[Q] Weird behavior: pull-down notifications triggers lock screen - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

This is a very strange problem I'm experiencing on my S3 (Verizon, 4.1.2 stock rom, rooted)
I have set up a pattern lock screen in my Security settings. When the display has been off for the 1 minute, the pattern lock screen protects the phone on the next wake. However, I also have a home screen widget (via Widgetsoid) to quickly enable/disable the Lock Screen. So for example, I turn off the lock screen when I'm driving or at home, and enable it when I'm in public. Normally this mechanism works just fine.
The problem is, when the lock screen is "Disabled", and I get a notification (such as incoming text), and I pull down my notification screen and then to click on the new notification, this immediately pops up my pattern lock screen. (even though it's supposed to be disabled).
This is not a problem specific Widgetsoid. There are other apps that also has the ability to toggle the lock screen (such as Tasker), and this behavior also happens when I use other means to temporarily disable the lock screen.
Note that this notification-triggers-lock behavior doesn't happen when the Lock Screen is enabled.
I have searched around for any thread that might show something related to this issue, but found nothing that matches the behavior I'm experiencing. Has anyone else experienced something like this, or have an idea of what might be going on here?

anyone?

Notification and Lock screen

So now that we have the new cm12 officially released i am having some issues with the new way notifications and the lock screen works.
To explain:
Whats annoying to me is that when i set my phone to vibrate only (so set sound profile to all) but with the settings to not show the messages on the lock screen, i cant see if i have any notifications at all.
The top notification bar will instead show my provider instead of the icons of lets say whatsapp.
Is there a way to change this?
Next to that have to admit that the priority thing is confusing to me,, i'm never sure what means what and what will actually happen with which setting.
The other issues is the lockscreen, i have a pattern protection setup, and waking the device up should bring me to this screen and not an extra useless lock screen where i have to swipe up so i can do my pattern.
I know its nice if you need quick access to an app like camera, but i dont want it.
anyway to change this?
i have no answer, but i also would like to change the way notifications appear on the lock screen.
i miss the icons in the notification bar. i don't want to see a large rectangle letting me know if there is a text or other notification.
the speed at which the pattern appears is cute the first time, but after that it's excruciating. would like it to just appear.

Flashlight Widget Issue, Lock-Screen Background Issue, Need Help. (SG S5 Active)

Hello Everyone, I'm having a strange issue with the flashlight widget on the Galaxy S5 Active (Model SM-G870A, Android 5.0, Baseband G870AUCU2BOF3), wanting to know if anyone else had/has these problems or if any of you know a solution.
FlashLight Issue
Basically I put the widget for the stock flashlight on my home page, it works just fine, but I noticed that the pull down notification labeled "Flashlight turned on - Tap here to turn off Flashlight." doesn't... turn it off! When pressed from the lock screen (and once the lock code is entered) It simply unlocks the phone to wherever you were. If its pressed in an app, it simply swipes the notification tab back up. The main reason this is annoying is because having the ability to toggle the light from the lock screen could be very handy instead of entering my lock code again to turn it off.
Background Issue
The issue here is at seemingly random times, my wallpaper on the lock screen will appear heavily warped or distorted, usually vertically, until i unlock the phone. Its not so much an issue as it is an annoyance. If anyone has information on this issue or have a solution, let me know.

Lock Screen Notifications - Not Displaying When Phone Is Off

I am experience an issue (what I believe to be an issue) with the lock screen notifications not showing up when my screen is off. When I receive text messages or emails when my phone is off (AOD is disabled and lock screen notifications are enabled) the screen does not turn on and display any notifications (I could have sworn it did on my S6). Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to have it display my notifications when I receive them if my screen is off?

Unless it's built in to an app, the screen does not turn on for notifications. If there's a setting for that I could not find it.
I'd like that too, it works nicely on the iphone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with Verizon that I just bought and have the same issue - it won't show notifications on the lock screen (with AOD off). For examle, any Gmail notifications. The screen just stays blank and does not turn on to show the notifications, unlike every other smartphone today (my Nexus 5X did that). Am I missing something? I can't believe that this awesome phone would be missing such a fundamental feature (i.e. turn on the screen temporarily to show notifications). Other people also have this issue?

