Replace your old NTP server by new one according to your location/Country. Then, your GPS locating will work faster/ GPS servers will be found more quickly.
Go to /system/etc/gps.conf (via any file manager, you need root -you know)
Now, back up the gps.conf file for any further use. Now replace the NTP server address according to your current country/location(the NTP servers list is given below). And save the file.

I can't thank you enough for this. Changing the NTP servers to the appropriate one for my country increased my GPS accuracy 10 fold (Was getting ~30m, now getting ~3m)
I want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Are you saying that if I live in the US, I should replace:
Code:
north-america.pool.ntp.org
with
Code:
us.pool.ntp.org
?

I also wanna be sure I'm doing it right. I think in your case it is sth like
#Test
NTP_SERVER=time.gpsonextra.net
#North America
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER_US=us.pool.ntp.org
Note so sure about the:
#Test
NTP_SERVER=time.gpsonextra.net
But yeah ... i tried basically the same for Europe and for the country I am in, in Europe, but still fail ... guess my LG Spirit just has a ****ty gps.
OK, probably a syntax issue or something. Not familiar with the syntaxt but the # seems to have made the difference in my case. Since I saw how it was organized by default it made sense to stick to that syntax. So I had originally this:
Code:
#Test
#NTP_SERVER=time.gpsonextra.net
#Asia
# NTP_SERVER=asia.pool.ntp.org
#Europe
[B]NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER_SCA=south-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER_AME=asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER_AU=oceania.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER_CN=cn.pool.ntp.org[/B]
#North America
# NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
#Korea
#NTP_SERVER=0.kr.pool.ntp.org
#JP
# NTP_SERVER=3.jp.pool.ntp.org
...
Notice that the # is missing European entries prolly cos the phone was setup this way, since i bought it in EU.
I now have:
Code:
#Test
#NTP_SERVER=time.gpsonextra.net
#Asia
# NTP_SERVER=asia.pool.ntp.org
#Europe
[B]NTP_SERVER=uk.pool.ntp.org[/B]
#North America
# NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
#Korea
#NTP_SERVER=0.kr.pool.ntp.org
#JP
# NTP_SERVER=3.jp.pool.ntp.org
I kept everything the same, and since the # was missing only for the entries under '#Europe' I therefore edited only that. Here's the source where I got the NTPs - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243965 Seems the GPS works for now on its own.
Has anyone tested the difference between using Global — pool.ntp.org VS country.pool.ntp.org. ?
The dns servers should select a close local ntp server when using pool.ntp.org.

Hello!
I have an intersting project in mind that should help many people once it gathers steam - a list of USSD commands for all operators around the world.
You can help us by posting in this thread your operator name, country and useful USSD codes.
Also, if you know of any ready-to-use databases around the internet, please post a link here and we will add that info.
Best regards, Fahrbot team.

As the title says,here are gps configs for all of you.
Now you can set your gps to fix faster for your location.
How to set it?SIMPLE!
Go to /system/etc/ and search for a file named gps.conf.
Open it and modify this:
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
Use your location settings.Example:
I'm in Angola so i will modify the line to look like this:NTP_SERVER=ao.pool.ntp.org
ALSO modify SUPL_HOST and SUPL_PORT with theese values:
SUPL_HOST=supl.sonyericsson.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
If you dont have SUPL_PORT and SUPL_HOST just add this to your gps.conf:
SUPL_HOST=supl.sonyericsson.com
SUPL_PORT=7275

Yes but i wanted to show people how to do it manualy.That's why it is named tutorial.
I feel better if i modify it myself than using a program for this.People learn new things doing this .
Just use app FasterFix. it does this job for you ;-)
fasterfix adds too googles SUPPL

anyway, best gps.conf is in Crybernation RC1 ROM ;-) try it, keep it
Nice tutorial, for me the best gps config is the one with T-Mobile as SUPL but without the certificate file, although I think it's kinda lame we need loads of gps tweaks to just make it work. At the default gps.conf I get 5 sats max and they never lock, how crappy is that
Luckily there are patches, else the i9001 gps would be doomed

If you modified your gps.conf and saved it you can find a file near it named gps.conf.bak.
Delete your current gps.conf,then rename gps.conf.bak to gps.conf.Now you have the stock settings!
Cheers!
Already did that, I ain´t stupid Are there any major changes in Gps.config in CM 9 because people say that it has faster location lock?
