I've asked this in many threads, but no answer.
I've been able to obtain root with clockwork recovery on my hero using my mac but now I have an epic4g and I've been able to gain root access on the epic using my mac, but I'm not able to install clockworkmod on it. I've tried rom manager, and it says that it's installed, but I'm unable to boot into clockwork recovery. I've tried via rom manager and via the vol down/camera/power keys and it always loads into the default recovery.
Any ideas on how to get clockworkmod on my epic using a mac (I have no access to windows and don't want to install windows on my mac just to install clockworkmod on my phone as once it's on there, I won't need it again.)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking forward to flashing some of the new roms on my epic.
Thanks!
not sure on mac but i have a linux script, not familar with mac os, i might be able to whip up a short little one tomorrow tho...
Second the request
I would also appreciate it. Although I have parallels installed I still run into many headaches with adb, would be very appreciative!
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried everything that I could find and got the phone rooted via mac, and I've tried to duplicate the commands in run.bat that I've found for installing clockworkmod, but it doesn't work. Thanks!
Would anyone be willing to tell me how they rooted on their mac?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Someone ported a oneclick root for the mac, but it doesn't include clockworkmod.
ok guys here you go, i updated the mac osx script by baggage to include clockwork let me know how it goes
whoops forgot to add the file

I finally figured out how to get to clockworkmod! It took reading dozens and dozens of threads all the way through.
I can only access via the down vol, camera, power and then trigger update from the samsung recovery and then I have access to clockworkmod.
I'm finally glad that worked!
Still a bit cumbersome as I haven't found a way to get into clockworkmod directly either with rom manager or with button method. It's always a two-step process.
sounds like you flashed the patched one then used teh update, use teh one click i made and it will install 2.5.1.0 so no more needing to do that update.zip business
I have the 2.5.1 version. But I still have to do the update.zip thing.
I saw yours in my days of readings, but in the sake of time, can you show me the thread. I rooted using the one-click mac root but couldn't get clockworkmod to work, so I found another thread, downloaded the windows version, looked at run.bat in a text viewer and did all the commands manually. Most worked, but some did not, but I guess they didn't need to as it eventually worked.
just posted it above, mine original was for linux this one is new for mac os x

Hey guys,
I just used a flashtool to upgrade to android 2.1 today since the official upgrade isn't available yet. Everything is working well, except i'm not able to use 3g. Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me remedy this problem, or at least tell me what I probably did wrong? I'd really appreciate it.
The official upgrade is out there. Plug your phone into your computer and update from the se software
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the X10a. and whenever I plug it in to use the PC companion for upgrade it said my phone was up to date even with android 1.6. Was I missing something?
Alright i figured it out. I just needed to add the att apn infornation to the phone. Aftet that it worked like a charm
Helllp!
I have been trying to root my x10a. I managed to get to the point where superuser is on the phone but it does nothing. I tried to update the superuser as the message went something about 'bin v su' and update but the update failed. I tried to use superone click and got it to state that root files are in the phone now, but I tried to use titanium backup and it says must be rooted. I spent the last few days forum hopping to find a solution, downloaded SDK setup and all platforms and tried to manually put in code from the cmd.exe and it gives me something about adb is not recognized as a command. I googled the error and tried some of the recommended fixes at sxeveral sites, but I have had no luck with instituting superuser to full function. I am sure I am doing something wrong but I know I'm close. HEY YOU GUYS! (electric company on PBS)

The official upgrade is not out there in all markets. SE is setting a record for the time frame required to diseminate an upgrade globally. Comical.
You have to input the APN Settings for your carrier manually.
I do not understand and I intend upon putting 2.1 in it after its rooted, but it tells me that I need to flash into recovery for SU, but I can't back up the phone without proper root...or can I? Please more info. I generally do not ask for help, but I am in up to my nostrils with this and I want to succeed. I have tried superone click, I downloaded androot, but i CAN'T EVEN GET THAT TO RUN. Several others and manual. So do I flash from here? with no back up? and if so, how to flash to recovery, please. thanks.

