4.2.1 is not that bad, it has actually improved things a lot. Have you tried performing a cold boot? Also, the tf700 was the first of its type, first HD screen etc. so it is older than the Nexus 7/10. The Nexus' both got bigger GPU's. But I will say I do not get any lag or performance problem on my tab. But it is unlocked and I do mod it. The ASUS' roms are not that great, but 4.2.1 it an improvement over 4.1.1 by far. And if you dont like the tf700, return it, but have fun typing on a touch screen lol, the little bit of lag is worth the keyboard.
PS,have you looked in other general threads about how to improve the performance? IF not, you need to head there before comparing this tablet to any other because the Transformer line is unlike any other out there.

Yes i did the cold boot, and i cant return it because i bought it from a friend. I can compare with others in the same cindition, out of the box.
My last option is to get rooted, try if at least i can gain of device and delete "asus mags and books" thats keep hidding "google play" original ones

Books: moon+ works fine.
Pdf: adobe is slow on everything... Try perfect viewer.
Browser: firefox works so much better.
You can disable most bloatware without rooting, just go to settings-apps-all and hit 'disable' for each of them. I disabled all asus apps...

Funny. I tried Firefox a couple of days ago, and it was so incredibly slow and laggy (trying to read e.g. XDA) that I uninstalled it within 10 minutes.

There's no way to get disable myBooks. Let me know if you can do that. The other thing is that the bloatware from asus blocks google play books, movies, magazines. I bought couple of mags and books and cant read them, i think i will sell this piece of s***t, maybe i go for nexus, i trust google performance.

If you are that unhappy just sell it. People here are trying to help and you are not being very kind or thankful at all. I can tell you right now that my tf700 is much faster than the Nexus. I am very much happy with it, but I see all these posts about the tablet being crap, if you dont like it, sell it, just get it done and over with.

Really? That's odd, it is quite fast for me, and doesn't freeze or crash. Though of course that's on pure stock; it'll never be able to compare to your streamlined system

I don't even have MyBooks. Do you mean MyLibrary? If so, you selected it as default when you first opened the files. (I always select 'just once'.)
Try resetting your app's preferences. (settings-->apps-->all-->MyLibrary-->scroll down to default actions--> Clear default.)

Iam very kindfull with you guys, i want it to give a shot to the infinity, rooting it.. What dont want is people believe that the tab is smooth taking out of its box, because is not. If people have the option, they can think twice before wasting their money and go for nexus 10 or even 7.

Lol it is not a waste of money. It is just not the latest so it dont come perfect out of the box. Rooting it may help a little but unlocking and installing a custom rom will make it a whole new tablet. IDK why ASUS has to bloat everything. If 4-5 guys who take their own time can make it run like a champ, why cant ASUS do it? Beyond me but for those want the most you must unlock. If you want something that is very easy to use out of the box, pick the Nexus or iPad, but you wont be getting a keyboard or 12 hour battery life with either, or as good of performance out of the Nexus or iPad with a modded TF700.

Cromi is the best out there. It is based off stock 4.1.1 ATM as the new 4.2.1 is in the process of being cromi'd.

The answer to that question completely depends on personal opinion/personal preference. Personally, I am on stock rooted until CROMI-X becomes based off of asus stock. If you want mostly stock cromi/cromix is the way to go. Little to no issues and sbdags is a great dev who somehow eliminates most lag while increasing battery life.

The CROMI one that is based on 4.1.2 has little to no issues (none that i could find). The one that just came out (CROMI-X) is based off of the 4.2 tf300 rom and is therefore not very optimized for the tf700. it works fine (no major issues) but people have been experiencing slight lag. Sbdags says that he plans on updating the rom to the tf700 build in the next week or so which *should* be frickin fast with no major issues like camera or non working bt. Since it is based off of stock, it should not have any more problems than a stock rom has.

