I have the same problem after starting the desktop and the icons bar on the botton, the device show the keyboard but I'm not able to move the cursor with the stylus.
please note that the device shows me only part of the keyboard, seem like that the resolution is wrong.
During the startup the font changes size. can be related to the wrong resolution??
No actions can be done with the sistem.
thanks and let me know if more information is need
This thread made me come up with a new prefix for these threads.
[LNX]
So put [LNX] in threads for Non Android Linux builds. So users can easily identify or search for specific threads.
Spread the word mate
With /dev/input/event3 it works well.
AmiPro wrote a new detection script for touchscreen.
Now Rhobuntu works on HTC ELF.
yo.. you know what is Elfin device code? i got to edit the startup.txt to make this LXDE runs on it. thanks!
Could you post your startup.txt?
Download for new init-script: http://rhobuntu.googlecode.com/files/init
Hello excuse, you could tell me how to replace the init file? I tried to follow the explanation at the beginning of the post, but I could not mount the file ubuntu.img, in any way. I tried with a live ubuntu, but it did not work. I tried to mount the. IMG file with magic disc but can not mount it. I guess not enough to replace the init file in the destination folder? I tried but during boot change the resolution, and the screen remains fixed on a keyboard in the middle where you can not interact. As was the case before ... Could you explain in detail how to replace the init file, or at least to run on the touch rhobuntu elf?If you want to write me a pm. Thanks
P.s. sorry for my bad English

Download Ubuntu LiveCD
http://www.ubuntu.com/
Run liveCD
- copy Ubuntu.img to the root of your harddisk (c:\ for example)
- open terminal
- open folder of Ubuntu.img (cd /media )
- mount Ubuntu.img ( sudo mount -o loop Ubuntu.img /mnt )
- run: sudo nautilus (FileManager)
- select "show hidden files"
- copy new init to /mnt
- close nautilus
- maybe you have to end the nautilus task in terminal with CTRL+C
- umount Ubuntu.img ( sudo umount /mnt )
- copy new init to /mnt
Thank you soo much!!!! Now Rhobuntu run well on my elf!!!!

did you replaced the init file?
Thanks buddy, I managed to get it installed. Mistake was mine, I copied Ubuntu.img file in ubuntu directory. as i moved it out on storage card root, it got installed.
But after installation there was a big key board on screen which i managed to drage down with stylus. but what I feel is the resolution need to be changes as it is showing everything so big.
Also, I tried to make a call to this device, we get ring at device from which I was calling, but there was nothing on the device on which I install rhobuntu. also I could not make a call from here. Can you help me in these cases.
Found something while starting rhobuntu, you may be interested to know.
While starting rhobuntu from haret.exe at one point it shows starting ophono daemon something, where it says can't create signal descriptor file. is it helpful to resolve this issue?
Gourav
Hi,
Got installed the Rhobuntu can access it. Facing two issues on it as follows;
1. Phone function not working as ofono daemon says - can not create signal filedescriptor: Function not implemented
2. Resolution are not as per device.
Please anybody help me to get all this working.

Hey community, I have just picked up one of these tablets in the hopes that I can use it for some slick new ways of remote desktop and various other work/play related functions.
I've been reading the forums here for the G the past two straight days. I tried flashing my system to TnT 2.0 found on the forums by the one and only Roebeet, Alternate GTab Firmware - TnT Lite (stock based, adds the Marketplace), but I am having issues.
First off I'm wondering if when you say root do you mean inside the /sdcard folder? because that is where Windows 7 is defaulting me to when I mount the drive. This I feel is the cause of all my issues because I thought the update.zip and /recovery were supposed to be on root. Maybe I'm just confused and need some explanation.
If there is a thread I missed that explains all this for a newbie let me know.
Thanks XDA community!

yes the root is what pops up when you mount it to the computer, just copy and paste. root means do not put in another folder just on /sdcard
I'm a newb here, but live in an AIX environment, so I hope to help.
System root is /
The onboard storage (16gb) is mounted as /sdcard
The user micro slot is mounted as /sdcard2 (side note: hoping I can get the vold.fstab to mount sdcard2 under sdcard)
I believe from reading through the TnTLight thread, that you want to put the files under /sdcard, not system root.
Somebody will correct me in short order I am sure.

