Hello, I recently received an AT&T One X and the very first thing I did with it was try to root it and all that fun stuff. After a long adventure I couldn't get the HBOOT to upgrade so I had changed the CID to HTC__001 from cws_001 (I couldn't find this CID anywhere, but I swear that's what it said) and then the bootloader was re-locked. There is no OS, there is no recovery, I've tried 10 RUU's from Asia WWE to the UK RUU's and than all the AT&T ones I can find.
Most fastboot commands come back with a "Too many Links" error which I assume is from the bootloader being locked, and I cant change the bootloader's status because the bin file I got is for the supercid.
Please help me, I am usually quite proficient with this type of stuff but I really buried myself in a hole.
Why were you trying to upgrade your hboot..? Anyways.. What hboot do you have now? Is your Cid still htc__001?

Re
My HBOOT is 1.14.0002. I tried to upgrade it for all the newer roms and such but thats when I managed to screw everything up. Yes, it is still HTC__001 and that is the international. I've tried several WWE RUU's and all refuse to work giving me various errors..
Yeah no ruu will work because you have an international cid with an at&t phone.
You'll need to htcdev over again and pray it works.

I already unlocked the bootloader, It just wont let me do anything anymore... All fastboot commands are giving me either unknown errors or too many link errors.
I just dont understand why I cant change the CID anymore! The bootloader is unlocked so i should just be able to use fastboot..

You can only change the cid once with fastboot oem writecid unless you are s-off
As for fastboot not working. Are you able to flash recovery?

Flash a stock-based ICS rom and then S-OFF, then you can change your cid, or whattever you need to do
Doesn't necessarily need to be ics but yeah you get the idea. After s-off then you can ruu to update your hboot and anything else that gets updates. Bear in mind that on aosp ROMs the touchscreen won't work after you upgrade until you downgrade the touchscreen firmware.

Don't you still need supercid to s-off? Or is that no longer a requirement?
Never tried with am international or cid from another carrier.. Maybe it'll work? If not he can always hex edit his cid.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Thank you for the replies, the link to the Hex editing of the CID saved me. I knew that's where the CID was located but I didn't know you could dd it out of the system. By the way, I was having hard times trying to flash CM9 on there and it didn't work, neither did viper roms so I was greatly discouraged. By the way, I have no earthly clue on how to S-OFF the One X so I will probably try to look harder for that. I'm probably going to either RUU to where I was, I believe 2.2 or put on.. some rom that sounds good. Any favorites? Y'all say I can flash ICS to it if I just flash the boot.img first right? I thought that the partition sizes would cause a conflict.. Oh well, I'll give it a try

You should be able to flash any rom so long as you fastboot flash the boot.img ics or jb.
A million thanks, well, I thanked you once, that should suffice. I'm almost set now, for a second I thought the phone would be a goner.
If you can get to bootloader your phone can be saved. Good luck, have fun.

so i unlocked my device via HTCDev.com thinking since its htc device and all they said was i had to unlock bootloader to flash custon OS's i already knew about S-OFF but being the site didn't talk about it(why would it) i went and flash virtouous ROM and got stuck at the HTC screen. i wasnt thinking so i never backed up the stock HTC Rom!!
now i tried 2 of those RUU's in the shipped rom thread the tmous ones with 29 and 50 both saying wrong version.
my question here is there anyway to get at least one RUU to work or get s-off from HBOOT?
my reason of doing this after going back to completely stock is i cant wait any longer for HTC/Tmobile to get us ICS so i tried the custom way and failed lol
I am sure unless you super SID you will have to find ROMs specific for the country the phone came from.
Eg my phone was from Asia region and I could not flash Euro ROMs
ok from the Shipped rom thread in the dev section for the sensation i was trying to go back to stock to gain s-off but the tmous(USA) which is where i am from said wrong version.

What h boot version do you have?

Hboot: 1.18.0000
Check your CID using fastboot getvar cid to see if these still match the ROM you were trying to flash.
says for cid is t-mob010
i guess out of the 2 stock ruu"s from the post doesnt match that?
edit: ok from what i learned in another post i opened up the rom.zip file and looked at android-info.txt both the cid and mid matched my phones from the RUU file "RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed" buuuuttttt it tried to update it but fails saying i need to correct version :\

Yes i am. the 2 Ruu's i am using seem to have matching info to my phone when i went to get the rom.zip it uses to send to my phone and looked in the android-info.txt but tell me to get the correct RUU and try again. i got the from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 under the tmous RUU one with 29 and the other 50.
so i am just stuck at the white screen with the word HTC. if i could get s-off and SuperCID through fastboot that would be awesome but googling it shows up that i cant s-off via fastboot ughhh
still no luck cant seem to flash anything without s-off or supercid
so looks like i am jumping the boat going to sprint this thursday and geting the iphone 4s...byebye android
If you can get into fastboot you should be able to flash RUU from there. Just download the RUU.exe and run it as administrator. Follow the prompts in the exe program while your phone is in fastboot mode.

