hello xda-community,
i am searching an keyboard android application that has a spliting feature (when u got the tablet in the hands, being able to access all buttons of the keyboard using only thumbs) AND also switches to the native s-pen application, when taking out the s-pen.
here a list of already tested apps:
samsung keyboard
swiftkey 3 pro
list of what i am/will be testing:
thumb keyboard
floatNsplit keyboard
in addition i would like to make a poll so note 10.1 users can vote for their favorite keyboard.
edit: seems like floatNsplit keyboard is pretty usefull after some testing. Problem is that it doesnt react to S-pen and i can't find any option fo it in the preferences of the app.
Use SPenBoard Switcher ★Switching keyboards depending on the S-Pen position★
If you using Omega Rom you can use SPenBoard Switcher to change keyboard when S-pen is detach...
Here the link in xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075916
Hope it can help you!
SPen Board Switcher works for every rooted Samsung Firmware, not just if youre using Omega.

Yes, it is true... but I mean that SPen Board Switcher is included in Omega Rom :fingers-crossed:
does someone know how to split the keyboard of "Swiftkey Tablet Keyboard v4"? i dont find any preferences or options to make it split into two areas for making it easy to type with only the tumbs when holding the tablet.
SPen Board switcher as stated above. I have honestly been very dissatisfied with keyboards on the tablet. I have yet to find one that I actually like. I've tried 5-6 different boards now, and still have not found one for me personally. Stock Android would be nice - if it had split and number row. So for the time being I just use the Samsung IME - modified with working auto-correct. Has worked fairly well.
Did you try Kii Keyboard? It has options for split in landscape and swype in portrait. And there's a button to switch input methods.

I've got two quick question:
1 - Is there any way I can change to a different keyboard? I have tried downloading the Gingerbread keyboard but couldn't use it
2 - Do I need to remove any phone functions? I'm using Vegan 5.1?
Thankx
I use Smart keyboard without problems.
Just download from market, install and then enable the new keyboard.

Download and install the keyboard you want to use and then long press in any text box until you get the popup to change Input Method and select the keyboard you want to use.
I've been using Swype for a while now and love it. If you're a fan of Swype here is the thread for that.

There are other threads related to keyboards in the themes and apps section of the forum.
Install your keyboard. You may need to make the keyboard active under keyboard settings....settings/keyboard...thumb keyboard requires this btw. In any text window long press and you will get the option to set the keyboard you want.
Handwriting note-taking app for Android
I just added support for the Galaxy Note pen to Quill, so you can write without having to worry about your hand touching the screen. I have tested it with Chainfire's ICS repack and !TeamRocketRom v1.5. If you decide to give it a try and it doesn't work on your ROM please let me know!
Quill requires ICS or Honeycomb, so if you haven't upgraded your Galaxy Note from Gingerbread it will not work!
A key design goal is quick response to pen strokes and 100% vector graphics. Developed on a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet.
Features
Active pen (digitizer) support on ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream, HTC Flyer, and Galaxy Note.
Very fast response to pen strokes.
"Fountain pen" mode supports pen pressure data, more pressure = thicker line.
Pinch-to-zoom.
Double-finger tap to zoom.
Two-finger move gesture.
Pen strokes are vector art, zoom does not pixelate your writing.
"Pen only" mode (optional) disables touch input while writing.
Android 3.x hardware accelerated graphics.
Open source (GPL), so your notes are not stuck in an opaque file format.
PDF export (save to SD card, Evernote, Share).
PNG (raster image) export.
Can backup/restore your data.
Ruled/Quad background paper
Tagging for pages so you can group them together.
Switch between multiple notebooks.
Undo/redo.
The n-trig active pen has been tested on the ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream, and the HTC Flyer (Honeycomb). The Samsung S-pen has been tested on the Galaxy Note. The basic functionality should work on any Android tablet, but distinguishing pen from finger data and pressure sensitivity might not work on others. Please let me know your results if you try it on another tablet. See also the supported devices wiki.
You can also get the app for free (as in free speech) at http://code.google.com/p/android-quill. Also available on the Android Market.

