[Q] Safe Overclock - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi yes im new but not quite a noob :cyclops:
There with that out of the way my overclock settings are 1200mhz min 1600mhz max
so far running great with the HellyBean rom
But how would this effect my phone long term if any and I would like to be able to moniter my cpu temp like I do on my pc
but the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140371&highlight=cpu+temp
has some good apps but they don't say cpu temp just the battery temp unless there interlinked some how
Thanks for looking

No temp sensor on the infuse except for battery.
1200 is really high for a minimum... This should be 100. For performance set governor to ondemand.. This will Max the cpufreq on any load. When idle, freq will drop and save battery and cool phone.
Running for extended periods at 1600 your phone will get very warm to the touch.. Combo of cpu and screen... If plugged into charger that will add more heat.
Battery Monitor Widget is a good app for tracking battery temp and related stats over time.

Thanks ya I figured it was a bit high

Do 100 min and 1400 max
And governor to on demand
Also i set up profiles with set cpu so when screen is off the maximum goes down to 400mhz.then screen on profile the max is 1400.it saves battery

How do you set up profiles?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app

Use a CPU manager like SetCPU ($). Voltage Control or Antutu CPU Mgr may also have profiles.. Not sure -it's been a while since I used either.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

The only ones I found so far that have profiles are pay for but once I get one I think its going to be either ROM manager or antutu

uhm. not sure if its working or not to underclock for screen off profile
do we need a custom kernel?

I tried it as i bought it when I had a g1 and the sliders are grayed out.. guess we have to wait for a kernel. Shouldn't be long though LG released the source already..

yep... I have profiles set.
but if u can't put scaling on demand then how is it working.
sent from my G2X with no regrets
Correct me if I'm wrong. All scaling does is how the CPU scales itself(to a given formula depending on the profile) for example if using a conservative scale the CPU scales itself by 15mhz depending on the task so if your min is 218 it would go up or down by 15 until it reaches the maximum or min. Since no kernals are available yet for our device it will use the default scaling profile built in. my screen off profile is a Max 218 Min 218 with a priority of 100. Regardless of the scaling profile selected I am forcing the CPU to down clock to that set of perimeters

You are correct in that CPU scales itself based on the parameters Nvidia gave it. In this particular kernel there is only one governer by default (this is why you cannot alter the governor settings) and it's set to Performance Powersave. The scaling driver used according to the source code is tegra_cpufreq. I haven't dug far enough through the code to figure out what that means but it appears most frequencies are in intervals of 24mhz.
so i've been hesitant to use my setcpu. just wondering what everyone set their profiles to. lol

I would attempt three things before seeking any further escalation. First I would try running fix permissions using rom manager /cwm if that doesn't work delete the apk using root explorer and reinstall the software if that doesn't work create a nand backup of your device and start from scratch. Setcpu should work with the tegra2 plus the developer you reach out to regarding this will ask you to do this regardless.

Ok when you guys first start SetCpu (after clean install), what screen do you guys get? And what selection do you make?
When i first boot the phone I have a whole bunch of options to select on which device I use. The first one should be tegra2.

[Q] SetCpu help!!

"Third -(Root Needed) Set CPU. Have had this on my G1 and N1 and it does nothing but save battery. I currently have it set on 216 - 1000 for when the screen is on and the only profile i have is for when the screen is off and it is at 216-216.
(Alternative) Pimp My CPU. I now am using this for my G2x because I am running custom kernal. Personally I like Set CPU better, but do to the fact that Set CPU can't get past 1000 MHz makes it kinda useless for the G2x Tegra 2. "
This is for the thread "Twenty Hour Of Battery Life" When he says he currently has it set on 216-1000, is he using the "Pimp My CPU"? Also where is that set at exactly? Is it set on the "Main-Scaling Driver" When you open up SetCpu? My "Scaling" is greyed out, I can not set it to "OnDemand" or anything, and yes my phone is rooted, it was the first step in that thread. Both Min, and Max go from 122, 128,245, and 528mHZ, so I am confused on this 216-1000? Also When I go to create a profile, and choose "Screen Off", I have the same issue as above, 216-216? What is that??? Be specific, and I am not a stranger to rooting, etc, so help me out, so I can on to the next step and install "Battery Calabration"

Haha What typed is pretty simple to understand. I have the app SetCpu and when you open up, you are at the "Main" Tab, "Scaling" is greyed/blacked out, I can not set it to On Demand or Conservative. My phone is rooted, and SetCpu has Root Access.
Now how come scaling is disabled? Also, when the person who created the thread "Twenty Hour Battery Life" said he currently has it set to 216-1000, what does that mean? how do I set it to that? He also mentioned that he created profile for when the screen is off, and set it to "216-216", I do not understand what that means, and how to set it like that? I created a profile "Screen Off", but I am stuck at how to put it to "216-216"?