Maybe iCrap is better for you. When you use Android phones and want to complete unlock them for flashing customroms aso you shoud realy learn to read before you do something. I hate it when people are not able to read about the stuff they want to do and when something goes wrong they blaim Android for it.
To get s-off, super CID and root on a HTC Android device is realy easy if you read the how-to threads and normaly takes about 15 minutes.
Have fun with your iCrap 4S and please don't try to jailbreak it before you read some stuff.

first off let me say i have rooted and flashed roms on my sensation before just fine. i was unlocking via htcdev.com and figured their method didnt require s-off since it didnt say anything about it. it just talked about unlocking it to put customs os's on it. 2nd i always had a love hate thing for IOS since i had the 3G and ipod touch.
far as using the RUU'ss it tells me i need the correct Ruu version or something like that. maybe because i didnt run as admin but i have all that stuff turned off due to the theme i used for windows 7 required it off.
If I were you I would Super CID your device. That is what I had to do. A great guide that I used was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
i tried and i get this error

You can recover this. Firstly read this guide, regarding downgrading hboot and getting s-off.

The problems are due to HTC.dev not unlocking all parts of the boot loader - you can't flash radio.img or boot.img so nothing is working.

Hi
Does anybody know where i can find One S (S4) odex stock roms for tmobile. Basically i can't get ota updates and i think my problem is that my current stock rom is deodex.
none of the develops in the One S community wants to make it.. dont know why....
the closest u get is the nandroid in the dev section.. thats what im running now...
Why not run a RUU from the Shipped ROMs thread in development section
I'd like it too actually. I tried flashing stock recovery and relocking my bootloader, but out still said tampered and still couldn't flash an ruu... I'm hoping getting all stock could help with that.
There are no RUU's for tmobile uk sadly, so i need to super cid my phone to get the international version. Also i dont know how to super cid
I found another version of the RUU for TMOUS so I'll try that in the near future and see what happens.
Because the cramp just won't go away!
Does anybody have a stock nandroid for tmobile UK?

If you read the posts it says there isn't one. Just to verify I looked and I didn't see one either.
Also, after going into fastboot and flashing stock recovery I did
Code:
fastboot OEM lock
My phone rebooted I did it again and flashed the latest RUU for my phone which was TMOUS 1.84 or something like that.
That seemed to work. Now running android 4.0.4.

I'm assuming your a tmobile UK user due to your post. I'm not really familiar as to what to do with your situation as I've never dealt with UK RUU Issues. I would assume you probably can't use any of the RUUs from anywhere else. You would think T-Mobile would have an international one out. I would probably not risk damaging your device using other carriers unless someone tells you it works. I don't see why trying a tmous RUU would harm you though. There are two versions of it out a 1.54 and 1.84 I believe. I don't know what effect itll have on your phone though so don't blame me if it bricks if you try.
Ive got a huge problem I supercid my phone last night and after that I couldn't call or text anyone as well as recieve. I even unsupercid my phone and back to the original HTC__001 cid. So can anyone give me a solution. Btw I relocked my bootloader and ran the European RUU and it worked

No no this happened due to me trying to super cid. I just did the ruu right now. I think I need to flash a radio but not sure how to
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
That's possible I suppose. Here is how.
After flashing your device properly, start it up and let everything run a few minutes so the ROM can get settled in, I assume you've done that already.
Next you download the radio image you need, I'm not sure which it is I don't know what your running.
Then reboot to fast boot.
Enter
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.IMG
Then reboot your phone with
Code:
fastboot reboot
Or you can do it through a menu on the device.
Then you should have your radio set.
Someone please correct if anything is wrong.

I currently have S-ON with SuperCID, and I'm trying to get S-OFF with stock AT&T CID. I've heard that it's a fairly simple process to change the CID ("fastboot oem writecid HTC_001"), but HTC_001 is for the unbranded international version, and I'm having a hard time finding the code for the AT&T version, which I suppose I failed to write down before overwriting with SuperCID. Hope someone can help? Also, should I be s-ON or S-OFF to write the CID?

You can only S-OFF with super CID 11111111
After S-OFF you can write it back to the default of CWS__001 for AT&T, but there is no advantage to doing so. You can do whatever you like regardless of what your CID is after S-OFF. I set mine to R00T_001 after for example. (must be 8 characters)
Just noticed your other thread and see why you want the default CID. If you're selling it, make sure your cid is currently 11111111 then S-OFF then you can use that command to change the cid to default. If you're going to sell it, after S-OFF, I'd just format the SD card and run the 3.18 RUU and then power it off after so the person you sell it to will have a fresh start.