If you are on 1.6, then SuperOneClick will not work. You need to be up to 2.1 for SuperOneClick to work. I do not know Androot though.
Thanks I will search how to input the APN and check in from here.
OK, I am trying to root my X10 and this is the first time that I have tried to do something like this. I am on step 2 of a guide which is to enable USB debugging and run 2_root_system, but every time I try to do it, it says "Error: Device not found" please help as I did the flash downgrade to start the process and my phone is really basic right now.
Thats very similar to the issue I'm having. Its related to the USB driver. However, I can't seem to find the USB driver to talk to the phone so that the root can be sideloaded to the phone.
im from india, i hav an unlocked at&t grey market piece. It shows on my PC companion dat d latest software is installed on d fone. how do i g8 it from 1.6 to 2.1 o betta?
Hello list,
I have been trying to root my Nexus S with the 2.3.3 update but I've been unsuccessful. I have tried "Allgamer's" GRH78 and a couple of others on youtube but I think the problem is my laptop (windows 7 32-bit) wont recognize the phone. Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone rooted their 2.3.3 phone, and if so can you send a link or PM me so I can figure this out? I eventually want to flash the Cyanogenmod 7 so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
When I had my HD2 I installed HSPL and flashed all types of ROM's without issue. My Nexus S is acting like my ex......

Well, you can try to install this driver: http://mazodude.comze.com/files/drivers.rar
That link takes me to a blank page....??? Have you rooted your Nexus and was it at 2.3.3 when you started?
Thanks, and sorry for all the questions.....I'm just trying to get this resolved.

Did you install the Android SDK? If so, I apologize as I'm not familiar with the shortcut commands for windows but you should try this:
Code:
*File path to your android sdk/tools folder*\fastboot devices
If you get a result like
Code:
################# fastboot
then your phone is being recognized, if not other troubleshooting stepsmight have to be taken.
Havent tried that yet. I will give it a shot.
Thanks!
was having the same issue with fastboot, use these drivers from pda.net
http://www.junefabrics.com/android/download.php
Having the same problem. I've tried PDAnet and am currently updating (again) SDK, but I can't get the fastboot or adb to recognize the device, no matter how hard I try. For what it's worth, my bootloader was unlocked when I upgraded to 2.3.3 (via Clockword Mod), and the unlock status seems to have been preserved. It still says "unlocked," and boots with the open padlock.
Sorry for the double post, but I posted as I was working on it. What worked for me: I had a 2.3.3 stock image booted from Clockwork. I didn't have root permissions with the stock.
The new stock (is it technically a ROM, or is a ROM just Cyanogen, Bionix, etc., like awesome developers create?) preserved the unlocked bootloader (which I've not re-locked, because I never cared about the padlock boot), but not the root. So I was left with a stock 2.3.3 with an unlocked bootloader.
I tried everything to get my phone recognized via USB under the SDK/adb, but couldn't. I adbed and fastbooted devices, uninstalled and reinstalled PDAnet, even deleted and then redownloaded and reinstalled java, SDK, *and* drivers. To no avail.
The first time I rooted, though, I used the one-click method in the MoDaCo forums, by . . . Paul(?). I think that's his name. It's a simple zip file. So I unzipped to my desktop. Which gave me a folder with the GRI40 Nexus S superboot. I disconnected my phone, shut it off, then held the volume up and power keys until it booted into the fastboot bit. Once it was in fastboot (with the green Android and the orange text up top and the blue text options along the side), I reconnected the USB, then just double-clicked the .bat file in the superboot folder.
That gave me root. I verified via rootchecker, and the moment I confirmed root, I went to Clockwork, reflashed Clockwork Mod Recovery, and did a complete back-up. That's where I am now. Not sure where I'm going from here, but I have 2.3.3 GRI40 root with baseband i9020xxb1, and that's how I did it.

Are you on a PC or a mac?
PC
Loaded up Cyanogen. Seems okay. Tried adding the Honity kernel, but that seems to bugger everything up.

Cyanogen is nice as it adds some features but if you've been living without them you might never notice having them lol. More people need to buy macs <.< I can help anyone get root on a mac >.>
I'm noticing that. It seems like kernels are what introduce problems for me; I've run Bionix and Cyanogen without issue, but as soon as I load up a kernel, I start getting force closes in any app that requires superuser permissions. I've discovered that managing the apps to clear their data/caches can help, but I'd like to find a more stable set up.

