[APP][2.1+]Virtual Wheel Beta 0.2 - Android Apps and Games

Hi Everyone,
This is the first app that I've publish, so any constructive criticisms are welcome.
Vritual Wheel:
This app allows you to use your android device as a wireless steering wheel to control racing/driving games on your PC.
Your android device and computer must be on the same network for this to work (meaning same router/switch).
This app currently works with both 32 and 64 bit Windows.
Installation and usage instructions are in the app description on the Play market.
Link:
Please leave me some feedbacks in this thread on what you like and what you don't like. Also what you want (other than the planned features) and any bugs (please also tell me what device and version of Android you are running).
Code:
Changelog:
[B]v0.1:[/B]
Initial Release
[B]v0.2:[/B]
Added steering angle adjustments and deadzone.
Added 64 bit support.
Thank You

id noticed your post on lfs forum earlier on so downloaded it, il be going on lfs soon so will give this a try and leave feedback

Thanks. My computer's graphics card just died on me yesterday, so I won't be able to do much development. Going to take about 3 days for the new GPU to come in. I plan to implement adjustable steering angle, calibration, and hopefully bluetooth communication in the next update. 64-bit is a bit harder than I thought, so that is currently delayed.

It's a fantastic app from what I can see. I'm using a 64bit pc so I'm eagerly awaiting the 64 bit release!
EDIT: Is there anyway to run it on a 64 bit pc as a 32 bit app or something? Like "Compatability mode" etc?

Unfortunately no. The 64 bit support has to do with the driver. Currently, I estimate about 1-2 weeks before I can get the 64 bit support working. So hang in there, it's coming

Ok, finally got my GPU. Just compiled the 64bit drivers, and tested to be working fine. All I have to do now is implement them into the installation package. 64 bit coming this weekend

good to hear, im on a 64 bit machine so would find these useful, i look forward to testing it on live for speed,

v0.2
Added steering angle adjustments and deadzone
Also added 64-bit support (I am still learning Windows Driver Development, so the implementation is not very efficient and clean. Hopefully I will be able to design a clean custom driver for both 32 and 64 bit within the next month)

Wow this is a sweet idea

How to make this app works with City Car Driving or Need For Speed Underground 2?
Would you give a way to configure it on PC (in games)?
Thanks...

I can confirm this works with the HTC One X and Saints Row 2, I'll check out some other games the coming days if I have time.
Really awesome development!
Two things didn't go very smooth though:
- installing the unsigned driver
- figuring out the correct axis and buttons
The first is a tough nut probably, but the latter could be solved by adding a help option in settings that shows the button map.
Idea's for further development:
- autolaunch the program with Windows, to the system tray
- autosearching from the app for running servers on the network (check out Unified Remote's implementation)
- choosing to use the two center buttons or using that as a touch area (for camera control)
- hook the volume buttons as shoulder buttons!
- allow custom layouts (maybe only colors and texts, but that would be cool to accomodate other games)

The PC client keeps failing when I start android app, I assume while connecting to PC.

This application must have a "Prevent Screen to Turn Off"

Use with Linux? Flightgear, etc.
There are numerous apps to keep screen on. Can use Xposed, appsettings module.

Getting the same error here. And one other thing - when I type the IP Address, which the program is showing me, i get absolutely no connection, but as soon as I enter my correct LAN IP Address, things get to the 'stopped responding' thingy...

hello ..! I wanted to install the file. exe of this application on my PC with windows 7 32bit and I have the following problem ..!
and also attached the LOG installation gives me the program ..!

I had a driver issue here, but I attempted a fix and I think it worked, VWheel device driver is now successfully installed, but still app is hanging in Windows when I open simultaneously Virtual Wheel in phone and on PC(As soon as it connects, it brakes down). Also, I can see that 32bit users are installing v0.3, im on x64 here, first tried installing program from the main link in GooglePlayStore, but it wasn't successful, so I saw that there is a 64-bit version, which is reporting v0.2a ?

Do I need Wi-Fi connection or I can just turn-on my Laptop wi-fi and my Xperia S wi-fi to use this?
P.S: I don't have Wi-Fi, I use Modem to connect to internet.

