Hello,
I bought this charger off ebay and the seller claims that it is a OEM samsung charger. When I try charging my tablet I get a red X over the battery and it takes forever to charge. I have read that this usually happens when not using the OEM charger. So I am wondering if this is in fact a OEM charger or if I have a different issue.
Yep thats a OEM charger for your tablet, mine does the X when charging some times but it does a full charge in about 2-3 hours.

Thanks for the reply. Mine does the X but it takes 6-8 hours to fully charge. Anything I can do to get it to charge faster?

Is the seller buzzz or something? I got two from them with the same problem. I think that it may work with their "OEM" cable, but not with real OEM ones. I compared the chargers they sent me to the one that came with a GT2, and they were slightly different. The writing is different in size, the removable plug stuck out a bit when I changed it from one to the other, and the top plastic plate (the area around the USB jack) was thicker on the one they sent me. But without the two next to each-other, not easy to tell the difference.
As someone else suggested, getting or making that adapter will probably take care of it. There are instructions on here for how to make that adapter, something about either cutting or shorting the center pins on a cable. That would make the cable not usable for data though. You could search for USB charging in the GT+ or GT2 forum.

Yes, the seller was bzzybees or something like that. They sent me two chargers and neither of them work. I plugged my brother OEM charger into my tablet and it charges like normal so I am guessing he isn't selling OEM chargers.

Yep, I guess the best thing would be to report it to ebay. I didn't because I had an extra cable so I just figured I'd make it work. Haven't worked on it yet though.

So I was wondering if I could find the original G2 wall charger, the one that came in the box. I bought my phone from craigslist and that guy didnt have the charger for some reason. I've been using some motorola one and very happy with it cause it didnt have rapid charging and battery life was great too (not sure if the charger plays a role). But couple weeks ago the wire got loose and wouldnt connect properly, so I bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...331986&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1184wt_950
Ever since I've been using that my phone goes to 100% from 10% in two hours, and battery life has been bad too since using that. I have used the phone the same was as before, I even calibrated it again, tried it with setcpu and no setcpu, used edge only also, tried different roms, used just wifi only etc, and battery life still not same as before. I mean it has to be the charger right? Otherwise it wouldnt have made a difference in using a different one. So I'm trying to find opinions from you guys to see if I can find the original one ( I have no idea what it looks like) or a similar one from ebay/amazon. Thanks for reading!
What is the rated Output on the charger that you have? The stock one is supposed to put out 1 Amp (1000 ma). It isn't uncommon for it to go from 10 to 'full' in 2 hours, but just because the phone shows it full, doesn't mean its there. Are you charging overnight or just for that 2 hour period?
Yes I am charging overnight. Output says 5V, 1A, so I'm guessing thats 1000ma/1Amp?
The G2's cord is rounder at the USB end and the Plug- in end, but I would think it would not make a giant difference since I use a Motorola one since I don't know where my original one went.
OEM HTC charger
I'm not sure if your still looking, but i bought a Brand New OEM HTC charger from eBay. It was the same thing that came with G2. I'm pretty sure by the time you see this it will be sold but they list them everyday so just look at the sellers other items.
Since I'm a new user i cant post links, but the item number is 160619103766

That is the maximum current supported by the charger, but the device may request a lower current. Use something like Battery Monitor Widget or Current Widget to see how much current is actually being drawn over the USB port. The most accurate reading will be taken when the screen is off, the CPU is idle and underclocked, all radios are off, etc.
I had a cheap no-name AC adapter for my DZ, but it caused the touchscreen to go bonkers. I ended up buying one of these adapters:
http://canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=039726
Inexpensive, and having two USB ports is very convenient. One goes to my Mugen DZ charging cradle (phone + spare battery), the other to my BT headset. Any standard USB cable will work. It does not cause problems with the touchscreen, so I can continue to use the phone even while it is charging.
The best I've seen on a DZ is about 650 mA net charge, which means an empty 1800 mAh battery should be fully charged in about 3 hours.
I've seen logs of my dz charging at 680-780mA, so long as you have a 1A output charger it should charge the same. The output is the max rated output, not what its feeding to the phone to charge.
On that note most moto chargers I've seen are 700mA max out and same with a lot of samsung chargers I've owned. I use my original that came with my g2 as well as an old htc diamond wall charger with a sony usb cable lol, I get the same charge from both.