These are my suggestions to improve and maintain performance:
(1) Disable all unnecessary bloatware that comes pre-installed. In general, "unnecessary" is defined as apps you don't use or are poorly designed. This is a critical step.
(2) Chrome is reliable, but still relatively slow on any Android device. Consider alternatives- especially Boat Browser-since it manages memory extremely well. With Boat, set it to cache to SD card. Boat is MUCH faster than Chrome.
(3) Eliminate performance degrading apps such as Facebook (use web version), Goggle Maps (generally not needed on Tablets), Live wallpapers, the relatively useless, performance draining pre-installed AccuWeather widget, etc.
(4) Try to avoid free apps that use in-app advertising. In SOME cases, going to a paid version* will address the issue. However, with location services- actually doing anything on the Internet- not only is your privacy routinely compromised- so is your device's performance.
(5) Avoid resource intensive anti-virus/malware apps. Dr Web Lite and Zoner are less resource intensive than say Lookout. On the flip side- avoid apps that are almost by definition malware such as free MP3 downloaders.
(6) Consider occasionally cold booting and/or clearing browser cache.
(7) Manage file directories, placing work in folders, etc. In other words, organizing your files/folders for ease of access.
(8) Disable in-app location, notification and synching services- unless you feel they are necessary.
None of the above dilutes the user experience and almost all would apply to any Android advice. Also, while one may reply on Google Maps or Voice on the smartphone, is it really necessary on a tablet? In general, one should inventory the apps one uses- and uninstall those apps that are infrequently used- or are more effectively used on a smartphone- or through a web browser. Even apps that are not in use- can run background services- diluting performance with no benefit.

Actually- just disabling the apps will stop them from running. There are a few Asus specific "bloatware" apps that cannot be disabled- but I have not found that these particular apps are a problem.

[Q] Performance Problems whit Transformer Eee Pad

Hi there..
Im very disappointed whit the performance from Eee Pad. Moving between the screens is not fluent, after installing the Prime Rom v1.5 it was better, but thats not the only one issue..
So, first as wrote: Moving betweens the screens, not fluent, then moving in the App Menu, not fluent too.
Seccond problems and which are very important for me, if this Eee Pad is for a normal daily use or not, whit my experience in the last two day, more not than yes.
Biggest performace issue, i think it have something whit the flash, is browsing and the market. The response time in browser is more than bad, sometimes the browser need two/three secconds to execute a command like a simple click on a link button. Writing in a forum its very terrible, the capitals comes to late, sometimes it skip some capitals or free space between the words, the keyboard have lags and its not fast.. Sometimes the page didnt show correct, the only way to get it right, close the browser and open it again.
If i browse in the market at the same time im in internet, the scrolling is so ****ing slow and so ****ing laggy, its really not acceptable.. the scroll speed in the browser self is not much better..
This problem stil exist, it does not matter stock or custom rom..
Im really really disappointed about this, i paid the device 650CHF, its around 500€ maybe more, but my galaxy s 2 works much better and faster, really its not a joke!!
My question at you, did somebody share this experience whit me or im alone whit this opinion??
If some DEV read this Theard, then i would ask it all, is there a fix which we get soon to fix this performance problems? Otherwise, i will sell this device..
Many thanks!
Best regards,
Adnan.

Thers some performance problems but not many now, many are problems with honeycomb and tegra aupport since theyre both relatively new. Did you do a clean flash of prime 1.5 and overclock? That seemed to fix a lot of problems for me. Honeycomb 3.2 should fix a lot of problems and hopefully it wil be available to us within the next few weeks.
Weird. I don't have any of those problems, except making a post on this forum takes forever for the letters to show up in the box.

take a look on this review, --> title in youtube --> iPad 2 vs Asus EEE Pad Transformer - quick comparison <-- i have the same problems, and maybe bit more.. you see when hi try to scroll, it works after third try, or when hi try to press the full screen button for video play.. so when you the whole day press everything two three times, its very bad.. move betweens the screens its not so bad, bud not fluent..

Have you tried installing system panel, then loading the kill all widget, the white X looks the best and goes with the desktop weather app etc. Just click on it to end processes. I stopped using a task killer on my HTC Desire HD with 2.3 but think Honeycomb still needs one at this moment in time. Opera mobile sorts lag in typing on XDA, also great for pinch and zoom in youtube web page.

[Q] What are you looking forward to in ICS for the Transformer?

We've got a bunch of great ROMs out and many are ICS themed. And ICS seems like a bigger update for phones than it does for tablets anyway. So then, what do you hope for in an ICS release for our Transformers (besides for CM9 )?

I know I'm asking too much but would love 1080p recording and playback.
I also hope they fix the hdmi panasonic plasma issue fixed here by clemsyns kernel.
new style, new features, new market,
maybe faster and optimized.
but most for a browser which is fast, has no keyboard input lag, and handles the dock well with german language
Most important to me:
1) Fix conection to Panasonic plasma via HDMI
2) Create folders on home screen without any launcher
how about no crashes... my browser will close without FC message on random pages.
what i am most looking forward to it is coming out and these anticpation threads drying up!!
That some apps that block HC will now be supported.

I have read that ICS will finally bring cisco ipsec to android which i am eagerly awaiting.
I am also hoping the javascript engine on the browser will be improved to make browsing better and quicker.
other than that i just want some more RTS games to be released for android.