You have to have a Local Network e.g. a Router, only enabling Wi-Fi on your PC and Phone is not going to work but I think there were a few programs that might help you create a network between your laptop and your phone. Google for Wi-Fi Hotspot or something and search the results for the program that suits you best. Good luck. Im still stuck here with program crashing when I setup everything right. Dunno why also as I mentioned earlier, program reports wrong PC IP Address, check for solution on that also.
Error code: CLR20r3, tried all the fixes I could find in the web, no success... OP, try researching why this problem may occur and at least let me know cuz I'm struggling from 3 hours to fix this and get it up and running Admirations on your work too

[APP][2.1+] Ultimate Control 1.0

This program allows you to control your mouse and keyboard from your android device via Wifi or Bluetooth. You need a server program on your computer and it is available for windows, mac and linux.
The connection process is very simple, just discover all the server available and select one to control (no IPs or any technical stuff). Plus, the app is pretty configurable, button layout, mouse sensitivity... and it also has some cool features like setting a password that will be asked for when establishing the connection.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.negusoft.ucontrol
Enjoy and post comments !!!
Great app
I just tryed it and it is great man! thanks!
No dealing with IP address or anything. Just select your computer and go. It is so smooth, plus I like the fact that you can protect your computer with a password.
10 out of 10
Linux support
Good news!! It is now compatible with linux. You can download the server from theire web. And it works perfectly in my Ubuntu.
By the way, the programs version is already 0.9.2, you may want to update the post ;p
The thread is updated now, I also mention the linux compatibility (although I didn't test it yet). What distribution are you using? I would like to give it a try.
Cheers
I tryed it in Ubuntu 11. I had a little issue though, it didn't work on my laptop. I asked the developers and they told me that it doesn't currently support the 64bit architecture. They appear to be working on a version that will work though. Judging by theire release frequency, it will be available very soon
Installation
Hello,
I was trying to install it on Ubuntu 11 too. I run the "install" file but nothing seems to happen. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Well, my first advice would be that you read the "readme.txt". Everything is explained there. Basically, make sure you have Java installed.
Thanks, I followed the instructions in the readme file and I make it work without problems. And it works like a charm!!!!
And by the way, does anybody know if it is possible to make a direct connection with Wifi (without connectiong to a network) ?
I guess if you create a point to point wifi connection it would work. But why would you want to do that? For this scenarion, you would just use bluetooth.
Hey, when I connect through bluetooth, it doesn't ask me for the password even if I have it activated. Is it normal? Does that happen to someone else?
Great work!
I personally think it is how it should work. Through bluetooth, you have to pair your device so there is a security system already. The why to bother entering additional passwords?
I believe the developers had the same conclusions when implementing the security system.

Thanks for pointing it out.
Wow, it is certainly better than others I have tryed, such as gmote, remote trackpad or advanced touchpad...
Great job!
They really keep updating the app. And they bring some new little stuff in each release. I hope they keep up the good work.

New version available! I updated the main post already.
They added an optional scroll-bar. And the best thing, they fixed some clicking bugs or something, witch means it will now runs perfectly on my Galaxy Tab (the original)!

[APP][2.3.3-4.1][ROOT] BlueCtrl - Bluetooth input device emulator

*** REQUIRES ROOT PERMISSIONS ***
*** NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID 4.2 ***
BlueCtrl is an open source Bluetooth input device emulator that can control remote devices. This means that you can use the touchscreen and keyboard of your Android device to control other devices which support Bluetooth.
Because this app is using the Bluetooth input standard, it supports various operating systems without any special server software. It has been successfully tested with the following systems:
Android
iOS
Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu...)
Mac OS X
PlayStation 3
Windows
Please note that if you want to use this app with Microsoft Windows, you probably need to disable a conflicting Android service. For more information look at:
https://github.com/RonsDev/BlueCtrl/wiki/Bluetooth-input-service-conflict
This app requires root permissions because it needs direct access to the Bluetooth adapter. Another restriction is that it is only compatible with a specific Bluetooth stack that is called BlueZ, which is used on many but not all devices with a Android version smaller 4.2.
What's new
New system specific touchpad gestures
The gestures are now optimized for the chosen remote device system. Linux and Windows systems also got a new setting for the gesture mode. So, for example, if you are using Windows 8 you can configure the appropriate gesture mode to enable the special Windows 8 edge gestures.
New interactive touchpad tutorial
The interactive tutorial will explain all gestures for the current system and can be activated via the menu.
New menu item for composing text
This is especially helpful if you want to write a longer text because you can keep your eyes on the device and see what you write and it also allows you to correct the text before it is send.
Voice input can be corrected before sending
Voice input will be displayed in a edit box before it is send so that you are able to correct misinterpreted words.
New "Stay awake" setting
This setting prevents that the device is going into standby and disconnects the connection. To save some energy the screen will however be dimmed after 30 seconds of inactivity.
New "Scroll sensitivity" setting
You can long press the keyboard button to change the input method

