Guys,
I'm stuck in the very first step in rooting my Explorer..
I installed HTC Sync(but it does not recognise my device) , Downloaded SDK tools but stuck in the step where we have to type
fastboot oem get_identifier_token in cmd..
After this step it just shows
< waiting for device >
and does not move further..
Tried installing various driver packages found in other posts, installing htc sync in compatibily mode but of no use..
P.S - I use WINDOWS 8 O.S in my PC
Please do not post the same question several times

what does it say when you type in cmd:

I've installed htc sync to have the drivers, then uninstalled htc sync program and left the drivers.
If i connect the phone i put in "charge only" and then typing adb devices it has my device there.
I didn't understood this part: "and have you checked device manager for (when phone is connected) android adb device", where to check device manager?

you try after updating htc sync. if you fail again, you can contact service center and ask them sync isn't functioning or usb isn't working like that...:highfive: if your bootloader is still locked you can claim warranty :good:

Start the phone in fadtbootmode. Then when you connect the phone to PC with USB, it should show on your phone at the top "FASTBOOT USB", If it does not show USB means you PC cant find the drivers, in that case locate the device in device manager and update drivers, you'll find the drivers located inside the folder where you installed HTC sync, the drivers folder is called HTC Driver, if you installed it on C: drive, then this should be the path to the driver "C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver".
Anyways, just look for "Fastboot - USB" on that white screen, when in fastboot mode and connected to PC via USB.
And btw what is your bootloader version?

Oh lol, actually I was recently rooting sister's set and this is the problem I faced, windows 7 wasn't picking up the drivers automatically on her lappy, so had to install them manually. While on my lappy, windows found them automatically even updated from online or something without a hitch.

HTC Sync doesn't work with Windows 8. At least it didn't with mine.
Install EasyTether USB drivers. You can then disable the main EasyTether application if you don't want tethering.

actually my problem is solved. apparently FASTBOOT requires you to connect your USB to USB 2.0 port It is best supported.
connecting to USB 2.0 solved the problem for me.
Other thing that I come across is that 1. check USB debugging 2. Uncheck the FastBoot option in settings> Power.
also some said that try to uninstall and re install drivers
usb didnt recognized,i try all the driver softwares, usb debugging

My Windows 7 PC is not able to detect the drivers for Xperia L. I have already installed the PC Companion and also installed the Flash Tool drivers, ADB Universal Drivers. Still it doesn't detect the device.

Try a different approach. Go into your device manager on your PC. You can go into device manager by going into properties of MY COMPUTER or Control Panel\System and Security\System
When your device is connected, do you see an exclamation mark in devices. Reinstall it by finding drivers manaually.
IF this all fails, just delete the device and refresh it.
Another very useful trick is to delete the unknow device (xperia L) and restart your Xperia L. Then search for device changes. it will be detected automatically.
Is your MTP ticked in Xperia / Connection/ USB connection on your phone ?

the whole of this was my phone was softbricked. I wanted to get into recovery so I could use ADB to try to fix it. When it's softbricked, ADB won't start up, therefore I could use ADB.
Trust me, I know how to use ADB, I just wanted to know if there was a key combination to get our phones into recovery mode with ADB because ADB wouldn't work because my phone was softbricked. It had nothing to do with me not knowing how to use ADB or how to set it up, it had to do with my phone would brick it self before ADB started, so therefore I couldn't send any ADB commands.

DRivers for Xperia L
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46681107#post46681107
Problem solved. It was tricky, though.
Having PC companion installed wincrap didn't make me choose other drivers.
So I disabled the signature verification for drivers -> rebooted -> connected Phone while pressing the vol UP -> opened device manager -> select s1boot fastboot (which had a warning icon) -> selected driver manually (the .inf file we replaced following the first steps.
then i just used cmd as in the guide.
et voilà, bootloader unlocked.
I hope this is helpful to those who faced my same problem.
