'm tempted to go back to Stock ICS.

I just installed Easy WiFi Tethering by BigWhitePlanet and it appears to be working. However, it is installing a bunch of junk, like Candy Crush Saga and is full of other ads and programs that seem to be installing themselves at their own will.

I was able to get it to work using the stock JB 4.1.2 upgrade. I used Wifi Tethering for Root. I too tried every combination and was so frustrated. I found the TrevE Mod version of Wifi Tethering and it works great!! The "trick" is to COMPLETELY delete any previous versions of Wifi Tether for Root before installing the TrevE Mod version. I'm to new to this forum and can't post any links here but just search this forum for TrevE Mod and you will find any entire thread complete with instructions. Works awesome!! Don't forget to give him some thanks and a little dough doesn't hurt either. Good luck

After changing from a stock rom I can not get wifi tether to work
Hello, I need some help please. I have just installed the slim bean rom on my samsung s3 from sprint. I have used wifi tether for years prior to this i only had one problem prior to when i changed phones. But i managed to get it working. But now i can not get it to work. I have went to the newest version to the 2.1, I can get to where it loads with no errors but it does not broadcast, I have tried installing different scripts, to see if it will work in the background but still no luck. I have read all the android websites with issues and i have tried every setting that has worked for others and i still can not get it to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated:confused

Do we have pure stock VZ LEAKED VRBLI5?

Hi, I just wonder if we have pure stock LEAKED VRBLI5 so I can flash it to my pure stock G3 through Odin? My device is pure factory (no root, locked). Thanks.
I believe there is one actually posted in the General section.... I just read through it a few minutes ago... Here is what I think you are looking for... I tried to update sooner but had some HS about having to wait 5 minutes between posts.... This is NOT ROOTABLE and will LOCK bootloader... I know you are stock and this won't apply to you but want to say it for others.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968914
Also can a MOD look at my account and Verify me so I can better help others without having to wait and jump through hoops Please... Thank You!

I'm in the same boat. If foxfi and/or the widget bypass still works for tethering I may install it.

I'm interested too. I don't want to install a Custom ROM quite yet. I tried once and my device quit booting and got stuck on a message from Verizon telling me that the phone wasn't stock and I need to take it to a service store. I ended up just using Odin to flash back to stock.
I want to root this version from stock.

Only option for tether is widget bypass. No 3rd party tether apps currently work.

That message is because you didn't unlock the boot loader.
Ya thanks prdog, I saw in the threads of the JB roms they generally have the tethering opened up. Just what I needed

I think I relocked the bootloader and then got that Verizon message after the next reboot. Once you've unlocked and tweaked things, don't relock.
Hey Dog ...what do you mean by using a tether widget?
On stock roms you can use a toggle widget to activate the hot spot.

[Q] Going from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 worth it?

I have used the German rom to upgrade to 4.1.1 thanks to the wonderful step by step instructions here. Are the improvements worth going to 4.1.2? So far the only program I have found not working is Nook reader.
Thanks,
I'm debating the same thing. I'm doing it to get rid of keyboard lag and allow you to switch to multi view within apps. Hopefully I don't brick my device. People are keeping quiet about it for some reason.

I've been using redemption rom on the 8013. I will never go back! You can use the multiwindow mod to make almost anything multiwindow, snote is almost usable in 4.1.2, and the rom comes with inverted gapps
Well I just took the jump to 4.1.2. I think it's worth it for sure. The only special thing you have to do is keep it in airplane mode, but its nbd. I have an 8013.

its just reversed colors. black background with light writing. easy on the eyes and battery
Redemption ROM has options when you install to disable carrier networks so you dont have to worry about airplane mode too
Updated to 4.1.2 and got better support for the S-Pen.
hey, i'm runnung redemption rom v.3.1 on my n8010, i selected all inverted ggaps in aroma installer but only the gmail app is inverted, on first load play store was inverted but after reboot it is just normal play store. i have tried re-installing rom twice (once to disable phone features) but it's still only gmail. anyone got any idea's how to fix this?

Airplane mode?
Yeah. Airplane mode. Like on a phone. Basically that just keeps the phone from searching for a wireless signal. You can still have wifi on working though! If anyone else has any questions let me know.

I upgraded to 4.1.2. Just like you said after the update I put it in Airplane mode which turned the WIFI off. I turned the WIFI back on and good to go. I was able to install the Nook reader in 4.1.2 but not in 4.1.1.

It was easy actually. I noticed the most improvement going from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. There are some differences in 4.2. I am enjoying it. Thanks to all the guys here to give great instructions and take the time to test.
I just did the German 4.1.1 JB update last week. My Note is not rooted. I'd like to do the multiwindow thing with my apps, but see that I need 4.1.2. Is there an updated file I can use, or do I need to use a custom ROM to get this? I don't really want to do that.

