As the tittle says I had success installing R10 twice on my Verizon Galaxy S3 and when installing R11 it just stays on the first boot screen and pretty much a soft brick because it just keeps rebooting it self. The first time I tried installing R11 it actually took a long time on the HyperDrive boot animation that I took battery off and tried to start it again but same thing it will just hang in there, I didn't try wiping cache at all which I should of tried in the first place instead of trying re-installing it again. This is probably my 5th time trying to install and I also downloaded the rom on two separate computers to see if was a broken download but it does the same thing on both files. Is there maybe a file on the zip file that I can edit so it can make it past the first boot screen and get it to actually boot? I tried different kernels, different ad-dons etc I am also using TWRP recovery and I feel like I should try CWM to see if it will actually make it boot.
Have you checked the file's md5? I had a bad download earlier that resulted in a messed up install.

Yes I just checked and both files match to the one posted on HyperDrive original post
Edit: Just added image for proof
This is what I get after I finish installing the rom it says FAILED in TWRP, could this be why it is not working? And if so how could I fix this
After messing with the addons I came to a conclusion that the XPERIAZ theme it's what is causing the bootloops because I was able to run the rom with the galaxy s4 theme and so far no problems at all.

Hi all, complete newby. Have an old galaxy 7. running really slow and was getting annoyed i cant run some of the latest apps. SO decided to attempt to put a Rom up to Jellybean.
1. I put the CWMOD on using odin by following a tutorial I found. went ok
2. I followed tutorial to copy the rom to my root.
3. completed Datawipe/reset
4.cleared cache
5.cleared Dalvik cache
6. Installed zip from sd card.
It didnt work. it said it was not supported / error had occurred.
So decided to wipe again and tried again a couple of times. still did'nt work. Plan B load AOKP_p1_build 38.
I Did as above and seemed to be going okay until reboot. it returned me to a modified CWmod screen that is now turquoise in colour instead of orange. when i reboot I get the galaxy screen, then the AOKP screen, but then it jumps to the CWMod boot screen.
I dont know what to do now?? any help greatly appreciated.
UPDATE
I managed to get it running after a few resets and cache wipes. Ive noticed after the fact that I didnt use Nandroid or bootstrap or anything like that. this was because i was not bothered about losing any pictures etc.
However:
I now get the 'cannot use android keyboard' message. I stopped and cleared its cache in settings, but this hasnt helped. searching around I have realised I caused this issue by installing newer Gapps than the android build.
My questions are...
1. Can I download and install a newer AOKP build for my Galaxy 7 GT-P1000, and a newer Gapps?
2. Can someone provide me with links for the AOKP build and Gapps if so?
3. Do I follow the same process as I did to get these on?
Hi, I'm new here.
So I've got kind of a funny problem.
It involves my root system folder.
I neglected to make a back-up in my haste to make a custom boot animation for my Samsung Galaxy Rush.
It had .qmg format for the files so I flashed a zip that I believed would allow me to easily install a new boot animation.
But something kind of strange happened. The mod worked, but not in the way you'd expect. A few hours before I installed the mod I purchased Rom Toolbox Pro that has Boot Animations included with it. I tried to install one that I thought was nice before I realized that it was specifically for an HTC Eris. Luckily for me, the install failed from the app, so I was left with the same old Boost Mobile animation on start-up. Funny thing though, is I found a few more appropriate boot animations in the same app that I'd prefer and they also failed to install. Although I believe the Eris one was my first attempt.
So then I install bootanimation4U, from a developer on this site, and much to my chagrin, instead of the bootanimation.zip I put into my system > media folder, the HTC Eris boot animation showed up upon restart instead.
Can anyone explain this?
Or at least inform me on how to return my boot animation back to normal?
just flash the stockrom to return to the normal boot animatian

I don't have a stock rom. Samsung Galaxy Rush is kind of obscure. I don't think there's anything about them on this site.
I'm kind of a noob. Could you explain how I could manage this?
Well. Actually. I do have a stock rom I could flash. But I'm not sure I trust the source exactly. It's not from xda.
I suppose I could make a back-up.

Okay. I flashed the only stock rom I could find and it wont load past the samsung screen.

Problem solved, but I flashed a custom ROM. Boot animation still gone.
Hey Everybody
I'm new to the whole rooting process, which I did fine on Saturday the 4th of October 2014. Today (October 8th 2014) I tried to install Cyanogen using the installer, it said it worked, but when my phone rebooted it was in the original version of touchwhiz that came with my Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 Rogers version. I wanted to get my files back, so I went into CWM and tried to recover, which didn't work. I tried again and again and it finally loaded my apps, but I had no service and I was spammed with "failure to load .gapps.google" or something like that. I went into CWM and wiped cache, tried again, same issue. I then wiped everything, went back into it and it still was NOT working. What do I do? I have no service at all! I've tried pulling the SIM and putting it back, but no success. Please HELP!
EDIT: I flashed stock ROM using ODIN, which worked. I would still like to know why CWM didn't work though, and if it is still possible to try to get it to work

Anybody?
I'm a beginner myself, and i do not know much about installing custom roms on samsung phones, but maybe you did not flash a compatible custom kernel to support the custom rom? it seems like you did not flash gapps either, but that should not stop you from getting network service. my last guess would be that you need to also install a baseband perhaps. all this information should be there in the galaxy s3 section of the forums.

