[Q] USB tether on A110 OR 3G Data card? - Micromax A110

Hi,
I would like to know which is the best option?
I have a TATA Photon+ USB dongle with a 11GB unlimited plan and I get around 1.7 Mbps (against 3.1 Mbps promised by company)
OR activate a 3G unlimited plan (Vodafone) on my Canvas 2 A110 and use USB tether to connect to my Windows(7)/Linux(fedora) laptops?
Anyone tried this?

I suggest that u stick to dongle because if u tether internet via phone u need to connect the phone via a data cable or use Bluetooth to tether. If you want to get high speed on ur phone u need to set the option to " mobile data transfer data service preffered " which will allow data transmission at full rate but lower call rate.

I would be great if u get a dongle that acts as a portable hotspot that means the dongle has an inbuilt WiFi. So u just need to pug in the dongle to a charger and without connecting it the phone or laptop up could use the WiFi on or laptop or phone at same time.

I didnt understand what you mean by lower call rate?
Do you mean there are good chances of calls being dropped while I tether my phone via USB?
If thats the case - I am fine with it :cyclops:
I found one forum discussion wherein its said that USB tehtering is good:
broadbandforum.co/topic/54478-usb-tethering-vs-data-card/?p=526852

Ya your calls will be dropped

[Q]Android phone as a Wireless Modem

it is possible to use my Galaxy Mini as a WIFI Modem? i want to share the PC internet connection via Wi-FI to my laptop,is it a way to do that? i know that i can use my phone as a modem if i have a data plan, but i dont want that. pls help
ํYou can use Android phone to Wifi hotspot.
Setting - Wireless & Network - Portable hotspot
If I understand correctly you want to connect machines via WiFi to you phone that is plugged in to your main PC which has an internet connection?
Ahh, I know what you want, I used to do it on my iPod.
I'm pretty sure PDANet should allow this, just USB tether with WiFi on, and it shouldn't turn it off.
If it does, then there's another program that I can't remember that does the same thing.

dual home with tether?

Has anyone been able to dual-home their windows pc using a lan with internet, and their phone internet? Reason, personal internet speed sucks compared to 4g, but would still like to access my lan files.
my ip configs:
192.168.0.1 for the lan
255.255.255.0 mask
192.168.43.1 for phone
255.255.0.0 mask
Pretty sure they have to be in the same subset to see each other. So USB tether your phone for internet and that should make it easier to deal with the lan. Otherwise you'll need to set the phone as your gateway to draw internet from it and change your IP to be in the same subset ie: 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.21 etc
If you are connected to both your personal lan and the phone then you can access the lan files.

I can't see why an Ethernet connection to your LAN and a WiFi connection to your phone/hotspot couldn't be active at the same time... going to try it just for giggles, will post in a few minutes if it works

Well, so far I've tried FoxFi, Barnacle, and SVTP WiFi hotspot apps and each has its own issues with my current nightly install of CM10. FoxFi wouldn't activate, Barnacle would but not broadcast the SSID, and SVTP worked up until connecting to my laptop, connection failed.
Maybe someone on a stock or another ROM can try for you... but heck, try it yourself, nothing to loose!
You may have to sync up the subnets though... make them both 192.168.0.XXX for example.

I may have totally missed this last night but the hotspot feature is built in on the 8-31 nightly. I don't use it very much so I may have missed it last night.

it does work in tandem, however the MUCH slower lan network takes speed precedence over the 4g. speedtests with both running in tandem are stuck at 1mbps as opposed to my usual 20 with 4g. Any thoughts on how to get the 4g speeds to take precedence while still retaining my lan connection?
thanks for the feedback everyone!