When you flash the kernel run fix permissions before you reboot. For me cfs kernels.
Im having an old Yarvik TAB220 tablet bought 2 years ago. It was forgotten for long and now that i opened it its still on android 2.3.4.
I dont know if it can be updated further but i believe it can as Yarvik has provided upgrade tools.
Here are the problems that wont let me update it:
Cant install drivers when connecting to pc. I've downloaded and tried to install them manually, still windows 7 wont recognize them.
Without being able to be detected by computer, i cant use the YarvikUpgradeTool.
I tried to root it, it said it was already rooted?
All i want is to update it to at least android 4 and root it so i can have google market and all the other apps.
Is there a way to have android updated without using the computer? It has not update option on system information. I know the thread is missing some info about the tablet so please ask me whatever extra is needed.

As i see it there is no real rom support. I did have experience with yarvik tablets. mine came loaded with 4.1.2 but it broke.
i recommend you to invest in a new tablet. I havent tried this yet but. try installing the drivers manualy. as i cant load it up and update it and install the drivers. Try installing it with other computers(like a friend or youre parents).
soz i am from Netherlands as my english isnt great

I'd like to update these 3 before i give it to them. Thanks!
Bump, I am also using the digiland 10.1 from best buy... Successfully rooted, but looking for the best way to install custom rom without bricking? Thanks in advance.

I used root genius on Windows and it worked very easily... Hoping for custom recovery but I'm only intermediate with these things so I'm not sure where to go from here.
I bought one of these from best buy and would be very interested in all info available on rooting, custom recovery, and compatible roms for this device. I registered just for this thread. lol.

I rooted with the root genius for windows. Super easy took about 20 mins. Make sure you use the download from shuame.com though. Follow the directions
review?
Since you guys are using tablet.. What's your thoughts of it so far?
I'm sure someone on her knows of a rom to use.
That site is in what appears to be chinese, even translated its...hard to tell what is going on. No worries the thing doesnt even get here till the 11th of Dec.
Ummm what?
the site he listed, its in chinese
but regardless many reviews on bestbuy are saying it comes rooted anyway.

So did anyone get a custom rom working yet?
So far I like the quality of the tablet. I also brought three tablets one being the Digiland for myself and it is a very nice tablet. I just rooted mines as well through Root Genius. It's already on 4.4 so going from kitkat to lollipop isn't a huge deal to me. I'm using Buzz Menu as my home launcher and I Really like it! One of the biggest things I look to find in a rom for this device is multi-window.
Windows XP drivers help
I'm really liking this tablet as well.
I've been trying to root it with Root Genius as well, but unfortunately I've come across a road block.
I'm using a windows xp computer and I can't seem to find any driver for the tablet when you insert it in dev mode into the PC.
It asks for "MT65xx android" drivers and despite hours of searching on the net yesterday, all the drivers I have found online get rejected during the install driver process. I point the driver install to the right folder with the unzipped XP drivers, then it just fails and states it hasn't found matching drivers in there... I tried and found like 10+ websites with no luck.
Has anyone rooted it through a Windows XP computer? If someone could help me find the right matching drivers, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, I'm happy to hear people like this tablet, since I'm giving them as gifts.
"MT65xx Android Phone" driver
It turns out that most of the drivers I was trying must have been "MT65xx Preloader" drivers (the driver that is required when connecting the tablet when it is turned off).
Could anyone who has successfully rooted theirs point me towards a valid "MT65xx Android Phone" driver for Windows XP? That seems to be the name of the driver required when the device is turned on and with usb debugging turned on (the state required for Root Genius to work). Google hasn't returned a valid one for me yet since most sites tend to get the "preloader" and "android phone" drivers mixed up or poorly labeled, it seems that all the ones I found fall in the earlier category.
Rooted
ok so I have the thing rooted with root genius. Still looking for a rom, I have also noticed that this device seems to have a 2Gb partition and then the rest of the 16Gb in another partition. Is there a way to repartition this? Im a PC tech but very new to android. This site has been very informative so far.
I have rooted and downloaded the Original ROM for the DigiLand 10.1 running 4.4.2. I am currently attempting to load Lollipop on the system.
Can you please post the link to the original ROM, I have thus far been unable to find it.
Thanks
My first one did the wireless update after Rooting with root genius and bricked. Probably just bad download. Got replacement and updated and rooted, but having to use kinguser because of the issues supersu has with access to root from SD. Flawed for some mtk devices I have found. Lucky patcher and titanium backup won't work properly with supersu. Does anyone know if superuser has the same problem?
