If something is not working, you can record a log file and mail it to me at [email protected]:
- launch the app
- go into More > Gear icon > Control
- Enable "logging to file" (at the end of the page).
- IMPORTANT: Exit the app (More > "X" bottom left icon)
- restart the app
- run the app and trigger the problem to troubleshoot
- exit the app
- email me the files found on internal storage:
On Android 10 and below:
/Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp/log.txt
/Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp/prev_log.txt
On Android 11 and higher:
/Documents/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp_log.txt
/Documents/prev_com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp_log.txt (if present)
You can access them with a file manager app and share them to your email app for sending them.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to not restart BubbleUPnP until you have sent or saved the log file as it is overwritten on app startup.
Looks like an awesome app - all the features I want... BUT it is not currently recognizing my Synology NAS (upnp/dlna). Win 7 media player works great.
EDIT - Sorry it did eventually show up. It would be nice to have some asynchronous loading notifications. Also, if I queue up an entire genre, for example, it takes a looong time to load/start playing (thousands of songs). Otherwise looking good.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll think again about async loading notifications (I suppose you mean loading of folders here), but I do not like the additional clutter they involve.
For the second point, the playlist is not designed to handle thousands of tracks. What what your exact use case ? Doing shuffle on an entire genre ?
--------
I updated the first post with an Android Market link to install the app.

Yeah, exactly. But after using it for a while, I don't mind the delay all that much since it only happens on the initial adding the songs to the playlist. Once the songs are added there are no slowdowns.
No other complaints really - hands down the best functioning and looking UPnP audio player on the market.
excellent app, works great with PS3MediaServer
minor issues:
reports search as not supported but I guess that's a PS3MediaServer problem?
doesn't show any album art
I have a DLNA TV (LG_42LD790) but it doesn't show up as a renderer, only local renderer available
how much are you going to charge for the unlocker?

Yes, it doesn't support searching at all.
I tried PS3MediaServer and it is not the best server you can find for audio (only folder browsing, no search, some bugs in returned data).
I found 2 bugs in less than 1h usage

It likely doesn't expose any album art to the app.

Most DLNA TV are not remotely controllable to push content. You can just browse from their interface to play content.

Undecided yet but it won't break the bank .
Correction: album art is working ok with ps3mediaserver, think I must have been playing tracks without art, doh!
1: has the potential of being better than upnplay (although the latter is free & ad-free)
2: needs a landscape mode (or use system/sensor detection)
3: exit on back key press
4: ability to add WAN server
5: use built-in player (like you already do for music types) for divx+mp3,x264+aac,mpeg2 files (detect via 4cc and/or extension - avi,divx,mkv,mp4,mpg,mpeg,vob,m2v)
open external player for other file types (mov/qt/rm/ac3); the system, hardware renderer should be able to decode most of the aforementioned files, thus eliminating the need for an additional app expressedly for that purpose (vplayer/mobo etc)
This COULD give you an edge over the other upnp/dlna solutions, since none of them provide this functionality (yet).
My Setup: Twonky Media Server and WD TV Live as Renderer!
This setup works fine with other apps, also on iOS...
BubbleUPNP looks really good, BUT:
- the timeline / song progress bar (dont know how you call it) doesn't work (even if use the setting 'use other...')!
-> so as a result, the next song in the playlist doesnt play
So by now, the app is useless. Would like to use yours, all the others work, but yours seems more smooth and has a better usability.
Looking forward to some updates!
Would def. pay for this if the issue gets fixed!

2. Not a priority for the initial stable version but in consideration for future versions. Landscape is mostly useful for tablets as it is the natural orientation.
3. You can exit the app via the "Exit" menu action found in the Now Playing tab.
4. definitely on the todo list although probably not in the first stable version
5 in consideration for a future verson