Hey,
This app sounds great, running a rooted SGS2 running XXLPB ICS (4.0.3). Have installed and all appears fine, trying to manipulate my PS3 with it nothing happens... Does it only work for custom OSs on PS3? or does it work with the standard PS3 'XMB'?
Cheers
P.s. I realise that I have used a very large amount of acronyms... many apologies, but I estimate to have saved myself a small age in not writing them all out!
Works well ! Thanks for this apk.
I try it with another android device and it runs.

Could you send me the log message of the error?
What IDE do you use to build this app? I'm new to Android and so far I've just used Eclipse. In your source code I didn't see gen folder with R class.
I also met problem when connecting two devices (two Android phones). after paring, I pressed "connect" button then I received a message "Connection refused. The remote device is busy or the devices aren't correctly paired".
Is there a phase to enter the key used to pair two devices? If yes, I didn't see that phase.

The app is build with the Ant build tool on the command line (see the README) but I use Eclipse to develop the Java code. The gen folder will be automatically generated if you build the project.

Before you press the “connect” button you should wait a little until the other device shows that the devices are paired (sometimes the “connect” button is enabled too early because Android reports that the devices are paired even if the pairing process hasn't finished yet). Before that you should normally see a pairing request dialog or notification where you enter or confirm the key.
Thaks alot
Out of all the applications o the market yours is the only one that works on all systems. If you want to post a donation version on the android market I'll gladly donate to help you improve your work.

Have you seen the "More information" part on the "Add device" screen and followed the instructions?
2 finger swipe left worked for the Android Home
And I got connected to my iOS device but no pointer (not your fault, **** iOS fault). Thanks man, really helped me with my Mac, great app!
Btstack
hi guys! great app! I wish I could use it! lol Actually... just tried it on my macbook pro... works great!
Okay so you say it can connect to iOS but no pointer? But the BTstack tweak in cydia is supposed to solve that issue.
However I can't connect to my ipad 2. here's what I sent to the developer of BTstack mouse:
"Hi, I've tried to find a solution for a while now, but to no avail. I go to connect the mouse and it just sits on the "mouse selector" page.
I have an ipad 2 (wifi only) (not the ipad2,4 either) jailbroken ios 5.1.1
Everytime I try to pair. it wont. Then the app blacks out and freezes my ipad. I'm then forced to do a hard reboot."
now... your app warns me that another Bluetooth input service is active on my device T-MOBILE HTC G2 cyanogen mod 7.
I click the link to read more info, but it doesn't really help me out. I would love an answer. maybe a how-to only have one bluetooth input service running on the G2 at a time? I really want to use my phone as a mouse, I already have an apple wireless keyboard that I use with my ipad a lot and would love the addition of a mouse. (I'm currently NOT trying to pair both at the same time.. fyi)
So if someone could help me out, this could be a big step in bridging the gap between ios and android and getting them to actually play nice together.
Thank you for your time!
Hi I had a g2 and I kinda have a ipad 2 and it worked flawlessly. What works is don't try to connect them from outside the app.
And if you need more in-depth help just ask