Always on Display (AOD)

"Show notification icons on the Always On Display screen if a screen lock type has been set."
Why on earth is that specific requirement needed at the end? I want it activated during AOD even without using some type of lock screen.
Is there a way around this? I just want the small notifications to pop up underneath it.
AOD clearly works without having a screen lock.
I was wondering the same thing. I finally landed on using fingerprint to unlock just so that I could see notifications on AOD.

Any way to disable wake screen for notifications?

I tried to enable from Custom restrictions "Don't turn on the screen" and "Don't wake for notifications" with no luck. Is this a bug or bad user?

Always nice to answer to your own questions . Ambient display -> disable New Notifications. Oneplus logic escapes me.
Disable notifications
Go to the Settings app on android > Sound & Notifications > Scroll Down and App Notifications under notification section > Tap on App name installed on your mobile > Turn off the notification for the app.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, but I wanted just to disable wake screen for notifications not to disable notifications. Was a little confused initially since Oneplus seems to have two settings for the same thing. Got it in the end...
I have the same problem, but your solution does not work for me. As far as I can tell I have everything in ambient display turned off, but the screen still wakes up (to the normal lock screen). To confirm: THE TOGGLE SETTING "NEW NOTIFICATIONS" IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED, WHICH MEANS IT IS OFF. HOWEVER, THE SCREEN STILL WAKES UP.
In addition to that I even have "no notifications on lock screen" selected, which means my screen WAKES UP AND SHOWS NOTHING. It's distracting and useless at the same time. Very annoying.
I have now turned on "ambient display when I pick up the phone". This finally made my screen stop lighting up by itself, though of course now it does it when I pick it up. But at least it doesn't distract me while I'm working on my pc with my phone on the table.
I like my 7 Pro very much...and since this is my 2nd phone from OnePlus, I guess I am fairly satisfied with their implementation of Android Q. However, their way of setting up notifications is one of the worst things I have ever seen! It is convoluted, confusing, and counter intuitive.... not to mention just plain ridiculous. I hope they really get on the ball with the issue of notifications and their useless Horizon light very SOON because a cell phone without proper, accurate, notifications totally defeats the purpose of having a "portable" communications device.

I am having the same issue, how did you get the screen to stop waking up?
I'm trying to find a fix for this, as well. I have an app that wakes screen besides delivering the notification with/without sound. And now I realize I have another one. I also want to have those notifications on, but without waking my screen, just like most of the other apps' notifications. And this is not related to ambient display. In my case, I have stock Android, on a Pixel 3XL.
Thanks!

Actually, there is a fix now, if you run Android 13. Under Apps->Special app access, there is a new option called 'Turn screen on'. I disallowed the annoying app and solved my issue.
I want to disable lock screen wake up for text messages and still no luck on S23. I went under special app access and disabled "Turn screen on" for the messages app (and others), and guess what? The screen still comes on when I get a text. HOLY ANNOYING.
You can turn Lock Screen Notifications completely off, but I dont want that. I want the audible notification to come in without turning the battery draining screen on, and when I tap the screen with my finger I want to see the app badge that tells me when app the notification came in on (signal, or messages, or fakebook, etc). If it's fakebook I may ignore it for example.

As I said in my post, I don't want to disable notifications, I want to disable lighting up the whole screen. The notification icon should show on the always on display without going full annoying brightness on the screen for 5 seconds. That's just dumb.

You might want to consider utilizing the Google Issue Tracker which is a tool used internally at Google to track bugs and feature requests during product development.
For Do Not Disturb - If you have the setting "Always show time and info" enabled (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info) your screen will display a dimly lit clock when the screen is locked, among some other status icons.
In the DND settings, if you check "Don't wake for notifications" and you get a new notification (text, ig, whatever the notification is), it will not show on the screen until you unlock the phone. It will just display that clock and you'll be unaware of the notification.
If you UNcheck "Don't wake for notifications", the lock screen with the large dimly lit clock will change to show the small icons for whatever the notification is.
If you do NOT have enabled the setting "Always show time and info" (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info), I imagine it would be the same behavior, except you would see a difference when you manually wake up (but don't unlock) your screen--you would either see that you got a text message or whatever the notification is, or you wouldn't until you fully unlock the screen.
