Sumvision Cyclone Astro+ 9.7 - Miscellaneous Android Development

Hi All.
I have been scouring the internet and experimenting, but now I need some help.
My g/f has a Sumvision Cyclone Astro+ 9.7. (as seen here)
The support from Sumvision is rubbish and due to various speed/performance issues that I know can be addressed with a better ROM, I have been trying in vain to get it updated. The specs are in the link above, and it seems to be a clone of a momo 11 bird, Eken A90 or Yarvik Xenta. I know there is the basis of a great tablet here, just crippled by a poor ROM.
I am reasonably experienced with Android flashing/rooting etc as some of my previous posts will show, but this Astro 9.7 has be stumped.
It used Livesuit to upgrade, but none of the roms for the obvious clones work - Livesuit throws an error thats related to incompatible roms or partition layout. I extracted the livesuit images and merged different parts together and I get a working installation of a new rom but the hardware doesnt work right, (no touchscreen, no wifi etc). I freely admit that I am probably not merging the right parts - this level is new to me.
I also cannot find a working method for installing CWM. I have tried various versions for Allwinner units and installed by ADB and Sausagemod. CWM will install and work, but the system, cache and SD do not mount and the tablet will not boot to anything but CWM - even with a hard reset - which then means I have to reflash the Sumvision Livesuit image. This leads me to believe the partition layouts on this tablet are quite different to its clones but I dont know what I can do about it.
So, I need help. I have read various tutorials on porting roms but none I follow seem to give a fully working ROM. Ideally, I want CM9 or CM10 but will be happy with any good custom rom that will work. Any ideas how to proceed?

iView 756TPC and Unofficial CM9 mod for A10s

Yeah yeah, noob question! Prepare to verbally pants me.
Just bought a iView 756TPC tablet from the egg. Works pretty well some issues and chinese bloatware. Anyhow, want to flash this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760929
Only problem is I don't know whether to try the MOMO9 compatibility patch or the LY-F1 patch. Only differences I can find are I have 1GB DDR3 not 512MB DDR2. Both are almost identical hardware. I am leaning towards the LY-F1 b/c my buildprop shows Broncho which is listed as a clone of the LY-F1. I have googled a ton but it seems this thing is pretty new. You'll prolly find a few of my threads when you search and not much else! There is some info on the 760TPC which is from the same manufacturer. So basically I am confused as possible. I pasted some specs I exported from the systeminfo app. Hope that's enough to go on. Go ahead and rip me a new one.

Why yes, yes you can!
Got ClockworkMod Recovery working. Only issue is my buttons don't work. I have to use adb to initialize the recovery as well. Cannot hit the "back" key while in recovery mode but as long as you do everything right that's ok! I just flashed the LY-F1 version and it is SWEET so much faster than the stock ICS rom that came with the 756 from iView. However, my back, menu and home buttons don't work. They are not hard buttons but rather on the touchscreen part, probably related to why I can't use them to boot into CWM recovery too. The screen flickers a bit as well, but looks like with some tweaking I can get this baby running CyanogenMod9 :victory: Any other iView 756TPC users need some help getting going, it was not easy... let me know!
I'll just keep talking to myself!
OK, well neither of the compatibility patches will work with this tab so I guess I'm on my own. Oh well, I think I have the key mapping figured out and know i can easily change the lcd density so I can fix those no problem. It's including all the modules in the system/vendor/modules/ folder I am concerned about. There are a ton of those and I guess I am just not sure how they work and if I will have to customize the install script to include them in the existing patch. A lil' help would be splendid. I modified the existing Momo9 patch to include the updated key mapping and modified the script that changes the default cm9 lcd density, but I cannot get clockwork to execute my zip. Do i have to zip it up a certain way? I also added the vendor modules in the appropriate location inside the new zip, but I was not sure if I needed to add some scripting to copy them since there is no vendor folder in the existing patch i am modifying?? again if anyone is reading this I would really appreciate some kind of response!:fingers-crossed:
Thanks!

