Was running the OTA 4.1.2 stock
I followed the OP in the stated guide, everything went great.
Installed TWRP, rooted and unlocked.
I than flashed the latest CleanRom, that went well also.
Phone was and is running nicely. I had an update for superuser from the play store, which I took, but now I don't have root.
Can I just reinstall the superuser from TWRP or do I have to start over?
I have no trouble getting into TRWP.

Does this method of rooting wipe the phone data? Before this update I used a nowipe file. Is this the same?

If you're using SuperSU, in the Settings there's Cleanup/Reinstall for reinstallation from Google Play. Maybe try that.

I do not have any settings in the Superuser app to reinstall/cleanup. I have uninstalled the update from the app store.....
Really wondering if I install the Superuser from TWRP do I need to reflash the VRALEC Bootchain first?
I have went ahead and installed the updated binary from in TWRP. That gave me root again.
Case closed......

I have a rooted razr maxx hd, and I received an upgrade notification last week. I used OTA rootkeeper to secure my root, and then upgraded to the latest OS. Once it upgraded, I used OTA rootkeeper to reinstate root.
I have had nothing but problems with the latest update. My phone freezes at least twice a day.
What can I do to fix this?

Unless you want to fast boot and lose root, I would install safestrap and flash a new rom

But how can I install a new ROM when I have the latest OS, which doesn't have root. Can I install safestrap on the latest OS and still go back to the previous OS? Or do I need to fastboot back to the old rom unrooted, then install safestrap, then install a rooted rom?

You said you reinstated root no? Update your super su binaries then install safestrap app and recovery. You can't go back to anything on the latest ota. what I'm suggesting is starting over with a fresh install of a new rom or a stock rom using safestrap. Your original install would remain untouched.

I tried to use Safestrap and tried two different roms, but they failed to install. Now my phone won't restart at all, seems bricked. What can I do?
I have tried using safe strap with multiple roms. One of them installed but wouldn't recognize my sd card. Another just made my phone freeze.
The one I really want to install is is just 4.1.1 with root, but every version of that I've tried to install immediately fails. Don't know if I'm just finding flawed files, or if it's something I'm doing.
What are my options at this point?

4.1.1 is not a rom, it is an ota... Im not sure what you are trying to do, but if you are on 4.1.2 OTA and kept root(restored root) and have safestrap installed you are good. There is no way to go back or downgrade to ICS with this latest OTA(4.1.2) yet. Once you are in safestrap I would create a back up of you stock slot, just hit boot options and make sure stock Rom is highlighted(it will also say Rom Slot: stock in red on top). Once that is done create a rom slot by going through boot options, rom-slot-1 and choose the size partition you want and then create rom slot. You can then restore the back up of stock slot you made before, just make sure you are on rom slot 1. Then wipe cache/dalvik/system/data, which are the top 4 options. Now you can install any rom which should be on your external sd card. There are some that are not daily drivers yet with things that are broken, but there are also fully functional ones. There are a couple other forums which have several roms that are only posted on those respective forums. You just have to look around.

Like I said 4.1.1 is not a rom, it is a firmware and the file you are trying to install is a firmware upgrade. That post was for the jb leak, so you can download it when on ICS and upgrade to it while keeping root. To keep root you follow the steps in that post. Since you are rooted and on 4.1.2 now, you cannot go back to 4.1.1 on your stock slot. And there is no reason to try to flash a rom slot with a firmware upgrade because it will not work. So your phones main firmware is now 4.1.2 which can not be changed back to 4.1.1. If you need to sbf you will have to use the sbf file for 4.1.2 and that will restore your phone to stock 4.1.2 only and you will loose root for good. Or at least until there is a way to root on this latest ota which may not be for a while.
If you want a rom, it will say [Rom] in that title. Batakang, Inflicted HD and wWidow HD which are posted on this forum all work with no problems. Most of the others have either mounting(sd card), camera or something not working. And like I said there are some more out there on other forums that are fully functional as well, search... All of these roms are based off either ICS, or JB 4.1.1 and will work in safestrap on any rom slot except stock even though you have 4.1.2 on stock slot. Now if you are saying that even flashing roms which are listed as fully functional gives you an error then you are either doing something wrong, or have done something wrong when rooting.
Also if you created any rom slots, just delete them so you can start over. Create rom slot 1 and restore your back up of stock slot to it and wipe all 4 i listed above before installing the rom.

I'm on ota 4.1.2 + root with no problem at all, no longer lag with the stock launcher also.
At first the ota upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 was failed, so i used the utility 1.1 to go back to stock 4.0.4, root, install voodoo ota, temp unroot, upgrade, restore root..

