Hi, my first post here.
My S3 went into sudden death some nights ago.
Had about 40% battery, no wifi, data or gps so it easy stay the night.
I rememer I woke up and saw the Galaxy-logo on the screen and in the morning the battery was dead
and were not able to charge it, the S3 freezes.
I had stock ROM but added superuser couple of months ago.
I hade also confirmed that it IS the motherboard since I switched it with another S3 and it started and the other S3 did not.
I am interested in getting some data back, contact, calender data and SMS's.
I have read the thread below, maybe it is possible to read out the databases of above, but how?
VolUp+Home and PowerOn do not work.
VolDown+Home and PowerOn I will get info downloading mode.
I tried some things in Odin, such as PIT and it returns that no PIT exists or something like that.
But how can I access the phone when it's "dead"?
Is it possible when in DL-mode access it with Linux-commands?

Hi, I have a g1 that has suddenly stopped working - when I start it I see the t-mobile screen and then it switches to the android screen and just stays like that and doesnt start.
It stalled while making a call and I was not able to restart it.
I have tried wiping everything from recovery console (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669) and re-flashing my phone with my old firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811620)
I don't know what's next here - can anyone please help?
some more background:
I had the phone for two years here in the US and have traveled out side of the country with it for several trips with no problems whatsoever, however, this phone I have given to my niece who doesnt live in the US.
The reason i'm saying this is that maybe the cause is a radio problem of some sort...
Let me know if you think of something coz I really don't know what do to next
Thanks,
e.
First of all, wrong section.. (Please post in Q&A)
If you had poked around and used the search feature, i'm pretty sure you can find what you are looking for
but anyhow, you need to flash another rom (via recovery) assuming you have already rooted because you somehow corrupted the system partition.
Thanks for the reply, I tried using cyanogen's mod but it didnt get me anywhere, I will try different mods but could this be a radio issue? is there a way to check that?
p.s. I did a thorough search of the forums and that's how i did all the things b4 posting but then I got stuck...
Hi, sorry I posted in the wrong section, just noticed what you mean.
Can any of the admins move this thread to q&a (or can I do it myself somehow)?
Data?

My friends phone is doing something extremely similar. He gave it to me to play with to make sure he wasn't mad, and it was actually the phone having issues.
Upon playing with it for a few hours problems started to occur. It would randomly shut off, then not want to reboot unless left sitting. It would get after the ROM screen and then shut off. I noticed that that a quick was to crash it was to start browsing the Internet over Wi-Fi. After a few pages loading and moving around the pages as they loaded the poor phone would just turn off.
Since he is using another phone in the mean time, I got his G1 without a SIM card. I was playing games on it, poking around in applications and more and the phone wouldn't turn off. I wasn't till I enabled Wi-Fi that problems started happening. I'm not sure if the Wi-Fi driver is part of the baseband unit or not but it seems that the more data the phone uses (3G or Wi-Fi) heightens its chance of turning off.
To get the phone to boot again I either have to take the battery our for a few minutes or leave it off for a while. Upon which time it will book as if nothing happens.
I also noted that every time it boots it shows an exception error related to "gapps" and you have to click force quit. His phone is running CyanogenMod 4.2. Also the Home key doesn't function, but this is software related because it can turn the screen on.

Gang, the subject line pretty much says it all.
I restored a backed-up image from CWM several weeks ago and it had been working fine, but last night I started getting all these pop-ups like "Logging service has crashed," "Facebook has crashed," etc. Didn't matter how many times I tapped "cancel," it just kept coming back - essentially rendering the phone useless.
This morning I went back into CWM, fixed permissions, cleared all the caches, etc. Same problem.
So I restored the same backup from a few weeks ago, but now the phone sits at the initial Samsung screen and never gets past that.
I'm travelling for work right now and mainly use wifi calling and the alarm clock... my internet access is pretty slow and I don't have HOC one my laptop - unsure as to whether I could successfully DL anything bigger than about 2MB. lol
Any suggestions?
Okay, I appreciate that 65 people have read this and that it's also possibly a challenging one.
Related: where does CWM store its backups? On the SD card, or somewhere else? Can I wipe /system or will I lose the backup I'm trying to restore? Or is that in /data or somewhere else?
Thanks again!

