This is a very strange problem I'm experiencing on my S3 (Verizon, 4.1.2 stock rom, rooted)
I have set up a pattern lock screen in my Security settings. When the display has been off for the 1 minute, the pattern lock screen protects the phone on the next wake. However, I also have a home screen widget (via Widgetsoid) to quickly enable/disable the Lock Screen. So for example, I turn off the lock screen when I'm driving or at home, and enable it when I'm in public. Normally this mechanism works just fine.
The problem is, when the lock screen is "Disabled", and I get a notification (such as incoming text), and I pull down my notification screen and then to click on the new notification, this immediately pops up my pattern lock screen. (even though it's supposed to be disabled).
This is not a problem specific Widgetsoid. There are other apps that also has the ability to toggle the lock screen (such as Tasker), and this behavior also happens when I use other means to temporarily disable the lock screen.
Note that this notification-triggers-lock behavior doesn't happen when the Lock Screen is enabled.
I have searched around for any thread that might show something related to this issue, but found nothing that matches the behavior I'm experiencing. Has anyone else experienced something like this, or have an idea of what might be going on here?

Oops sorry. Can a mod move this thread accordingly?
I have the exact same problem on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. We can thus conclude it is not device specific.
I am running native Android, 4.1.2. I think this is an Android bug.
Same problem on Nexus 7 (Android 4.2.2).
I've also searched on several occasions but haven't yet worked out what's going on or how to work around it.

I can confirm I've had this same issue on both Android 4.1 (stock HTC One) and 4.2 (rooted Galaxy SII skyrocket), when used with the "No Lock" app. When locking is disabled, clicking any notification item results in the lock screen being displayed; when locking is ENabled, no issues.
I have this problem when I click a notification in the notification bar, and I know in my case its due to secure settings turning on patern lock for me.

Hi
Apologies for not having this in the ARHD forum but I dont have the 10 posts yet to be able to post in developer forums.
I have come across and issue when using ARHD 6.2.1 and any app to turn off the lock screen such as No Lock, No Lock Screen or Delayed Lock.
Generally I would have the lock screen turned off (sense ring and security pattern) when I am at home and then turn it on when out or at work, but with this rom, or it could be ICS itself, whenever the lock screen is turned off and I hit any notification in the notification bar, the phone locks, I have to swipe the ring, input the pattern and then the screen is locked from then on, even through the no lock widget shows otherwise. It will then stay locked until I hit the no lock widget twice.
I have tried every no lock type app available, go locker, magic locker and none seem to be able to work around the issue. The description of Delayed Lock says this "Since ICS there seems to be an issue when using the "hide lock" method: When clicking on a notification, the lockscreen might be shown. Please use the "deactivate lock" method instead!" but this doesnt work either.
Has anyone else had the same problem and found a work around? Does anyone know if these apps work with Stock ICS on the galaxy nexus for example?
Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.
There is an option in the ROM settings (in the security section) to disable to lock screen without the need for secondary apps.
It works like a charm.
You can switch back and forth between locked and not locked quickly and easily.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Do you mean settings\security\configure lock screen?
Thats the only option I can find in my ROM and if you configure the lock screen to off here, you have to re input it again to turn it on. Hardly quick and easy. It also doesnt bypass the lock ring which the secondary apps do, but maybe I'm missing something or ARHD is missing something from ICS.
What ROM are you running?
Settings/security/screen lock.
Its the top item on the menu in the security screen.
Choosr 'off'. Im on ARHD too and I use this setting so I guarentee it works. (Of coure I have Sense removed so maybe that is a factor)
It takes 2 seconds to set or disable the lock.

Thanks skipjacks, ahh youre not running sense, I guess that's the difference as the settings are sensified.
What did you use to remove sense? I see there's an ahrd mod to remove HTC sense lock.screen that I can try.

Oh right, back to square once then. Because I flashed that last night and while it gives me the (less functional) ics lock screen, it doesn't change any of my settings so I still can't change the lock screen as you suggest.
Can you tell me what phone and arhd version you have? Do you have everything else sense still on the phone?
Hi all. I use the pattern lockscreen on my devices (it happens with any style of lockscreen anyway) and one of the very first apps that I install on my smartphones and tablet is a widget to temporarily disable the lockscreen while at home and whenever else it comes handy to do so. I have used various apps for this but it's 2 years that I use Battery Indicator Pro which is also useful in other ways.
Everything has always worked fine on my Galaxy S (Froyo then Gingerbread), SII (Gingerbread), Note (Gingerbread) and Galaxy Tab 10.1" (Honeycomb) then in January I flashed the Kang ICS on the G.Tab for a few months and more recently I flashed CM9 on my Galaxy S and on both of them when I disable the lockscreen everything seems to work as it should until I tap on any notification in the notification bar. Then my lockscreen appears, I am prompted to unlock it and from then on the lockscreen gets re-enabled until I "re-enable" it via the app I am using and then disable it again. This works until the next time I tap on another notification...
This is not device-specific because I have read about other folks having the same problem on other devices and it's not app-specific because I have tried several apps and widgets with the same exact result. This is something ICS-related.
Please tell me there is a solution for this! On my tablet and my Galaxy S it's extremely annoying but on my Note, my daily driver, it would be unbearable
This is also one of the reasons why I have not yet updated my Note to ICS BTW...
And please don't tell me to "simply" disable it in the settings! LOL
TIA
Hey, I'm having this problem too... have you find any solution for it??? I'm using an app called "Extended controls" which worked pretty fine in GB. I'm a Note owner too btw !!!!!

