Hello,
I dont know if Im writting to correct subthread,
I was reading a lot of topics about it..
I bough that phone when it was released and I was happy that I got most powerful smartphone, but then I started playing games on it and everything was bad..
Some super graphic games like Shadowzone, Dead Trigger, Dead Space and Epic Citadel are without even little lag (+30-60FPS), but games like GTA Vice City or today released Dungeon Hunter 4 .. they are un-playable for me on my stock HTC One X even at lowest graphic settings.
I was reading that application on google play will let me boost CPU Frequency and my games will be lag free.
I just need to root my phone download that app boost my cpu freq. and play? Or I need to do anything else or do u have any recommendation for me?
Hows your HTC One X doing for gaming?
Thanks!

Heh, my finger catched thank button again instead of reply button!
My advice is to try a gaming kernel like XM kernel.
This guide is also really helpful, every method is available:

I really dont wanna do ROM/Kernel changes to my phone Im not experiences in this and I wanna run on stock and upgrade via oficial HTC updates. Is it possible with rooted phone?
I also heard I will lose all my apps and data when I root my phone.
Thanks

Root your device.
Download setCPU or Any other cpu app like the one you gave link of.
In the app choose interactive governor.
This will be helpful. But if you want better performance use gaming boost app, too.
More info available at the link I gave you.
Pretty simple but very helpful.

You can install ota's after root, just do NOT remove any system apps ! And after applying the root with the custom recovery you need to flash back the corresponding STOCK recovery.
When you UNLOCK the bootloader you will be put back to full factory stock, so yes. Nothing will be erased by applying root itself
You can however make backups of the stuff you need from the stock rom with the app called CARBON.
hope this helps you

Please tell me answer for this:
I got HTC One X but games on it are lagging for example Dungeon Hunter 4, Need for speed Most Wanted or other games by Gameloft.. Like Wild Blood etc...
If I root my phone and after that just download that setcpu application and set CPU frequeny to 1GHz will be my games lag-free? I wont do anything else I will just root my phone and download that application and set CPU frequency.
Thanks
The hox goes to 1500 mhz not just a 1000 .... But when all 4 cores are enabled they go up to max 1300 if i recall this right. To get real lag free you can install a custom kernel that allows unlocking the 4 cores to 1500 mhz at the same time.
There are even kernels that go up to 1700 mhz

Well I bough that phone because it was labeled as Most powerfull machine in 2012. It cost me 650 dollar and I though I will run every game on highest setting with lag-free experience .. and whoaa I cant play everygame and almost every third game is lagging on my HOX. I will buy iPhone as next phone really. This is ridicilous.
When its that strong why my HOX cant run these games without lag?
I saw a lot of videos of HOX running GTA Vice city on full graphic without lags and I cant even run it on minimal without frame drops. Why HTC dont include firmware to fix this? Its not in hardware its not in game its about HTC firmware.
Im quite noob in these kernels roms etc.. I dont want to break my phone it was quite expensive for me. I also want to update from oficial HTC server to prevent bricking my phone.
I think its more about the games being unoptimized for the t3 rather than the t3 itself.
Shadowzone used to be one of the games that lagged badly.

You'll need a combination of a custom KERNEL (that supports O/C) and a custom ROM (some come with an O/C daemon built in)
time for some reading.
Ok, so one more question just in case. May I use any ROM with any kernel or I have to match ROM to kernel (or opposite)?
Generally I would say custom roms come with the most suitable kernel.
The easiest way to overclock is to simply download an app from the market that will o/c your cpu.
Peace

Although I'd also as that unless you'r e intending on playing games then the desire s should be fast enough without over clocking as ultimately that will reduce battery life.even the sense 3 rooms when configured and optimised correctly don't lag at normal operating speeds

You're still on stock ROM right?
If so, install this kernel from recovery and SetCPU once done. OC away.

Yes, it would go a little faster
Seriously tho, it might run a little hotter, for a shorter length of time, and be slightly less stable - all depending on how much you overclock it, what settings you use, etc.
Try downloading an app from the market that will overclock your cpu and see what happens.

And NEVER max the oc setting. Some kernels allow up to 1.7ghz but your phone would be fried in a week and be incredibly unstable. Can't recommend going past 1.2ghz if you want your phone to last til your next upgrade date. For the most part though, oc is unnecessary on this phone.

I just read somewhere in other forum, if I overclock my phone, I will have problem on my phone.
Maybe because of the cpu overheat or what?
Basically, yes.
Why not use the phone as it is, and see how you like it? If you do decide to overclock, do it in small increments. Honestly, I find it fast enough at normal speeds, playing games, browsing, etc.

+1 to you. 1Ghz already fast enough. No lagging at all like some other phone.