[Q] wifi hotspot

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows of an Android app that will allow me to share the lan connection on my tablet via wifi?
Have looked at lots of hotspot type apps but the vast majority are simple shortcuts to an exisiting wifi hotspot function that shares the mobile data connection.
Seems daft to me that I have lan and wifi on my tablet but I'm looking at an ap to connect my other devices!
Thanks
Jin
I didnt understand what u said
If u want to share ur tab net to other use wifi hotspot
If u have wifi connection u can connect via wifi

Are you trying to tether your data connection or do you mean using your tablet as a hub for an existing wifi connection?
What phone do you have?
What carrier?
Did you root your phone?
Have you flashed a new ROM?
Sorry but you were rather vague in your post.

Ok thanks. To clarify my tablet (not phone and therefore no carrier involved) has both ethernet and wifi I would like to use the ethernet to connect to my network/internet and then broadcast that connection via wifi.
This is exactly the same thing a normal wifi hotspot does except it broadcasts the mobile data connection as opposed to a wired connection.
The tablet has been flashed with Tims 6 ROM
Don't now if it's possible. On phone it;s not possible to share be a hotspot when you're on wifi. I guess it uses the same piece of hardware. That might also be the case for you with the LAN.
BTW try talking to this guy :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735708
he had sort of the same question perhaps he figured it out?
edit: This is also you i now see.. never mind

How do you have your tablet connected to the internet, wireless or wired? If wired, how did you do that? If it's wireless, you're just using your tablet as a signal booster.
What i'm confused on is if you connected your tablet wireless and want to connect other devices to your tablet's "wifi" which in essence is wifi, why can't that device connect to the same internet as your tablet?
I think we're all a bit confused on what you're trying to accomplish.
Sorry folks struggling here with what you don't get (not being smart just confused)
I have an Android tablet that has both wifi and an ethernet connection, I connect to my network via ethernet and want to use that connection to then create a wifi hotspot for my other devices to connect to.
I already do this with my win7 laptop and am looking for an app to do the same on the tablet.
If my terminology is correct I need to bridge the lan connection to the wifi adapter?

You can download a program called Connectify to create a hotspot from your PC. There are other software that do this as well, I find Connectify to be the best. Once you have made a personal hotspot/wifi from your PC and connected your phone to it, you can use an app such as AirDroid to remote control the pc. Instructions here.
Alternatively if you have a Bluetooth dongle, there are Bluetooth solutions available, such as - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.rozkovec.android&hl=en

I followed your guide but there seems to be a problem with connectify. It doesn't show my phone in the client list. My phone did find connectify but was able to connect only for few seconds and disconnect itself. I am using window 8, android 4.2 and digisol usb wifi dongle. Any solution please.

Not sure why that is happening. However, there are some alternatives you can try to create your own wifi from the PC.
- Use a built in Windows feature by following these instructions
- Try one of these 8 free tools mentioned here which are alternatives to Connectify

How to Use my MOBILEE AS A WIFI ADAPTER ON MY PC?

Hi everyone
I want to use my mobile as a wifi adapter on my WINDOWS PC
I research on internet "how to use my mobile as a wifi adapter"
I have readed only one and only pne answer
"just turn of ur mobile data and then u connect ur android to ur wifi router and then tether ur phone as USB TETHER THAN UR GET A INTERNET. ACCESS on pc "
I dont need like that ...
I need a WIFI ADAPTER LIKE SETTINGS ..
I dont have a usb wifi adapter so i need to use my mobile as a wifi adapter on my pc JUST LIKE WIFI ADAPTER
I dont wanna a tether yo pc. I need a wifi as a adapter
I wanna use aircrack ng and OXID APP ON MY WINDOWS PC SO
Refer me some info fastly
Thanks in advance
Dont get what you really want to do here.
If you want to use your mobile data connection to access internet on your windows PC, you will need to create wifi hotspot in your mobike and then connect you PC to your mobile over wifi.
If you dont need to use mobile data, rather want to use your home internet
1- Assuming your PC does not have wifi adapter. You will need to thether to mobile using USB or Bluetooth.
2- if your PC has wifi adapter, not sure what you are trying to achieve here. Why don't you connect your PC directly then?
I dont have pc wifi adapter ..