I need an extra USB cable for charging my N4 in my car because I use a Scosche dual USB charger 2.1 amp. Will any USB cable be fine like the one in the link below or should I be looking for anything specific? I don't want something to mess up my N4 battery.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd like to get a couple extra USB wall chargers and micro USB cables to go with them. I'd like it to be as efficient and safe as possible for my Nexus 4 as well as friends that may need a charger. (N4 taking priority here)

Well as long as the power supplied is 5V (the usb standard) and under 1.2 amp (the output of the factory wall adaptor) you should be safe not burning out your phone. If you are just asking about a usb to micro usb cable then it shouldn't matter since the cable should supply the right voltage anyways.

The phone will only take the amps that it needs. I would get a 2A+ charger to be on the safe side.

Actually used it for my Nexus 7 and when I got my Nexus 4 I always used it for that. Never even bothered opening up my stock charger or cable. Dual port is nice if you want to charge 2 devices at 1 amp each without having a bunch of chargers plugged in.

Woah! Thanks man! I've been looking everywhere for this! Haha
I love the OEM USB Cable, especially cause it fits with all of my cases.
I would love to get the OEM charger, but after my current one acting up (usb wire for some reason keeps making it say usb charging despite being plugged into wall outlet), I'm cautious.

This is one of the reasons I bought the oem charger. Had the ac/usb issue. Changed wires and still does that. Used my gnex charger and it didn't give me problems. So I said it must be the charger itself. Bought the new one and now I'm confident when plugging my phone in. No more issues on the ac/usb charging thing

Hmm... for me, I changed the wires and it works. I think I would rather just save the $10 and put it towards the "wheneveritisreleased" Wireless Charging Orb.....or the TYLT VU when it comes out in April.
Hi guys, I have a few micro USB chargers lying around. Just wondering if using these would harm my N4:
12 V, 500mA
5 V, 2.1 A
5 V, 1.9 A
5 V, 1 A
The 12 V 500mA charger makes my phone's screen go haywire (applications opening and closing by themselves) but it does charge the phone.

at least you narrowed it down fast to the wire. in my case after swapping just the wires it was still the same. then when i used the original n4 charger on my gnex, my gnex suddenly had the ac/usb charging issue. my problem with not getting another charger was i sometimes charge both phones at the same time so i needed one more. good thing a couple of searches led me to the buychina site and now all works well.
I am very interested in this topic as I believe I'm going to need a new USB > MicroUSB cable. My cat accidentally knocked off my N4 while it was charging using the original cable/charger. While it seems the charger itself is okay, the cable is what I am worried about. The end seems slightly bent and, while it will plug into the N4 (which will report charging) it doesn't go as "easily". From visual inspection I think the problem is with the cable's microUSB end; I really hope that the N4's socket itself is not bent/damaged in anyway, but I cannot see any visual signs thereof.
I was really hoping to pick up another OEM charging kit, but it appears that (assuming they are legit ) that one can only find them on Taobao/ChinaBuy as linked above? I was hoping Amazon would have them. With this in mind, will there be anything specific to look for finding another "USB to MicroUSB cable" from Amazon to use with the existing, undamaged OEM charger? Thanks.
I'm no expert but I believe there shouldn't be any issue of you get a different cable. I've used an HTC, Samsung and Asus calls with the LG charger and there aren't any issues. If it's just the cable you need, go with Amazon. It'll be faster

Great, thanks. It seems logical that all "USB A > MicroUSB B" cables should be capable of the same thing, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something that would say, impair my ability to use this cable for not only charging with the OEM wall charger, but charging from my PC's USB ports, connecting to said PC via USB Debugging for rooting/flashing etc...

