Google Now on CM10? - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Is there any way to get Google Now (as in the voice features) working on CM10 on the Explorer?

It's working... what's the problem?
I guess offline voice typing doesn't work..

If you need full voice typing, you probably need to Flash full gapps.
Either delete system apps
Or use bhargz16 aokp and Flash full gapps

When I hold the search button to bring up the voice search thing, it says "initializing", then instantly goes to "Didn't catch that. Try speaking again. Retry", without giving me a chance to actually say anything. And this is connected to the internet (via WiFi). I'm not interesting in voice typing, it's the searching functionality I care about.
EDIT: Sometimes it doesn't even show the "initializing" screen, just goes straight to "didn't catch that"

uninstall google search using titanium backup and then install again from play store. Then reboot and it should work.

I also had to reboot between uninstalling with TB and installing from Play Store, but overall, your advice worked and now I have voice working in Google Now, so thanks.

[Q] Restoring Text Messages, am I missing something?

So i've been using Nandroid Browser app to save my text message files from my Cwm backups, mmssms.db and telephony.db and then pushing them to the com.android.providers.telephony/database directory in /data using ES file explorer so i can read them, but when i go to some my contacts, i don't see any texts, even after restarting the phone. Are there any other files i need to be copying and pushing?
In com.android.providers.telephony/database directory, there are 4 files
mmssms.db
nwk_info.db
telephony.db
tether_dun.db
Thanks

Just use Mybackuproot from the market. It allows you to ackup sms and mms and then restore them back to the message list...
I discovered SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Android Market http://bit.ly/ACQlqR recently, and it works perfect. It doesn't restore picture messages, but everything else.
If your backup has several thousand messages (I had around 5000), and you restore, after the restore your messaging app "appears" to be crashed and only shows a black screen. You just have to let it sit open in that state for the messaging app to index all the messages.

Yes there are two ways that I can think of.
The first way is to make a nand of cm9. Nand back to what you want to restore from. Use one of the many SMS/MMS backup and restore apps. Then nand back to CM9 and restore using the app. That is the hard way.
Easy way involves TB if you use it.

I said "if you use it" because of some features it has that will do exactly what you are asking. You don't need to have any backup of your apps from TB at all. All you need is the program and a recent nand.
Titanium has a restore from nanoid option also.

Way to try though man. It's actually phone/messaging storage. Yeah I know they made that one tricky. lol I restore just the data and it works for me. That extract from nand feature in TB is so useful. Ever get a market update and the new version sucks. Just pull the old version from a nand.

First off, your spamming, its good that they put a 5 minute limit on you. This isn't Twitter or Facebook.
You're posting non-sense. If you are stuck in a problem, such as the system not acting properly, flash back to stock using Heimdall.
If its a physical problem (power button not working, etc.) then you need to get that fix, not spam in XDA.
Are you sure you have the right forums?

Do you mean your paid apps are missing? If so make sure you setup your Gmail account and accepted the terms of agreement in Google play. If you did then go to your application settings and clear out the data for your cache and everything. Then try to try out Google play again

Do you mean the apps that are included in the stock ROM like Nova, NFS Shift and the T-mobile apps? Those are never included in custom ROMs. You can back up the games with Titanium Backup and the restore them after flashing a new ROM though.
There's also a thread on the Apps board that links to a lot of the APK's required to return to stock.
I mean like Facebook Pandora and stuff there missing from the market this used to happen back in the old days but I have two different phones with cm build this us happening to my HTC vivid is just fine

Gonna get the stupid question out of the way first... You're signing into google and setting up your sync account and opening GPlay and signing in right? I"m assuming the answer is 'yes'. So... while I think for a sec do this for me...
Go to your Terminal app. Type this:
Code:
pm list packages -f | tee /sdcard/list.txt
...runs...
Code:
exit
Now go to any file explorer and browse to /sdcard/list.txt and open the file then copy the entire contents and either post or pm to me (or email the whole text file to me here).
I'll reply on the thread to keep it going. Then we'll go from there.

Well if you don't have any backup app on your phone and you can't download from playstore, first you have to fix your playstore by clear "data" for the following apps, (Go into settings->apps tab on ALL)
1. Downloader
2. Google play store
3. Google framework services
4. Delete your google account
5. Reboot phone and recreate google account
If you can download from playstore, download "my backup" app, it's great for contacts and SMS (Titanium is the best but not good for contacts and sms).
** If still not able to access playstore, you need to download "my backup apk" and install it.

My backup will backup all contacts, sms, mms, all apps and app data and system data (scheuler, calendar, system settings etc..). The nice thing is when you restore, you have option to do full restore, or just certain apps (with or without app data), or you could restore just contacts/sms/mms/scheduler/system data etc.(individually-one by one), very flexible indeed.
I'm curious why when I was trying to help in the other post you would open a new post with the exact same question?

Google Play Store "No Connection"

So I have a rooted GS3 running stock 4.1.2 and I flashed one of those inverted Google play store apps using twrp. Then when I rebooted my device for another reason and went into the play store, it said no connection even though my WiFi and 4g are both fine. I uninstalled all updates to the app, but then the play store would crash even when running in the background. So I found the latest version of the play store I could online, which was 4.0.2.5 which isn't the most recent. But now I still have the same no connection problem. Any solutions? I've also tried clearing data and cache from the app

This happened to me to me once, I fixed it by restoring a backup. I couldn't really figure out what was causing it. I know I messed it up by clearing data on system framework. But I have no idea how that messed it up.
You could just flash a custom rom and that will fix the issue. The problem is that the playstore is being updated constantly. Any Inverted playstore I have running ends up getting automatically updated to the most recent release anyways, so I just kind of gave up theming it. You probably installed an old version of playstore. The playstore must have some automatic connection protocol that enables it to automatically update without permission, and an old playstore might not allow that connection.
You might just be able to completely delete the playstore from your phone to install a recent one, but I have no idea if that would work. Someone has to know how to fix this without a restore or flashing a new rom.

