[Q] Galaxy S 3 won't connect to 4G, any ideas? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys,
I have a Verizon galaxy s 3. I was running CM10.1 M2 for a while, and now I'm running CM10.1 M3. This issue started in M2, but has continued in M3 even after a clean flash.
I have tried pulling the battery, toggling airplane mode, and checking in radio settings to make sure it's set to connect to 4G, but none of that has worked.
I also had an back when 4G still worked where it wouldn't connect to data at all, because it was stuck in GSM mode. I had to *#*#4636#*#* to fix that. It showed up on the play store as a Vodafone GS3 instead of a verizon. Right now the carrier shows up as - in the play store.
3G still works fine, but I have a feeling my battery is getting destroyed by my phone trying to connect to 4G while I'm not on wifi.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Edit:
I have backed up my IMEI data with the built in backup, but the synergy rom method fails when I try it. My IMEI is not blank, however.

I had this problem a couple times. I flashed stock via Odin and did a full wipe in the stock android recovery. Worked like a charm. For whatever reason custom recovery(s) are not getting a full wipe. Only discovered this in preparing my phone to return to Verizon.

No 4G at all

I have an s3 that I flashed to CM10, AOKP 6 and I also tried synergy. I cannot seem to get LTE on the first 2 adn with synergy, I can only get it by using the phone info thing and switching to an LTE ONLY mode. I noticed when I was stock I didnt see it going to LTE either. is this a problem with it switching over or what? When I try to switch to the LTE ONLY mode on the other 2 roms, I get no connection at all.
Any ideas? Is the phone toast? I am an experienced flasher, as I am coming from a galaxy nexus lte and am a crack flasher. Before each rom, I wiped data, cache, dalvik and system.
anyone have ideas? I am at a loss.
thanks
edit: I also noticed that on CM10 and AOKP the activation fails, and I can skip it. My phone number shows up as unknown but I have an IMEI number
*#*#4636#*#*
Change to CDMA/LTE Auto
I did that and I noticed no change. I only have 3g

I'm having the same problem, I think. When I switch to an LTE option in phone info, it doesn't stay that option. it goes back to CDMA auto.
Can you just go to the verizon store and ask for a new one? Do they need to see your phone or anything like that, that will tell them its rooted?

I was afraid and flashed back to stock before taking it in, but the sim card thing is common. so just say you were told by customer service to come in and get a new sim and they will set you up. if you dont feel like going to the store, customer service will overnight you one, pretty much no questions asked. so its no big deal
This is a common problem... i had it too with synergy 1.2. The phone info app was stuck gets stuck on cdma . I had to flash the stock image through odin and flash synergy again. No new sim cards are required

Check your baseband then head to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313 then flash a different radio.. meaning if you running LF2 then flash LG1 and vice versa. After i changed the modem i boot up into 3g went into phone info and chose lte only and 4g turned on.
When it happened to me i was running synergy (LG1-radio)...jellybomb theme..so there must be an issue there . i think its the jellybomb theme since it was made for sprint users

Pop up dialer, type *2767*3855#
and it will reset your 4G by fixing the SIM card - and immediately reboot. I've had the problem twice, and both times this key sequence fixed it. :highfive:
So a friend of mine was having the same issue. No 4G in an area I know he has full 4G signal. I reflashed the unrooted stock image in Odin (he was already stock, rooted, unlocked with cwm 6.xx) and still no dice. I tried flashing both radios, no dice. Also tried the dialing above to reset everything, nothing. Finally I gave up and told him to take it in into a store and they replaced the sim card and it worked! We then rerooted, unlocked, flashed cwm and all was good.
However, I asked him what all he had originally done after getting the phone so that we could try to take it step by step and see what caused it. I installed TiBu and lucky patcher as he had previously done (I don't condone pirating, espeically this great app but I wanted to try and recreate the issue) and it broke it, no 4G! I think the culprit was lucky patcher; I highly doubt TiBu could cause it as I have had no trouble with it. Only other rooted app he installed was adblock but again, I use this all the time with no troubles. I told him to just pay for the app! But I am still interested if anyone else might have had the same issue so we could try to prevent it for others? Any of you above who lost 4G did you by chance use lucky patcher?
Edit: Also, i noticed that I put the phone in 4G LTE only mode using phone info the 4G LTE symbol pops up but there are no signal bars. However, it appears as if there is signal since data speeds work fine and at normal LTE for this area so just the bars are screwed up, and then something with the hand off when switching back to normal off LTE only? Anyone else exeriencing this or have you tried to see if you actually have LTE even though you have no bars?
Same crap on my white 16gb gs3. Ridiculous data connections.