Yeah, I had bought 2 of them. One of them suddenly had a pixel die, then the screen became unresponsive so I RMA'd them and bought a Samsung Galaxy 2. I could not figure out how to get the extra buttons on the touchscreen to work. I successfully remapped the volume buttons to serve as menu and back until I figured out the touch buttons. It must have something to do with a module for the touchscreen itself. I was going to try and insmod some modules (there are a zillion of them in the vendor module folder in the stock rom) and see what happened, then the pixel died and I said forget it. One thing I wanted to try was using a gingerbread rom for the 760TPC and see if it improved performance, but obviously never got around to it. The stock ICS Rom from iview was sluggish, especially compared to CM9 which the tablet ran admirably I must say. Anyways good luck!
One more note, to answer my own question just in case anyone else had it....
For some reason CWM did not like my winRAR zip files. Zipping them with 7zip default zip settings seemed to remedy the situation. I was able unzip the patch modify files using Notepad ++ and re zip with 7zip. CWM then would execute my patch just fine.
@RedForestStudios. Thanked you for each of your posts. You have given me some hope that I will be able to get CM9 on this little tablet. I didn't need it. I only bought it because I couldn't say no to the price. Any chance of detailing how you got CWM and CM9 on this? Did you use the method for the 760TPC?
I see you said you didn't get the buttons working. I'm assuming that was in CM9, correct? If I can get CWM on it I would be happy using ADB or QuickBoot to initiate it.
Does anyone happen to have a backup of the stock rom? i have searched the corners of the internet trying to find it as mine died on my second day of owning it but could be fixed with a flash of the stock rom. If anyone could help i would be very thankful

Iview has posted this full update on their site. Although I have yet to make it work. If you can get it to work let me know.
Their website is www<dot>iviewus<dot>com. Go to the dowloads page. Replace my <dot> with .
Spoke too soon
It looks like IviewUS has pulled the image. That may have explained the problem I was having after getting LiveSuit 1.09 to work.
From Iview
Iview says they are rebuilding their image file and the rewriting the instructions to the CyPad 756TPC. It should be posted in a few days.

Good to see some activity here in this thread. In case anybody wants/needs it RedForestStudios kindly gave me what he had before he returned his tablet. Sadly, I am too busy/lazy to learn what to do with it. If anybody wants it let me know. Meanwhile I'll reach out to him and make sure its ok.
What his zip included:
• cm9 – CyanogemMod 9 from XDA for AllWinner A10s
• CWM Recovery 5 ICS – CWM for AllWinner A10s (I think there might be some stray .ko and .kl files in their you can just delete)
• iview ICS – The stock rom from iView
• momo9_compatibility_1.2.0 – Don’t know if this is my modded version or not, cannot recall, you can easily find out by comparing to the original
I contacted the OP a while back and he provided me with some stuff he had and accomplished. Perhaps somebody who has one of these could use this to aid in dev? I am to busy/lazy to learn how to do this at this time.
I contacted him again today and he has agreed to allow me to pass it on should someone want it.
Included in zip:
• cm9 – CyanogemMod 9 from XDA for AllWinner A10s
• CWM Recovery 5 ICS – CWM for AllWinner A10s (I think there might be some stray .ko and .kl files in their you can just delete)
• iview ICS – The stock rom from iView
• momo9_compatibility_1.2.0 – Don’t know if this is my modded version or not, cannot recall, you can easily find out by comparing to the original
Also some notes from RedForestStudios:
Couple of notes, first make sure to use a text editor like notepad++ to edit the files unix/linux do not like the extra linebreaks or spaces windows typically inserts. If you happen to be using a program like dreamweaver to edit these make sure to turn on the unix compatibility mode in preferences, default is windows I believe. I think I was about to start insmod’ing modules via adb since I could not get the softkeys to work via mapping the the sun4i files. The key must be in one of the many vendor modules included in the stock iView rom.
Do you know if that stock image from Iview is the one they pulled?
Okay, Iview has posted the new image. I am still getting the same error. I am guessing these things are going to have to go back to the seller.
756TPC Firmware
I downloaded the firmware image and LiveSuite with instructions but was unable to get it to work. LiveSuite would come up with a box with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. The instructions include a step to press the "back" button which doesn't exist on the 756. I had flashed a 760 to ICS a while back so I tried that version of LiveSuite. It included button captions in English. It also came up with the yellow triangle but the caption said "Invalid image file". I sent this info to one of the IView techs and am waiting for a reply. If anyone has any updated info I'd be grateful to hear it. Thanks to all for all the info.
That is what I am getting. Iview had posted they were updating the intructions. I have yet to see them.