From what I understand, CID can be changed once from SuperCID to something else, without s-off.
The OP wants to sell his phone, per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251955
I suggested either changing from SuperCID, or achieving S-off, so the next owner doesn't unintentionally brick the phone by trying to install the 3.18 OTA or RUU (since he is currently SuperCID and S-on).
Not sure why he started this thread, I would have just answered the AT&T CID question in the other thread.

Sorry, the other thread was started because I couldn't turn my phone on, and was becoming unrelated to original post, thought it would be prudent to create a new thread. Really appreciate your help though.
Just a heads up, I bricked my first TELUS HOXL eventhough I had changed my CID back to the default prior to RUUing. May have been a fluke but yeah do with this info what you will.
UGGGHHH, this is getting frustrating...had to root the phone to get to S-OFF, so I used the X-FACTOR exploit, but when I tried to get S-OFF (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071) I got the first 2 adb command off but the second one said it couldn't find 'su' so I assumed to root hadn't worked. So I decided it would just be easiest to go back to CyanogenMod and start the whole process over. Only when I tried to unlock the bootloader again, I found that it wouldn't stick. It would SAY it was successful and reboot the phone, but when I would reboot to bootloader it would say "relocked". SO decided to run an RUU, only now the hboot was up to 2.14 from the S-OFF flashing, so I decided to run the 3.15 RUU instead of the 2.20, and that SEEMED to work fine, except that now I'm right back to where I was with not being able to turn the phone on, and I tried my previous trick of the Vol Down + Power...
EDIT: Aaaand, no LED when charging...

I've flashed probably hundreds of roms to my device and I'm wondering if it can cause issues with wifi performance and performance in general. Ive noticed my wifi acting weird lately and have seen a couple posts about running an ruu to fix problems like this.
Im on hboot 1.09, bootloader unlocked, s-off, currently on the sense 5 2.5 ROM.
Am I all good if I do an ruu with the 3.17 ruu posted in the one xl resources thread? Is this the best one to flash if I decide to? Will this upgrade my hboot? If so, does that improve performance/fix issues at all?

an RUU can clean things up. If you've dirty flashed a lot, then things can get a bit "dirty" and not work the way they should.
I personally run and RUU about every 3-4 months just because I'm anal like that and I like my phone to work the way an OCD person on speed would(perfect and fast as hell).
Since you're and hboot 1.09, I would run the 1.85 RUU. Link can be found in Redpoint's resource thread. But since you're s-off, it essentially wouldn't matter which RUU you ran.

Cool, thanks for the info. Would running a newer ruu do anything beneficial or does it not matter if I plan on using a custom ROM?
Becareful, from my knowledge, you are on a rootable firmware(hboot) if you RUU something like, 4.1.1 you could possibly screw up any chances for root.
Oh, and to do RUU you might need bootloader relocked.

hmmm not sure what the issue is now, I tried to run the 1.85 ruu and the 2.20 ruu and neither worked.
I tried on cleanrom 6.5, viper 3.27 and sense 5 2.5. When i run the RUU exe's i received error 170 (usb connection error) the first couple tries, now i keep receiving error 120 (low main battery, less than 30%) which is incorrect, i am fully charged.
any help?
Try a combination of different usb ports and cables.

I still cant get the RUU to work, i keep getting errors 120 and and 170. Tried all 6 USB ports on my PC with two different cables.
Is there a different way I can do the RUU? Flash through fastboot or something?

Plug the phone while in fastboot mode, and in cmd/terminal rule in:
Fastboot bootRUU or fastboot boot RUU
this will put it in HTC RUU download mode.
try it then.

Lol sorry for me trying to help !
Then again i never had problems with flashing/rooting i only wonder.
It's great he got it fixed anyways.
okay guys ive never had to do anything with the htc one s before but just recently a friend of mine wanted help putting his phone back to stock (by using a ruu) the thing is I have no idea how a ruu works. The version he has is red and black and its the international unlock variant, the thing is i read in one tutorial that said it doesnt matter what ruu you use if you are s-off or super cid it happens I am both the phone is s-off and the cid reads 11111111 (not sure on the amount of 1s but a bunch), thing is when i went to run the ruu it asked for permission to run and then just kinda killed its self by which i mean the task disappeared and thats about it. If any of you could give me a working link to all the files i need for this it would be great ive been pulling my hair out over this thanks in advance
I'm not an expert, but I guess you have to relock the boolader before running a stock ruu on the HTC One S
Look in the Dev sections, there is plenty of post talking about how to do that.
Good luck!

Change your CID to HTC__001 then run following RUU again.
Yes, I also think that the RUU you downloaded doesn't match your phone's CID. Either change your CID or find the right RUU for your CID.
hope it helps
Cheers.

If you are having problem to run RUU double check your windows compatibility and the update utility if downloaded properly.
Let us know if you see any error msg.