That's correct. Root is / but you want the upgrade files and folders in the /sdcard directory.
Ok thank you all for tha clarification. I am following the direction correctly then. I have placed the two files into the correct 'root' directory and when I hold down power and volume ^ it does start to run the flash, but then it simply shows me the ! in the triangle and restarts. When I go in to look for the files I put there they aren't there.
Should I try and just use Clockworkmod? Or maybe someone who isn't a programmer has made this work and has some more helpful hints. I am in this communities debt as I really want this to be a cool tool/toy for me but if I can't do what I need to I'll bring it back.

Did you unzip the file you downloaded from the link here? So that you have both an update.zip file and a recovery folder? Sometimes people just rename the downloaded file update.zip and put it on their sdcard, and then get the exclamation point. The download file needs to be extracted first, to give you an update.zip file and a recovery folder, which you then copy to /sdcard (which will look like the root directory when browsing in Windows).
Great question Jacindc, and yes I have extracted the 2 files update.zip and /recovery to the root of my tablet. I am trying to remove and set my G back to some factory base to try this process again. Let me ask you a question in return. Can i use the built in ES file explorer for this process or should I use Astro or does it not matter?
Also what are these files? DiskCacheIndex11214.tmp I have several of them in root and I'm not sure if they are from my mess ups or what.
Ok update, I've found a /mnt dir on the root and inside there are duplicate folders that exist on root such as /sdcard, /sdcard2, /asec, /secure and /usbdisk....I'm confused why there is this duplication. I guess I must confess I attempted to root the G using; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843376 but when I tried to then run Titanium backup it would say no root access and I didn't see the superuser app in the drawer like I did on my Moto droid when I rooted that.
Wondering if I should try a complete wipe and type using the vanilla loader found on the forums...another question, does Windows 7 recognize your device as an Nvidia Harmony?
Last edit/update for tonight me thinks...it would seem I've borked it pretty bad because I can't get the thing to copy any files over. It says I have in Windows, so I safely remove hardware, and then unmount and go look in the download dir or the root and nothing...so not sure what I did but lol I got this one I'll return it and get another to try again I guess.
How to install TNT Lite 2.0 or Cyamogen
Hi Everyone,
I just bought an Viewsonic G-Tablet with Android 2.2 and the latest update from the official site. I'm some kind of disappointed with the interface. From what I have read I can install other stuff on it with best and quicker interface.
I'm very familiar with PC & Mac's OS, but with the Android I feel like a dummy.
I would greatly appreciate if:
1-you tell me which one is better?
2-give me cleared & details instructions on how to do it.
Please do me this favor, because I feel like this tablet is a good tools and I wish to keep it.
Thanks in advance!
Most people are first installing CLOCKWORKSMOD RECOVERY and then putting TnT-Lite 2.X.X lately.
I overwrote partition 23 thinking it was the recovery partition. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721584 for details.
Would anybody be willing to send me a copy of their partition so that I can fix mine?
Note, it contains the phone's serial number. If you don't want to share that (I wouldn't recommend it), then you'll need to be on eng hboot 0.98 so that you can change the serial number before you take a copy and then restore it back to its original value.
I'd prefer a copy from an Australian, unlocked Telstra phone, but an any unlocked phone would be ok.
If you are willing to do this and don't know how to do it, PM me and I'll provide instructions.
TIA
Edit: I managed to get a copy from another phone.

What do you mean that you don't have that partition? You don't have a /dev/block/mmcblk0p23?
If you didn't have it you would have no serial id, no model id, and who knows what else.

Hi,
I've exactly the same problem as you had. And I desesperatly need to restore that partition.
I've tried several ones, but none of them really work (3G was not working). So I looked into the dump with HexEdit and found out that they were for different part numbers.
Would you mind sharing a copy of yours so I can try it?
I would really appreciate your help.
Cheers

Fyi, this partition has the following information stored in it:
mmcblk0p23 mfgdevice: WiFi MAC-address @x40, cid @x11098 x11140, imeid @x11130, mid @x1108c x110ac, serialno @x10030 x11000
If you find a way to set the MAC address back to its original value permanently, please let me know how you did so as I've not been able to do that.
Sent from my HTC Saga
I've had also the same problem when trying to restore the original MAC address. When you changed it in the partition, the file at the beginning of the partition seems to be restored to a "default" configuration with mac addr 00:11:22:33:44... . They might be a checksum somewhere !!
By the way, the mac address is also defined a offset x110BC
If I found a solution I'll let you know.
Anyway the mac address is not really a big deal as we will probably never connect to the same wireless lan at the same time
Yeah, we'd be very unlucky to want to access the same Wi-Fi network at the same time. Lol
By the way, the mac address at 110bc is the Bluetooth mac address, not the Wi-Fi address.

