Delete gmail.apk from /system/app. Reboot. Rename the new one to gmail.apk and move to /system/app, and set permissions to rw-r--r--. Reboot. Smile.

Works great doesn't it? I had one FC while sending an email but the message still went through. Expect some bugs and more polish in the official app but this will hold us over. :highfive:

Only tested on the latest nightly of cm10 personally but so far its fetched email ok for me

if you login gmail via computer and click on settings, there is a option in there to turn it off

Do you know if this app will work on an ICS ROM? Or do you need a JB ROM? Thanks!

Looks like its only been tested on jb so far. I'd imagine it would work on ICS.

I might be completely missing a setting here but are you referring to turning off Conversation View in General Settings? If so, I already have that off in my Gmail and it still shows up as threaded in my Gmail App.

There's no need to do any pushing or renaming. Just install the apk as you would with any other and it will ask if you want to update it over the current one.

Thanks for the share. Love the new swipe action (ala webOS) and finally pinch to zoom.

For some reason the attached file for the zip doesn't show on phone browser. Look up the link on your PC and you'll see it there just fine.

Ive tried pushing and flashing.
Flashing every zip found on XDA for the 4.2 camera.
It records fine. But the recorded video doesbt play.
It reads 'video can't be played' and then it gets deleted. :/

Which app are you using to play it, look for MX player in the play store, let me know if you get a different result!

Update. Sadly it doesn't. I can record and view my ffc videos but not with the back camera.

not sure lol. i just tried to install it but this is what i got (check the photo) . but in his video it showed the gmail app worked perfect. my phone isnt rooted at the moment so idk why it wont install.

If you are getting random force closes thier is a 4.2 Gapps package floating around that you can flash in cwm or twrp

FYI, one thing I've noticed about this zip is that it may install some apps in non-standard locations, such as gmail in system/app. Since this is different than other gapps packages (gmail is usually not included, so is installed via market to data/app), the CM backup script won't keep this from ROM flash to ROM flash unless you follow up with this app package flash again.

Anyone have any issues with the 4.2 Play store? I can't figure out why this is happening, but out seems only a handful of my apps are compatible. I had originally changed my LCD.density to 210, and then read that it had to be set to one of the non-custom numbers of 160 or 240, so I changed it to 160 (for fun), but it appears I have the exact same problem.
I never had an issue with the play store or apps requiring 160 or 240 (though I know some apps and games won't be compatible unless the LCD.density, the model, and manufacturer are changed in the build.prop file)... So the 160 or 240 setting seems incorrect.
Anyway, I have tried clearing data/cache for the play store, and the same thing for Google services framework (and reboot), but still have no change.
Could it be anything else in my build.prop file?
I am running Baked Black Bean (a JB 4.1.2 AOKP ROM).
Any thoughts or help are appreciated!

Don't like the keyboard. When I swipe, it wont show my swear words, such as ****, ****, ****, and so on, even though I saved the words to my dictionary. **** always shows as duck and I can never type ******. I will stick with Swype Hopefully Android will allow to swipe custom saved words in the future / official release.

I've been waiting for this to come to Android for a while, and when it does, Samsung locks up an exclusive!
Well, I say, fark that. I grabbed it from the Play Store with an Android VM. I wanted it for my N7, but it doesn't quite work (the white background is reversed to black; I suspect because it's not compatible with 4.2).
But it seems to work perfectly on my One X. I've uploaded the (free) .apk here. Try it yourself.

That's odd, because it works on the Note 2, which ships with 4.1. Guess it's not just the version.

Could be there are some incompatibilities with the new Sense. Someone else had issues with a One X+.
I'm still on ICS, so I couldn't tell you.

I've tried to install this apk on my Acer A700 wich runs under CM 10.1 and it doesn't work at all ! I only see a litlle "Wacom" logo !
Everybody knows a good application wich remplace this one ?

It doesn't work on my One or my Nexus 7 either. I think it is deliberately not optimized for non-Samsung devices.

Instagram 4.0.0 on Evita

Has anyone gotten the 4.0.0 update yet? I don't think the new version works with our device yet - I downloaded the APK someone else pulled off their device and it force closed when I tried taking video. Maybe the app doesn't work right on Sense 5. Would anyone mind downloading the APK for themselves if they don't already have it and giving it a shot?

I have instagram on my nexus 4, version 3.5.3, and it won't let me update to 4.0 in the play store.
It says it supports some for 4.1+, and are adding new devices, so Evita, mako, etc.

Instagram 4.0.1 hit the Play Store around 0400 UTC today ostensibly with official Evita support, but I'm still getting FCs when I go to record with the video camera, even after clearing dalvik/cache. Can anyone else on Sense 5 confirm? Might just be an issue exclusive to this ROM.

RUU'd to 3.18 last night and tested it on a bone-stock ATT ROM. It worked flawlessly there. "Cannot connect to camera" on MagioROM.

Anyone get bookmarks sync working? Copied chromebookmarkssync.apk to system, Internet now shows up under my Google sync options, but it fails within 5 seconds of enabling with a sync error.

i used the one from my dna and far as i know it goes in system/apps all i did was insert it there check perms and reboot and go to google account and check internet setting and clicked on bookmarks in browser and it asked if you want to link to them

I was having the same problem as you. Go to Accounts & Sync then Google, and make sure Internet sync is checked. Mine wasn't. Once I checked it, bookmarks started syncing!
I'm also using the AOSP browser, which is the best one out of them all.

I can also verify that flash isn't working with this browser. It is working with chrome.
