a few months back i had a galaxy gio which i sold and am planning to buy a pico. what i did before selling it was that i extracted the stock system task manager, file manager and memo apps in form of .apk. i want to know if these files can be installed in htc like any other app. i am attaching the files with this post.

So did anyone test it out?

guys, is there a chance to change from the htc keyboard to the default android keyboard? because im using the sense UI so there is no android keyboard installed.. only the 'touch input' which means it's the HTC keyboard.. or is there any keyboard that can type superscript, decimals and other? thanks btw
Similarly, I have a rooted myTouch 3G running CM5.0.7 and I want instal (or flash?) the Cliq XTs default keyboard.
I've extracted both the. Apk and. Odex file for its LatinIME. I just don't know how to go about actually installing it. I used SUFBS to replace the system/app/ file and then tro to install and that didn't work, so I did my nandroid backup and I'm back to where I started.
If anyone can help or lead me in a place to help id appreciate it. I have a mac as well if that makes a difference.

Have you tried installing it on the phone? Like installing it through Astro File Manager?
It only gives me the option to either Uninstall or Launch because it sees its source and reads it as if it were the one installed with the ROMs default...so I'm not sure what to do. And when I try to Launch the apk through that menu, it says the application is not found. I guess this makes sense because I think I read somewhere I had to flash/push the file somehow to the OS to recognize, essentially somehow thru and adb commandline or something.
Like I said, I have a mac some I'm just looking for how to do it..

I've also tried merging the .apk and .odex file into a .zip directory. I do realize that means nothing when there's no "signing" to it or making it official however they do...so anyone know how to replace the default keyboard in generaol?
After i flashed jb rom from ics i i quickly realized there was no stock sms or any kind of stock file manager, i tried looking around but have not had anybody else have the same happen to them.
Samsung infuse running 4.1.1 cyanogenMod Version 10 and used Justabean aromoa 2.0.4
seriously considering going back to ics. i was just wondering if i messed up the initial set-up

Maybe it was an aroma bug...all rims should have a sms app...its common for them not have a file manager app though...file manager apps are not part of aosp or cyanogen source...

Download any file manager of your choice such as solid explorer and browse to the zip of the rom you flashed.
Go to system/app directory inside the zip, and copy the mms.apk
Paste it in your phones /system/app and set permissions to 644.

I guess my edit didn't go through I downloaded go SMS and astro file manager both work fine. It only bothered me because the SMS wasn't preinstalled. I might go back to ics in a few days. Although I got the buttery download the other rom was much smoother for me. And nice tip will do
Hello, is there a way to copy a Samsung app (e.g. Email in Galaxy Ace 2) to another device of different brand?

Yes you can. If you can identify the .apk file of a certain application, you can simply copy it to
another device and install there.
This is something I used to do whenever I see my friends mobiles. I will checkout if they have any cool
App. If I like any, I will find out the installation file (.apk extension) and I will Bluetooth/superbeam it to my mobile
and install...as simple as that...
And my easiest way to find the apk file is "just search for 'apk' in file explorer"....

This simply does not work for the Sammy apps they are kinda rigged to the framework .
One must heavily modify the apps to make them work on non Sammy ROMs
This is the reason why non of the sense apps are ported to CM ROMs
sorry for any ty¶°s

That's what I was afraid of.. Because I've tried copying the samsung mail app in different ways to my ZTE (apk copy, titanium backup etc) and none of them did work. I also tried copying the exchange app but no luck either.

And another reason is that the system apps present in stock roms are odexed .
One simply isn't able to port Sammy apps without going full retard

Have you tried direct copy inside system? Since you said you've tried Titanium Backup, it means your device has been rooted right?
Enter your system and change its permission to copy the application there into your memory card... hope it works...
I just noticed a folder titled baidu on my Nexus 5 (/storage/emulated/o/baidu). In it there is a single file titled .cuid.
Can someone tell me what this folder and file are for? I checked my Nexus 7 (with stock 4.4 on it) and the folder and file exist on that too.
-EDIT- No, I haven't installed any 'Baidu' titled apps from playstore
Folder doesn't exist on mine...

Its for an app. But we don't know every folder by every app

Baidu is the biggest chinese portal, something like Google in the rest of the world,
in China Google is not accessible and they got this Baidu, maybe your phone was originally planned to be shipped in China
or some guy between Lg factory and you downloaded this app on your phone and forget to delete folder but only app...weird
Thanks for the replies, and I know who Baidu is (which is why I asked the question, as I never installed anything of theirs.)
Its weird that the file and folder are on my tablet too.

Same file here.
Yeah it is a strange file baidu.cuid, but I have it in a different folder: internal memory/baidu I also never installed a baidu app or anything. I did update my s3 with the new 4.3 update.
The question remains what is this file for?
MIUI Launcher/Theme
It's part of the MIUI launcher/theme. I have the same folder on the root of my sdcard (along w/ a 'tempdata' folder inside containing .dat and .db files). I got one of the .dat files to open with Notepad on my PC and could see it was MIUI. I installed the MIUI launcher awhile back - so this explains the orphaned dir for me. Hope this helps someone else looking.
I've got the same thing. It has one hidden file named .cuid and was last modified 3 days ago... I'm on a rooted Verizon M8.
I have it too.
What is the miui launcher or theme?
Mine was recently written to, so I'm worried. Anyone know what happens if this Baidu folder is deleted?
its not one, but many different apps/themes install it if not already in the phone. stop freaking out. if you dont like it, delete it. if it comes back, then its one of the apps that you are now using.
I made a nandroid backup and the deleted the folder. So far everything works fine. No difference. Didn't come back.

if its an app that's installed now, it wont come back until its used. so give it a full day or two, just in case.
Do you use ES File Explorer? I got that folder after downloading ES on my phone.

Don't know than. I know its used for cache files in some way. Other than that, I have no clue.
I have it too, never noticed it before. Only shows up in ES, not on the PC. Strange...
Have you installed wechat, I know that creates the folder on my device.

Nope. I literally have a select few apps on my phone
Is there any app which provides details as which folders are created by which apps? AFAIK sdmaid can remove folders associated with apps but it won't show which folders are related to a particualar app. Might be useful before deleting any folder.
Even I had that baidu folder.. I deleted it just now.. No idea which app created it
A Google search returns that it's competing google when it comes to search engines..

Might not work as you may need the apps framework that is built into the sense framework. But it would live in the system/app/ folder.
If Any of the custom sense ROMs have it you could download the ROM and extract the app from there instead. Remember that when installing it you must have root access to place it into the system/app/ folder and you must set the permissions correctly.

Do I need root access if I install the app on the sdcard ? (I am not sure but I think that some apps are on the sd card).
A few days ago I tried to do get the root access on my phone but I did a bad thing and lost everything ! So, I won't do it once more.

Thanks.
I had used Universal deodexer to deodex my HTC FM and Music apps from my stock 2.3.5 rom.
the deodexer had extracted framework files from my stock rom and made copies of the deodexed apk.
i wanted to use those apps, once I moved to a custom rom (PAC v23)
but after flashing and putting those apks on the system/app folder
those apps still fail to start.
any suggestions ?