Nope, no solution other than avoiding tapping on notifications when the lockscreen is disabled...
To enable/disable the lockscreen I am now using the "No Lock Screen" widget (by Futon Redemption) and I have placed one of them on every page so it's at least quick and easy to enable/disable the lockscreen.
I have also discovered that this new behaviour is only triggered by the secure lockscreens (pattern, PIN etc.) but since the least amount of security I am confortable with is the pattern lockscreen that doesn't help me at all...
I can't believe very few people seem to notice, do people actually USE their smartphones?? Or do people just use the unsecure lockscreen on devices where we keep more and more valuable and sentitive personal data??
I think that being able to easily temporarily disable the lockscreen should be one of the very basic operating system features... (as, for example, should be recurrent notifications of missed calls/msgs/etc, another thing for which we have to rely on 3rd party apps...)
Anyone?
I've been having this issue ever since I upgraded to ICS on my galaxy note. I was hoping that the upgrade to JB on my Galaxy Note 2 would fix the issue, but it doesn't.
I used to use a widget on the screen, now I use NFC and NFC Tasker to enable and disable what I call "Home Mode." (wifi, lock screen, volume for ringer, etc).
I know now that it's not a bug for my Note. It's a bug in Android in general. It is really starting to bug me. I'm going to subscribe to this thread because I'm very interested in a solution. It's a pain in the neck
Hello,
I have recently upgraded from Cyanogenmod 10.1 to the latest Cyanogenmod 10.2-20130923 Nightly version and I am facing a problem with the lockscreen.
The lock screen has disappeared and the phone just won't lock. This problem has only happened after updating to the Android 4.3 via Cyanogenmod ROM. I have put the security option as well and tried every possible combination but it just won't show up. Even after setting up the PIN security the phone is still unlocked and it just opens in the homescreen after pressing power or home button.
Please give me a solution to this problem. All the other things seems to work fine.Has any one else faced the same problem?
Thanks,
Nimish
I have exactly same problem with 20130926 on jfltexx. Trying to solve it now.
See this:
There's a lock screen activation button on the quick settings (tiles that come down swiping down on the right side of the screen). It needs to be activated for lock screen to be active.
On logcat, this will only show as:
09-27 14:54:51.290 I/WindowManager( 716): No lock screen!
Either turn that button on, or add that button from settings and turn it on.

This still didn't fix the problem for me. Anyone else have any ideas? I tried changing the lock types but that had no effect either.

I was having the same problem, rebooted and it is now locking.
EDIT: Will work for a little while after rebooting and then goes back to not working.
Same
I also have the same issue where lock screen just stops engaging. It will work fine after a reboot but after a few hours it just stops locking.
This has been happening to me as well, and I just reboot whenever it happens. But, the strange thing is that I've noticed that whenever my phone reboots, I'll usually have a notification for app updates to download. I don't know if there is a correlation between the two things, but it just seems to happen too regularly for it to be a total coincidence. Anyone else have this happen?
Same problem on S3 i9305 LTE
Using CM 10.2 nightly 20131020.
Lock screen fails to appear on power button after working fine all day.
Reboot fixed it last time, but two reboots later tonight and it is still not appearing.
- "Power button instantly locks" option is ticked,
- pattern lock selected,
- auto lock after sleep set to immediate.
- PowerAmp lock screen is enabled but skips pattern lock on unlock request,
though sometimes it doesn't go into locked mode at all.
I've tried with PowerAmp lock screen completely disabled and also with the Android lock screen option ticked. No joy.
Similarly, I've tried adding the Lock Screen item to the Settings tiles and had no luck with that either.
Hope this is getting fixed soon...

Interesting. I just upgraded to CM 10.2 nightly 20131024.
Had the same problem from first boot into that build.
I had Tasker running with a profile that is keyed to my house's WiFi SSID. I disabled Tasker but saw the same problem.
On a hunch, I disabled WiFi and a few seconds later I heard the little 'snict' noise of the lock working, followed by the lock screen kicking in. I've re-enabled WiFi and the screen is locking fine now.
Maybe some interaction with a Tasker profile with a WiFi context and keeps device open even if Tasker is disabled as it can still see the same WiFi SSID ?
Digging a little deeper, I was experimenting with Tasker and its only action is to produce an Alert saying "Home" if it sees my WiFi. Critically, the Action has "Show Over Keyguard" ticked. I've just gone through the process of unticking that option, saving the Action, exiting Tasker, dropping and re-enabling WiFi, (so now Lock screen works), and then rebooting (which causes the Tasker Action to create an alert), and the lock screen is working fine now.
So, kind of looks like going anywhere near that option in Tasker will balls up how the lock screen works, and will stick around even after Tasker has exited unless the criteria it is keyed on changes (i.e. the WiFi state).
Hope that helps someone!