Working! ICS 4.0.3 on my dell d430 laptop

Hi everyone,
just wanted to make a quick post, mainly to share my excitement.
after wondering over to the android-x86 project page and having a bit of a read i thought i would give it a go on my little dell laptop. for those not familiar with the project they have developed techniques and files for installing android os on x86 laptop and computers.
anyway, it works perfectly. well 99% perfectly. mouse pad scroll doesn't work yet, for me, its only been a day, i may be able to work it out yet. maybe.
tested and working on this laptop are:
wifi
keyboard
mouse pad (excluding scrolling)
battery icon shows battery drain and charging icon
(its a basic laptop, that's almost the entire list of features haha)
not working so far:
mouse pad scrolling
Not tested:
bluetooth
external data storage (usb hdd/sd card etc)
usb accessories (keyboard/mouse/cd drive etc)
display output (this laptop has vga output)
physical network connection via cable
phone line connection (does anyone use these anymore???)
firewire
headphone and mic ports
Apps used so far:
Dolphin HD
Stock browser
google maps
gmail
zeam launcher
panda laucher
The play store does not work for downloading apps. you can log in and view installed and previously downloaded apps, manage your account etc but you will get an error with downloading. ( for those concerned the errors encountered include 921 and 101 so far)
all widgets tried so far are working too and live wallpapers...not sure why they wouldnt work...but they do anyway.
I had always joked about my little laptop having the same specs as a mobile phone, so I think its pretty funny it now has a mobile OS running.
I have it currently configured to dual boot alongside windows 7 and both are getting along nicely on the same laptop.
anyone else on the forums here played with this? I did search around but didn't find much relating to android on laptops and my dell d430 wasn't listed in the device section haha.
if anyone can suggest a more appropriate place for this post i would be happy to repost somewhere else.
please also feel free to post questions including but not limited to the standard "why would you want to do this!?" and "what's the point?"
conclusion:
i may just use this as a daily os....all i ever used this laptop for was backpack sized internet access and media entertainment and it does that much easier on android now.
Another thing I loved was that when installing windows (a one million hour affair typically) you then had to install acres of drivers (the technical measurement of the amount of drivers required to get everything working on windows), HOWEVER on android, everything worked out of the box so to speak. wifi and all.
if this catches on and gains a decent level of tech support for those less capable this could be a great opportunity to keep everyone's ageing tech in the game.
Niceeeeeee, i give it a try
I'm using a Acer laptop with this version and I don't have any problem with the Play Store...

Which iso file did you used for the pc (I mean Asus, Lenovo, Hp).
Can you also give me some hints on how to create the boot disc and how to get in the boot mode and what to do next.
first thing i thought was man, you're gonna need to edit a word doc or something and be screwed. but i see your dual booting so i guess it makes sense. whats the boot up time like?

For me boot time is unDer 20 seconds into windoes and under 15 into android, but I've got a SSD hd and made a few tweaks to the bios.
As far as usability goes, androids definitely a touch orientated OS so it's a bit cumbersome with the touchpad ... I did however spot a touch panel for the screen for cheap on eBay....

[2.1+] MissingLink - cross platform file sharing/synching and device remote control

Hi all!
So I've been working on an app in my spare time on & off for about 2 years and have finally put it up on the play store. I'm looking for opinions about it, as after building it for so long I've most likely got severe tunnel vision and wouldn't know what's intuitive and what's not to a new user!
What does it do?
Remote control your PC (mouse, keyboard, media buttons)
Copy files to & from your PC or other Android devices
Sync files automatically
Share clipboard data between devices
Open URLs and files (eg music, video) on remote devices
Supports sleep and wake-on-lan of devices
Why? There are similar apps already!
I wrote it out of frustration with the available options for "inter-connectivity" between my devices. I use a HTPC to watch movies and wanted a remote app to control the HTPC (remote mouse, play/pause/volume). There are many existing such apps but I didn't like what's out there:
Are complicated with separate "remotes" for each app that you have to juggle between, etc
They don't behave like a keyboard & mouse, but have special buttons to learn
They often require Java on the PC
Can be slow
I wanted much more than just a remote control app if I'm going to have a "server" running on my PC...
If you want remote clipboard sharing, file transfers, etc, you have ot install separate servers for each app on your PC... I thought I could do better, and you only need 1 "server" on the PC to do all of the above.
Finally, I wrote it to be peer-to-peer. This means that your PC isn't really a "server", for example, you can transfer files/open URLs Android-Android without a PC being present. One such case is when I'm often reading a webpage and open the link on my wifes tablet so she can check it out too!
It's also cross-platform. The same core bit compiles on pretty much anything, but so far I've only released the Android and Windows ports, as they're the ones that I've tested the most. Coming soon will be OSX, Linux and iOS last (I HATE objective-C syntax!)
I've got heaps of other features which I want to add, to build this into the ultimate way to make your devices cooperate... but with the existing features I thought it's time to release it & see what others think!
How can I download it?
The app is called MissingLink (one word, if you want to search for it on the play store). Or the direct link is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peaklabs.missinglink
The Windows version is available on my site at:
http://www.peaklabs.net/apps/missing-link/download/
Quit blabbing
Ok If you have time please give it a shot and let me know what you think! It has a trial as synching is a paid feature, but if you want I can reset your trial! Just message me.
Just hoping to get some feedback as I continue building it! Thanks heaps!
Oh and if you have any features you think might come in handy, please let me know! I'm sure there's so much that could be done with our devices that find each other and are connected via TCP/IP that isn't being done yet