I'm looking forward to a significantly faster browser (according to early reports), and the ability to kill tasks without needing to install a third-party app to do so. (Now we just need a way to prevent tasks being automatically killed when not in the foreground.)
I want a browser without keyboard lag.
the keyboard lag, is that when characters with accents pop out of nowhere?
I think it may have to do with the rendering or something. Opera Mobile seems to basically stick in a native widget, usually looks wrong but works; the stock browser otoh seems to do it like a desktop browser would.

TF700T a Bit Laggy....Apps to Blame?

Hey guys. Just got the Infinity. Physically the device is great. Love it. Noticed after loading a couple of apps (not many) that the tablet seems a bit laggy going from program to program and screen to screen. And even some app crashes. Ran pretty smooth on initial use as they always do. It shouldn't be laggy at all with the specs. Could I have an app that's not written for a tablet causing a problem? Memory issue? Or anyway to check that this thing is running like it should? I would think it would be smooth as glass. Not overly concerned but just a bit. I've only had it for two days so just generating some dialog. I hate to jump to a "return it" attitude as the next one I get may have another issue or do the same thing.
Also it seems most programs aren't written yet to see the "microSD" card and treat the internal "scdard" as an external. Went through this with my Galaxy S3. Here we go again!
no lag on mines. i downloaded a couple of torrents last night and still was able to do other things without hiccups.

You're probably new to this forum?
This is a known I/O issue on this device. Everyone has it, one way or another.
Currently there are speculations that it is due to SW and not HW, so it will be fixed eventually.
Try turning off wi-fi or wait for some time for the tablet to settle down after heavy downloading and installing.
It should get better.
But, as soon as you are downloading something or copying and such ... and when you try to do other things in parallel ... the tablet will get laggy again.

Yes i am new to this device and this section of the forum. Thanks for the info. Glad to know it's probably SW and not hardware as this is frustrating. Is fast then bogs down quick. Maybe a custom ROM to fix this soon.

Tried the tablet the whole day with new apps, loading archives, extracted 600mb while watching youtube in HD, no problems yet. But I only have a few apps installed yet.
Only thing I saw is when the tablet switches from landscape to portrait, the wallpaper jumps from the left side to the right and gets then finally centered. A bit annoying.

Glad to hear (sorta) that it's happening to others as it denotes a software issue and not hardware. Hard to tell sometimes. I would certainly want to return it if there was a memory or CPU issue but obviously don't want to go through that hassle if I don't have to. Went up to BB today and they didn't have the Infinity but did have a Prime. The Prime was fast and I asked the salesguy (who claimed to know all about the tablets) to see if mine seemed laggy to him. He said it looked great but it also was not connected to wifi. It did seem to run faster without wifi. Starting to lead me to believe that the radio firmware is not perfected and when connected or connected to a poor wifi source it slows.
When I got my Galaxy S3 it was a little laggy even with a custom ROM until I connected in anther state to LTE and the phone was smooth as butter. Wifi performance does seem to affect the entire use of the phone/tablets quite a bit.
Not apps to blame but android 4.1, for poor optimization

Maybe JB will fix some of this. It's supposed to be smooth. That is whenever we get it.
Prime users have been reporting big improvement with JB. Since ASUS likes to use the same NAND across all its tablets, it should help us out as well.

Thanks for the info. This gives me hope. Hey I'll be in SFO this weekend. Can't wait to stroll around downtown amongst the homeless and do some photography.
Mine was laggy as all get out for the first day. Especially while installing apps. Since then it seems to have settled in. Kinda like when you flash a new ROM and it takes a day or two before starting to act right. I was admittedly a bit concerned at first I've I've been on the edge of my seat awaiting for this device, but I'm really happy with it now.

This is good to know. Thanks. I did a hard reset and it helped a bit. Still laggy and the wireless is not stellar but as long as it's not the hardware I'm ok with it as JB is coming and custom ROMS. I do appreciate the feedback. Thanks. :good:
BTW: How are things in Fayette-nam? I used to fly in there a lot.

The hardware seems to be rock solid, JB or just some updates will likely iron out a vast majority of it's problems. Keep in mind we're all early adopters, these sorts of things are to be expected. Fayetteville is...well it's Fayetteville.

I've applied the scheduler change, most of the build.prop tweaks and the minfree modifications from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758160
Overall it seems more responsive. The tcp buffer changes in build.prop helped a LOT with wifi performance. went from buffering streamed 720p movies to almost being able to handle a pretty high bitrate 1080p movie.