I think I am giving up. I had sent in an RMA to 'nova unhatched chickens' when the thing originally died. They peeled off part of the serial number on the back of the tablet and broke the charger dongle. Then they shipped the broken thing back saying they could not verify the serial number on the tablet even though the serial number was also on the back of the glossy Iview box. After that, I contacted the credit card company to cancel the transaction.
Hey, I have this tablet also and it runs so horribly slow. I was looking for a way to get cm10 on it but after reading this thread it seems like that won't happen, let alone cm9. Most of these chinese tablets are clones. Does anyone know what 756 is a clone of?
I found that this tablet may be similar but I can't find any files for it on the web.
"Mach Speed stealth-pro-7"
http://www.triomp3.com/media-players/tablets/stealth-pro-7/
Edit:
Actually I discovered that it is a clone of a tablet called LY-F1.
Don't have time to look it up now but apparently there are several roms for it.
I actually got cm10 running on my 756tpc! But then I bricked it trying to fix the auto rotation lol. Everything worked except auto rotation and the touch buttons. I'll post how I got it running if someone asks.
im making this post for those that have 756tpc issues, and cant yet find much support. ( like me)
around 34(4 days out of warantee) days ago, i purchased 2 756tpc. they worked great, however one day, while my tablet was just plugged in to charge, i held the power button to power it down. After it came back up, the 1g of internal memory appeared totally full, and it said 0%. Also it said the apps on this space were like 80 megs or so. i must add that at one point i used system tuner to freeze a few apps, prevented a few user installed apps from auto firing, and moved a few apps to sd. as a final circumstance, the tablet appeared reset - nothing was installed, etc.
So, im thinking wow, i guess ill start over, well, no apk would install, because it thought the internal memory was full or non existant. when i went to hard reset, it would show the updating android screen, than go instantly to the laying down android with red exclamation point.
the tablet worked perfectly except for this. thats when i got on the livesuit path - well, at the time, not long ago, there was an image for the 756 on the iview website, which i pulled, along with livesuit. after figuring out that this image was fail(756TPC-20120903.img), i pulled the one they had listed for the 760, and flashed it on the tablet. this was how i discovered my image was bad, i initially just wanted to see if the 760 image would initiate -- it did, and it flashed. --for the record the image i had would just give a yellow exclamation popup with no text when i connected the tablet.
with the 760 image, the ram issue i was having was apparently fixed, and i had more hope. it was slightly different, rotation, nor cap buttons worked, but the tablet worked more than it did with the original issue.
so, after a few days, i called iview and an asian sounding tech answered - i explained the issue, and that i wanted the firmware. he told me that in 2-3 days the new one would be up on the site to download. he chuckled at the fact that i flashed the 760 image, and asked me what happened, and that they hadnt tried it yet. he chuckled.
so - after this, to continue on the "mission" -i saw kingofmyworld324 mentioned the LY-F1. after i saw them looking idential almost, and the same for specs - i didnt have to spend long before trying these images.
---
first i used ICS-Seby_8.04.7z - which flashed and showed an ugly boot screen before failing to load. i tried twice.
next i flashed :
4.0______20120315-a721-LF-y1.rar -its 4.0.3 ICS
works perfectly! -maybe even faster and better than the original firmware. theres a few small things that may differ, but -- niice.
problem solved.
i may or may not try the 756 rom if and when they add it back.
thanks!

[Q] JXD P1000 Android 4.1 - Any root method ?

Hello Xda team!
I post my first message to go with the purchase of my first Android tablet!
I have been tempted by a JXD P1000 with the following characteristics:
-Cortex A9 2x1.2GHZ
-Capacitif led screen IPS 1024x600 1080p
-Android 4.1 Jelly bean
-Internal memory 8 Go
-External memory 32 Go
-1 Go RAM
-Wifi B/G/N
-Bluetooth
-Front and rear camera 0.3 and 2mpxl
-3G
-GSM
-GPS
I have chosen to read books and to replace my old phone with something new.
However, I come with a lot of questions!
I like to customize what I have, and the first thing I want is to remove embedded applications origins.
I read on the internet "you must have root access", but I have not found a tutorial on google for this new tablet.
I'm pretty novice but I know fend me, which way I must choose for root this unknown tablet?
In advance thank you very much, and have a day!
(Sorry for my approximate English, I'm french)
Hello,
You can find more informations on this tablet here : h ttp://w ww.jxd.hk/products.asp?id=632&selectclassid=009008 (remove spaces)
Thanks in advance,
root for JXD P1000
I have posted about my JXD P1000s at GSM phone arena forum. Google it as I'm not allowed to post a direct link here. I rooted my JXD P100s but this might work on your JXD P1000. My post at GSM forum will direct you back here at xda developers for the rooting tool I used called Vroot version 1.6-updates to 1.7 when you install it, which successfully rooted the P1000s and enabled me to delete all installed programs I didn't need. You will need to connect JXD to computer, the rooting tool installed drivers for me in windows XP which are needed to connect the phone to the computer, look at other posts here regarding that if you need to. I kept the stock factory ROM since everything works fine with it. Note at JXD's website there are two different downloadable versions of the factory ROM for the two JXD "phablets" we are discussing here in case you need it, the P1000 and the P1000s are not the same and need different firmware if you need to re-install that. I did not need to re-install a new ROM or the original factory ROM, just rooted. I could find nothing else that rooted the JXD, this method might be only thing that works on yours also and I tried everything I could find. Good luck, the improvement on mine is definitely noticeable, if only that it gave me more usable phone memory by deleting the factory installed Chinese apps I couldn't use. Yours has more memory so this might not be an issue 512K for P1000 vs. only 256K for the P1000s is noticeable. the P1000 has built-in GPS and 3G, the P1000s only 2G and no GPS and a nicer finish IMO. The OS are supposedly the same, Jellybean Android 4.1 Hope this helps.

