[Q] No Rear Camera - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey All,
Replaced my cracked screen this weekend. Everything seems to be back to functional now, EXCEPT
- the ambient light sensor isn't working
- the rear camera isn't working
If I open the camera app (any camera app) it will show the front camera so I see my stupid face, but if I push the "use the other camera" button nothing happens.
Entirely possible I messed something up in the reassembly, BUT before I go and take the thing apart again I was wondering if there was anything I could try from a software / firmware perspective first.

Well, I am not the biggest hardware person, but I believe you can run the RUU and detect if it is a hardware issue. Again, I am not sure, you may want to double check.

Bump, anyone else have any suggestions for ways to "wake up" my camera?

FYI for anyone else who stumbled upon this thread - the problem was a disconnected ribbon cable that I missed. Between the motherboard and the plate that the camera sits on it a TINY ribbon cable (lengthwise) that has to plug into the back of the motherboard. It's nearly impossible to get even the tiniest tool in between the motherboard and the front assembly while this cable can reach its connector. So if you end up in this situation, have a lot of patience. I don't know if there's a way to get the screen off WITHOUT disconnecting this cable, but I certainly couldn't find one.

[Q] help me please, my rear camera disabled!

Oke lets go the point, i replace my volume flex yesterday, i dunno what did i do, but now i cant use my rear camera(main camera), im not sure if i touch the camera module or not. But when i open the camera, it automatically open the front facing camera, no option to change it to rear camera.
All 3rd camera apps didnt work too.
I installed hardware detector apps from store, it showing my main camera is the front facing camera, the the secondary camera is 'disabled'
Can someone here make sure that my problem is about the camera hardware?
I tried clear wipe cache dll, reflash rom, remove sd card, but no luck.
Any answer will be great
sorry before..i don't know anything detailed about phone hardware...
but just my guess.. i think maybe there's something about the cable or everything the name is (i don't know what's that)..that are not correctly attached or something that are already unattached from the camera module while you try to open it or changed it that volume flex by accidentally..and you've already forget or missed that things while you assemble it that phone again..
did you already try to dissemble it again to check everything in detailed...that all is already correctly in the right position..?

[Q] Front and Back Camera and LED stopped working after screen replacment

Hi, I'm having an issue with my Nexus 5 which is that the front and back cameras as well as the back LED no longer seem to function. This happens in the stock Camera app where as soon as it is opened, an 'Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.' message comes up and blackness is shown. This also happens in third party apps such as Snapchat where the message 'Snapchat was unable to open the camera. You may need to restart your device ' comes up. In addition, upon attempting to use Tesla LED, the back facing LED does not turn on.
The likely cause that I can see is the recent screen replacement that took place. I ordered this[1] online which came with a new set of cameras as well as a new screen. I took the motherboard, battery and rear case from the old phone and attached them to the new set of cameras and the new screen.
After performing the replacement, everything else worked except the cameras and the LED.
Upon seeing the issue, I tried swapping out the new rear facing camera (that came with the screen replacement) for the old rear facing camera that was in the old phone (the camera still worked before the replacement). After swapping the rear camera the issue was unchanged.
I have tried the following in terms of software fixes:
-Other camera applications - they crash or are black
-Clear cache and application data for the stock camera app - no effect
-Change to ART - no effect
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice that you can offer.
I'd reinstall stock rom and gapps, if they still don't work you know it's a hardware problem for sure. Then troubleshoot from there.

I factory reset the device and tried the default Google Apps, still having the same issues.
Any suggestions for hardware trouble shooting?

As for hardware trouble shooting, being that you know the original cameras worked, all you can do is check the connections . I'd unplug them and plug them back in.
I'd also try flashing the 4.4 stock camera zip and see if that works.

I tried reattaching all of the physical connections and that did not seem to make a difference.
In regards to flashing the 4.4 stock camera zip, would you be able to give me a little guidance as to how that process would occur?
Thanks so much for your help so far.
You'd need to root, install a custom recovery (twrp), use titanium backup to uninstall camera. Then boot into your custom recovery and install the camera zip.

Sorry for such a long response time.
I updated the phone to 4.4.3.
Interestingly the back facing camera appears to have started working. The default camera application still fails to open, but when I use another application (Snapchat) and have it set to try the backfacing camera first, everything seems to work ok. However, when I switch to front facing the application says that it can't find the camera.
In addition, the back facing LED has begun to work again as well.
Previously, I had switched out the new rear facing camera (that came with the casing) for the old rear facing camera hoping that it might changes things. I recognize retrospectively that my method of testing was flawed as it seems as though regardless of whether one of the cameras is/was working the application would not open.
Hoping that the replacement of the rear facing had caused it to start working, I swapped out the new front facing camera for the old one. Upon testing, the issues with the front facing camera seem to persist.
At this point I'm not sure how to proceed. The lack of functionality of both front facing cameras (the old and the new) would seem to suggest an issue with the connector on the motherboard if the problem were hardware based. I'm not sure, though, if the problem could somehow be in software.
One software phenomenon that I observed is that as soon as I try to use the front facing camera, the back facing camera stops working again requiring the application to be reset. This occurrence has led me to question the causation between the update and the new functionality. It is possible that in my testing of the device before the update, I had simply been opening the front facing camera and upon seeing it fail, and trying the back facing camera and seeing it fail (because I had tried the front facing camera), that I assumed it was not working.
If you have any recommendations on how to proceed I would greatly appreciate hearing them. If not then thanks for all your help.