[How To] Fix Roaming / Broken Activation After CM 10.1 Update

Intro
The info on how to do this is scattered around, thought it might be good to have a post for this, was really annoying for me to get this fixed
Problem
After upgrading to the latest Cyanogenmod 10.1 (cm-10.1-20121224-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip), the phone will not connect to the cell network. Some symptoms of this:
- Cannot send/receive text messages
- Cannot make calls, all calls give error "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number"
- On boot, activation starts ("Waiting for network...") but cannot complete
- In Settings -> About Phone -> Status, you see the following info:
-- Roaming: Roaming
-- Mobile Network State: Disconnected
-- My phone number : 000-000-0311 (or similar)
Solution
I tried a number of solutions, but the only way I've seen to fix this is to revert to stock ICS using Odin, then perform a full factory reset. Please note that you will lose ALL data, including anything on the internal storage. The SD card should not be touched. You will also lose your unlocked bootloader, although that is easily restored.
1. BACK UP any data you might need, including clockwork/titanium backups, get them off your phone
2. Follow instructions here to flash the rooted ICS image (stock.vzw_root66.tar) using Odin. The torrent is much faster to download the image.
3. If your phone goes into a boot loop (stuck on the LTE boot logo), boot into stock recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power) and clear data / factory reset
4. Boot up the phone, go into the dialer, type: *2767*3855#
5. Your phone will immediately factory reset itself
You should now have cell connectivity again, and should also have root. You can then unlock your bootloader (get v1.2 here) and finally use Clockwork to re-install another ROM.
Note that after doing the above to restore my cell connectivity, I tried to do a clean install of CM 10.1, with full data wipe and such, and I once again lost cell connectivity and had to factory reset again. It seems to me like something is very broken with CM 10.1 for the VZ S3, and until it's figured out I recommend staying with CM 10.0 (cm-10-20121216-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip), which does not appear to have this problem.

easier way is If you remove ur sim card and boot up and connect via wifi, u can then register and set up the phone. then shut down put sim card back in and boot up. go to system settings -> More... under wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> CDMA subscription and choose RUIM/SIM (NOT NV)
This should now let the ur phone have access to the network and get rid of the roaming issue.
Same problem
Having this exact problem. My problem is I do not have access to a windows computer and thus cannot use Odin. I have already performed a Factory reset so I may try the way that involves removing the sim card. I dont know how more people haven't posted on this yet...

as far as I can tell this does not work. You must have a sim card to get past the second screen in boot up. There is no other option besides to turn of your phone.
Thank you for the help! My phone as been out of commission for the past 2 days and the OP directions fixed it. However the second post did nothing to help out. Worth a shot though
Does anyone know if this can be done from a Mac?? I am a little desperate here. Ive spent most of Christmas day messing with this.
You'll have to find a Windows computer, or install a windows virtual machine using vmware fusion or parallels desktop.
will this work for us cellular??

How???
Okay, finally have my service back in stock touchwiz. This is what I did for anyone that cares to know: In CM10 during "activation" I pulled my sim card out, let it finish activating, powered down put sim card back in. Then I booted it back up and went to system settings -> More... under wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> CDMA subscription and choose RUIM/SIM (NOT NV). THEN I did a factory reset in CM10 making it look as if I had just flashed it again. Then I booted into recovery and went back to stock TouchWiz where my 4g LTE came back magically and I could call and place texts. Not really any rhyme or reason but my service is back and I am beyond pleased. I am very nervous to flash any roms as of now I might wait til tomorrow luckily I have all my stuff backed up Hopefully it stays this way. Message me with any questions and I will help as much as I can. Merry Christmas