Hi! Glad you found it useful
It's free, but you can upgrade to pro from the app - currently only file synching and PC shutdown/restart requires "pro"! I think as I add features in the future they'll most likely end up being part of the "pro" upgrade.

Certainly will! That's the next OS I'm going for actually.
Just wondering, what would you need it for - Android->MAC remote, or also due to file transfers? Some people have trouble with setting up windows shares between windows & OSX, and ML can be a replacement for that between win & osx too... Just wondering how you'd use it, as my wife is an OSX using photographer and I'm always annoyed by her backup needs with her weird (to me) file systems
I can completely understand about the shortcomings of the 'current' offerings, Sounds like ML is exactly what I've been missing for years.. (Wish I had something like this since I had my first android phone, to be honest).. Too bad I killed the battery in my tablet, but I'll be sure to test it out as soon as the tablet's charged and the phone is re-flashed.
Thank you
Hi. I've installed the app on my phone and Nexus 7. The Windows app is not playing at the moment. I keep getting a path error. Will report back tomorrow (it's late here), This could be really valuable. Thanks for your efforts. John
great work. this is what i waiting for
force close on kitkat
First time starting it gives an FC, after that it wont FC anymore, haven't recorded the logcat though. just saying
Working perfect on my Nexus 5. You sir are a genius. Very smooth and no-brainer install and usage. As matter of fact I typed this from the app itself :good:
Edit: I didn't like the icon so i made one for my use, but why not share it?
FC at startup with CM11 on ART
EDIT: second startup worked perfectly
Awesome. I think the icon above looks nicer, but apart from that, nothing much to say. Maybe try using different colours, maybe white instead of green would improve readability. Thumbs up
i'd love to have something like this for mac. as it stands android file transfer is not a great solution and i prefer just to adb push/pull things instead of using that.
hope there is a mac version soon!
Looking for the Linux version.
Once it's out, this will be my app.
I'm currently using a bunch of soft for the same things
- explorer ES for smb exploration
- Pushbullet for sharing pastes
- pydio for remote file access
- airdroid for some file exchanges
However some of these apps also works over mobile data and not only Wifi.

I'm not sure, but the previous Windows build (v 1.0.110) had an error that came up sometimes on first start, maybe that's what you saw - it should be fixed on 1.0.111 though. Let me know if you find out what it was! Thanks!

Hi! Sorry to hear that. I unfortunately don't have a kitkat phone to test on, as samsung hasn't released it for my S4 for some reason
If you see it again, please press the "Report" button, that'd be a great help! Thanks!
Hi All!
Thanks for the awesome feedback, glad people are liking it. I've noted your issues, and once I finish the next update I think I'll focus on building the mac & linux versions.
Also several requests for configurable UI colours, that's going to be a pain to code, but I think I'll have to do it in the end!
Please if anyone is seeing force closes, press the "Report" button. I may have found 1 cause of them but there may be others :-/
Thanks heaps!
Upon trying to activate the trial features after having had it installed for less than a minute, I get "Failed to start a MissingLink trial. Have you previously done a trial with this device?"
The answer is obviously "No," but the only option available is "OK."
Cannot find a price anywhere, and attempting to buy the pro version (since the trial is not available) results in an error.