Any updates mate? Did you made it work ?
I opened my nexus to fix the gps. Everything worked fine, until suddenly gps stopped working. I opened again, remove the fix, still the same.
Then my camera stopped working as well. "Cannot connect to camera" or something like this it gave me.
I've updated from 4.4.4 kitkat to android L latest build, and gps works but the camera app crashes, as well as any other camera on market ( either black screen or crash ).
Any help for me ?
Any answer it will be appreciated.
Same exact issue with front facing camera after glass replacement. Anybody find a fix yet?

Unfortunately, Camera has stopped. [M Preview]

First off, I have not seen this anywhere else, but appologies if i've missed it!
Even on a completely clean install of the M preview, upon opening camera, and once passed the 'OK, GOT IT' button, camera closes. Every time. Regardless of what i do, clear cache, update, remove updates etc. Happens on Preview 1 and 2. Doesnt happen in 5.0/5.1/5.1.1. I thought it might be the fact the camera was damaged being reported in some new way to the system, forcing the closure (i ripped the cable slightly when repairing another part (i know, dumb, but i slipped)), but have since replaced with a new part and still have issues.
Has anyone else had this, and fixed it? Thanks!
Hello, I have the same problem. Unfortunately, my problem persists on older versions of android. My problem seems to be the front facing camera, because with a third party app, the rear camera works. I replaced the front camera, but it still does not work in any app, and the Camera app still does not start. Tried removing the front camera - app again stops working.
That is the same for me. Snapchat will use the rear camera fine, but doesn't register the phone as even having a front camera

Same here! I can take photos through Tinder, and download them to my phone (although sometimes the Tinder app will crash too). But whenever I open the Camera app I get the "Unfortunately, Camera has stopped" message. I've tried multiple reboots, closing the app, not closing the app, resetting the cache, etc. Nothing works.
I believe this all started when I tried to take a "selfie" one time (I guess that's God's way of telling me never to do that again). When I switched to the front camera all hell broke loose. Now I'm guessing it's "stuck" on the front camera and I can't run the app even to switch it back!

Tof sensor dead?!

Hi everyone,
Has anyone experienced an issue with the camera?
Since my phone overheated, about 3 weeks ago, staying under the sun, I can't use the rear camera... I had the overheating warning pop up.
Basically if I launch the app, the app freezes, I can't switch to different rear cameras (wide, regular, telezoom) nor switch to front camera.
Sometimes I get a pop-up saying "can not connect to camera".
I can launch selfie mode directly from the app shortcut (by long pressing), other apps can't access the rear camera either and clearing cache of the camera app didn't change anything.
So, I had to change the back cover of the phone that had been previously cracked (nothing to do the camera not working), and I benefited the phone opened to try with disconnected cameras:
Telephoto works well, super wide as well.
Funny thing: the phone can use only the super wide camera to do both x0,6 and x1 (you don't notice that the main camera is not used).
Main camera worked.
2nd funny thing : portrait mode works perfectly without the Tof sensor being plugged in...
I plugged back the Tof sensor, it was still working, but stopped after restarting the phone. I removed it, cleared cache, it started to work again. I plugged the Tof sensor back in, it was working... I glued back the cover, and had the camera stop working within few minutes...
Long story short, has anyone experienced an issue with the Tof sensor? Which doesn't seem to be very useful...
I guess I'll try to remove it completely and check if the camera becomes stable.
I didn't find this part being sold :/
Regards, Charles

Huge Camera problem

Hi everybody,i have search everywhere but did'nt seen similar case anywhere,my problem began after a litlle fall after this my camera started to behave strangely, like a reversal the motor brings out the front camera when I activate the rear camera and vice versa so the selfie camera works but only inside as you can see on the video, I already tried a factory reset.I also removed the back cover to check all the camera cables and nothing has changed except that when I disconnect the one from the front camera, the interface of the rear camera becomes "normal"
Thanks
summary of the situation the pop-up camera comes out when it should be in and stays in when it should be out

I don't know about the Poco F2 Pro but if it's something like the Huawei Y9 Prime with its pop-up camera it has a small magnet that "indicates" to the system when the front one is up or down and that makes the small motor that moves it activates the front camera, now the cell phone fell with the camera outside and the module was hit, it is possible that the state of the camera (down/up) has been "uncalibrated", in any case you would have to take it to a center specialized to be disassembled and checked because it seems to be a physical failure rather than a software one
thank you, indeed it is very interesting I had not thought of it did you see the video that I posted it is for this reason that I thought of a software defect but your proposal holds the road.