None of this has worked for me. I have followed the post directions and still have roaming. I am not seeing this option some of you are talking about though " wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> CDMA subscription and choose RUIM/SIM (NOT NV)"... is this option supposed to be in the stock ics rom?
Update: the line had been suspended for some very odd reason
Got it working on VZW SG3 for now
This worked for me:
Reboot to recovery and fix permissions (not sure if this step helped just following some other posts) --> change mobile networks to the sim option ---> and most importantly enable National Data Roaming (this is the step that kicked over my signal)
After doing this it has started to let me call out and receive sms. My only concern is what consequences will i have with the national data roaming enabled and secondly when I am in other networks if I will get better signal; i live in a small town and get 1x so I have no idea what will happen till i get into the city but this seems to be a good fix for now. Hope this helps.
Tried all posted solutions and then some, still can't get CM 10.1 working on d2vzw
All,
I have a stock-rooted SCH-I535, and am also unable to get CM 10.1 working without losing the voice connection. It appears that my problem is corrupted NVRAM. Although my IMEI remains correct after flashing 10.1, my phone number and other info (ERI) gets corrupted. After a day of anxious attempts to fix the phone, the only fix I've found is flashing root66 (after which the phone still doesn't boot to the OS), factory reset (allows phone to boot), and then dialing factory-reset code *2767*3855#. For some reason the dialer-initiated reset seems to fix the NVRAM issue while the recovery-initiated reset does not.
After figuring out how to fix the problem, I've tried a handful of ways to get CM 10.1 working properly.
Original try: flash 10.1 over rooted-VRBLK1 using TWRP 2.3.1. After fixing by flashing root66, recovery factory-reset, and dialer factory-reset, I was nervous and made a couple backups.
used the su ; reboot nvbackup commands in this RootzWiki post.
Made a QPST backup with the instructions in this XDA post.
2nd try: factory reset, wipe data/system partitions, re-flash 10.1 with TWRP. This attempt had the same roaming/corrupted phone info result, but this time I was confident because I was armed with the two backup methods above.
I tried using the Samsung MEID RepairV3.5 in this XDA thread, but it wouldn't connect to the phone running CM10.1. I've gotten that tool to connect to the root66 image, so I know I'm following the procedure correctly. However, the developer specifically states that the tool is intended for stock images, so I wasn't surprised that it failed to work on CM 10.1.
with su privilages, I used terminal command "reboot nvrestore". I expected this to work, but it resulted in an unbootable OS. I had to flash root66 and repeat the fix process described at top.
Third try: flashed 10.1 again with TWRP 2.3.1. I tried using the QPST recovery I had created earlier. I got the phone into diagnostic mode (RMNET+DM+MODEM) using terminal commands for AOSP ROMs. For some reason I couldn't get the scripts to work, even with full permissions in the "root" directory -- the script resulted in the phone disconnecting from my computer in MTP mode, but it didn't connect in diagnostic mode. Terminal commands did the trick though -- I may be making some n00b mistake with the scripts. After typing the commands in manually and connecting to QPST, when I told QPST to "restore" the backup, it gave me an error message with incompatible phone, and if I checked the "allow phone/file ESN mismatch" box, the restore failed because the phone didn't respond to the QPST commands. I'm sure the phone was in diagnostic mode because it came up under Device Manager "ports" as depicted in the QPST instructions, so it seems like the corrupted NVRAM was causing problems with making a QPST connection.
Fourth try: TWRP update to 2.3.3.0. Same results as 2.3.1.0.
Fifth try: switch to clockworkmod touch recovery 6.0.2.3. Same result as both TWRP versions.
So, I'm pretty frustrated. I have the phone back up and running rooted-stock VRBLK3. I'd really like to get JB4.2 though, so if anyone can ID the problem, please post! I hope it's a simple fix from a n00b mistake, but after all the fruitless effort above, I expect that it's a more significant issue.
One last thought: I always rebooted into recovery to install the 10.1 image, and I never tried using the ClockworkMod ROM Manager or TWRP-compatible GooManager apps. My wife is tired of me spending the holiday weekend hunkered over my phone, so if anyone wants to try that route please let me know if it works.
The only other idea I have is to install 10.1, then try flashing the VRBLK3 baseband by itself. Again, I don't have the time to pursue this idea (or expertise to know if it's a good one), so any good insight would be appreciated. One last thought: personally, I'm not willing to wander around in voice or data "roaming" even if everything else is working fine. I rely on this phone for daily use, and am not comfortable without the radios working normally.
Happy new year!
thank you. can confrim this method to work for a verity of roms. ha.