[Q] How and where to start modifying/customizing roms

Hello, first of all this is my first post, so im gonna introduce myself first,
I am a freelance web designer/developer and understands logical programming. Anyways i am basically new to android, and i want to learn how to edit/modify/customize stock roms. so first i want to learn extract these stock roms. I am currently on the starting phase and i only have some ideas about the terms / programs that is used in this forums. Basically, i am running a windows machine, OS is windows 7.
I find it hard to fix some bugs i encounter in my android which lead me to the goal of learning.
So for the device that i will use as a scapegoat for my learning venture, i am using a Skyworth x7010 tablet which have no more support, i think and not a very well known model, infact i cant seem to find any forums dedicated to the tablet itself.
I am technically knowledgable in computer hardware and windows OS, also i am able to write different type of websites in php, (forums, E-Commerce, social networking/networking website, company web based panels, etc.). As of now I am currently working alone in every web aspect of bagongpleion.com and bagongpleion.net.
So far this is what i have done, and done to the tablet. I have no backup as of now.
1. I have already bricked one, just made it perma bricked then returned for warranty, the staffs decided to mark it as defective motherboard (No response from anything including recovery mode and bootloader mode) ~ Bricked it while trying to flash cwm for rk30 device.
2. device is running a JB 4.1.1 for the android version, and kernel 3.0.36+ ([email protected] #48)
3. I have already started learning adb, well for the most part, i had used it in the past for unlocking devices that got locked out screen patterns, and rooting.
4. The Device has a rk3188 1.6ghz max quad (Box says 1.8 though), mali400mp(Quad), 2GB ddr3 ram, 8gb internal storage, partitioned in 2, nand and internal.
5. I have the usb drivers for adb and rktool, android sdk, currently downloading and installing cygwin but the download is so long, i am forced to close/pause it.
6. I have already rooted the device, and modified the applications, and removed some apps that is not required. I deleted the files in the /system/app thru adb. I also had edited the Build.prop already, Changed the heapsize to the best performance (I am comparing the performance with CPU Identifier and Passmark. ) Stability is tested with simultaenous apps (High end games, browser, root apps, benchmark). I also edited the pixel density and reduced it by 1 to make the resolution exactly 1280 x 800.
7, One bug i found is that it cant play NBA 2k13, I had almost tried every solution i can find in the internet, Used different version, i even copied the data and apk from a device that can play it. The game force closes automatically after the Black screen (Original apk) or muzhiwan or apkmania.com loading screen at the start. This is also one of the reasons why i wanted to edit/modify the device.
What i wanted to do.
-Backup Original Firmware/rom/img (i dont know which and what is the correct term)...
-upgrade jellybean to 4.2 if possible, or 4.3
-Tweak more the device to bring out the full potential of it,
-remove and clean the apps and everything, leaving only the necessary files and apps.
-learn more how much i can modify it.
NOTE: I am not asking for the people in this forum to spoonfeed me, i just wanted to know how and where to start, what to do, some keywords for searching, and the limitations that i have in my venture.
-i am a gambler and will take the risk to learn android much more )
Thank you
First of all, congrats that you are more of a researcher. That's a good thing because in the internet, answers to every questions are available. You just need to do the right search in the right way. :good:
Games not working on a device maybe because of various reasons such as the developer has made it limited to work on certain devices or processor architecture etc. If Play Store link shows not supported, then it needs more research and modifications to make it work, which is like 50-50.
And, as a learner you are good to start with XDA-University. It has countless tutorials in that section.
Good Luck and welcome to XDA!
thank you for the link and reply, i am actually suited best in researching, i learned every bit and pieces i know in building websites, programming web apps and system with php, even overclocking and advanced troubleshooting in researching the internet, anyways i have another question to ask,
what is nandroid?
is it an android device with nand storage? (I.E. Nand - internet - external - usb storage)
thank you again