Thanks for reporting, it is a sign that the app has trouble getting timing info from the WD TV Live. There's logging inside the app that should be able to tell why and allow me to fix it. Can you record a log file following the step below, and send me the log to [email protected]:
- launch the app
- go into the Settings page (Menu > Settings) and then in the Advanced Settings section
- check "Enable logging to file".
- IMPORTANT: Exit the app using the "Exit " menu item found in menu of tab "Now Playing"
- restart the app.
- handle the app to trigger the problem
- connect your phone to your PC or MAC and mail me the file /Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp/log.txt found on the SD Card
Using as Renderer and Controller on two devices
Hi,
I am using your app to control my old HD2 (CM7) connected to external speakers with my Galaxy S2.
I am having some issues that when I start it up to control the renderer and the renderer have been running for some time, sometimes it will not find/connect to the renderer.
If I restart both apps then they will usually pick up and connect to each other again. I am not sure if this is my HD2 going to sleep in some way that makes it not being visible. But it will still continue to play music from my upnp server (WMP7) though I can't control or add new tracks...
I will put both devices to log when I am home later tonight and send you some log files that hopefully will help.
Thanks for all the hard work!
Cheers
Jonas

I just upgraded my SGS from stock 2.2 to CM7 and fixed today a WiFi connectivity issues that is related to sleep mode. It is not CM7 specific but related to how the WiFi chipset operates when going into power save mode.
So look forward to the next beta which should be out soon.
Using WMP as media player
Hi,
I just installed BubbleUPnP, and it looks really great. I already tested a few similar apps (2Player, Andromote, etc) but it's definetely the most impressive and promising one.
I just encounter a small problem when I enqueue a few music files and then launch the playlist. it sends each file to WMP but directly goes to the next one until the last one. So, only the last file is read.
A workaround is to launch the playlist with only 1 item, and then add other items while playing. Don't know if the problem comes from BubbleUPnP or WMP...
Also FYI, my Synology is well recognized, as well as my Samsung LED TV.

Thanks for reporting, I can reproduce this issue so it will likely be fixed in the next beta.
Can you try playing a video on your Samsung TV an tell me if it works ?
I haven't tried it as there is no point, being a BubbleDS user already (and loving it, might I add...feels like a factory app and works far better than anything on the Apple side). But just out of interest, will this be a separate product or will BubbleDS be merged with it?

BubbleUPnP and BubbleDS will remain separate apps (mostly to avoid to clutter BubbleDS with unneeded stuff).
The next major version of BubbleDS will be updated to use the same codebase than BubbleUPnP, which will bring some fixes and even some new functionnality (Shuffle Library).
As a bonus, BubbleUPnP will be a free app to use for BubbleDS owners, as it will act as an unlocker.
Thanks for the clarification

Yes, I tried. It works like a charm. Furthermore, my TV shows SRT subtitles as if I launched the video from the TV itself.
0.9.9.1 available on the Market.
WDTV Live as a renderer may be partially or totally fixed, needs testing.
Library: fixed "Browse timeout" errors specific to Android 3.0.1+ (tablets)
Library: faster browsing
Library: display spinning wheel while loading folders / searching
Library: browse compatibility fixes with some Media Servers
Library: tweaked album list layout to make more of the album title visible
fixed wifi issue (on some devices) preventing from playback advance in playlist (and possibly other network issues) after screen has turned off
fixed track advance in Playlist not working correctly with WMP and likely other renderers
videos can now be downloaded in the Videos subfolder of the download folder
Now Playing: display container format of videos
Settings: added rate app button, known issues button
obscure crash fixes
I'm getting my Titan on Friday and I wanna know what apps you guys can't be without. I will not be unlocked so please only include apps which are "legit".

I actually recommend using the website, not the Zune software, if you want to browse the Marketplace on your PC. It is indeed posible, though.

I mean that I cannot put apps outside of the marketplace on my phone so people shouldn't include them in their list. I will probably buy the developer unlock but the 10 apps limit really sets me off, it isn't worth it almost.

Toggle (I prefer this to Network Dashboard, works better)
Minesweeper (yay for easy XBL points!)
last.fm
Rad Now (great for finding out the weather radar looks like WHERE YOU ARE).
Angry Birds (cause its more easy XBL points if your any good at it)