On my Nexus One here the only thing I have Setcpu do is when the screen is off it goes to min245 max 384. While using your phone Android regulates your processing power based off of what it needs. While Android does that when the phone sleeps I don't want it going above 384. With my Nexus One I usually get around 18hours + of battery life w/ medium usage. I didn't have my G2x long enough to try out Setcpu but IMO only have setcpu regulate your sleepmode

Why do people keep saying this? I guess the author of the app is lying when he says it is compatible and all the people running it successfully are lying also.
SetCpu supports Terga 2 starting with version 2.1.1a

SetCPU does work with the tegra2 but I am not sure if it is playing nice with the custom kernels made by Faux and Morfic, that is why everyone is using Pimp My CPU
SetCPU works for scaling but not overclocking.
A great free app that DOES work with both of those kernels is CPU Master - find it on the market.
Thanks for clearing that up. I knew something wasn't right with set CPU onthis phone

What are your settings for CPU Master for the Tmobile G2X? I want to get 20+hours at least, I am using Battery Calabaration from the Market and I charged the phone to 100%, opened up the app which required root access, tapped battery calaberate, then unplugged it, that was at 130 or 1:40, it is now 5:35pm, and it is at 76%, not lasting at all

That's great battery life considering its a dual core tegra 2 phone which will always suck alot of battery juice . If you want a 20+ hour device then get a blackberry.
Android phones are known battery leeches. Look into a portable battery charger

Setcpu does support tegra in G2X but currently does not support oc'ing. The scaling is greyed out on mine to but doesn't affect it sd i have seen.
So if your looking for settings use these for setcpu
Profile battery < 25%
Max 500
Min lowest
Reason: save battery amd extend phone usage
Profile sceen off
Max 1ghz
Min lowest
Reason: will drop to 216 if not using and is in idle but will jumo up if processing power is needed
Profile general (main screen)
Max 1ghz
Min 1ghz
Reason: makes cpu run full steam when using

The overheat notice is built in. If you're overclocking, you may need to step it down a notch! Also, you might want to use something like watchdog to make sure you don't have an app hogging CPU while idle, because even overclocked, it shouldn't be using so much CPU while idle to trigger the overheat warning.
I've actually decided NOT to overclock because of that... I thought my phone was immune to overheat, as it benched /stress tested fine.. then I handed it to my girlfriend and she played Princess Punt for an hour, and ignored the overheat warnings till it crashed! Ooops.

CPU changing speed

you only under clock for battery right? i assume you over clock at home right? or is it bad to change it often? i wish there app that change cpu depending on location. is this possible?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Your CPU speed actually changes on its own rather often based on the load that it's taking on. For example, if your phone is just idling, the load on the CPU is close to nothing, so it's going to clock itself down to lower frequencies to save not only battery life, but itself from wearing out. Now say you're playing a game or watching a movie or something, it's going to do what it can to clock itself up to speeds to process whatever it's doing the best it can. Unless you have a STRICT clocking profile set up (say, min 1728, max 1728, performance), your clock is going to go up and down quite often. Download CPU Spy from the market and you'll see pretty well what I'm talking about.
Hope I was able to help!

Don't go below 200 when screen is off. You'll get the "sleep of death" at the most inconvenient times.

I run lowest at 187MHz @ 700mV without any problem. I also set my screen off freq to that. Never tried one below that freq.
Here's a little info on using an overclocking daemon vs setcpu taken from the virtuous unity thread.
Introduction to the new Overclocking Daemon
This ROM features a completelynew wayof Overclocking and managing screen states.
The History But before explaining it further, let's talk about previous solutions. There are several different approaches to achieve "screen-state-scaling". That means basically thatthegovernor changes if you turn the screen off and changesbackto normal when turning the screen on.
This is mainly used to restrict the amount of CPU usage (the frequency in fact) during screen off. This can lead to a major battery life increase.
The solutions so far were:
Apps likeSetCPU,which changeautomaticallythe governor based on profiles Integrated solutions in the governor itself
Both these solutions have major problems.
The one with a tuner app is always a little laggy right after turning on the screen because SetCPU (or any other CPU tuner) needs some time to change the governors (up to 7 seconds). This leads mostly to major lag in the lockscreen.
The second solution is the smartass governor. It has already a screen-state-scalingincluded,so it reduces the frequency when the screen turn off. This could be a really nice solution but it has some problems too. Smartass most of the time is not really stable and has problems with its frequency scaling.
Be aware that the daemon only works if all CPU tuner apps are deinstalled. Otherwise it deactivates itself.

Thats very low. Surprised you do not get any issues.
Wish I could find the thread, but I was on a custom ROM that set the minimum CPU frequency to something below 200 by default, and I couldn't send text or MMS messages. Really weird.