Hm. Might be soft-bricked because I can't even get into recovery.
Now to test the internets here and see if I can DL HOC... fingers crossed would be an understatement.

I think heimdall is your only way out of this one. Good luck man
First time poster, I apologize if this post is a mess.
I recently dropped my Droid Charge down a flight of stairs. The phone itself still seems to work - I can boot it up, it plays all the proper sounds, and my 7pm alarm even went off today (hadn't had it on to test that before), but the screen is completely dead.
I've already upgraded to a Galaxy Note 3. I had a backup with SMS Backup & Restore from April; same for my Checkbook app - these are the two apps I'm most concerned about. I'd like to get the additional data since April 22.
My Charge is rooted, though I got a lot of walkthrough to do it - I also did the root over two years ago.
I have these links in the chatlog with the friend who helped me root, if that helps at all:

Problem: USB debugging was turned off when I dropped the phone. I didn't know any better until I'd already broken the screen. I've tried MoboRobo, MyPhoneExplorer, and Samsung Kies, and nobody sees the phone. It beeps when plugged in, and with Kies the hard keys light up about ten-twenty seconds later, but that's the furthest I've gotten.
I'm willing to boot to recovery and use adb/command prompt/whatever, but I can only find these instructions for other phones, and I'm worried that if I use the wrong phone's menu instructions I'll end up wiping it instead of booting to recovery. I'm also not too clear on if ADB is a different build for different phones... this is my first time doing this.
I don't have a mini-HDMI cable but if that's the better solution I'll get my hands on one.
Any help is appreciated, thank you!
Got my note back in November, rooted through odin in December. Everythings been grand and perfect.
Till I watched a video on youtube 2-3mnths ago about good rooted apps (wanted to get more daring other than xposed) loaded gsm gestures app? I think was the name. Kept it for a week, didnt use it. Uninstalled it, phone rebooted, instead of the normal "app uninstalled"
After that my phones been laggy, freezes, and freezes and turns off. Its factory wiped itself 8 times. I have countless posts on Reddit timelining everything. Long short is, tried liquid smooth to see if that would fix my problem, lost text messaging with that could only text for an hr a day, flashed stock sprint firmware and rerooted afterwards, have been slow to reload apps on phone, incase of factory reset or whatever. my phone is now taking 75+ batter pulls to get into a normal boot, every 15bat pulls it jumps into download mode "could not do normal boot ddi_mms read fail" and now an ssl text ive only seen once today, ill try and write that down if it happens again.
Finally when I get back into my phone, sometimes I have to update prl to get service again, the other day my phone lost signal and all my network settings were unselected, I had to select them all and my phone was fine, then I was on the phone and it cut me out in the middle of a call and said roaming lost or something, and I had to reapply cdma/lte on sprint.
Im beyond frustrated, im getting married in 2 weeks, and going out of country immediately after, so I need a working phone as most my business is conducted through it. I have no upgrade on sprint, and cant afford to throw out 400$ for a "new" note 4
Please please please someone help me.
Thanks for your time.
Matt
Hi,
Here's a thread on returning to stock firmware. That should give you a fresh start,

If you want to find other options, you could ask for other ideas in your device section here,

Good luck!
Folks,
During a recent power outage my battery completely drained for the first time. Powering on after a full charge, started getting screen msgs (yellow text) info on some system internals. tried rebooting, and got "failure to load efs". and the phone comes back up in Factory test mode. I had never attempted any modification on this phone and everything looked stock to me. I had bought used from B&H, so cannot swear to its complete history. Samsung recommended a "smart Recovery from Best Buy that after two swap-outs i am still getting all the above msg's. I have no experience in rooting or anything else, but have a background in software. Info found through searches seems to indicate Verizon Samsung sg3's may be the most difficult to add mods. I found a stock rom, and loaded it successfully via odin. Best Buy guy said he loaded an original stock as well, and still no luck. Even though this happened after a hardware issue, and i know its firmware, at a loss as to what is causing this. it generally degrades performance of the phone in everything, including linking to playstore to download apps. I have everything backed up, with nothing to lose if anyone has a path to a working phone....I'm game. running 4.4.2