[BUILD][03-Sep-2016][SP2] Android-x86 / Remix OS

Hi Devs!
I'm wondering why not more people here working to get android lollipop working on our beloved tablets
I started to read a little bit into the topic and found quick easy solutions on the web to get ordenary android-x86 images boot very well.
Draco wrote an How-To that is easy and works also perfect with the Surface-Pro
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/D85Jq02cLrE
I modified the UEFI files to work better with a out of the box intallation of the Surface and put it together with Android 5.0.2 test builds.
Collect everything I've uploaded in a Folder:
https://drive.google.com/folderview...V3VU0wYV9MY2VVVkY2eGJPT0EyTkQ4WnM&usp=sharing

Gyroscope [HID-SENSOR-200076.0]
Magnetometer [HID-SENSOR-200076.0]
MS Pen not working
YouTube Videos not working (only low resolutions, working over chromecast)

How-To
Here to download a Testbuild for Android 5.0.2 from Google Groups from rgb
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/3xClAbl5D_w
Info:
If an microSD card is inserted the boot process will fail, because the microSD replaces the SSD to be the hd0 device.
Solution: change the grub.cfg entry from hd0 to hd1 and also do the mod in the loopback cfg
[EDIT]: sinc latest UEFI Firmware update, booting from microSD isn't working anymore
gapps can be used from any place, just copy the contens of the .zip file to there correct places.
atm I use a small gapps package from paranoidandroid (PA)
http://d-h.st/o72
WiFi: (not required any more on available builds)
I compiled a build on my Ubuntu intallation and extract the files for you, hope copy the files works also on the downloadable iso.
Please give me feedback if the files are working for you.
usb8797_uapsta.bin replaced in /lib/firmware/mrvl/
mrvl folder replaced in /lib/modules/3.10.58-android-x86+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
Touch/Type Cover 2: (not required any more on available builds)
hid folder replaced in /lib/modules/3.10.58-android-x86+/kernel/drivers/

Hi,
I'm very interested in this!
Could u pls post a tutorial of installing OSX on surface pro 3 ?
I have only installed Max OS 10.9 in VMware, but it's not smooth verywell.
Does WiFi work well within your OSX install ed on the Disk ?
Hi!
For OSX Yosemite go to
http://www.insanelymac.com
I'm on the SP2 and WIFi only per external USB Stick sorry
I hope similar tho the SP2 kex Files for SP3 are available
For me OSX with the use of touchscreens is not very comfortable.
Is like Win7 to small buttons
Also at Android I only get WIFI working via external USB Stick atm.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks a lot, I'll try it.. someday..
Solution for gapps found by the guys from google groups.
Use a EXT4 Partition on the USB-Drive/SSD to get gapps working like a charm.

Surface Pro 3
I can verify that this does not work on the Surface Pro 3. The touchscreen doesn't work, the type cover doesn't work and the pen doesn't work, so I can't even choose my language on the first screen.

I'm sorry for that, if you have time, can you also test a available Android 4.4.4 installation if olso there touchscreen is not working?
I correct the title and update the OP that everyone sees that on SP3 ther are more problems.
Touchscreen is working on SP2 but Type Cover 2 did not so I also need an external USB keyboard for analysing things in console (ALT+F1)

Haha, I understand you, but I have to mention that I'm a noob.
As far as I understand, creating/porting the drivers/firmware/kernel modules for the surface rt will be much more difficult than starting from an existing project like android-x86.
At the moment I split my SSD into more partitiones, installed the third OS (Ubuntu 14.10), get the complete code from git repository and try to set up the build environment to learn more about things are working together.
Also on Ubuntu the WIFI (USB version of MARVELL 88W8797) wont work out of the box but after replacing the firmware from git.marvell.com I get it up working.
Unfortunately this is not working on Android that easy.
The kernel modul for WIFI is loaded (mwifiex.ko) but no additional network interface is showing (mlan0 should be created)