I was quite interested in this overclocking buisness. I overcloked my phne to 1.7ghz, used it for a while and it froze twice, requiring a reboot.
There was definitely a speed incresas, but 1ghz on lbc mod is already plenty smooth!
Now I've set up setcpu profiles to have myphone only overclocked at 1.2ghz when its chargingand I'm using it. But also a profile to limit the temp at 41degrees to 825-245mhz.
But when its unplugged, u have left it on default at 1024-245mhz on demand. Great battery life compromised with great speed.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Maybe you'll need a voltage bump at 1.7GHz. But even if it's stable, it will definitely be hotter. Not good for long term.
1.1-1.2GHz should be stable for daily use.
I've recently tried the Quadrant Standard Benchmark and noticed that my phone's score is severely lower than that of other reviewer's benchmarks? I usually score between 960-1060. Any Idea why I'm not getting into the 1100s? Even my brother's Infuse reached 1300.
Quadrant scores necessarily don't mean squat. But just out of curiosity, what have you done to your phone? Are you running the stock shipped ROM?

I've just rooted it. Bricked it. Used the ultimate Unbrick for Rogers Infuse 4g. Now here I am. One thing I've thought of is space since I have lots of games but eve when I removed almost all of my downloaded Apps. The score hardly improved. I'm wondering whether for those games(mainly Gameloft) where they require a larger download to fully install, when you uninstall those games are the rest of the files from the extra download still on ur phone taking up space?

To be honest, if you're not noticing any lag then all should be fine. I recommend running a custom ROM. pretty much all the infuse roms convert your system to ext4 which is much faster than stock. If you need help with anything don't hesitate to ask, but in the right forum

Apps don't influence ur score much. These scores are based on how ur CPU, GPU and memory works, not based on how apps work.
Repeat the quadrant a couple times in a row. First run always seems to give lower values. After 1-2 runs, take average of next 2-3 and you will get the proper score.
Reboot your phone, give it some time to settle, and then run quadrant.
But like pointed above, stock ROMs give lower scores than custom mainly cos of faster file system. Plus, I enabled GPU based graphics by updating my build.xml and am getting about 1800 with my clock set at max 800.

apps running in the background can consume resources and affect the score. also rogers roms tend to score lower. it was that way on the captivate too. btw what's a build.xml? do you mean build.prop?
and to the op your score is in line with what you can expect. if you dont have any specific issues i wouldnt worry about it. quadrant is soo sensitive to atleast 2 areas (encoding/decoding media and file system reads) but not others that you can take an infuse to 4200 but it isnt gonna do too much that it didnt do before.

I've got a sgs+ I updated to android 2.3.5 from 2.3.3 it improved the overall lagginess abit. I have tried almost everything not too difficult to smoothen things out because I'm not really into custom rom kinda deep stuff. For instance, temple run, lags every 10 secs and I fail. Angry birds? Same thing. My buddy with SGS "classic" does not have any of these kind of problems.

If you want to have a better gaming experience (no lag..) you can either buy a phone with a stronger cpu, or root (which is really easy) and see if there is any custom kernels available for your device. With a custom rom and kernel you can make your phone more powerful than it is by increasing the speeds of your cpu. Phone's that don't have enough power don't play certain games well. I know you said you aren't into roms... It's really not that complicated. There is no way to make your phone more powerful, than to root and install a custom rom and kernel... Hope that helped.

The only problem with that is that the sgs+ has a 1.4ghz processor *COUGH*. its a single core but 1.4 is more than enough for temple run or angry birds. have you checked what programs are in the background? maybe there is a process that is polling every few seconds and lags the phone.

Yeah my phone too can get pretty laggy crashy and unstable when I am using it allot without turning it off.
ICS on my Samsung Gio lagged allot so I had to switch back to an earlyer version which increased my CPU performance by 400%, (however, graphic performance change was almost negligible)
You could also try something like a2sd, if you already have something like that your SDcard might be slow. (I suggest you get some confirmation on this one from more experienced android users before actually going and buying a new one, since I am quite new to this whole android stuff).
Hope I could be of service,
R.
You probably have a lot of apps running at the background. Try installing a 3rd party app manager and end all apps. I mean all. Should work. If not then your phone has a problem. SGS+ SHOULDN'T lag behind the SGS not unless the SGS is rooted.
What is your "better phone for games"? Will it be released for ever?
Buy an iPhone for 0 lag gaming.. Android has some lags.
If you don't want to root and install ROMs then pretty much your only option is to uninstall unnecessary services and apps. Try uninstalling an app, testing the game, and keep uninstalling untill you know which app is possibly the offending one.