ICS 4.0 override
Hi! I couldn't get the ICS 4.0 stylus detection override to work on galaxy note (chainfire ICS repack). Without it all touch events write on the screen
Anywa, just a heads up. I'm sure it'll get fixed. Great app!!

Me neither - Samsung doesn't set SOURCE_STYLUS on pen events. This is a major bug imho, and hopefully it'll be fixed in the release. But Quill v9.3 adds special support for the Galaxy Note so you don't have to use the ICS stylus detection
Thanks for the offer of your app Quill. I tried to d/l from your website, both directly to Note and d/l to PC, then transfer to Note's ext. sd card.
In both cases, when trying to install, I got an error that said Unable to Parse Package. I don't know what that means, but it won't install. My Note is rooted and running franco.kernel v9.
Thanks.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, Quill requires Android v3+ (Ice Cream Sandwich on Honeycomb). I assume you are still on Gingerbread, right? I've edited the first post to avoid confusion.
Thanks mate. Its work great with my Galaxy Note.
btw, im running Midnote ICS 2.0.
Its good apps.
Thanks ya

Sorry, my ignorance! I saw you had tested on ICS and took that to mean it works on ICS in addition to Stock GB. I look forward to trying this when Samsung releases ICS update for the Note.
Thank you!

Many thanks for your job: great on midnote 2.0.

Nice App, so far best App for Handwriting I tried.
Unfortunaly Force Close when I try to open Settings ...
Samsung Note, iMilka V6.
GREAT accuracy! it's even better than S-note (which is odd)... add a few backgrounds (different pieces of paper) and it's awesome!
Thanks a LOT!
i bought from market immediately to show support.
However, single tap zoom didn't work very well in midnote 2.0.
I m sure it will get fixed. great app tho.
anyway, anyone know how to customize the layout.
the icon seems moving arround
Touch-rejection doesn't quite work for me. Touch events don't draw, but they do interupt the pen and stop the pen being able to draw... which I guess (hope) is unintended functionality.
ROM as of this post: ICS Stunner Beta 3.
Gret app! Thanks guy!
The app is very smooth and fast. But... not enough easy to use.
Do you plan a desktop widget for this app? such as S memo?

Me too. The Problem with FC in Settings I mentioned earlier was a general Fault in iMilka V6, so it's not Quill-specific.
2 bugs
There are a couple of weird bugs in the latest version (chainfire ICS repack):
1) The "draw box" box is all the time in the middle of the screen in portrait mode and doesn't go away
2) The boxes can't be erased (at least I couldn't erase them)
anyway, I'm glad to see it's getting updated this fast!
Awesome work! Loving it, perfect for not samsung based roms.
Anone make a video of the app on ICS? i want to compare it to the spen apps
thank you
quick video...no judging

I'm having this same issue, running imilka's AOSP rom. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Thats not right, of course. It seems that the subsequent touch isn't reported as multitouch (MotionEvent.ACTION_POINTER) but starts a new single-touch (MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN). This is bad!
It seems that all AOSP-based ICS builds have this issue. Or can anybody report success with an AOSP-based ICS build? My guess would be that Samsung added some workaround in their ICS build for Wacom driver bugs. Fun fact: the leaked Samsung rom doesn't properly report SOURCE_STYLUS as per the ICS stylus api.
I check this tablet @bb today. It does not have Swype.
Any way to instal it?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Here ya go! You can download the installer from here.
http://beta.swype.com/
I have the above installed but have noticed that when trying to use on S note or Polaris, it does not function properly whereby when you Swype words, they don't appear on the app and if you try to delete, it does not do anything.
It works on all other apps but seems to fail on some Samsung optimised apps. Let me know if you have the same issues one installed.
Also just want to let you know that you can use Swype functionality on the standard keyboard that comes with the Note 10.1 and is very accurate too however we cannot have the minimised keyboard like Swype and for this reason, does not feel the same. The editing options are also much better on Swype.
It has a Swype-like feature built in. I've been using it and like it. Especially with the floating mini-keyboard. Just turn on "continuous typing" in the Samsung keyboard settings. I've been playing with T9 predictive typing and I like that too.
found it

Go to their website to install it. I did and it works great.
Is there a way to enable additional languages on top of English and Spanish?
The add languages menu for not seem to work
Ok disregard, out works
Ok typing from Swype now but lost the Samsung multi clipboard...which is useful
Edit: no it is still there this is independent from the keyboard
Does this function exists somewhere in Swype?