Haha, so glad I found this thread. First things first, is your avatar a paragliding or skydiving canopy? If so, end cells look fantastic and very nice acrobatics with your leg straight up...how did you manage that?
I spent all evening and well into the morning finally getting 4.4-r2 running successfully on my SP2 using Draco's guide. Very nice work there from him.
It's unbelievable how smooth the Android experience is natively. When people recommend the emulators they just don't understand until they experience it themselves.
I have the Type Cover 1, and it's fully functional, but bluetooth and WiFi do not work. I have an Edimax EW-7811Un which does work, but the internet speeds are unusable; it maxes out at .25 Mbps. Is there something I need to do or is there another WiFi dongle which works better? Which one do you use?
Do you know of any combo WiFi/BT dongles that work?
If I can solve the WiFi issue (don't really care about having a small dongle plugged in for android), I will be one happy camper.
One more question: I read the 4.4-r1 had some drivers or something that 4.4-r2 didn't. However, I couldn't get it to boot from USB (it would hang on the android screen). With that said, I just replaced the files within the 4.4-r2 files with the 4.4-r1 on the USB. Do I have to rebuild the thumb drive or can I just replace files?
I will try the Lollipop build later. Good to find someone else doing this! Too bad we're both newbs lol.

Hi there!
I got 4.4-r2 working on my SP3 and about the internet issue you can use usb tethering with your Android phone
Both LTE and Wifi work and I get the same speed as my phone

Thats a paragliding canopy, and what you can see is the basic you have to manage when you want to fly acrobatic style.
Its a full stall where the canopy is not flying forward any more an the pilot is falling backwards untill the body stabilized under the backflying canopy
At the moment I use a USB2.0 HUB to connect the USB-Drive and the WLAN Stick at the same time. because after the last firmware Upgrade of my SP2 the Tablet do not boot any more from the microSD card. ?!?
The WLAN Stick is a original Samsung WIS12ABGNX for my Samsung TV/BD Player I used to test what can be done with them.
on Win8.1 I got a Speed of approx. 8-9MByte/sec (internal Marvell Wifi)
on Android 5.0.2 I got 4-5MByte/sec (external Samsung Wifi)
on Sony Xperia Z2 5.0.2 (unofficial) I got 2-3MByte/sec (internal ... Wifi)
when copy a file between my NAS (100MBit Network LAN structure)
so there is room for improvement, but first I really like to get more familiar with building Android from source by my self and try to get the internal Wifi working.
Also on Ubuntu 14.10 WiFi is working but not very stable but it does. (with including the firmware from git.marvell.com)

I'd rather get a small nano USB WiFi dongle and "set it and forget it." I don't want to have to carry around the SP2 and my phone with a USB cable just to use the internet.

Ya, the image was blurry, I was pretty sure that was a paragliding wing. I was a competitive high-performance canopy pilot (swooper) but have been out of the sport for a number of years. Some of the canopies now have radically different designs and the different wings between skydiving/paragliding/etc are merging now to make some cool stuff. Made a few paragliding flights, but never got into it.

You were able to boot android directly from a microSD and keep the SSD untouched (didn't even think of that)? Did the upgrade affect the partitions at all? Maybe the set root=(hd0,gpt#) and root=/dev/sda# changed, but I'm sure you already looked at that.

Ok, I just want to make sure we're on the same page here. So on Android you were getting 5 MBps (40 Mbps)? That's super fast, unless you meant 5 Mbits, which is still faster than what I'm getting. Right now, I'm getting 0.25 Mbps (0.03125 MBps) which is unusable. I have another WiFi dongle arriving today, so maybe that will help. If it doesn't, why am I getting such slow speeds?

Hi!
I did a 2nd x-check
Defenetly can receiver a 260MB file Form my NAS with ~3,2 Megabyte (~2min) per second and transmit the same file with ~4,5 Megabyte per second back to my NAS with the external Samsung USB WiFi stick
I would say its also possible to installiert Android to the microSD on a EXT4 partition and boot it via Grub.
Yes its all about the (hd0,gpt2) and /dev/sda2 or similar.
Just try it and if the numbers are not correct Boot into Grub and adapt the setting by pressing "e" and thest the setting with "F10"
Well I just tried the TP-Link TL-WN725N and it did not work at all.
Tried within 4.4-r1 that's installed to SP2's SSD and Lollipop booting from USB. WiFi just hangs at turning on and doesn't recognize the dongle.
Why am I getting such slow speeds on the other dongle? And do you know of any specific nano WiFi dongles that work well for this application? I tried searching on Google and in the Android-x86 group but came up empty.
I just want WiFi!!!! :crying:
Hi sorry for my english, there is a guide for install android on surface pro 1 ?
I think is same of surface pro 2, thanks.......