Update Wifi Mac Address
Hi Bill,
If you're still interrested by restoring your wifi mac address here is how I did for my phone:
1. Dump and pull the mmcblk0p18 and mmcblk0p23 partitions
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p23.img
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p18.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p23.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p18.img
2. Edit both files with HexEdit
The wlan configuration at the beginning of the mmcblk0p23 image (0x00000040) is "protected" by a CRC checksum (at address 0x00000010).
I was not able to reverse engenireed the CRC parameters but whenever you alter the content of this file it is restored to a "factory" default configuration with macaddr=00:11:22:33:44:55
And the factory default is located somewhere in the mmcblk0p18 image (HBOOT).
They are several "factory" defaults wlan configurations in this partition (depending on your board revision and other parameters I guess), so you must find the one which exactly match the one in your mmcblk0p23 image. (you can do a search in HexEdit)
2.a. Update the factory default configuration in mmcblk0p18.img with the mac address you want to use
Save the mmcblk0p18.img file.
2.b. Alter the configuration in mmcblk0p23.img so that the CRC checksum will fail. (Just change the macaddress)
Save the mmcblk0p23.img file
3. Reflash the mmcblk0p18 and mmcblk0p23 partitions with the modified images
Code:
adb push mmcblk0p23.img /data/local/tmp/
adb push mmcblk0p18.img /data/local/tmp/
adb shell dd if=/data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p23.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23
adb shell dd if=/data/local/tmp/mmcblk0p18.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
4. Reboot and here you have you're new mac address !!!
Thanks! I'll give this a go.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
I did it all from my phone as I don't like using ADB.
The one thing that is a *must* is that both partitions have to be written at the same time.
Let me say it again - brilliant work! !

Hi Guys
I have my tf201 rooted and better terminal emulator installed with busybox (bash shell being used) and Im desperately trying to find a way to setup permanent alias's that can be used when openning terminal, ie alias sh='ssh -l user 192.168.1.1' and anything similiar. I have tried to search for a way to do this or to find out the correct file to edit (similar to editing .profile on linux). Also is .cloginrc supported, where would I find the correct file to edit for usernames & passwords for certain hosts for automated ssh logins?
Please guys, this is something that would be extremely useful for me, please help if you can

I need to know if it's possible to pull old text messages off of a backup from an old phone. Before selling my HTC One S, I made an entire dump of it onto my computer.
Now I REALLY need some texts that might have been on the phone for a legal case I'm involved in. This is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY important. I don't know if it's possible to pull texts out of a backup made on a PC or not, but I REALLY need to see what texts are on there if nothing else at all.
I also used a couple different backup methods on the phone such as nandroid, titanium, Backup Everything, etc and would like to be able to go through those as well. Is there a way to emulate the phone so I can restore these backups? Is there another way to go through the data in them without having the phone?
ANY ANY ANY and ALL help greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

With all due respect, did you read my post? lol
I don't have the phone anymore. All I have is a file structure dump I did onto my computer before I sold it.
Yes, you can do it. You need a linux host (or a mac) with sqlite3 installed.
If you have a nandroid, then you have a tar file of your data partition. You have to untar it somewhere.
If you have a raw image, you have to mount it as an ext4. (In that case, a mac won't do, and you need a linux box.)
either:
tar -xf data.tar
or:
mkdir data
mount -t ext4 -o loop data.img data
Your precious data is in the following file:
data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
You can:
cd data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
sqlite3 mmssms.db "select * from sms;"
Edit to add:
I'm sure you can extract the file in question from a .tar on windows, and I bet there are also tools to extract it from an ext4 image, but I can't point you at any.
Also, I doubt that texts you pull from a dump are good for legal use. You may have to get the data from your network provider.

Awesome. You rule.
I actually have 3 backups, all 3 of which have a file in them called "data.ext4.tar", and I can use my beloved Backtrack 5 machine (it's just so HANDY! lol) to do this. No problem.
So, I'd just untar it (this would give me an ext4 file system, right?) then mount the resulting ext4 file system and go from there?
I'm trying to get the texts from this AND from the provider.

Untarring the .tar file will give you a folder structure. You dont need to mount anything then. Just navigate to that mmssms.db file and query it with sqlite.