The list presented here is a collection of excellent apps (at the time of writing this) that excel in what they do (and supposed to do). They may or may not fit into the requirements of everyone perfectly. So choose whatever works best for you.
For the categories covered, these are the best apps you would find among hundreds of apps that currently exist for each category on Google Play Store. This curated list is hand picked by me after trying out several apps in each category in the last 10 years or so.
Points to Note:
1. I use the PRO version, in most cases or wherever available. Buying the PRO version or making in-app purchase supports development and is an appreciation for the developer for his/ her efforts and good work done.
The Pro version runs lighter on the system as it usually stops connecting to the internet to show you ads, and probably disables tracking and other background activities. This means the Pro version uses less system resources than the free version, and so would consume less battery too.
2. I use ad-blocker, so have no idea about ads on free versions. This is not to block revenue to developers, but only to safeguard my own privacy and security online.
3. I disable internet access to all apps that should not require it for core functionality.
4. I DENY all unnecessary permissions to apps.
5. I have been using most of these apps for a long time and my device has always performed excellently. So I guess none of these apps do malicious/ unwanted stuff.
6. DISCLAIMER: The apps listed below are currently the best apps as at the time of writing. Apps may stop being developed actively, developer can sell the app to a new buyer (who may not be as skilled or who may have malicious intent), developer himself can go rogue, etc. I take no responsibility for what any app may do on your device. You're free to accept or reject the recommendations in this post, and so you're on your own.
7. Over time, new and better apps may come up, apps that aren't great as at the time of writing can make a turnaround and become great apps, etc. This is a very dynamic process.
8. I haven't done a detailed analysis of trackers built into these apps. You can check them here:
https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/
Simply copy the Google Play Store link into the box on that site to see how many trackers are built into an app.
Q. How I choose my apps?
A. I look forward to the following features:
1. Cross platform support - This helps me stay away from platform dependency (iOS/ Android). I can easily switch platforms because the app would be available.
2. Sync support - I prefer signing in with an account so the information can sync across devices, across platforms.
3. The app is under active development.
4. Simple and minimalistic, but fully functional.
5. Small size (compared to similar apps) - small app size indicates efficient coding and less possibility of unwanted bundling inside the app.
6. Least amount of ads/ trackers.
7. If an app is excellent, I try to see what other apps are available from the same developer.
8. Any app I download from outside Google Play Store, I always upload them to Virustotal to scan for malware. I usually download apps only from the following sites:
1. Apkmirror https://www.apkmirror.com/
2. F-Droid https://www.f-droid.org/
3. XDA
4. GitHub
I will usually not sideload an app even if one antivirus engine on Virustotal flags it as malware, with very very rare exceptions. It is a strict NO if multiple antivirus engines flag them.
The links I have included are all for the apps I own (paid) and use. You will almost always find a free version of the same app from the same developer.

DESIRABLE FEATURES OF APPS
Google Play Store boasts of hosting over 3.5 million apps today. One can safely say that more than 95% of these are pure garbage.
When you make something with love, passion, dedication: it shows on the end product.
Most apps on Google Play Store are copy cats where some popular apps are reverse engineered, given cosmetic changes and published as new apps to generate ad revenue, with absolutely zero value addition.
You'll often find the same developer publishing pretty much identical apps under different app names, or uses different developer accounts to publish the same app (of course with a different name).
Although all these are against Google Play Store policies, they nevertheless get accepted and published because Google too gets revenue out of these.
In this series called Desirable Features, I'll post what makes apps in a certain category good. Hopefully, a developer who is interested will take it up and incorporate the ideas in his/ her own app to make it unique and stand out.
Some of the Golden Rules to keep in mind when designing the UI can be found here:
3 very important tips for developers
If you are an app/ software developer, here are three very important UI related tips for you: 1. Design for least number of taps: Users should be able to access/ use a feature with the least number of taps. I often find that frequently used...

File Managers.
I'll post the desirable features here.
GALLERY APPS
01. Support for TABS: All Media, Videos, Photos, Favourites, Private, Folders (user should be able to reorder them, and also choose which ones would be visible).
02. Support for SWIPE GESTURES to switch between tabs.
03. Support for FILTERS: Within every folder/ album, option to quickly filter files of a certain type with least number of taps: for example, if inside camera folder, ability to quickly filter only the videos! Or if in the All Media tab, support for quickly filter only the GIFs.
04. Support for ACTION BAR: If a file is chosen, then actions like copy, move, delete, etc. Otherwise, the bar would contain filters, view type, etc.
05. Ability to choose which folders to INCLUDE, and which folders to EXCLUDE: both options must be present.
06. Ability to choose whether to include SUB-FOLDERS.
07. Support for HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.
08. Ability to SHOW FILES FROM FOLDERS WITH .NOMEDIA FILE in them.
09. Support for SEARCH feature, with option to choose whether to limit search to current folder, parent folder or entire storage.
10. Support for RECYCLE BIN.
11. Support for BIOMETRICS: with options to lock specific folders/ albums only.
12. Support for FAVOURITES.
13. Support to PIN FOLDERS/ ALBUMS on top.
14. Support for all types of SORTING.
15. Support for HIDING folders.
16. Support for DIFFERENT VIEWS within an album (e.g. Videos): folder view, timeline view, grid view, etc.
17. Support for SMART ALBUMS: Ability to create an album using a combination of specific criteria: for example, a smart album would be all videos in the Camera folder.
18. Support for editing TAGS.

