So I get a new inspire everything works great it connects to my computer..... Win 8......I try to use the easy ace root kit and it gets me half way through then does some download thing then pops up a windows for the a hboot update.. I figured it was part of the process so I went with it but when it goes to update my computer loses connection to my phone via usb... I'm all stock 2.3 3.... I truly want root and custom recovery. Any ideas what's going on?

AAHK is retired. You can still unlock the bootloader.
I'm not using the aahk kit om using the easy ace kit
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Ah, my bad. Have you tried running it again? Is the cord loose? Are there any error messages?
Checked a few different cables they all seem to work and do they same the tool kit fires up and I hit selection 1 then it downloads a hboot update tool so I run it as soon as that happens my computer pops up a notification saying the last usb device could not be recognized.... I'll try it again soon and take cream shots of what's going on and also ill try it on my win xp machine
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Note..... Usb debugging is on and fast boot is disabled... And phone is set to charge only......After the cmd part of the root when it downloads the hboot updater is when it does it..... It also reboots my phone to the hboot screen and that's when it loses its connection

ok, glad you sort it out. For the next try, Win8 needs the 4.x version of the drivers, otherwise it will not work. :good:
That's just it I had the 4.x on there and still didn't work.... Note there is a usb error in win 8 that hasn't been fixed yet by Microsoft but I didn't try to fix it or research it tried updating it but no luck also tried Microsoft site... Got inpatient and just ran it through vmware workstation

Well I went and hacked the library computer to allow me to save the app you suggested to my sd. I tried with and without debugging enabled. It just black screened a few seconds in and did nothing. So I'm not sure.
I also tried the same with Z4 again. It would like run and the app would close, unrooted.
Any suggestion to a newbie?

You have to enable usb debugging first to use any rooting app. You can just turn it off afterwards.

I don't know what the deal is, maybe my pc just sucks. I've installed the hack file and I read the manuel. The process fails everytime, it tells me either USB debugging isn't enabled, my phone isn't connected or the drivers are not installed. It can only be the drivers, so I read that the drivers are included in the file, ill try and install them and it fails everytime. I have no idea what it could be.

It does, what I think he ment was when you install HTC sync it also installs the drivers. When you uninstall it you have the option of keeping the drivers which is what you want

You can have htc installed you just have to shut it down. When you first plug in your phone htc sync will start up. In your system icon tray there will be a little phone icon. Right click it and hit exit. If htc is actually running ace hack kit won't start.

No to update it just unplug the device reboot computer and try to update again. Search around for the LG tool and go from there its pretty easy from that point on and I updated with custom recovery while on a custom 2.3.3 rom.

It should walk you through things install drivers make sure they are correct through device manager, and then reboot computer, then try update. I had issues until I did the reboot then all went smoothly.

So awhile back when I had my inspire I checked into unlocking it, and found the forum on here about the aahk advanced hack kit. I just recently started messing with it since I have a new phone. I've had some problems with rooting it. First time the process went about halfway through then quit. Now every time you try it the process will not cooperate and gives an error. Anyone have any suggestions for a noob like me to try and help in any way? Anything is appreciated.

What was the output? And which version of AAHK?
What do you mean by output? And its an older version...probably from May 2012. I think there is a new version that came out in November 2012, i just don't know if I've bricked it by using the old kit.

Here is the video I used to root when I was on 2.3.3 Gingerbread. It's painless, but takes some waiting.
What is the error you are getting, exactly? D: and if you are on 2.3.3 try my link. ^.^ If you are on 2.3.5 or another version, try searching more hack kits for rooting that specific rom version.

Ok, step, by step, what did you do? And by output I mean what did AAHK say when it ran (both times). Also, what does it say when you reboot into hboot? (Reboot holding power and volume-down.)
Noob mistake I know, but I couldn't tell you. (Calc and physics has my brain fried...). I think I'm going to try the latest hack kit tonight and come back on here if I need help or get stuck. More than likely I'll be back.

Okay so here's what happened last night. I tried the new aahk (11092012) and it required a downgrade of the rom. Process went thru but however when it got to thr hboot menu I received a message telling me that the image was not found. I have a pic of the output where it tells me the downgrade is complete (if anyone wants to decipher it for me), all the way thru the hboot directions. Could this be a faulty sd card?

There are a couple of ways. I use Odin which requires a different set than heimdall. With odin, Samsung's program kies or mini kies will load them up for you.
Heimdall (a one click program that bhuven & lumin30 have put together) will load up another set.
These two sets of drivers are known to clash.
Not sure of the direction that your going with the phone, but, if it's just to connect, Samsung mini kies would be the "manufacturer's recommended" route.