You do not need to root, my 8013 is not rooted. I used Odin to update following the instructions found on this site.
Cool, thanks! Which instructions? The same ones I used to update to 4.1.1? If so, what steps need to be repeated with this file? If you're talking about different instructions, I can't find them. I just keep finding threads with people saying they updated to 4.1.2, but nothing about how they did it.
Yes, you do it the exact same way that you flashed 4.1.1

Yes how to upgrade to 4.1.1 and not root. I believe the instructions are in this General Q&A section. Followed them exactly. Read the preceding posts about the airplane mode.
Thanks, folks! I'll give it a try. Looking forward to getting more apps in multiwindow, especially Dolphin.
Can anybody give opinions in more differences between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2? Is it worth my time to backup and flash this from 4.1.1? What would the benefits be? I'm on a P3113 WiFi US version and have already spent a good amount of time customizing my stock ROM by backing up and removing bloat.

[Q] WiFi hotspot off and on constantly when mobile data on.

Hi there!
The SW version of my PhotonQ is 77.8.10 and I'm using WCDMA(UMTS)network,
When I tried the hotspot function yesterday, I find that as long as the Data usage/Mobile data switch is on,the hotspot will constantly turn off and on,and everything's fine when the switch is off (connect with my ipod, retrive IP address and so on)
Dose any one has any idea about this problem?
What ROM?
Generally, if you post your question in the ROM thread... people don't have to wonder

Ah, you mean Android version is 4.0.4 mate.
Kernel version is probably 3.0.31 or smth, but that's neither here nor there.
Regardless, I don't think the built-in hotspot works (on stock).
It also sounds like you are using one of the SIM hacked devices. Why not install CM10/.1? Wifi hotspot should work fine there (it does for me on my less-hacked CDMA device....)

It's not mine, and if you are using a SIM modded device use Skrilax's!!
You know, I'm willing to bet that this is related to the issue in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885600. Just on a whim, I tried turning off mobile data before turning on my wifi, and sure enough, my wifi connectivity problem went away.
That being said, and the fact that I have two q's, one which works perfectly, and one which exhibits this odd behavior, I think I'm heading towards a hardware problem, and a warranty exchange. But, if your new rom seems to fix the problem, then please share that here. It would indicate that there may be a software solution to the problem.

[Q] Just installed ROM, no APN though?

Hi, I just recently installed Slim Bean 4.3 (stable) on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 as well as flashing gapps, however, I don't get mobile data. I was told to check my APNs and there weren't any. Is there a specific one I should be using? I've attempted several from the internet and/or here, however, I'm still unsuccessful.
I would greatly appreciate a working APN or other solution that I haven't noticed, because I'd like to use Slim Bean. I'll end up flashing back to 4.0.4 stock and trying another ROM if I can't find something good.
What do you have selected in Mobile Networks/Mobile Networks Settings/CDMA Subscription? RUIM/SIM should be selected. Also, do you have your IMEI and proper phone number in About Phone?

I tried this (as well as flashing CyanogenMod) but still to no luck on both ROMs. I'm about to flash to 4.0.4 and I'll probably keep it there at the moment. I noticed that I was using TWRP 2.5 which isn't the latest version so I'm gonna try to figure out how to flash 2.6 as well.
Alright, so, I flashed 4.0.4 (through ODIN) and I don't have data through there either.
Hm.
Time to go deeper.
Be careful what you do, kids, you might lose your data connection and be incredibly annoyed!
To be fair, I was kind of just messing around and not paying strict attention, so this isn't incredibly surprising to me. If it comes down to it I'm going to get my phone reset with Verizon.

I would try flashing to 4.1.2 mf1. I lost data on 4.2.2 twice and one of those times I flashed back to 4.0.4 and didn't have data. Flashing to the latest 4.1.2 fixed everything.

4.3 TW tethering app?

Hello guys,
I updated to 4.3 TW, and rooted via the Saferoot method.
I was on 4.1.2 TW stock rooted, and was using the WiFi Tether - TreveE mod. On 4.3 however, my tether does not show as an available connection.
Just wondering if any of the members who have updated to 4.3 TW have found a working tether app.
Thank you.
I'm running a 4.4.2 beanstalk and the WiFi Tether- TrevE mod doesn't work either. Fails to start AP. Any fixes?

Currently just this WIFI TETHER ROUTER in the Playstore. If you wait, others may start to update to 4.3 like Foxfi etc...
I'm attempting to update to 4.3, but have had trouble doing so. I have done very little research into the new update (been pretty hectic lately), so it may be a blessing that I haven't yet.
Is there no way to tether as of right now on 4.3?

Update to 4.3, then root with saferoot, then install wifi tether router. The stock 4.3 is smooth, reliable and bug free...I'm glad I did it to my wife phone. For me I like to play around so...here I'm.
Thanks!

Foxfi = best purchase ever. Working on 4.3 and doesn't need root. The only problem I have is it requires pdanet on the pc for usb tethering.