DUDE!!!! The 12V charger can KILL your phone.. The phone is designed for 5volts..
As long as the charger supplies 5 volts it is okay... even a 10 amp charger will work fine (if availiable ).. The current is controlled by the device (nexus 4 in this case).. It will draw how much current it requires.. Voltage on the other hand is decided by the charger.... 12volts will fry the device...

Oops, thanks for this heads up! I've used the 12V charger for weeks without any noticeable damage (though the screen goes haywire when it is plugged in). I'll switch to the original N4 charger now.
I Have A Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 I Got It About 8 Months Ago I've Used The Samsung Official Charging "Cable" For Most Of That 8 Months but about 2 months ago the cable became loose at the Samsung cable to tablet end exposing the wires so I was careful with it and put it away and used my friends official cable then he needed it back so I went off and brought a generic cheep cable for $3.50 So all was good there but slowly I've noticed my battery going crazy like taking longer to charge "2 Days to full" and things like it discharging by 2% when I am on Google while its on charge and when its off charge playing 1 game uses almost all the battery.
so being the awesome soldier that I am I made myself a 5cm cable hoping that the long cable I was using had something to do with it but still I had the problems listed above so I did some Googleing and maybe a 2.5A charger would be helpful But its not recommended. also I sent a email to Samsung and being the "SUPER HELPFULL COMPANY THAT THEY ARE" has not responded to my emails in the past week's Also I Spoke To A live chat person thing and Being "Soo Helpful! " Said that its a hardware fault and I need to take it into a Samsung repair place and fork out $100+ Bucks to get it fixed "HELL NO AnT No BoDy GoT TiMe FoR ThAt" so I didn't go to Samsung to get it repaired so I want to know if any of you guys out there have any idea to fix this problem im having because its so hard to do anything.
Just Checking my emails while its on charge uses %4, On Google for like 5 mins Uses 2%, Playing A Game For 30Mins Uses Well Almost Flattens It, And Watching Some YouTube Takes It Down To 0% And Then Shuts Down( I Watch Lost Of Videos) All This While Its On Charge
At The Moment How Im Copeing Is I Carry Arrount An Inverter And A 12V Battery To Keep It Charging
The SGN 10.1 charging cable is a specially designed cable to deliver 2.1A 5V to the device.
Most "cheap" cable on the market can only deliver 0.5A - 1A 5V when used to charge SGN 10.1
You should find the correct cable specifically built for SGN 10.1

Thanks but how can a cable make all the difference i managed to charge off my old one its just got exposed wires and it still drains when i use it
Are you certain that the battery is actually draining that fast and not simply misreporting it in the UI?
I had a similar problem where the battery didn't seem to last but I eventually noticed that a reboot would completely change the amount of charge remaining, sometimes by as much as 20%. I cleared the battery stats and is been fine since.

If you don't want an OEM cable and charger you can buy a crap chinese one. But as you and many others have discovered - they suck. This is one of the biggest complaints I have always heard about Samsung.
The solution, and the only on that I have found that works 100% of the time is to buy a replacement from Samsung. Period. Nothing else works like the OEM parts because they aren't OEM parts.

The wiring on the OEM cable is somehow different than most cheap cable.
I'm experimenting by buying a 3M long "cheap" N8000 cable on eBay, may be it can help (delivery time is VERY long )

What ROM are you using?
Stock or Custom?
Rooted or not?
If you are Rooted (Stock or Custom) you can use Battery Calibration app to erase batterystats.bin to calibrate your battery percentage which are needed if you change ROM.