You need to update to 4.1.2 using that factory fastboot files and then root again. I did the same and it made a noticeable difference in how my phone ran. I'll get you the windows link to the files. If you run Linux I'll have to upload what I've put together. Its based on mattlgroff HD utility but updates you to 4.1.2 and roots it.
Link for fastboot files. Install rsdlite and the moto drivers if in windows.

Do the files in that link include a fastboot that is ALREADY rooted? If not, how do I go about rooting once I install?

I followed your directions precisely, but once I used the fastboot files, the phone was NO LONGER rooted. How do I get root on 4.1.2? Your post gave the impression that if I installed the files you included, the phone should immediately be rooted.

is there a way I can do this? I got the push notification from sprint today to update to jb 4.2.2. I've already downloaded the update (188 mb). Do I just install it over my current setup? Or would I have to remove my root and then re-install it when the 4.2.2 is on?

Tried the voodoo ota root keeper, but when the phone initially rebooted, it went straight into the twrp recovery and didnt install, after that followed a bootloop. So i went into factory reset the phone and its stable now. So, how would i go about installing the update in this case?

I think it's usually in cache, and if you factory reset then that is wiped.
You should be on stock recovery if you want to flash the OTA directly.
J-Jeezy: Please edit the thread title so it's not misleading - the most current official Motorola firmware release for Photon Q is Android 4.1.2.

Since I know the question will come up immediately after someone has updated to the official JB I figured I would confirm that I was able to preserve my root (stock locked bootloader) by using voodoo ota root keeper.
If you have rooted but not unlocked your bootloader yet and still want to keep root on the Jelly Bean update do the following, I can confirm this worked for me:
1. Install voodoo ota root keeper.
2. Backup root and then temp unroot using the above.
3. Install official 4.1.2 OTA
4. After upgrade/reboot go back into voodoo OTA and restore root.
5. Open superuser and confirm
I was going from the last stock (asa14) rooted only, no boot loader unlock. Using koush's superuser.
Of course if you have already unlocked your bootloader & installed another recovery then this is not needed.

Did you actually do the OTA update with this, or is there a process that I can install the download from this forum to a rooted phone (still with locked bootloader) to update to JB? Would it just upgrade my device then like the OTA, or would it wipe it?
I got the OTA prompt this morning so I first went into voodoo ota and and ensured i was backed up then temp unrooted and did a check for updates then installed OTA.

It downloads the update file automatically but won't install it until you give it the OK. Posting this from my q right now, up to 4.1.2. Unfortunately I didn't think to back up my root and it was undone.
I recently accepted the MF1 OTA update without unrooting. I'm a noob so really didn't think about it until it was too late. The update installed via TWRP and I lost root, custom recovery and bootloader is locked yet again. Just wondering if I could flash back to MB1 using Odin in download mode or are there any precautionary steps I need to take before trying to flash back? Or will it even work?

Never heard of MF1 when did you get that update.
You can always try to odin back. Hopefully whatever mf1 is didn't break the root process and it causes a brick.

Maybe i was thinking use EZrecovery to restore stock recovery. and use OTA rootkeeper from VooDoo. then just use EZrecovery to flash CWM again. the only thing i am worried about is the bootloader locking again.
I received the update early this morning. I had MD3 stock rooted but flashed back to MB1. Kept checking for software updates again for a couple of days and it kept saying none available until this morning. So I accepted it without thinking. . Here is a screenshot of the update. ..

It should print off an error log in /cache (I think) which tells you why it failed. I believe that it auto fails if you have a modified SystemUI, have Google Wallet installed, removed system apps, things of that nature.

No problem! If you do want to take the OTA, you can Odin flash VRBMB1 and have it update from there. Alternatively, Scrosler posted the rooted VRBMF1 rom in the dev section.

Ok so i FXZ back to stock, and i uninstalled A2Bootstrap, installed Busybox and updated to latest version it installed to system/xbin. Now i installed BMM and try to install and i get a error 'Wrong BMM busybox" what did i do wrong?

Yeah, just fix it i guess, all i wanted was stock 4.0.4 so i flashed AT&T version for my stock my original is TNZ.

I just flashed AT&T ICS and install BMM from there.

samsung nexus s 4 g .I seen on the play store description it say it was only for 2 motorola devices so that may be my issue.If not does anyone know how I could fix this to work .I installed latest busybox .I am running slimrom if that matters.

Boot Menu Manager is only for Motorola's OMAP4 device, so on any other device except tegra it wont work.

Yeah Ive been getting this as well. Just dont install busybox from the Play Store. Killed BMM on the install I had and needed to reflash.
I just ignore it and it seems to work alright for the most part. Only noticed this on a custom Roms. Stock rooted doesnt seem to have the problem even when using the busybox installer from play store.