I have been using the swype. For almost 2 years on my galaxy s mesmerize for a couple years and love it. I couldn't stand the continuous type on my beautiful new tablet. I have been using the beta swype the past week and find out much more accurate. Is this the closest thing to the swype on my galaxy s? I do like the beta swype , and I'm sure will get used to it, but still prefer the galaxy swype
I tried beta swype and the swype apk from my Galaxy Note. One was super buggy and the other just wouldn't install. I don't particularly like the built-in swype-like (continuous typing) feature in the Samsung keyboard as it's not good with prediction and gives me errors most of the time.
The latest version, Swype 1.3, works great on the Note 10.1. It even allows you to resize the keyboard on the fly! So glad to have Swype once again, and I can now disable continuous text input in the Samsung keyboard.
I wish to c eate keyboard d button possibly remap search button in the quick launch to open keyboard because on some websites I'm not nable to open keyboard via auto keyboard I would really appreciate any feedback from all but first let me tell you what I have tried. I have tried using the only method found while googling wich uses a launcher to open quick launch but those are keyboard shortcuts so useless to me as I want to force the onscreen keyboard I am willing to support an app if there is not away to do this, also I am running android ics 4.0.4 on galaxy tab 2 7inch gt-p3113
thank you
And I hope I did not miss any posts regarding my request/question but Google turned out nothing
For somebody (like you and me) it's important to have a special key for popup the keyboard.
In CM7.2 in LG Optimus ONE there was an option in "settings/developer option" that able the keyboard popup if you long press the setting button.
I think it isn't so difficult to add this feature in future in CM9/CM10 or our Galaxy Tab2
A simply long press or a special button in the dock bar is perfect (only if we can select we want or no the special button)
Up for the post
how about an app to do this from notifications i would def buy if a dev would be willing to work on this. i really prefer stock rom on my tablet i have removed all the bloat where and all and have cwm on it with root i would really like an app for this

Well I use GO Keyboard ... it's pretty cool and you can get different colored themes..
but this website has some pretty good suggestions
http://www.techradar.com/us/news/ph...roid-keyboard-apps-reviewed-and-rated-1103347
Android 4.2 keyboard
Stock 4.2.2 with Swype-style gestures. It's very good, with just a few things niggles, e.g."I want to go too" always comes out "I want to go to", and you have to manually select "Too" from the choices. I the original Swype I think you could swirl back on to the "O" and get "Too"
Other than that it's ace. The old tap tap tap keyboard looks really old skool now. (iPhone users)
I'm using SwiftKey - it has Flow (like Swype) and also normal typing.
I tried Swype but the the suggestions are way better in SwiftKey for both languages I use (German and English)

Me too, but I have just a HTC Wildfire, which is too slow, and that's why I'll turn off the Flow (too slow, and that's why unusable.)
Which keyboard
The HTC Sense (4+) stock keyboard with swype style input and normal. I like it vey much

Perfect Keyboard Pro. It's fast, completely customizable (down to even adding custom backgrounds), allows you to adjust and tweak everything. It's a paid app in the playstore, but well worth it. Plus you can use keyboard skins designed for better keyboard, smart keyboard, and perfect keyboard so plenty of free skins out there.
If you like to flash custom roms and change up screen dpi, you just backup perfect keyboard settings, tweak the key height, and the keyboard adapts well in landscape and portrait (so no tablet version needed). I've tried them all, this one is my favorite all around. Swype is fast, Swiftkey is amazing, but none offer the customization of perfect.

Swift Keyboard... It comes with a flow option which is better than swype.. It costs around 100 Rupees after 1 month of free trial but worth it...
swiftkey
I have tried a ton of different keyboards, everything from 8pen to swype, stock, I finally settled on Swiftkey. I like it because it is pretty easy to customize and it has a good feel.
