FoxFi Tether + VPN - HTC One S

I'm trying to run FoxFi with HotSpot of another VPN client, but after connecting to the VPN, the hotspot client is unable to access the Internet.
WiFi Tether works fine with a VPN client, but the speeds aren't acceptable, it goes from 15-20Mbps with FoxFi to less than 1Mbps with WiFi Tether.
Strange, but there have been occasions where FoxFi will just start working with a VPN connected on my HTC One S.
Thanks,

Okay, WifiTether 3.2-Beta is running at the expected speeds and successfully connects to a VPN on the phone. It looks like FoxFI using SoftAP, but WifiTether uses Wlan0, not sure how this affects the "RouterFix."
Can somebody tell me what "RouterFix" does to allow the phone to tether while connecting to a VPN?

Did you find a solution to this?
I am running OpenVPN but I have tried Hotspot Shield VPN as well. No luck. Traffic originating on the phone travels in the VPN tunnel. But any traffic from wifi hotspot/tethered clients will not be routed correctly and be dropped.
My only workaround is to create the OpenVPN tunnel on the client Windows computer... so the Tunnel travels all the way through the phone's Foxfi and to my VPN server.
Has anyone tried a manual redirect of the SoftAP traffic to wlan0? Is that even possible with a script (IPtables) or standalone app?

Any solution? I have a Galaxy Note II and on my phone turn on foxfi and I have internet traffic on my windows 7 machine. But when I connect to VPN on my machine the internet traffic comes to a screaching halt. Do I need to do the OpenVPN on the machine?

Can't Connect to VPN

I just got my TB this morning, am working on configuring it to replace my DInc. I have an L2TP over IPSec (PSK) VPN set up on my DInc, and it works without any problem. I tried the exact same settings on my TB, and I get a box "Attention Unable to connect to the network. Do you want to try again?"
I get this message whether I try to connect from 3g/4g or from my own wireless network (on the same LAN as the VPN). When I look at the logs on the machine hosting the VPN, I see absolutely nothing when I attempt to connect from my TB (connecting from my DInc produces the right log entries). I can also connect to the VPN server from other clients (Windows 7, etc.) without any problems.
*Edit: Cannot connect from TB via PPTP either. Can connect from other PPTP clients.
I have been able to connect to my works VPN (using PPTP) without problem.
Very fast and stable so far! Used it for about 15 minutes without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply. I am still unable to connect directly from my TB, using PPTP or L2TP. If I configure my TB as a mobile hotspot and connect to the internet through it, though, I can connect to my VPN server using the TB's internet connection. But I still cannot connect from the TB using its VPN client.
Lovely. After doing some extensive reading, it sounds like the problem is likely the rom itself. Guess I'll be waiting for an update.
can you list what settings your using in your VPN? since this forum is aout people having trouble and not bragging about whats working?
I too am running dasBAMF and have no VPN's added nor can I find default settings

I'm guessing your post was directed at rajuabju, but hopefully I can help. I do finally have both PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPN's working on my TB. With what are you having trouble?
Have you tried OpenVPN? I have had the most luck with that, as well as having it forward all traffic through the VPN.

[Q] Wifi tether broadcast issue?

Hi guys,
installed wifi tether from google code.
it worked, however, noticed a couple things.
1. After turning off wifi tether, I'm still able to detect the adhoc wireless network. (Concerned about battery drain)
2. When having the wifi tether running, it isn't an access point, but an ad hoc network.
Anyone else having these issues? Known issues?
same here
I'm having the same issue basically. My laptop sees the "Androidtether" but it wont connect. It did the same thing with usb tethering too.
Installed Pdanet and it works off and on. I'm in a 4g city...frustrating that I can't get those sweet speeds over to my computer! haha
I am having same issue..anyone have any ideas? I wish it came up as a reg wireless connection instead of the ad hoc network....the stock wifi hotspot comes up correctly

Technically, the SamChg stock WiFi Hotspot is coming up incorrectly as an Infrastructure connection, and the android-wifi-tether app is coming up correctly as an "Ad-Hoc" connection.
It's just not "convenient" for us that the Google android-wifi-tether app only comes up in ad-hoc mode.
From Wikipedia: A wireless ad hoc network is a decentralized type of wireless network. The network is ad hoc because it does not rely on a preexisting infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in managed (infrastructure) wireless networks.
Personally, I can't think of anything more "decentralized" than a mobile phone.
As far as I know, the latest version found here (3.0-pre14) works, and it has infrastructure mode. Just use the Samsung Fascinate option when setting (Device-Profile) it up and it should work.
wow thanks..that worked beautifully...appreciate it

[Q] [openvpn, cm7] Hotspot not functional when openvpn is connected

I'm using CM7 stable (7.0.3) with a Nexus One.
When I enable the hotspot feature without having the phone connected to my openvpn server, my laptop (connected to the hotspot) connects to the web fine. The phone's internet connection works fine as well.
But when I enable the feature while connected to the openvpn server, even though the internet works on the phone, my laptop connects to the hotspot but cannot send/receive any data. I can ping my phone from my laptop, but pings go unanswered for example to google.com or 8.8.8.8...
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here, how I can troubleshoot or how I can fix the problem?
PS. I'd like to have the phone connected to my openvpn server rather than my laptop while using the hotspot as the laptop's openvpn connection is unstable when using the phone's hotspot (I do't know why).
Thanks!
I think the problem is the Gateway used by the laptop to connect to the internet. When you activate the hotspot the laptop will use to connect to the internet as gateway the ip provided by 3G. When you activate the VPN the gateway is changed but the laptop can't tell that and it uses the wrong IP address.

[Q] Problems with RDP through Droid Bionic Verizon WIFI Hotspot and VPN

I am trying to use my Driod Bionic to get to my work dekstop. This is what I am doing. I am firing up the wifi hotspot (paid through Verizon) and connecting my laptop to that. I verify that it has internet access. Next I open my Cisco VPN client and connect to my work network (I get proper IP address, DNS servers and search domain). When I open remote desktop and try to get to my work PC (or any other pc/server) it times out.
We also have a Veriaon MiFi and I do the exact same thing and it works flawlessly. It seems to be related to the phone. I also have a co-worker trying to do the same thing with an iPhone and having the same result.
It appears to be something in the phone blocking traffic. Has anyone else had this problem and got it to work? When I call Verizon they say they don't support it past connecting to the VPN. Another agent toled me I need to get an app to ebable the RDP passthrough.
Thanks a million!

Using built-in VPN on AT&T (LTE & HSPA)

Has anyone been successful using the VPN function on AT&T's LTE network? I can connect successfully but no web pages will display and it's as if I have no internet connection. Using the same VPN while on HSPA or WiFi seems to work fine, so it leads me to believe it's a problem with AT&T's network.
On a side note, does anyone know if tethered connections also route through the VPN connection on the phone?...and if so, would it hide the tethering from being detected by AT&T?

Not sure if your problem is the same as my. But when I connect to my work vpn, i think it routed all my phone's data to the work vpn connection.
anyone knows how to separate the two?
I want work lync on vpn and others remain using my carrier 3g connection.l

Not quite the same issue, but I'll take a stab at answering your question. That is exactly how VPN was designed to work. If you connect to your work's VPN, everything on your phone will route all of your data through that VPN. It's done at the system level, not application level.