Nandroid is referred to as Nandroid Backup (Backup being taken of ROMs) in ClockWorkMod recovery (Custom Recovery) for the most part.

i see, thank you again, as of now, i am still downloading cygwin packages, do you have an idea how big is the total file size of it?
and another thing, I have used romdump, and got the following..
boot.img (13mb+)
checksum.md5(265b)
config.gz
recovery.img(32mb)
systeminfo.gz(1.76kb)
system.tar(385MB)
how can these files help me and can i use them for backup?

Sorry, no idea about Cygwin.
boot.img is your Kernel, and its needed for modifying the kernel. config.gz is the configuration of your device, and its also used for kernel building. recovery.img is your recovery. system.tar is your system partition which contains all files related to ROM. Yes, you can use these as a backup, as actually you'll get these when you take a nandroid backup in CWM recovery.

basically, the system.img is the one that is mounted on /system right? and it contains all files related to rom, does it mean that the ROM is like the OS? if i am not mistaken, i had already edited the apps and build.prop in the /system before i had made the system.img. But i have pulled the whole /system folder before i deleted the apps thru adb.
now the recovery.img is the one that have the android with red triangle exclamation point on vol+ power (android system recovery 3e, this is stock right) ? this is what i need to use if i fail on flashing a custom recovery? is that right?
how important is the config.gz?
boot.img is the kernel, should i stay away from the kernel for the time being? or is it better to check the boot.img first?
am i lacking any file for backup or is this enough for backup?
i have installed rom manager but it says it unsupported device. does it mean that i cannot install CWM?
i think i can flash custom rom with rkbatchtool, i had tried it before (custom rom for a different type) and it ended up bricking the device
as of now, i have tried flashing the generic cwm for rockchip which ended in a black screen recovery,
i also tried flashing my recovery.img but it doesnt work, it get flash but nothing works
it is still working fine as of now except that it doesnt have a recovery!
i think i had corrupted the recovery partition, cause i used a 1.35 rk flash tool and the memory address was set for rk3066 which is 0x0010000 (i think) and mine was 0x0020000.....

[Q] [ROM request] Madecom Freeway Tab 7.0

Hello,
it turns out, that the producer of tat handy tablet/navigation dropped support for our devices. Last available version of android was 4.0.3 and has many bugs including spontaneous restart while sleeping or wrtie access blocking to internal SD card. Without those problems the device is very nice and as navigation with i.e. Sygic on board works very well.
So, I am not a developer. The device is not very popular around the globe. It may be accessible in Poland only, therefore there aren't any alternative versions of that firmware.
Fortunately, the producer gave all the tools needed to manually upgrade the firmware to 4.0.3. It is the PhoenixCard writer and ROM image. The device upgrade process itself is then very simple after that.
Can you help me and many other polish users of that device? It would be nice to correct those two errors mentioned above (reboots and r/w problems) but much better it would be to have any stock android without any hidden menus or features (perferably 4.2.2+), or even better, any version of super ROMs.
Any help would be great.

inside you'll find booth image and flash program.

HipStreet Phantom 2 10" tablet

I'm trying to revive a seriously slow & buggy tablet from the draw to run just 1 app for my cctv when in the garage. Anyways, It's running Android 6.0 but its shocking slow & it wont update google play services. So, I'm looking for a custom rom, twrp & root for this tablet. I've been googling for 2 days & when I find a website, like tweakdroid or gofirmware which seems to have an identical website under different URLs who's download links just sends me in an infinite loop of clicking, Tweakdroid sends me to download stuff, but the links are always dead or it tells me to download something which like twrp, but I'm asked to select the make, which isn't displayed.
I've got all kinds of tablets, even tablets that are generically basic & old that have twrp & custom roms available. So why can't I find anything for this? So help needed

IMO you should ask this question to developers of TWRP and/or Custom ROM ( like LineageOS ).
