[Q] How do I unlock the bootloader? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi, guys. I'm new to the forum but I've been a fan of xda for awhile now. Anyways, I've become quite sick with the poor programming that came stock on my HTC one X, so I'm hoping to fix that. Unfortunately I can not unlock the bootloader on the phone no matter what I do. HTC dev. won't allow me to unlock it through their site, either.
My phone is an HTC One X from AT&T running Android 4.0.3 ICS, and kernel version 3.0.8, build number 1.85
Please help me guys!! A BIG thank you in advance!:crying:

Rooting is not for those who can't look up and read. This phone is quirky so if you want to root. Read the stickies here then go to android development and read the stickies there then root. The information is all there for you.

Better to ask then to brick. Feel free to pm me. Happy to help out. You will be given some reading assignments though.

Thank you for at least being gentlemanly about it instead of assuming I don't read. I've been working on this and READING everywhere for days, and having issues with every single program and route I try to go about. I'll PM you (As soon as I figure out how:silly and reading materials are definitely not a problem!

Don't mind exad he's a cool guy. We get a little frustrated sometimes cause we feel unappreciated.

to be fair, your title and somewhat lack of info given screams "Havent read". i dont think it was wrong for me to assume so. You can be sure that i had no intent to insult you. things go smoother when you understand what youre doing.

Damb she is lucky. She has a 1.85. The spoof cid should still work. We got her on the right track though. I guess she has complained to att that her phone won't update to jb. Good to see taking matters into her own hands and freeing her phone from the bondage of att and the crappy bloatware that comes with it.

Katniss, what you want is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
But you're going to need to change your CID to 22222222 before heading to htcdev to unlock, as supercid doesn't work there anymore.

You're so lucky you're still on 1.85

Just do the process for 11111111 and then fastboot oem writecid 22222222 after.
Or Hex edit mmcblk0p4 after achieving root. Either way will work, my way can be a bit more dangerous: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212737&highlight=hex+edit+cid

I thought we would have to hexedit. I all ways assumed you needed root permission to fastboot oem writecid.
Am I wrong?

You need root for both, but you can achieve root without SuperCID no? SuperCID is for unlocking bootloader.

You need more than root for fastboot oem writecid. You need either s-off or supercid. The catch is that without s-off, once you write 22222222, you can't use writecid anymore.

Duh your right. Its been a while. adb shell and adb push su binaries = root access

Since he'll be doing it once right after SuperCID, it will be fine. As stated both will work lol. Can just S-OFF after if OP wants to keep changing it.

Well if in fact you can only writecid once to 22222222 For htcdev bootloader then you wouldn't be able to s-off cause you need cid11111111. Correct?

Idea for s-off for one S

Ok so i wilp be upgrading to a one s in a few days and im wondering if for s-off on the one s could someone make like what the devs did for the n1 with blackrose. Or could someone find someone one with one of the rare one s dev phones with s-off and extract the s-off hboot from that and flash it on all the other one s phones

The basic chicken & egg situation is that you need s-off to write hboot.
You'd have to boot the device through some other means than the normal (s-on) hboot, or spoof some check(s) to prevent the normal hboot from setting mmc protection.
Well i know that sansung phones have something called unbrickable mod and that starts before the bootloader ir os or anything likebthat starts. If soneone can get something like that then we could s-off the one s easily

I don't what I could use S-OFF for at this moment. Sure, there might be devs who just would start some efficient stuff, but thanks to those current recoveries where already have most of the possible functionalities.

One of the various reasons why the "one-click" methods always look suspicious to me. It often ends up being "one-click root method for every phone . . . except HTCs".
But by all means, OP should try it, and let us know.

Actually, this makes perfect sense in theory as you use that to root. It says nothing about unlocking the bootloader.
Once you have root, you could then SuperCID and then unlock your bootloader.

I think you're misunderstanding the whole idea behind this, did you do any research? You don't root before unlocking the bootloader, it's the opposite.
This method doesn't root your phone. It gives temp root so you can gain SuperCID, and then you can unlock the bootloader via htcdev, and then you can gain permanent root after flashing a custom recovery.
PS. It's basic rules to search before posting a new topic, your question has been asked and answered countless times already.

Read read then read some more having someone use team viewer to do it for you defeats the purpose of learning. This is technically a dev site. People will help you but hand holding isnt on the list. Wether u have rooted other phones or built roms is irrelevant. You now own a one xl. Take your time and learn. Doing it for you defeats the purpose of learning. If you wanna send me the phone and 50.00 I'll mail it back rooted.

It's gotta be against XDA rules to ask for payment to help someone. You can set up a donate to me button like I have and give users the option to donate should they find you helpful like a digital tip jar but asking seems tasteless :/

[Q] Help With Boost HTC One SV

Hello, how is everyone? I just got this Boost Mobile One SV and I want to root and unlock the bootloader, you know all the cool stuff!! I see a couple guides but they are a little confusing as to what "brand" phone they will work with. I just don't want to be doing steps for a process that is not for the Boost model and mess this thing up, my girlfriend will kick my arse, lol. But really the only root guide I see just says it is for HTC One SV, I noticed the guides for the bootloader and other thing say they are for Specific "brands" and models. I have the Boost K2_CL so any held you can give or point me toward the right guide is much appreciated. Thanks