Hey there, first off, thank you for replying.
I didn't manually use odin or other flashing software to flash the ROM. Unlike the rooting method (which went smoothly) I used the cyanogen mod installer. The installer itself said that cyanogen was installed successfully, but it was not. After it said this, my screen (on the phone) turned off, and I was brought to a fresh install of touchwhiz. I've actually fixed the networking issue by flashing touchwhiz stock, but that still doesn't explain why my CWM backup wasn't working.
I see...I haven't used the cyanogen mod installer myself so cannot say...
What I suggest is that, if you're up for trying again, to manually flash a rom - either Cyanogenmod or any other. There seem to be a lot of good roms available for your phone, and whichever rom you choose will come with instructions for how to install. The usual method will involve the following steps as far as I know:
- Root
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash Custom Kernel with recovery
- Flash ROM
- Flash GAPPS
These steps are not difficult at all as long as you follow the instructions for your specific phone. I have a Sony Xperia SL and thats how I installed a custom rom on it many times. Sorry I could not help much not knowing Samsung procedures but good luck!

OK,
Download stock ROM for your device from Samsung-updates.com according to device model and region.
Then flash it with Odin.
Good luck
The Afterlife6.0 was said to be compatible with my Nitro 401D which has the aame MTK no.
However, whenever I try to flash it (using cwm) it says installation aborted. It doesnt say any status about it eg Status 6 or Status 7 but i still used the fix for one which is trying to change the name in the updater script to fit the name of my phone but when I looked, it doesnt have that particular line for checking the name. And the other one was changing the directory of the lines in it but I didnt want to change it because i wasnt so sure about the directories myself.
Ive tried downloading from another source, still didnt work. Now Im wondering maybe its my phone so Ive been considering using SP flash to force it in(? Im still not quite sure what it does tho) and also change my custom recovery (currently cwm) to twrp or ctr. Maybe my phone cant flash anything at all so ive been also considering trying to flash a small file or like a test rom, are there any of those?
What should I do next? Im scared of forcing it in causr it says that if the phone has the wrong preloader my phone can never be recovered..

From everything I have done on trying to root this phone, I guess MTKdroid tools installed CWM in the process. It is rooted now tho, checked with rootchecker basic. I havent tried any other roms since Afterlife 6.0 is the only one i found.
UPDATE:
Apparently, the CWM wasn't properly installed, my bad :crying:
I tried to install another ROM like Lollifox (will try MIUI later, still downloading) but I don't think I ported it successfully tho because it just showed installation aborted, no Status whatsoever.
I have now flashed Afterlife6.0. However, its now stuck at boot but a while ago it was on boot loop but after wiping caches and doing a hard reset, its now on boot forever. By boot I mean it just shows the Sony logo (supposedly the Arc Mobile logo before I flashed the rom) then the logo disappears and then its just a black screen (a black screen as in its still turned on and not a black screen as you would see when a phone is off).
I'll try to flash my stock rom and root it again so that I could flash other roms for now while waiting for your reply.
try stock rom on the official site. than try to update cwm and try rooting again.
I already fixed it by flashing the stock tho so no worries I guess.
I successfully ported Lollifox but I encountered a problem where I couldn't save anything because my phone doesn't recognize my SD card. It can be seen in the settings/storage though but what the rom can't do is recognize that the "SD card" is internal not external. Its sort of hard to explain, I have 2 storages: Internal memory and Phone storage. The internal memory is the default place where apps go while the Phone storage acts like the SD card of this phone but its internal as well ( at least that's how it acts on the stock ROM). I tried unmounting it (apparently I have that option on Lollifox but its internal so I don't know how that's possible) and remounting it but no dice. Also, since it doesn't recognize the SD card, it kind of explains why there's no USB mass storage option when I connect it.
I tried to port the MIUI and did the 2 ways of porting it told in the site where the rom came from but whenever I flash it, it boots up and gets stuck at the logo of MIUI.
I'm leaning away from Afterlife 6.0 now cause I can't really see it would be a better ROM (and you got to give it that the themes of MIUI and Lollifox are pretty AF) but I think its more suitable (still can't flash it tho) . Can anyone give thoughts on the best rom for this or a fix for these problems?

sometimes you need to format the phone memory at the beginning for one time after you install new ROM. Try that and restart the phone. One time i did this like this problem. Sorry for my english.

Solved
I think I already solved my own problem though. I just had to do a few tweaks and do a little bit of trial and error myself. However, I still couldn't flash Afterlife (also tried porting it myself and Im suppose to do a logcat or something but I lack free time) but I still have a rom flashed don't worry. Kind of feel sorry it feels like a waste of a thread.
Now Im asking for this thread to be closed(or atleast I think thats how it works cause I dont seem to have that option myself)
Thank you
I have asked on a few threads including the TWRP thread but no one seems to be answering for some reason so I thought I'd risk putting up a separate post to try and get an answer.
I followed the instructions to the letter on how to install TWRP from the thread and it installed all ok, the only problem is that the screen is totally frozen and there is nothing I can do to get it to work. I have now gone back to Oreo via Odin until I can get help on what's gone wrong. Would it make a difference if I tried from Nougut 7.0?
I have rooted and installed roms, TWRP's pretty often last year with my M10, M8 etc so I'm not that new to this but it's got me foxed this time.
Good question. I had an issue after installing CarHDROM, v9 for a bit where I could get into TWRP, but the phone would boot loop getting out of TWRP and I had a hard time getting back into recovery or download mode.
I re-flashed the phone and TWRP as well, and after that all was well. I did not change anything on the re-flash.
Sometimes things just get mux'ed.