Rebooting helps for some 10 minutes, I really don't want to reboot that often. My phone goes 40-50fps but lags 1/4 seconds every 10 secs. I sometimes get bigger fps drops when playing reckless racing 2. I guess that is for dual core processors, but mostly it runs fairly well apart from those little lags

Sigh...... advanced task killers or any of them are just a pile or **it, they just use up ram, on android we all know theres no way to close all apps, they'll just keep opening anyway and they can't close most apps. It drains your battery and has your processors trying harder with a ram drainage. Absolutely USELESS.

hello
dear user it may occur to you that sometimes when you apply a custom rom to a phone it is now built right for that phone because of all the different specs to that phone so it would be best advised to stick with the set defaults if you don't realy know what you are doind (like me) but also you could try and root is (universil androrot) and then use some programs like memory booster or just un install some apps from your device all together so free up some of the phones memorry.
hope it helped daveveej.
If anyone doesn't have this app for CPU over/under clocking, you probably use NoFrills CPU because SetCPU costs money. But you may want to consider buying it after the latest update.
Besides spcific profiles for time of day, screen off, and in call, where you can set CPU freuencies under those conditions, the latest update has added APP SPECFIC profiles!
This means you can keep your CPU underclocked for basic use, but when it comes time to game, say for FPSE, you can just make a profile to overclock the CPU whenever FPSE is actively running. No more manually changing it when you want that extra boost!
Really makes things easy.
Thanks for doing this!
Thanks for the Tip, i bought me SetCpu last week to OC/UC my phone and its a really nice app
Ahhh after updating I keep getting fc when doing anything with the profiles, and my phone dead locks when the screen is off. This is a HTC Mecha rooted with InfectedROM Nightly on it. Do you need anything else?
I'm having no FC issues. Try asking on your phone's forum. This is the Xperia Play forum. Or contact the dev.

There is no noticeable issues with doomkernal for gingerbread as it's been out so long he has it perfected. Also any over clocking up to1.4 is classed as running (cool) anything over is a risk (hot). You should have no issues at 1.2 had 1 of our plays set around that since overclocking came about for play and never had issues.

You sound like you already know the answer to your question....so yes, go for it!!! If you aren't OCing the phone to high for long periods of time then IMO you have nothing to worry about. Doomkernel is amazing with CWM built in and prerooted. There is also a Doomkernel that's just advanced stock without OC/UC but still has CWM. Honestly some games need OC and "Root access" is a necessity for me. There is no down-side to rooting phone that I can think of.

to all those very knowledgeable xda members, i've been considering unlocking my bootloader, installing doomkernel, using SetCPU to overclock to 1.2GHz and all.. but i have really serious questions that concern me a lot.. i'd be happy if you great guys could answer them real quick and concise..
First, what are the known bugs DoomKernel might give?
Second, will heating be a problem if i overclock even at just 1.2GHz? it is so hot here in my country & i even reach as high as 49 degrees celcius on my phone right after playing a game on a really sunny day.. is overclocking not advised for me?
Thanks!

1.2 will most likely be fine, but I've heard every phone's different. Just try.
What's the latest version number?

3.0.0
Sent from my R800i using XDA
i am overclocking 1.8 never had a problem
Since I've installed the 3.0.0 I don't know why Superuser shows me a notification of SetCPU by a certain time... When I'm playing an emulator, surfing the internet or doing a call.
Anyone have this problem?
I was getting notifications too, but I thought it was because I enabled profiles..

The best way is to disable notification when you use profiles.
Working with profile loaded on apps like Browser.
But not with N64oid or Mupen :/
Guys do any of you know why my Desire S Hangs while running GTA3 for like 5 mins while MED settings, and hangs after few seconds on max settings . It looks like something to do with RAM as if its getting full faster or slower, but it would be nice to be able to play it without hangs
BTW i am new to this devise and For the monent i am running official MIUI V4 (newest version) with Tweaked3_7.1-MIUI_StockICS KERNEL at 1400OC-smartass v2-bfq (second day with this phone so its my first setup (hit me to the head if its faulty))
No worries, looking at your posts you are progressing very fast
smartassV2 is designed for battery saving so do not rely on it for performance. Set ondemand/deadline and smash that game
Do not cry for the battery though

THX for advise . But at these settings it hangs 2 seconds after spawning in-game on med settings, maybe its something to do with freq. of cpu? What is supposed to be most stable FREQ. OC? I am using 1401Mhz maybe its not stable

Or maybe MIUI with its disabled hardware acceleration is not the best choose for gaming
With the settings I gave you above I have highest FPS in Antutu benchmark

I just tried lowering FREQ it still hangs.....
I dont think that Miui being bad choise for gaming is cousing this, becouse until it hangs game is running smoothly. And HANGS means it stops on that frame and phone is nolonger responsive until i remove battery and start again
Do not pull battery you may end with new bricked DS. Have you undervolted?
EDIT: don't know what version of GTA are you using but it may be the game itself. Look here

Yeah its probably game related so i will try to delete all game data and download it again, this game data is from my old phone's SD card maybe files will be different in some way(anyway we will see).
Thanks for help man :good: + rep for you. And by the way I figure you have a lot more experiance with roms than i do :
What would be build (ROM+kernel) that you would recommend me to try next? I dont need real gaming rom i just sometimes have few extra minutes in work or in college that i need to spend somehow and gaming is a good way. What i would like is overall average perfomance 50%battery -50%perfomance or something similar if possible

Much quicker and better to simply press the 'Thanks' button for a post you found useful. You are limited to 8 per day if you do it through the website, or unlimited if you use the app.
