whenever I turn on the tablet (im unlocked on the rooted sbdags stock rom) i get a message about how the external micro sd card has been mounted. Is this a cosmetic thing or is it actually remounting the sd card every time i turn on the tablet? I dont really care if the notification just appears, but what i am afraid of is the sd card losing power (which destroys the sd card) when the tablet turns off.

It's normal. I have this even with the 4.1.1 version.
Ah, that's completely normal. Most constant-apps (like widgets and live wallpapers) even have a message saying: "can't be run from SD, because SD unmounts when device is standby." or something along those lines.
I get this on full stock every time I turn the tablet on. "External Storage Inserted: SD-Card" I believe it automatically unmounts the card whenever the device is asleep.
(except when you use a music player, that keeps the device from going to sleep.)

No, (well, it does one for that one too) this one pops up even with the dock detached.
It gives two notifications if the dock is connected with an sd inserted.

Hey all.
FIrst off I dont recommend this phone. haha, that being said...
I just bought a 16gb microsd card for it. I was able to install it and transfer a bunch of tunes over. Then when I disconnected it from the computer, it has a little sd card icon with a sprocket at the top left of the screen and says "checking for errors". As a result, I dont have access to the info on the sd card > music contacts photos etc.
Its been 12 hours or so and this status has not changed.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Has it "farted" or do I just have to wait...
Thanks.
Have you tryed turning the device off taking the battery and SD card out then putting it all back and turning it back on, had issues with my phone not recognizing my SD before and it worked for me, just give it a try and see.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Thanks, but tried that many times...
I did try removing the battery and card multiple times to no avail.
I even sacrificed my programs etc through a hard reset. As soon as the reset completed, I have the same notification about the sd card.
Some details...
When I first inserted the 16gb SDHC card, the phone acknowledge its presence and I formated the card in the phone. It said there was over 15gb available... all fine...
I then was able to que it up with my pc through the USB cable and transfer about 8 gbs of music to the phone... transfer when fine.
Upon removing the phonne, it started with this "preparing sd card, Checking for errors" nonsense.
I am firmly convinced that there ACTUALLY is no SDHC support on these Acer Liquid E phones. My old 2 gb card that came with the phone works just fine and is back in the phone now. My only other option is to buy a 4 gb card and see if that will word fine, as 4 gb is not considered SDHC. then step up again to a 8 gb card (SDHC) and see what happens.
Does anyone else have a SDHC card in there Acer Liquid E? Does it work?
There is also NO help from Fido or Acer to work through issues...
Really makes me want to go back to the iPhone........ grrrrrrrrr....
Make sure that you formatted it to FAT32 first of all and does the card still connect to the computer using a card reader ? Why don't you try formatting it on your liquid by going onto storage and then unmounting it then format.

Thanks... no go though. At wits end...
Thanks for your attention!
When formatting in the phone, it doesnt allow you the choice to format specifically in FAT32 or other. I can only assume it is formatting in the proper system.
As for mounting and unmounting (what I feel this phone has been literally doing to me for the 6 months i've had it.lol)... as the sd card was stuck in this "checking for errors" sequence I had no access to mount or unmount the card or reformat again. These options were simply greyed out and not accessable.
I have not placed it into a card reader to reformat through my PC. I will try this step next and see what happens. I will have to find a card reader, or perhaps plug it into my camera as the card came with an sd adapter... see if that route will work.
Regardless. extremely user non-friendly phone here in the Acer Liquid E.
At first it actually worked and I got a few apks loaded up, but now it absolutely won't cooperate and I have been wrestling with this all night. Getting various errors, basically the PC just won't recognize either the phone or the SD card. Can anyone help me out here?

don't move apps to the sdcard.
uninstall whatever apps you moved to sdcard, reboot, reinstall them and keep them in internal memory.
I didn't move any apps to my SD card. I installed them from it. They were apk files. Installed in internal memory.

Known issue. Mine will also just stop seeing the SD card randomly. I'll know it when the phone rings and the ringer is some default garbage instead of the ringer I had assigned from the SD card.
I've yet to see any actual working solution. Simply rebooting the phone will usually fix it for awhile. Will probably have to wait for a Moto update.
what class is the sdcard?
people have been having issues with class 10 cards (although i have not).
try backing up everything on the sdcard, go to settings > storage and format the sdcard using the phone. move your stuff back onto the card and see if the problem continues.

