Hello, I know I am an idiot for this.
But I tried to create my own rom, following a guide carefully.
It was a miui rom and I skipped only one thing, because I couldn't find it. I don't think it was anything important that could have caused my dilemma.
To get to the point.
I have the Nexus S 4G
Using TWRP Recovery
I made a backup of my stock rom
I flashed the Rom(I created) and it failed to flash.
So I tried to restore my Stock rom. Once it said it completed.
I tried to reboot and it just brought me back to bootloader screen.
I'm panicking now.
So I use my root toolkit to flash CWM recovery and tried to install a
new rom on my phone, but it's not working
when I try to boot up into a new rom, all I get is a black screen.
HELP PLEASE. ((
edit: when I went back into TWRP to check the log, it said "can't mount SD"
and I went to MOUNT and Sdcard was mounted..

Hi guys I've been looking around and I'm a total noob at all this, but I went ahead and tried to root my Nexus S anyway.
Here's the site I used,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878446
I don't really know what happened, but I have the little unlocked logo under google, but that google screen is all I can get. I can start it in fastboot mode, and when I click recovery it brings me to clockwork recovery page. I kinda just tried a bunch of weird things but everytime I try anything it keeps getting stuck at the google screen over and over again.
I'm really clueless.. If anyone could help me please give me your advice!
If it helps, I have clockwork version 3.0.0.0
you have to perform a nandroid restore or flash a ROM.
might as well update your recovery too.. wouldn't hurt
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
rename img to recovery.img
boot into bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
go into recovery
when you finish downloading the rom/nandriod, go into mounts and storage and mount usb and put your sdcard
I'm sorry what is rom flashing or nandroid restore?
The clockwork update is confusing too.. I'd like to avoid that if possible..
Sorry looked up both of them and it looks like I actually need my phone to be working in order to do it?
I've read and it says it doesn't really help on stocked android phones?
The nadroid restore is the -backup and restore option in clockwork yes?

It doesnt really help if you reboot the phone cause with stock rom, every reboot flashes back the stock recovery.
what you should do is follow the steps @Zephik described above ( but without rebooting the phone) and you'll be able to enter the clockwork recovery ( a modified recovery allowing you to do a backup or rom flashing...) '
rom flashing is installing a rom modified by users for a better and faster user experience.

You should tell us your carrier and phone model, it might help the guys here to get you on the right recovery.

error when trying to access the sdcard by recovery: is not possible to mount the sdcard
I try to do everything to access the sdcard has this error
Have you fixed this? I have the same issue!
PLEASE PLEASE HELP i tried unlocking and rooting my nexus s, but i epic failed... now i can only access the bootloader... so i accessed it... unlocked it.. then tried to flash the clockworkmod recovery.. it said OKAY but then just gets stuck at the google screen with an unlocked lock.. i can't even access my phone.. i can only access the bootloader and im freaking out please help !
I don't like 3.0.2.4 so download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686 corresponding to your Nexus S model
rename it to recovery.img [assure that you have extensions shown otherwise it'll be recovery.img.img]
put it in /sdk/tools/
set your phone in bootloader mode
cd <wherever your SDK is>
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
go into recovery
OH MY GOSH, KAY NOW I HAVE CLOCKWORK MOD but i can't access my internal SD card.. and it still won't fully boot.. again it just gets stuck at the google bootscreen.. but atleast i have clockwork mod.. so whats next ? :O
so i got clockwork recovery, and as soon as i get into it.. it gives me a bunch of errors about not being able to mount cache and find it and find the recovery.log (about 8 or 9 lines of code).. but the recovery still works.. and i found a stock zip from google search.. now i tried to flash it (by first mounting my storage.. then putting the zip on my storage).. then tryed to a restore from the recovery.. it checks MD5 sums.. then it gives me a lot more error codes... could you please help ?
Well, to begin with, you should specify your phone model and provider because each build needs different ROM. And you shouldn't flash any random ROM from google. Instead try to lookup for the correct stock ROM in the Nexus S Development forum.
well im with Rogers Wireless (From Canada) and my phone model is the GT-I9020 and the problem im pretty much getting now is that it can't find boot and cache partitions...
EDIT** i can access adb aswell now
Have you tried downloading and flashing a custom rom from the nexus s android development section? (CM7 for instance) You mentioned previously that you put a stock zip to your internal storage but ended up restoring instead? Try downloading a custom rom, mount USB drive, copy the rom to the sdcard, unmount USB drive, wipe factory, wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik, choose zip to install, install the custom rom. Ideally that should get you past the Google logo and into a working build.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
the thing is.. it can't even restore the original zip.. like the partitions can't be found.. and it seems like its a brick now plus the phone isnt rooted... i was trying to root it.. then this whole thing came up...
When you say restoring from original zip, are you talking about a nandroid backup? Or a stock rom you downloaded? In any case, I would still recommend doing what I mentioned earlier. And no, your phone is not bricked at all.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
it's a nandroid backup ( i took the img. bundle in the folder thats labeled with the date *ie. 2010-12-22.21.06.07*).. i tried installing this as a backup.. and it wouldn;t work.. i got *checking md5 sum.. then 6 or 7 lines of code all seeming to relate to not being able to mount the cache partition and not being able to find recovery.log in the /cache... so i think my cache-ext is screwed up.. I tried using the sdpart script in adb.. and it didnt help matters... so im not sure what to do now
So. I'm sorry to say, but this phone has given the biggest headache. Here's the background:
I really only use this phone for entertainment and stuff. BUT I decided to root and unlock the bootloader, somehow or another the phone apparently lost root a few times (According to some users here) but never lost SuperUser or anything. I've never been able to flash a rom on this thing. Then a few weeks ago the phone just encountered an error of some sort and would only get to the ICS boot animation and loop over and over. I just gave up on it. Then one day I decided to play with it. I got it into fastboot and then into recovery, (Not CWM Recovery) and was able to get it all set up again. So I figured I'd give it one more shot. I downloaded CWM and downloaded recovery, and a custom rom. tried to flash through fastboot>recovery but it's still the stock recovery, not CWM recovery. So I factory resetted it etc and started from scratch. Now if I download CWM it WILL NOT download recovery. It gets about 99% of the way and tells me: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" If I download it from a link I can't open the file....... Someone help I just want a good JellyBean Rom. :crying:
Edit: I've Googled as much as I could stand and still haven't come across anything entirely helpful. Please explain so I could understand. Pictures help if needed lol
Anyone?
You can't use clockworkmod app to flash recovery without root.
Get the fastboot image of cwm recovery ( not the app). Or twrp. Flash it with fastboot.
Boot directly into it and flash what you want. If you boot up a stock os it overwrites the custom recovery on boot.
clockworkmod app sucks IMHO and should never be used for anything period. Not fond of the recovery itself either.
Hey guys, flashed this camera mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516061
and am now stuck in a boot loop. my huge mistake was i didn't make a backup on CWN when i installed it, since i'm a massive noob.
I'd post this in the thread for the mod, but new accts can't post in developer forum (to prevent threads like these, probably).
anyone know a quick solution to this? i've dalvik wiped, factory resetted, wiped cache partition.
edit: i also don't know how to get the stock camera ROM back on the device since it doesn't show up in my windows explorer. if i knew that, it'd be easy to go back to stock.

