[Q] Mobile tracker on Cyanogenmod ROMs - General Questions and Answers

I recently rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S Plus (GT I9001)) and installed a custom 4.2.2 ROM.
The old Gingerbread OS provided by Samsung had this really cool mobile tracker feature. On activation, once the phone is stolen and it's SIM is replaced, it automatically sends an SMS to three predefined numbers.
Further, it can be tracked using a Samsung account.
Has this feature been incorporated in custom ROMs?

This will never be added the CM based roms.

Is there any specific reason as to why the CyanogenMod ROMs would not include this feature?

This is due to CM only using opensource stuff and TW features are not open source

CM9 ICS video call

Hi all. Is it possible for ICS users do a umts 3g video call (not skype) like the original Samsung?(the red circle on pic) I tried to make a video call but suddenly, there is no option to do it. Not even in the settings. Is there anything I can do to enable it?
What I mean is not video chat that uses data plan but that uses carrier (charges according to time, like voice call). I don't want to waste my data plan on gtalk/skype.

Native 3G video calling is not supported on AOSP / Stock Android. Samsung uses 3rd party proprietary libraries to support video calling in their ROMs. So if you want native 3G video calling, switch to official 2.3.6 GB ROMs.

just open your skype and check if the vedio call option enabled and call it ... better using the latest CM9 ... i already have a vedio call on skype with 3g network

I did search about it before and found that Galaxy Nexus didn't support this video call. I was shocked cuz this technology existed since decades ago but the latest android dont support it. But it was originally built in the galaxy sl, rite? Can we port it from the original rom anyhow? Can we use the phone.apk from samsung gingerbread to ics? Or can we use the telephony provider file or something that can be used?

Yup I agree when you say that the technology is a decade old.... but native umts video calling is not so popular in the USA and hence the concept itself is missing in stock android. However Galaxy S , SL , Tab etc. had this feature on stock Samsung ROMs. You can try using the phone.apk from GB ROMs , but I doubt that would work.

Google Edition Phones?

Hi guys!
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Edition phone because I was excited to mod it. I'm new to modding, so I've been despretly searching this forum for help about custom ROMs, but there doesn't seem to be any.
Why isn't there a device subforum for the google edition phones?
When will the google edition phones be supported by cyanogenmod, paranoid, etc.?
I love this device, it runs fast and I haven't had a single app crash or freeze, which is something that killed my experience on my previous phone, the Galaxy S 2 (Hercules).
Thank you for your time!
You paid $600 just to put another stock based ROM on top of it?

It will be Google Galaxy Tab 2 instead of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 then
I think that smasung had remove them because the touch wiz ui is bloated with malware so that if you have 2 users your device will run like anccent times!! also hardware plays a good term here maybe it could be eneabled by mod ??? it is already in cm10.X

[Completed] [Q] Stock Samsung Apps on Huawei Mate 2

Hello XDA-Devs,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
You guys have been a great resource in getting my Nexus 4 rooted, and flashed with CWM + CM11 + Franco Kernel (Which has made a huge difference in usability, and battery life).
However, my boss has some questions for me since he now knows I am a "phone head".
He used to have a note 3, and loved the Samsung Mail App. He said it was the best mail app you could get, and it had a lot of similar functionality to outlook. He is wondering if it's possible to install the Stock SAMSUNG mail app to his Huawei Ascend Note 2. He also asked if he could flash the Samsung 4.4.4 release to his Huawei without getting all the AT&T bloatware attached. I've done an extensive amount of googling between yesterday and this morning and could not find a clear answer.
From what I understand, you cannot flash the stock Samsung S4 / Note 3 / S3 ROMs because the phones do not have the same hardware, but can I get the APKs from the Samsung stock apps?
Would be a huge help if anyone has an answer for me. Or if anyone has the APKs for the Samsung email app, please send a link!
Each Samsung Device firmware is based around what is called Touchwiz Framework. This is propriatory to Samsung device and hence most of the Samsung apps will not function without it. Some of the Samsung Apps do function without the Touchwiz framework but there are additional steps necessary.
Please post in Galaxy Note 3 General so that the right experts for that device may be of help.

What ROM for most AOSP/cyanogenmod experience?

Hello,
today I got a new Samsung Galaxy S7 (Exynos).
Since today I always had a Galaxy S2 with Cyanogenmod installed. I never ever used the original Samsung ROM.
Sadly there is no Cyanogenmod for Galaxy S7.
I am looking for a ROM with these features:
- as much AOSP/Cyanogenmod like as possible, I don't need touchwiz, I'm fine with e.g. NovaLauncher (*but I heard there are battery drain issues on S7??*)
- no preinstalled apps, no google play store, a really "clean" android (of course camera, sensors etc should work)
- possibility to encrypt device, root, xprivacy
- a nice dark theme
1) Is there a ROM that suits my needs?
2) Or should I take the newest official ROM and debloat it with the tutorials here on the board.
Thank you for your suggestions! There are so many ROMs here, it is hard to choose.

1: No. There are no AOSP/CM roms for the S7 due to lack of sources for the kernel. The best you can do is to run some "custom" touchwiz rom where most samsung apps (such as dialer, contacts, clock etc) have been removed and replaced with their google counterparts, but in the end of the day, it's still a touchwiz rom.
2: Since the last phone you owned was the S2, I suggest you give stock touchwiz a real chance, a lot has changed since the S2 stock days so who knows, you might get used to it. The Android 7.0 Beta rom is quite good looking and quite fast, not stock android fast but still pretty good. Give it a shot and see how you feel about it.