This worked, just reboot the phone after you make this change and you'll have your activated phone back with voice/data. :good:
No Service
I flashed CM10.1-m a few days ago (using this method to root and unlock bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2046439 then flashing CM10.1-m through Odin), and my phone worked flawlessly for 2 days. It started to lag a bit during swipe-style text entry (no tracing line or predictive words appeared), so I rebooted hoping to fix the problem.
After reboot I lost all verizon service. The phone said "No Signal" or "Emergency Calls Only." The phone would not identify a mobile network, and no option for CDMA/LTE was available under mobile network settings, although verizon APN's were still identified. I think I lost my IMEI/EFS but don't know enough to be sure.
First I flashed stock VRALG1 android 4.0.4 without success. However after I flashed stock VRBLK3 android 4.1.1 my verizon service was restored.
I would really like to figure out how to keep CM10.1... touchwhiz is awful. Can someone confirm this problem can be fixed through one of the following methods? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35600769&postcount=2&nocache=1
Also don't want to trip my flash counter... any idea at what point this would happen?

[Q] At a loss, data but no voice/sms

I was running the latest stable version of CM10.1 on my GS3 and all was going well until someone sent me a text message and I tried to respond. I was greeted with the error of message not sent. I attempted to text someone else to have the same error. Attempting to call someone will just hang and eventually say call failed.
I thought it was a radio issue so attempted to flash different modems but had the same result. So I restored my previous rom Beans 11 that was working after wiping and the same issue. Data works perfect, but voice and text does not. I searched and odin'd back to stock VRLG1 and entered *2767*3855# in hopes of that fixing the problem, again no voice/text.
Any suggestions further help? I don't know what else to try!
*CM10.1 was working fine, and then calls/texting stopped but data continued to work without trouble.
*IMEI seems to be intact
*Flashed backup of known working rom and issue still persists
*Flashed back to VRLG1 and attempted *2767*3855# as per another post to no avail and this is where I sit.
Same thing. Installed jellybeans 12 now I can't call or text. Prior text was hit and miss some days....restored stock rooted image flashed other Roms....no help. Dialed the ** number....so screwed. Ayneegry should have backed up my few several times. No idea what to do.

When you say "Data" do you mean wifi or 3g/4g? If you have no phone/text/3g/4g then it's probably your imei. Check under phone settings, see if it's gone. If it's gone you gotta restore, do a search.
If you have 3g/4g then I don't know what the problem is. Sorry, just trying to help
Odin back to ICS and reprovision your phone by going into the dialer and typing *2767*3855#
rgrossie - data as in 3G/4G works no problem... phone showed IMEI still there but followed a thread to restore it anyway to make sure that wasn't the issue...
Edgehood -- I've tried that, and that's where I currently sit, stock ICS with 4G data but doing the re-provision doesn't seem to fix anything -- occasionally a text will slip through, but I'm unable to reply

I hear ya, if I can't figure out what's up, I'll end up having to go back to verizon and see what I can do... It was out of the blue, everything was working and then suddenly it just stopped. Happened on a flash that was a little over a day old, so who knows.
Check Mobile network
I have thiss problem happen occasionally when I flash custom roms. Look under your mobile networks, see if either CDMA/SIM is checked or NV. If NV is checked switch to CDMA/SIM and then reboot. That seems to fix that problem most of the time.
Edit: After some tests found out this doesn't always stick, but I did find out that after switching from NV to CDMA/SIM turn on airplane mode so the radios are tunred off, wait a few moments, then turn airplane mode off. That worked more consistently than restarting it.

Did you ever fix this? I currently have the same problem and have no idea what to do.
i had the same problem but a imei/efs restore fixed it. My imei was not missing but data worked and not calls or text. Changed sim and still same, even odined back to stock and unlockex and rooted no luck restored nandroid no luck. Then restored synergy imei/efs backup and good to go. Hope it helps.

I had the same issue two days ago when I flashed to the latest MIUI Rom. Here's how I fixed it.
Go into settings, mobile networks, make sure subscription is set to SIM. After that open the phone, type *#*#4636#*#* make sure it's set to LTE/CDMA/AUTO
Reboot phone and all should be well.

