[Q] Difference between SHIP S-OFF and ENG S-OFF

I bought a used Inspire 4G , and I notice it states SHIP S-OFF, so I am wondering whats the difference between SHIP S-OFF and ENG S-OFF? Can I flash any Inspire 4G ROMs for SHIP S-OFF? ( I did flash Andriod Rev)

You can flash ROMs with S-off like you have now if you're rooted. ENG off is for flashing a new radio. Before you even think about flashing a new radio, read everything possible on here about it. It can be very risky and leave you with a bricked Inspire. Be aware of that before you dive into that ball pit.
Specifically, SHIP=Shipping bootloader
ENG=Engineering bootloader. Use ENG at your own risk.

You do not need eng s-off to flash radio firmware updates. Use the method in the hack kit as an example of how to do it with only radio s-off and a shipping hboot. It's easy, safer and more reliable than fastboot flashing.
The main advantage to eng hboot is for developers testing kernels. You can safely fastboot boot images. The average user has no good reason to be fooling with fastboot flash.

Ok - this is a great post because I need to return my Inspire to stock. When I go to bootloader I have:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
I'm still rooted because I want to use my Inspire for another couple of weeks before returning. I also have gotten rid of Radio S-Off because I'm not gonna flash any radio's from the stock one that I'm using now.
Is the above bootloader what the stock bootloader came with ?? In other words , if I flash over a stock RUU will I be ready for return ? I just can't remember what my bootloader said when I bought it (I would assume it was "S-On")

I doubt that most reps would check if your phone had S-off in the boot loader. As long as you have the stock rom on the phone when you return it in case they look at the functionality I pretty sure you are ok anyway.
Why bring it back though? What are you picking up instead?
Can someone post a tutorial on how to get radio s-off? Do you need to go back to complete stock?

s-off, or s-on? To get s-off, just follow the hack kit instructions.
I did follow the hack kit. What I'm trying to do is get radio s-off. What I'm asking is, should I follow the hack kit, and then restore the Desire HD stock ROM and run the Desire HD hacks for radio s-off?
so i have eng s-off and flashed a new radio, is there any danger of having eng s-off if it is not tinkered with?
Why do all of my questions go unanswered? Do i smell bad?

You've lost me. If you followed the hack kit, then you should have radio s-off already and have a rooted ROM with the ability to run most any "hack" you want.
If you've followed the hack kit and are rooted and now want to go back to stock with radio security back on, then that's something entirely different.

There shouldn't be. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the danger is in what you can accidentally mess up through bootloader commands when you have eng s-off. Normal flashing of ROMs, ect. shouldn't pose any threat.

Finally got it working. I re-ran the hack-kit.
Just flashed the newest test radio (running CM7 test 22) and I have to say, the speeds, up and down, are amazingly fast compared to the stock radio. I'll post more impressions later.
Also picked up a 1600MAH battery. So far, so good.

You don't NEED ENG S-Off to flash a radio
See this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002226) thread
You can just use a PD98IMG.zip and flash through HBoot - much safer this way. If you really want, here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403) is the one click ENG S-Off tool

how to know if your perm rooted already?

i have followed ikhzter instruction with no problem but it says im s-off but my hboot is 1.17.0008 still, in his guide it says
7. You're done. Your Device will Successfully have S-OFF....if it hangs on method 3 and doesn't S-Off. See post 2 below for solutions.
IF REVOLUTIONARY SAYS FAILED YOUR PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. Go back and check hboot using the methods above. some users are told its failed and they still have S off now. If you have S-off your hboot will now be 1.17.1011 and revolutionary will tell you now your device is not supported
is it ok?
but i manage to get through all his instruction with no problem
how do i know if i have perm root already?
sorry for noob question
If you have super user and it works, you have root
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I have the same question/problem 1.17.0008 but S-OFF.. I assume the 1011 is a engineering spl allowing fastboot commands? I could be way off, its been a long time since I messed with HTC stuff (G1)
s-off is just the hboot security correct, and not an unlocked bootloader? Man, I got my sensation Wednesday and its been a crash course trying to relearn the htc way, lol.
oh cool, i got superuser
ty
but is it ok that my hboot remains 1.17.0008?
Super User always means success Its the sexiest icon you could ever see lol