$60 just for a cable? Really? I live in the UK and I bought a whole new charger (official Samsung one, too, including a cable) for about £12 on amazon. Just go to Amazon and replace the charger, it sounds like it'll be cheaper than just the cable (probably 15-20 USD or maybe 30-35 AUD, I'm not sure what the rate is and where you live ) and if it is a charger related issue that'll be fixed too.
Just so you know, I bought the 'travel charger' (the white one) and it works perfectly. Supplies the same current and voltage, and it's a smaller unit, and cheaper! I'd just look into getting one of those.
Gday All,
I realise that this topic has been mentioned in a few threads, but from what I could find, there is no definiteve fix.
Is there a way to disable this so that a non-genuine charger will work once the screen turns off, or if I was to root the device, is there then a way to do it.
Please dont flame me, I'm a total newb to android, and I dont mind admitting that.
Bit dissapointed that Samsung has sunk to this.
TIA!
Not sure what issues you are having but I have been using a few different chargers without issue. Which exact charging method are you trying to use (cable type, charger type, charger rated output voltage and amperage)?
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
The problem isn't that the charger is 3rd party.
The problem is that the device requires a 5.1V 2A charger or higher.
Anything lower than that is simply not powerful enough. You can find these specs in small lettering on the charger. Most cheap 3rd party launchers are 5V 1A.

I was one of the ones having problems with it needing to have the screen on to charge. It was a problem with the charger (yes, it was marked as a high amperage charger), changed to a different one (Anker 40W 5 port) and it's working fine.

Huge second on the Anker. I love that charger by the way. With various devices I would get irritated with some refusing to charge on certain chargers (my BlackBerry Bold in particular). I've since switched to the Anker 5 port 40 Watt and no longer worry about which cable I'm reaching for. Every device gets the power it needs with no fuss.

That's because the retention rate of the S3's charger is higher than that of a generic cheap 3rd party one. Where the S3 charger actually delivers 0.8-1A, the cheaper ones usually average around 0.5A.
This is why charging over a usb 2.0 port without any power boosts also (usually, there have been some exceptions) doesn't work.
I usually charge mine with my Note 3 or S5 charger, as the three are all the same charger.
Any one have reccomendations on some after market fast chargers? My dog chewed up my Samsung one.
First be a new dog. Then I seen 2 on here but everyone tends to go back to Samsung.

I got the Getwow fast charger from Amazon. So far, it works as it should. I have not experienced any problems. It was 15.99. FYI, Getwow also has a car charger version.
I got a Puregear as a spare. works just fine
Saw the other day. Shop, Android central had the samsung oem. Which is odd bc samsung last I thought didn't have then in their website to sell.
I have a Tenergy fast charger and a Power Partners Fast Charger. Both work as good and even better than the OEM Samsung charger. I got them on Amazon and they were about $20 - $25. The Power Partners charger comes with a 20 awg usb cord but it's 3 feet. They recommend using the provided cord for the best results. The specs are insane though. 5V-4A, 9V-2.22A, 12V-2.5A, or 20V-1A. I have tested it on several devices and they charge twice to three times faster (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 especially) and I haven't had any issues with heat and/or battery life nor faster battery depletion. The Tenergy is 5V-2A, 9V-2A, or 12V-1.5A and works perfect as well. The only thing about the Power Partners which hasn't been an issue just very.......different is that is has a pretty high pitched current noise. It's like a whistling noise when charging but it is cooler to the touch than the OEM Samsung and Tenergy chargers.
got my tenergy charger on friday, works wonderful
I ordered the Getwow home and car charger set from Amazon and it doesn't work. Still trying to find a good backup as well..
have the getwow unit and verified AC charger works. are you using the getwow or samsung cable. you need to use a data cable(just in case you weren't aware) and not a charge cable.

I'm using the cable they provided. Tried both cables they sent, nothing. Used the cables in my laptop and Xbox One and the phone charged.
This one from Verizon is the best one out there and I've tried them all.
I did buy the getwow ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q6H51F0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) since having two ports was a great idea (one QC plus one 2.1A port). The first 2 didn't work and the replacement 2 are working well.
One more thing: it is not QC certified (not listed on QC's website)

I didn't know the base plug lit up too, I thought it was just the micro usb cable end. I wanted to get that originally, but it was too expensive for me.

Get a replacement. You might have a defective unit. My Getwow works well with my Note 4.

And you can see this light from across the whole house and the red ring of light goes out when the phone is completely charged.
Great Charger, I don't even use the stock Samsung one anymore.