I just got the device so I need to start reading up on rooting and doing some tweaks. I guess it's a good time to root it. If there are problems I am still within my time to return it.
The new firmware should solve a lot of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800593&page=2

Where are they getting this update? I'm currently on US 9.4.5.21 and there is no OTA update and the latest on Asus' site is 9.4.5.22
Try updating to .22 manually and then check for OTA updates in the system settings.

Chameleon Beta

Finally got my registration code for the Chameleon Beta - was so excited to try it out - but it simply crashes as soon as I run it... Tried rebooting, re-installing, etc - no go.
Anyone else able to run it on their TF700?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Hey!
I've got my chameleon today, too. It didn't crash but it was not responding for some time (pressed Wait) and it went through.
Pretty dissapointed i must say. Can't really consider this a beta release. More like alpha
It is VERY slow. Some parts are clearly not optimized for infinity. Weather widget doesn't scale correctly. Mail only shows unread mail, and as i am considered a mail ninja, i pretty much don't see anything there (i have my inbox cleaned and read). I am not interested in Instagram, Twitter, so other currently available widgets are not of any use for me.
Anyway, I really hope it gets better with further releases, specially for tablets with high resolution.
Currently, in a state as is, can't beat my Apex launcher, or any other for that matter.
Can you post some visuals (screenshot)?
Hey,
I have just tried to snap some screens, but I do not have nerves for this. It is just too slow.
Before I am able to add an account and such, I can run around my house, make a coffe and maybe smoke one...
I don't know, maybe there's something wrong with my current environment, which is kinda bloated right now, but Apex runs buttery smooth, so i don't think so. The funny thing is, transitions from one screen to another, scrolling inside widget (tried only one and weather), app drawer - they are really smooth - but adding a widget - OMG. I can't do it, sorry.
Maybe with next release or if someone else has more luck or patience.
I would *love* to try this, but no matter what I do, it just crashes instantly.
Are you rooted? Unlocked? Just trying to figure out what I can't get it to run at all...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Rooted, but not unlocked.
To those who have it running but report that it's really slow: have you tried forcing 2D hardware rendering?
I imagine due to the resolution of the TF700 display, anything not coded to use hardware rendering will be impossible to run at any usable speed.
OK, I have tried your suggestion.
It gets a bit better, but when it comes to the keyboard and typing, still too slow.
They said they will update app every week, so i hope we'll get some better builds soon.

Just curious - are you on .26 firmware or a previous version? I was reading a review and they said that it quit working after they upgraded to .26 firmware. Just curious what version you were running....
Thanks.

Yes, the latest one - .26
Pretty sure they'll fix it sooner than later
I have it running. Yes is slow, i use force hw 2d, but is not impossible to play with. Impossible as a daily launcher to, unless you want to feel like your in matrix bullet time...
Lack of widgets is also a shame for a beta, but those that are there work as id hoped!

If memory serves, they closed their kickstart and reopened it because of someone leaving the company or whatever. Is that kickstart still open? I wouldn't mind kickin some money over to be part of the alph/beta/prerelease, whatever they want to call this mess. I really like the direction they are trying to go with this.
You can still be able to get prelase from their website. It costs 10CAD though. Not sure how much it was when in kickstart phase.

I was a Kickstarter supporter, and I also received my "Golden Ticket" yesterday. Installed it on my Infinity and started playing around with it. First, as everyone states, there are precious few widgets at the moment - News, Weather, Gmail, Twitter (can't remember if there are any others). News has a limited number of sources, none of which I regularly read. Weather is OK, but you can get that in a million different ways at the moment. Gmail shows unread only. I don't use Twitter - I have an account, but no desire.
Performance-wise, it is slow but then this is an early beta. There is just no way this could be used at the moment for your launcher. How you edit the panels you put on the screen is not intuitive - I found myself going back to some of their demo videos to try to figure out how they were doing things. I tried to set up a time-change screen, but the event was never triggered so the screen never changed.
I am happy to see a released version, but I would have been far happier to have waited for something a little more fully-realized. At the moment, there is no published API or anything which might allow me to look at developing a widget of my own (yes, I know it is a beta, but when you are a small company, you might want to get other developers on your side enhancing your product). This may be a month or two away from establishing a base level of functionality that would make it a lower end competitor of other launchers.
I like where this appears to be going, but I wish they would have waited on the release until there is substance. I will check back in on Chameleon in a few weeks, but I am not sure when or even if this might be ready for actual use.