Ghost commander - very outdated UI and very user UNfriendly.
Is there anything unique about Kiwi, KM?
Musicolet - good music player with no ads. But their UI is cramped with too much stuff and I don't like that.
I will check out the other apps you mentioned.
Keyboard is nice. I like the top bar which is very functional.

As with Music Player, the most important feature for a music app is its ability to organize your music library! Yes, I didn't say sound quality because if you have a good pair of earphones/ headphones, your music will sound good even with the stock audio engine.
I know PowerAmp uses its own engine. I had a rooted device with Viper installed. Nothing beats viper when it comes to music quality. Also, Poweramp did not play well with viper.
I don't like PowerAmp UI, although that isn't very important.
Have you tried PlayerPro? It has features no other player has.
And Playlist Manager? Only app that can create system playlists that can be accessed by all music players.

Karma is interesting. Does it have a 'Allow LAN access only' option like Netguard? This option will only allow apps to connect to devices on your local network, whilst blocking internet access.
What is PDMDM?

Until Poweramp I never created playlists, now I use them constantly. My music library consists mostly of .wav files and including HDCD .wav files. Over 220 gb so management is critical.
Organized as Artist/Album/Track. It's important that each artist/album has it's own folder or at minimum each artist. The integrity of this data base must remain intact for playlist backup to function.
Wipe the phone, restore data base, use the Poweramp saved backup file, punch rescan library and boom within a minute or so it's fully restored including ALL settings. Superb.
I store -all- data on my backup SD card so reloads are a snap. No other apk backs up this well, but the data base must be the same for it to preserve playlists which it will do perfectly.
Make any data base alterations before the most recent Poweramp back up file as it will not detect misplace files in the music library added after the backup ie reorganized on PC. Lol, this I know.
It's audio engine is powerful with many settings that should be fully learned/explored to properly utilize the app. It's graphic equalizer is the best I've ever seen or heard on Android. It allows unlimited EQ profiles to be saved and they can be applied per song, album, playlist as you see fit.
These settings are backed up as well
Without Poweramp my Buds+ would sound like dogmeat; the EQ makes a huge difference.
You can choose from multiple processing engines and dail in their parameters if you wish. Allow to select those properties for each audio output as well. From then on it will shift on the fly with no input.
You have enormous control over all the parameters and aspects of how this app behaves and looks. So many in fact it's downright daunting. A steep learning curve, but you get the most customizable player there is and it will do what you want it to.
Because the complexity you'll need to spend some serious time setting it up to do it right.
Make to backup setting frequently and save at least one copy to PC as recreating the settings be hell.

Does Poweramp support SMART Playlists? NO!
By SMART Playlists, I mean creating playlists automatically based on the music file metadata like Ratings, Comments, BPM, Grouping, Track number, Disc Number, Album Artist, etc. These are information stored inside the music file. So you really don't need to backup your playlists as such.
Desktop Music Managers like MusicBee, iTunes, etc can generate SMART Playlists by reading the metadata of music files. PlayerPro and GoneMAD (though not as versatile as PlayerPro) are the only music players that can generate SMART Playlists, just like Desktop Music Managers.
No more need to connect phone to PC to sync playlists or follow any particular file organization method like the one you described. No need to manually create playlists either (although you have to configure the metadata properly, but this is one-time thing).
Simply copy the music files to your device (you can just dump everything inside a single folder without any structure) and these apps (particularly PlayerPro) can generate your playlists in seconds!