That will work for sure, just have to find a custom rom you like. Your play store won't restore even if it's backed up through titanium. It's a good idea to have titanium anyway.
Never restore system data, only restore user apps + data. That's known to cause problems after a restore.

Are you new to flashing roms? Just make sure you do all the proper steps first.
Nandroid and unlock bootloader first.
factory reset, wipe cache and Dalvik cache, format system, then flash rom.

That is very strange, give it a shot, flashing a gapps package might work. I do think it's a problem with the Google apps though, so your play store is working right? I think all you need now is let the play store auto update. Maybe there's a way to force it. That should allow the rest of your apps to work.

so if anybody having this problem again
i get mine fixed by doing this :
1. Open any file explorer that have root access
2. Search for a folder named "system" and then look for a folder that says "etc"
3. Inside "etc" folder search for a file that says "host" . edit that text using any text editor
4. Delete everything in the host file
5. Save
I ended up fixing it by flashing another rom, using titanium backup to copy the play store. and then reflashed back to the original rom I was using and then restored with copy of the play store i previously had.

[Q] Google Keyboard Issue

Hello,
Each day when I go into the Play Store to check for updates it tells me that 'Google Keyboard' has an update available. I go ahead and update but the next day it's asking me again to update. This has gone on for several days now. I'm sure there really isn't a update so often.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) with Goodness ROM v10.0.4.1. I really like this ROM and would hate to change but I may have to if this continues.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce
Hi there,
I had a similar issue running mastamoon's unofficial 4.3 build for CyanogenMod 10.2, and even on his unofficial CM 10.1 build.
What I ended up doing, as I recall, was completely uninstalling the app and reinstalling it from the play store. I also have Swype installed on my GS3 (currently running the above unofficial 4.3 CM), so I've stuck with that for the 'mo, but try removing the app altogether and reinstalling to see if that helps.
Do you have any other apps installed, such as Titanium Backup or ROM Manager?

Hi,
Yes, I have both Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. Since I'm kinda new at the ROM scene, can you tell me how to safely remove a built-in app such as Google Keyboard?

Strange. When I look in the Play Store, Google Keyboard is listed there, and I do have the uninstall option on my phone. Try that first, but if you have no joy, proceed below:
If you have TiBU (even the free version, as I recall), you can go to the Backup/Restore tab and scroll down to Google Keyboard.
Long press that, and then you'll be presented with the following options below:
In the first picture (on the left that ends in 47_1.png) are the initial options that appear in TiBU. Swipe left (if you need to) to see something similar to the picture on the right (that ends in 54_1.png).
Right there is the uninstall option, which should work.
Once that's successful, you should be able to re-download the app from the Play store.
Also, a reboot may be necessary after the titanium backup option, if you had to go that route, just fyi.

Hello,
Google Keyboard is listed in the Play Store. I uninstalled it and then I noticed that it said that there was an update available. It sounds like this app is part of the OS and can't be removed. I have no idea what to do at this point short of trying a different ROM.
Thanks for helping.
Bruce
Have you tried going into Settings>Apps, flipping over to all apps, and clearing the data/removing the updates that way?
What about Titanium? Any luck there?

Hey,
I uninstalled the keyboard and immediately it says that there is an update available in the Play Store. I did as you suggested by going into Settings/Apps/All but the program is not there. The same with Tit BU...the file is not there. Can't understand why the OS is staying that there is an update with the program being gone?
Thanks,
Bruce

That's very strange indeed. The only other possibility I could think of, is to switch to another ROM (the CyanogenMod official nightlies have always been good to me), but if you're feeling daring, there's always the unofficial builds from @mastamoon that I linked to a few replies back.
There's also a possibility of finding the actual app in some long-buried system folder. If you use ES File Explorer with root access enabled, try searching for Google keyboard or any combination thereof, and deleting that way.
What about making a backup of your current installation, re-flashing your current ROM, and then wiping the dalvik/cache/etc? If you need to restore anything after that, use TiBU to restore only the app information instead of the data (you'll most likely lose information such as high scores and whatnot from the games you have installed).
You could also switch to another keyboard entirely, such as SwiftKey, Swype or a myriad of others available on the play store, and set that as your default.

I forgot to ask: what happens if you install the update as prompted?

Hello,
If I click on Update it does appear to update but the next day it says there's another update available. This goes on each day. I have swiftkey on my phone but have not configured it for use yet. Maybe I'll try that now to see what happens.
Thanks,
Bruce

TwistingSoul,
Last night I configured SwiftKey (paid version) and set it as my default keyboard. This morning when I turned on my S3 and checked for any updates in the Play Store, The Google Keyboard did NOT show up! I think my problem has been solved, thanks to you! I really appreciate your assistance.
BTW, what other ROM's would you consider to very good, besides Goodness? What do you think of JellyBam? I tried it (v9.1) but my camera froze up so I removed it. I would like to give it a try again sometime.
Have a good Sunday!
Bruce
Way to go! You did all of the hard work, so kudos to you.
As far as your ROM question, I've only ever run CyanogenMod, and various AOKP variants thereof. Hope you can find something that suits your needs.