If you Odin back to the original stock unroofed ROM, you'd have to take all the ota Verizon updates to vmf1. Then reset your phone.
Pain in the a$$ but has always worked for me. I had same problem running carbon.
I read in another post that Odin back to root66, them reset your phone would work too.

Stuck in Roaming

My wife's S3 went haywire this morning. Out of the blue, it lost voice and data. The phone was on Synergy, an older version, for quite awhile when this happened. I reset the IMEI, nothing. I Odined back to stock, and now everything is working, except it has the triangle above the signal bars, meaning it thinks it is roaming. I've tried everything I can think of. Wiped data multiple times, reformated through ODIN several times, it still comes up with the triangle. How can I reset this so the phone doesn't show roaming?
I never had that problem but I did have a problem with the phone not going into roaming. I also tried everything even got a new sim card didn't help. Then I did a factory data reset from the settings instead of TWRP and as soon as the phone rebooted I was able to use it in Canada. Now I understand that you're having the exact opposite problem but have you tried to do a data factory reset by going into settings then backup and reset . That might help. I mean I have done a data reset in recovery but that didn't work.

Interesting. I'll give that a try.
Nope, it didn't work. I'm at a loss. I figured reverting to stock would have corrected it, but it hasn't.
I was up late trying to get this working. It remains stuck in roaming. I guess that's an improvement from having no mobile connection, but I could still use some help. Here are things that I've tried.
Odin to stock. it boot looped. I had to flash the TWRP recovery chain and clear cache before it would boot.
Odin to JB.

Repair IMEI. It was incorrect when the issue first happened, but now it is corrected.
changed the settings from global to LTE, and other various tweaks.
Something I noticed is that most of the APNs are greyed out under Mobile Networks. Only EHRPD - Verizon 800 and EHRPD - Verizon Internet are selectable. This is not the case for my phone. They all are selectable. I have a feeling this is where the issue lies, but I have no clue how to fix it.
Try to reprovision the SIM
The dialer doesn't do anything when I try using the code *2767*3855# Does it not work after upgrading to JB or must I revert back to stock?
Yes revert back to I believe it's G1/G7 I believe it's something like that

[Q] 4G LTE Not Working

Guys I've tried searching and tried damn near anything I can think of/find here on XDA and other sites.
Over the weekend I got a little sick of my GPS not locking on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535. I was running CleanRom 7 and I believe I was on MB1 - I could be wrong on the basebad that I was on.
Anyways, after doing my normal reading to see what the latest and greatest things going on are I decided I wanted to do a complete wipe like I'd done in the past, update to MF1 firmware, update my radio to ML1, then put a fresh install of CleamRom 7 on there.
So I used to did a format of my external SD then a factory wipe/reset & cache wipe in CWR. I then went directly into Odin mode (Home Button/Volume Down/Power) and flashed the root66_VZW_I535VRBMA2.7z from this thread. I installed EzUnlocker and RomManager. I unlocked the phone, then flashed CWR. I first did a factory wipe/reset, I then flashed the MF1 firmware, followed by the ML1 radio, and finally Clean Rom 7.
Everything was fine except my 4G LTE would not turn on - 3G works fine but no 4G LTE. I've tried everything I could possibly think of. I've flashed to the prerooted MA2 linked above in Odin. I've tried the 2-3 suggestions in this thread, I've tried making my own APN settings, I've tried the thread which has links for people who are returning their phone to Verizon (plain jane stock). Nothing. All of those bring me the same result: Everything works perfectly fine, but the 4G LTE never shows up. It doesn't matter where I am - I know it is not a network outtage as people in the office have no issues and I always have a connection here and at home.
I've already ordered a new SIM card which should show up tomorrow but did I miss anything? I tried everything I could think of. As of right now I'm back at square one where I'd gone back to MA2, flashed MF1 + ML2 firmware, and back on Clean Rom 7. Stuck with 3G. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Just Odin flashed the VRALG1 4.0 ICS to bring it back to stock found here in Section 5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709. Still no luck.
Am I correct in saying when flashing that it is also flashing the modem/firmware? I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
I had the same problem not too long ago. My issue was the PRL usually 4G PRL starts with 15xxx but if you go into settings-->about phone-->status you should check to see whether it is a 15xxx or 3xxxx. If the latter a new sim card should fix it right up.

FYI a new SIM cleared it right up.
