Help rooting - Motorola Atrix 2

I'm hoping someone might have an idea to help me. I recently purchased an atrix 2 and later found out the USB port is broke. So I was wondering if anyone might know how to root over
Wi-Fi. I've found a few apps that allow for adb over Wi-Fi, but none that do it without root. So anyone with any ideas, would be helpful.

Been doing research and found two possible answers to my problem. But I still need help. First I found ota rootkeeper. I figured as I have two Ics devices, that I could use the root backup from one for the other. However I don't know where the backup files are located so I can move them over to the phone.
The other option I thought of was using the stock recovery to flash root files. I seen a number of websites that have these kind of files, however when I try to use these files the recovery program kicks them for all different reasons.

neither of those methods will work with the A2. I'm not sure you are going to be able to do it without USB. I'd open it up and try to fix the pins if you are good with soldering. if it can charge, only the data one(s) are bad.

This is why I hate 1 click methods. Best way would be to find your stock rom and flash the partitions through fastboot
This should get you going...

You could also use Odin to restore phone back to stock.

That one is bad ! Seen few people flashing 4G rom bundle on their NS, and haven't seen anyone fixing frequencies problem . Apparently 4G bundles change something that wipe/format can't fix.
Hope there's some manual fix, because more and more people reporting this problem. Someone with dev experience should know where to look, i guess...
The freq fix may be achieved by deleting three files in the efs folder, but you must be very careful. Follow method 2 in the radio thread in the dev section. Make a backup first.

First of all, thank you so much for replying to my post and the help.
A quick Q:
Will trying this thru CWM will fail b/c my phone at the moment thinks its a NS4G when its a NS. (I haven't tried it out of fear of bricking). I ask because I notice CWM will be removed on reboot thus taking away a "safety net" of sorts.

It may fail. That's why I recommended flashing the individual partitions via fastboot.

Atrix 2 bricked installing Blaze ROM

Pls help-
I'm not quite a noob, but def no dev... got my Atrix 2 rooted using mastermind's 1-click method, installed bootstrap & flashed clockworkmod recovery- everything went fine until trying to flash/restore the ROM itself. I followed the instructions to the letter (save ROM in cwm backup folder, wipe cache & data, do not flash zip... restore in recovery). Yet i've bricked 2 atrix 2's trying to install this rom. Luckily the store I work at was good about letting me switch out, but kinda scared to brick a 3rd device. It just errors on restore then goes back to cwm. I try to reboot and cant get past the moto startup screen.. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong, cuz I know it should work (there are screenshots in the thread)... any help?

Did you unzip the rom and then put the contents in the backup folder?
You do know that you are more than likely going to be charged full price of the phone if you are returning a bricked phone to the store.

Why not flash the FXZ and start over?

Luckily I work for a phone sales store, so they didn't charge me full price, as I blamed the phone bricking on a "bad software update" (which is kinda true- if the rom had restored properly, I wouldn't have been bricked in the 1st place)
; )
and it was still within the exch. period anyway... But that's neither here nor there... Yez, I unzipped the folder into the cwm backup folder. Not sure about reflashing fxz, havent tried that yet... don't really know how, never had to do that? I've flashed dozens of roms on my HTC & Samsung galaxy phones, but this is my first exp. w/ moto. So any help u can give is appreciated.

I had a similar problem, found the unzipped folder nested 2x under clockwork/backup.
Like this
sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/myrom/myrom
What I did was move all the files from second folder to the first then deleted second folder.
Hope I am clear and that it helps.

I actually did find an extra set of files in the cwm backup folder & deleted them... so ur pretty confident that I should be able to install this ROM now? and (just to clarify) I don't need to flash the zip before restoring in cwm (that just doesn't make sense to me, but w/e works)? Thx for ur help

Unzip rom, move the folder with the 2 files, to CWM/BACKUP.....boot into recovery, choose BACKUP/RESTORE, and restore the rom.

So the problem is that you stuck on motorola dual core logo?
Just try to flash fxz,it's pretty simple. You just need the file you need and let the pc doing everything while you watching a tv.
I got this problem twice when i try to flash victory rom this morning, wich is caused by a corrupt file.
And everything is sorted out by flashing fxz.
Trust me,it works! (It sounds like commercials on tv )
You can always boot to recovery and when you see the android with the exclamation press both volume rockers to reset to factory.

