i found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903125 as a guide to root 2011 xperia. I have 2012 ray st18i running 4.0.4 -- .587. can i root my phone using the method in the above link? or do i need to unlock the bootloader officially and then root the device?

I have installed this ([ROM][UB][AOSP 4.4.2] Xperia U AOSX ROM) rom on my xperia u and its updated to 13th April. My phone is not rooted but it has a unlocked bootloader. How can i root it? i have tried all most all the methods. Can any one give me the full proof method on this rom with complete procedure.