The Chameleon team has stated that this is a known bug and what you have to do is simply reboot your tablet, if that does not work then uninstall the app, reboot, re-install and activate and then reboot again.

you do know that this is a PRE-Beta and not a Beta. Tekinson states clearly that is a very very very buggy version. There will be a API when its Beta and also this version is a trimmed down version none the less. If you watch the videos you will see that they have more widgets and more options then our build. Basically they want to test their launcher on every device out there.. and what better way then to have the community that wants the launcher test it for them and give them their own feedback.
I think its genius personally.

I agree 1000%. This app has amazing potential and I am sure that once beta, and then the official final release comes out, we will see a big difference. It pisses me off that so many people don't read the info, and have been giving a low star rating in GPlay.

Hmm, I just tried those things and it still crashes instantly... Do you have a link to where this is discussed - I'd like to read through it myself.
Obviously, it's not a huge deal (not big enough to make me restore to factory defaults and try again), since it's really not ready for "daily" use, but I still would like to at least try it out on my TF700....
Thanks!

My New Tf700.. Noobs questions

Hi xda forum! I'm new, my name is Stefano, italian.
I bought my new Infinity Pad and i have some questions, 'cause it's my first android device.
I noticed that the device isn't so smooth, especially in navigation. I can't understand why! Do i have to do something (factory reset? it's new...).
1- What's the best browser to get?
2- What has to be done to flash a custom rom? i read the guide, but i'm still confused ; in order to flash a rom i have to: become root, unlock bootloader, install recovery, and then how to install the rom? (zeus v4)
3- If I flash the zeus rom, how can i upgrade to jelly bean when the update comes out?
Thank you very much
1) The best browser is mostly depending on what suits the user. I prefer chrome because i use it on all of my devices and computers. Some people prefer the stock ICS and JB browser, others use opera, dolphin or firefox. (those are the top 5 browsers of choice)
2) Before you flash a rom you do need to be rooted, bootloader unlocked and a custom recovery needs to be flashed. flashing a rom isnt the hard part, its making sure you obtain root and unlock the bootloader which is more tricky. although, there are risks and things to be aware of when flashing different rom.
3) if you flash zeus's rom then you wont be able to receive the OTA update. you will have to wait until someone posts a rooted and unlocked version of the OTA.
read up on the forums about rooting and unlocking bootloaders and understand what it does BEFORE you start doing it. you need to understand all the potential risks involved and get familiar with ADB and its basic commands. when you start rooting and unlocking bootloaders you may run into problems and brick your device. with it being your first android device, i suggest you take the time to learn android and what kind of features it offers before you dive into changing system files and flashing roms.

Try the Dolphin browser from the play store it's flash capable and seems very speedy of late.

First of all: all of the above in the answer of Vegandroid is correct.
Some also say Boat browser is the fastest and (overall) best browser yet for the tf700.
Maybe you should reinstall Flash, since the stock browser should always display Flash correctly.
Hope this helps!

I solved the problem downloading from a different source the .apk .. Now all works fine.
A different matter instead is that i noticed some stuttering in scrolling pages (in browser, supernote ecc ecc) it seems like it suffers from bad management of animations .. for example when i scroll a simple pdf file it isn't very smooth.. is that normal?

Glad you got flash working!
I don't see a lot if any stutters with mine.
Try to use task manager to kill off anything running in the back.
Go into settings and try to disable some of the crapplications you can do without too.
These were suggestions from other guys here at XDA they helped me a bit.

The first thing I do with any of my android devices from ICS on is go into Settings/Developer Options and either reduce animation settings to none or at least to .5. This helps to increase smoothness in scrolling.

Already done .. Maybe is just me , i'm not handy with android os and i can't tell how much the lag is.. i also disbled some stock apps.. i feel like some animations aren't smooth at all.
Android 4.0 isn't as smooth as iOS. It gets better with 4.1 but it's hard to tell how much improvement we'll see on the Infinity.
And I would stay away from taskmanagers. Android can handle that on its own most of the time. If an app is misbehaving its enough to kill it in the settings/app section.

honestly, i hate apple... i have an iphone 4 and a 4s but i dont think android will be as stable and smooth for a little while. they have an os thats optimized for one phone, one ipod and one tablet. all of these different devices that android runs on has to be optimized specifically. i hate to be that guy to say that because i will never use apple products other than to test them and play with them, none are used as daily drivers. ill go back to using my lg double play before using an iphone 5.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
yes, i was playing with one yesterday at work. i have 4.1 on my s3 and its sweet and smooth. ios just doesnt have the kind of software issue that android does, gpu rendering is still not fully optimized for android devices. thats no way keeping me from using android, but its not like ios is a completely **** os compared to android.
EDIT: also to the dude who wanted to get flash working.... pointless to do it now because once JB is released adobe isnt supporting it.