If you can get back to the boot loader (hold down power button and volume down) and recovery (choice in bootloader menu), you are fine. I did the same thing. you can adb push the stock file (in his developer thread) and then flash it with custom recovery.
Here is a link showing how to adb push - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
If that doesn't work, you can always flash back stock...... Unfortunately have had to do this more than once and have learned my lesson on backups.
Speedbal
Hope that helps.

I guess you gotta learn this stuff at some point, thanks for your help! i forgot that you could push files!
now a brand new issue is that anytime i flash ANYTHING to the phone, adb doesn't see the device anymore.
anyone know what's up with that?

New nightlies of CM12.1 needs the bootloader to be updated to newer version (HHZ12H).
Following the link to flashable zip of new bootloader: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952613145 (Credit to @mo976)
Flash it in recovery
Wipe the cache
Reboot into bootloader and select recovery.
Flash CM12.1 rom.
I just tried what you recommended . Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I'm still getting "error updating binary zip" when trying to load anything on twrp
Hello all,
Last night I was trying to install the latest Gummy release on my Verizon Galaxy S3. This was the first time I have tried to flash a rom on this phone. It failed, and I rebooted my phone, and now it will only boot into the clockwork recovery.
I thought it may have been damaged as i was transferring the file to the device. I had an SD card in my droid X, So I put it in my Galaxy and formatted it with clockwork. Then I transferred the gummy release (that I also re-downloaded) from my computer to the SD card via a memory card reader. I put it in my Galaxy and tried to install the release, and it gave me a different error
Code:
E: Can't Open /external_sd/Gummy-2.1-01-09-14-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Edit: Tried a few other roms and they had the same issue, but Cyanogen Mod 10.2 worked. Anybody have any guesses why?
Edit2: Further developments, Trying to do the latest nightly fir the CM yields the same issue that Gummy's release gave me initially. It reports as follows:
Code:
E: Error in /external_sd/cm-11-20140110NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Is there possibly a firmware issue at play?
Did u unlocked ur recovery. And if ur trying to flash a KITKAT rom u need the latest clockwork recovery
I'm having this exact issue except I currently have TWRP 2.6.3. I wiped data, cache and internal and it actually booted the below ROM (the first boot) but once I got everything setup and rebooted the device it will not boot beyond recovery. It hangs on the Samsung boot logo. I've tried to restore to a 4.1.2 ROM as well as install 4.3 and 4.1.2 again multiple times but they will not boot. Any direction would be appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to mention, I did unlock with EZunlock. Would the clockwork on the play store be the latest one, or is there another place with more up to date versions?

Do you get the same error on install that I'm getting, ro are the installs finishing, but not booting?
Try goo manager or ez-recovery to install the latest recovery
right now i can think of
factory reset format data. Make sure u backup ur internal
Wen changing from rom to rom is a good thing to do a clean install
get the right gapps.
The 1st boot always takes time at least on me.
Sorry i cant think of more helpful things.. Been drinking
Looks like my recovery just needed an update. Thanks everyone.