Thank-you - this helped me today!
Couldn't for the life of me figure out why the lockscreen would stop working. I had an exit task on a Tasker profile with an Action where the "Show Over Keyguard" was on. Turning that to off solved the problem.

Same here. Had a Tasker task that was checked to show over keyguard (which I wanted). Unchecked that and the lockscreen has continued to work. Is this a bug with Tasker or CM?

AT&T LG G3, love the phone. I'm down for the lollipop update, but I can't seem to remedy one new Lollipop problem.
At various times, i haven't figured out exactly what causes it, but when i drag down my notification bar, during just normal use of my phone, I can see various notifications from applications, but NO DETAILS, only a line saying "Unlock to see sensitive". Of course my phone is unlocked as I AM USING IT!! I tried going into settings/sound/notifications/turning SHOW ALL NOTIFICATIONS on, and then you can go into apps individually to set notification preferences, but nowhere does it say anything about setting sensitivity for individual apps. This seems to be a bug. I've dug through all the possible settings.
One example that has happened to me many times is i'll be on the phone talking, i hear a notification tone, put on speaker phone and drag down my notifications to see what it is, and i only see the app icon, with "Unlock to see sensitive". Then if i press the notification it brings up the application no problem, but that is a pain and i didnt want to open the app, just see the notification. This is sure frustrating.
Any help greatly appreciated.
???????
I am also having random occurrences where all of my drop-downs say unlock to see sensitive. Locking and then unlocking the phone fixes it I have no idea what causes it
I am having the same issue haven't figured out the cause or a fix
I just started having the same issue. I went to Display >>> Lock Screen and noticed that my setting had been set to Swipe to Unlock, even though I've always had it set to None. I switched it back to None and now I can see the notifications again.
This randomly happens to me too. Checking the power button automatically locks screen option is a bandaid solution for me
Some of the toggles Don't work from the lock screen. For example, the flashlight toggle does work but the WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC toggles only work if I unlock the phone. It's pointless to have those toggles appear in the pull down shade if they don't work.
Is this how all Galaxy models work? This is my first Samsung Android phone so pardon the question is this is obvious to others.

This is a Good Thing. It's a LOCK screen. Anything that changes the device SHOULD be locked out until you get past the lock screen (and whatever security you have in place.)

I asked because this is the first Android device I've had that behaves this way. My Nexus and Sony devices allow toggling those functions from the lock screen. While I appreciate your opinion I'm interested to know if this is a Samsung feature and if there's a way to change it.

This is also the first I've had that does this - including a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (still on lollipop.) It always annoyed me that I had my screen locked with a fingerprint, but anyone could toggle wifi, bluetooth, NFC, and all kinds of other things that impact functionality when my device is supposed to be locked.
This might be something in android 6, or it might be something Samsung is doing for android 6. (I don't have another device with MM, so I can't answer that.)
Edit: one interesting thing is that you CAN turn off wifi, etc from the lock screen pull down IF you don't have a secure lock screen (or if the lock screen is bypassed via smart lock.)

Maybe that's it, I use the fingerprint lock. I am able to work around it by using PowerToggles but it seems redundant to add toggles to a lock screen that already has toggles. Oh well, at least I can do it.
For my work I am constantly turning flight mode on and off, prior to OS update last night, I could toggle flight mode while screen locked. Now when I toggle it on or off, it asks for my finger print/ code, which is very annoying, as I don't want to unlock phone, and I have to re-lock it, even more annoying. Why the change? And how do I get it back to toggle it while locked?
Sorry to reopen this but there is any solution to this?On my wife´s s6 edge plus with latest android 7.0 can on/off toggles without asking about fingerprint/code...

If you are rooted, you can edit the toggles with something like GravityBox (be warned though, Samsung devices don't like when certain SystemUI items are removed or blocked). For some reason, you HAVE to have a minimum number of toggles on 6.0 Samsung phones. You can't remove all of them, but you can change the order in which they appear. I can confirm I can toggle WiFi and etc from my lock screen as well. Though I don't really have an issue with it as I rarely keep anything worth something to me or anyone else on my devices. I don't even have bank accounts or credit cards linked to any device so this really doesn't bother me. I figure if you can lock and or erase your device remotely, if it goes missing, that's good enough for me.
the setting you are looking for is on my S8 in Settings / secure lock settings / lock Network ans security
this allows you to either enable or disable flight mode on the lockscreen