If you're returning it to STOCK then you use the one it came with. However, if you're not sending it back to TMOUS (which I don't think you are) then you could just flash the EU 1.50.401.1 RUU

Hello,
I'm a complete noob.
My sensation 4G has decided to stop working. (HTC start up screen loops) I sent my phone to HTC but they want to take all my money. Phone repair guy says it just needs new software update, but wont do it for me. SO Ive tried flashing ROMs but it seems I dont have the correct ones. Some have CID error, some have MID error. Is this the right thing to do?
I really need to find a ROM that is compatible with my phone. I dont need anything fancy, just one that will let me text people and maybe even make a call. :crying:
I have unlocked using HTC dev.

MID PG5811000
I dont know if this info helps.
Does anybody have any idea what I can do to get this thing working again?
Thanks

pohh Maybe you should try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195902 for me worked as a charm hope for you as well try searching some guide how to flash custom ROM you should use a SSD memory card reader, and you should try to find a guide to install e recovery app something like that " http://www.xda-developers.com/android/super-utility-for-the-htc-sensation-4g-and-xe/ " " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668276 " have a try and hope will go everything toa good end

[Q] Help With RUU or S-OFF, Stuck at ICS S-ON

So I flashed the ICS OTA to see if my signal improved, and it was the same so I wish to install ARHD ICS but cannot without S-OFF and S-OFF is just all round useful.
I'm still S-ON with 1.27 hboot, and have managed to install ARHD but still S-ON. Does anyone know a way to get back to GB stock or S-OFF 1.27. I have tried an RUU but it always fails, and using A PG85IMG.zip doesn't work (just stays on parsing or reboots a lot).
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and will do all I can to help myself and you guys.
Thank you.
Bump, really need help. I can't flash anything from bootloader, not RUU.zip or firmware, it just reboots or says parsing for a long time. Really need to fix this.

No, as you don't have S-OFF
Although I believe a guide is being written to 'brick' the phone on purpose so you can downgrade it but it's not ready yet (not my work)

[Q] Need help Unlocking Bootloader

I have an HTC Inspire 4G. I got it about 2 weeks ago because I broke my other one, and then a couple days later I updated it to 3.20, which is the latest version from HTC. So I'm pretty sure that it was shipped with Froyo and not Gingerbread.
From the HTCDev website, I downloaded the Cingular USA RUU 2.47.502.7. Now when I open it on my computer, it shows up as version 2.50 and ends up giving me an error saying I need to upgrade to ROM 2.47.502.7.

Your phone did not come shipped with froyo. I have no idea what your trying to do by flashing the 2.47 ruu. Are you using some guide or something?
You need to read up on the aahk. Just Google attn1 hack kit and you find it. Once you read it a few times you can follow this to root the phone as the 3.20 update has a different process than the 2.47

The guide seems self explanatory. Not sure where your question is
After some more reading I think I might see where the confusion is on the HTC dev site. Further proof of why its sucks compared to aahk. The exe files listed are to just update the hboot to proceed the steps. Those were intended for people who had an old version. But those on 3.20 already have the updated when when you flashed 3.20 just skip that part and continue with the rest of the steps.

Im going to tell you what I did step by step and maybe you can help.
Im starting with step 6 "Unlocking Bootloader.
1. Went to HTCDev.com
2. Clicked Unlock Bootloader and chose "HTC Desire HD"
3. I accepted the rules and such
4. Now I'm at a site where it tells me the steps to unlock the bootloader
5. I scroll down and download the "Cingular USA", ROM 2.47.502.7
6. After its done downloading, I click it to open it
7. When it runs it eventually gets to a point where it gives me an error saying I need to update to the latest ROM to download version 2.47.502.7
I have stock version 3.20.#####.
I dont know why I'm getting this error. I have also done everything before this step too, just incase you think I didnt do them.
Skip that part. Just go to the next step. You can look at my previous comment as to why

Even when my bootloader is lock?
And skipping it wont brick my phone correct? I've bricked my phone before so I dont want it to happen again.
Skip that step as in skip the step in the HTC dev site to unlock the boot loader. Think of it as a pre step before the actual unlocking happens. You don't need that step as you already have the appropriate hboot version.