The devs have got some roms from other moto phones to boot but have problems mostly with the radio and probably a handful of other things. I would highly recommend you not try to do this. We have plenty of good roms here in the dev section that you can flash that are good roms. Generally if you follow the instructions for each rom you would be fine but if you are afraid of bricking your phone make sure you read a lot before attempting anything and always make sure you have a way back to stock.

Pantech Burst Root Help

Has anyone figured out how to root the Pantech Burst without a PC? I am using a Mac, and after a lot of searching I got my phone to go into Fastboot using Androtility. Now Im trying to push prestoroot.img but I cant get any command to work in Terminal.
If anyone can give me some tips to get me to the next step it would be awesome. Or if someone knows of an alternative rooting method. One click apps havent worked unfortunately.

Anywhere you see "adb push" You can also just copy the file to the phone. I made install.zip files for the ICS update to root, install CWM,Install the old bootloader. Just copied them to the external SD card and fastbooted CWM. You can install those all in one swipe in CWM and then just reboot. I think we had the same problems only on different systems. That was my workaround.

Rooted and unlocked....now what?

I have rooted my 4.0.4 gs3 Verizon with the VRLG7 baseband. I unlocked the bootloader as well. I have read a ton of stuff on flashing roms and it doesn't seem to all click to me. All I have done is use the command prompt tool to root it and then ez unlock to unlock it. I want to get an AOKP jelly bean rom but I don't know what to do now as far as recovery and all that stuff. I don't have an SD card but I don't care about wiping my phone since I only have a couple apps and my contacts which are stored through my Google account. Anyone care to guide me step by step on what to download to manage roms and what to do from here to get to AOKP?

Follow one of the three very well written guides in the Dev section. Your next step is a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP), then you'll need to use the guide in the IMEI backup thread to make sure you don't cause yourself a headache, then go into the original development thread and flash away til' your hearts content.
It will help you lots to read all the guides and threads for the roms you're interested in, etc so that you don't panic if something goes wrong. At some point, it's likely you'll soft brick so make sure you understand how to use ODIN in the event you need to get back to where you started, etc. Download files / programs needed, etc. to your computer so they're handy and you have a personal library of things you will need.
PS- having an SD card even if it's just a 1gb or 2gb card will help you big time and make it a bit easier for you.
Does it matter if I didn't use ODIN to originally root my gs3 but will eventually use it if I soft brick?

Download the latest CWM Recovery and flash it as you did the previous, would be smart to get the CWM Touch version.
Well lets see with a rooted phone, you can install apps from various APK files, some of which allow you to use your device as a tethered modem for a laptop or Tablet. What more can you do with a rooted phone, well you can install various custom ROM's, but if you are not familiar with that aspect, READ, READ, and READ some more take several days to read on how to do it, before you download anything to do it. NO ONE will take responsibility for anything that you do to your device, except for yourself. You brick it you buy it.
There are a LOT of custom ROMs out there, read up on them, and find one that suits you. Don't just flash the first one you see, be as best informed as you can possibly be.
thanks, right now im trying to backup my efs folder, but the apps i tried ktool and efs pro says it doesnt support the skyrocket. what else could i do?

Get Super Manager from market. Copy the whole EFS folder to an external sd card. Then from there copy it over to your comp. This way you have two backups of the whole thing.
My phone is rooted, what would be the best way for me to unlock the tethering option without having to pay for it? I would prefer a way to do it like by root explore and changing some values as to installing an app....any input would be great. And yes I'm rooted on stock ics, from att

After I had rooted mine, I went in and was able to use tethering WITHOUT an app, nor making changes. (that I recall). Mine was still ICS Stock but rooted.

Flash the moded 6.0.15 cwm recovery from sk8erwitskil in the dev section and it has the option to backup the efs as an img..Just copying the efs folder will not do a crap for you cause the permissions are messed up this way...And by the way learn to do things by your own (by reading here) ... Its xda here not a cooking forum and links to google play store..