Been there done that. Mine is a class 4 Sandisk 16GB.
Make sure you don't have any apps on your SD card. When you plug in your USB cord in it unmounts the SD card. If you have any apps on the card that are running is when you run into the problems being described as the phone is trying to unmount the card but can't due to the apps running.
Card is the stock 2gb, don't know what class.
No apps running from the card. Tried rebooting the phone a few times, turning USB debugging on and off, using different connection modes... No dice.
Def keep USB debugging on. When you plug your phone in does the USB icon show up in the notification bar?
Yeah, it does. And it charges.
OK grab the USB icon and pull it down just like a notification. You should see either 3 or 4 options, charge only, windows media share, etc. Sounds like you have charge only picked. Choose the media or data one and hopefully that will get you squared away

If u pull the card you should see a number on it in a tiny circle, the number in that circle indicates what class the card is. I had this problem once, after I rooted. Did factory reset and its been all good since....this was 2 weeks ago.

I've tried all the USB connection options multiple times.
I had to uninstall moto drivers and then reinstall them on my pc. All was good after that.
Also done that multiple times.
For now I'm just using my ghetto rigged card reader - digital camera and micro sd-sd adapter. Hahahha.
Probably just going to have to wait for an update and some more moto support for this phone on the pc side. Speaking of updates, this phone's been out for a month. Getting to be about time we at least saw a few bug fixes.
I'm sure you did a battery pull. I just went through this with my device, and that fixed the issue...
Actually, I didn't.
It seems that if there are any apps installed on the sdcard, it can't be accessed via usb.
Mine actually just started doing this as well. It was working fine, and now I cannot get it to mount as a mass storage drive on several different computers. I had three apps installed on the card, all games. I uninstalled all of them and still no mass storage.
So I've been making sure no apps get installed on my sd, or even any app databases because sometimes an app will install internally, but put its database on the sd. So none of that! I enjoyed a few days of being able to use usb mass storage, then a couple days ago it became inaccessible again. I checked for apps that may have slipped something onto the sd but didn't find anything noteworthy.
I left the issue alone, praying for a fix materialize from the etherworld, when something interesting happened today. I unmounted the sd and installed a new app, and a notification came up saying the app could be moved to the sd; but the notification used a wierd sound to alert me, presumably because it couldn't find the default audio file on the unmounted sd. So I then wen't to settings/sounds...oops... android crashed and rebooted with the sd card mounted; and I have access to usb mass storage again. Prayer answered?
So the other day I was transferring files between two phones via usb and a windows computer. My micro SD is a SanDisk 32gb. After completion of transferring files from my phone to the other phone, I safely ejected both phones and unplugged the usb cables. On my phone I began browsing through my pictures and within a matter of about 6-8 seconds I literally watched my pictures vanish before my eyes. Leaving only my pictures saved to my phones internal memory and an error message pops up "SD card unexpectedly removed" Odd right? Now the phone won't acknowledge that my micro SD is attached. Took it out and tried using it in a micro SD to full size SD adapter and then plugged into computer. No auto play. And when I select the drive slot for the SD it tells I need to format the disk. Tried quick and regular, both "Windows cannot format the disk" Tried using command prompt to format "Device not recognized...." I can't even format?! What do I do?

how long have you've been using the sd card? lot's of possiblities could happen maybe it's a faulty card - a possible virus infection. have you tried rebooting the pc and insert it again see if it will be detected. or from your device try to reinsert and reboot it.
based on my experience in most cases its a faulty one. i have 3 micro sd which i can't use now.

Recovery Of Missing Files
--------------------------
Your best searching the Internet for a file recovery program. Some may not be able to recover or locate the files that other software will be able to.
The SD Card Issue
------------------
Your best to download partition software, EASUS Partition Home is recommended for this. If you see your SD card simply right click it, and go to delete, and then new and then click 'Apply', and then 'ok'.
If you need any download links hit me up with a pm
hope this helps.
I've had the card for over 2.5 months. And I've added no new data, only transferred data off it(when it crashed) and moved files around. Well it's not my computer. Tried accessing the card on two others besides the one I was originally on. On the computer I last tried, it actually had a built in slot for Micro SD. It says no disk inserted Other Micro SD cards work fine with all computers. I just want to be able to format it so I can use it again but, I'm leaning towards that it might be fried. How it fried itself still doesn't make sense to me

Hello, I had Transformer about a year now. I have installed CyanogenMod 10 (JB 4.1) but the problem i have as my microSD card that I just bought will not get recognised in Transformer. I have "Samsung 32gb Class 10". It works fine if I put it thought the adaptor to the docking station and get recognised straight away. I tryed to format it to FAT32 and then insert it in the microSD slot but still same, it just does not wont to know it. I Kingston 16gb Class 2 and its absolutely the same problem. Can it be that the microSD slot it knacked since I've bought it? Please help someone.
P.S Mount SD card comes up in the Settings > Storage but after i press it in couple of minutes table says "Unfortunately, Setting has stopped"

I think that you must be right. Your sd card slot must have problem.
But before any coclusion you have to see some things. What rom do you have? Did you try it with a different clean install (after making a nandroid backup for not loosing everything)?
I have kingston 16gb class 4 and I have no problem. (FAT32)
Finally I couldn't be surprised if sd card slot is mulfumctioning from beginning cause mine has problem with internal mic from beginning.

#1 Ensure that the contacts for the SD card are clean.
#2 Give the slot a quick blow out with some compressed air or such. NO VACUUM CLEANERS.
#3 After doing the above steps, put in the card, then power down. wait about 3 minutes, and power it back up into normal boot. These should get the device to see it and accept it. Other wise you may have gone and goofed up the locking mechanism inside that is not allowing the contacts to seat correctly. This can be resolved by a tear down and rebuild with a good service tech.

Here's a nice YT link to a tear down that should help you along with tearing it down. It's rather simple to do.

Right, Scratch all that about disassembling it. I restored to Stock ROM.
I go to Settings > Storage and there is:
SD CARD
Mount external storage device
I press on it and its saying "Preparing external device..." but Setting freezes, after i try to copy anything on the microSD card it says "Insufficient storage". So i dont know what to do.

Plug it into the computer and see what files are there. May just need to clear out some things. BUT I am beginning to be more inclined to say that there is an issue within the card itself. If the tab can see it it should be able to mount it. If it is saying that there is not enough space, either format it via the computer and re try or take it back and tell them that it is a bad card.

NTFS won't work. I'm sure you are aware of that. Format it from your phone, THEN put it back in the tablet. If it is still the case, then you have ruled out the card being the issue, and are back to that it could be dust / dirt / debris in the port, OR that you have a faulty port.
I revert to the stock Asus ICS ROM from there website. Reformated microSD card to FAT32 with Long formating. Wiped all data from Tablet. Insertet a card and it might show straight away or not show at all or after pressing Mount External Storage, Setting will freeze and message with Wait or Close will pop up. If the microSD mounted and the SD card sigh apper in the bottom of the screen near clock i can get in to the card and creat folders, but if i try to copy something in it, it says Insuffician Storage. So i dont think it something with the card or a port, because it can detect the card accasionly and get in to it. So is there any way to do something with the main software part, not the android it self with something that android installed to or there is nothing that android get installed to? Thank you
When I installed cromi-x everything was working perfectly but the next day my 32gb micro sd that I've been using on it since the tablet first came out stopped working for some reason, it was not getting detected anymore but if I go to settings > storage I can see "MicroSD" and the only option there is mount external storage which does absolutely nothing every time I click on it and that option with "MicroSD" disappears whenever I remove the micro sd card.
And ever since then my tablet has been waking up with like a 1 second delay, but if I remove my micro sd card it wakes up with normal speed/no delay.
First time doing this kind of stuff so not sure what's wrong...

There are other low level tools you can use that maybe able to rescue it but if windows can't see it you may not be able to use them.

Can you drop some names? I have a big capacity card that has refused to act its age for some time now. I've tried H2testW and the thing reported the correct storage but slowed down considerably after writing half its capacity.
You can try Gparted. You would have to burn the image to a CD or create a bootable stick and run it from there. Make sure your BIOS is set for booting from a bootable disc or USB drive before it boots Windows.

I had a similar experience with a cheapo 16GB card a few years ago.
Thanks,
