Roaming Glitch - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have seen this now on several ROMs and would love a fix for it! !
I live in a fringe area and with certain ROMs I am getting a roaming notification when on network extender. Then with other ROMs it is not there.
It seems to be with ROMs that have international features built into them.
Question #1 is anyone else out there experiencing this? (I have spoke to a few)
Question # 2 If there isn't a fix for this. .. Does anyone know how to just delete roaming entirely from the system?
Thanks in advance!

I too would like a solution to the roaming issue.

I just enable roaming and I never have any more issues. VZW hasn't charged me for it either

What's bizarre is it happens on some roms and not others. Would be nice to know what is causing it!

On AOSP roms it's most likely due to RIL issues I would assume.

4G toggle?

So did some research an found phone info the app, but have heard negative things regarding it. Are there any other 4G toggles available? If not, is there any that exist in custom roms or rooting? So far this phone on 4G has battery life of my nexus on 3g. So that's very impressive but it'd be nice to turn it off to save battery when needed.

Not really. This phone has an alarming amount of data issues. It seems that once you turn 4G off you won't be able to get it back unless you restore a nandroid. The only way to safely turn off 4G is to turn off mobile data altogether.
Damn. That is pretty disappointing to hear. I hope that they fix this or some dev is able to correct it. Very annoying.

No no stop with the missinformation. Phone info works on stock and synergy. Phone info will not work with beansrom and/or jellybomb theme.
I use phone info app everyday with synergy1.6 without any issues since my job is 3g only

So if I'm just running stock rom, I should be fine to use phone info?
I haven't had any issues, and I am running Synergy 1.6 so yeah I think it is safe to use.

[Q] Will a different radio fix this?

Hi everyone, I'm running CM10.0.0 Skyrocket with UCLD2 modem. I live in Jupiter, FL and when I am traveling through town and pass through areas that switch between HSPA, 3G, and 4G, I often have to toggle airplane mode to get data back. Is this due to my radio? I was doing research in the forum about the various radios and I couldn't find a definitive comparison of the various modems to each other with a chronology of release. I'd guess that newer modems are better, but then I read that sometimes that's not the case. Anyone care to weigh in on why I lose data connection when traveling through different data zones? btw i checked my APN settings and theyre fine.
I too run into the same issue but when I'm at work I know that if you running jb data loss has been known to be an issue with it yes the newer the modem can potentially fix or issue depending on situation best option is test

What particular modem are you using?
I'm open to suggestions from anyone for a modem to flash.

Flash them and see how it works for you. It takes all of 30 seconds

Sounds like a handoff issue. Try CI3

Thank you for the suggestion, I flashed it last night and so far so good.

Just an update, things still seem good with CI3 compared to my old radio. Only thing I notice is it doesn't really like 4G data, it'll say 4G and have good bars, and I can make and receive calls fine. But if I go online it'll stall, and I'll watch it struggle and then swap to H+ and be fine. That’s the only remaining quirk. Not sure why it's doing that.

I know no one is following this post at this point but I thought I'd post a final update about how i resolved the last issue I mentioned in the post above, just in case someone else has this same issue and searches the forum later.
I fixed my reception with 4G accidentally, i flashed the Lightning Zap v3 kernel to improve battery and lo and behold, reception hand off is fixed!!

I reverted back to an old radio because of issues with my old galaxy nexus,
I'm getting a S3 Thursday..i just started studying up on the s3 tonight..
I could never get 3g when my extender was in range, I can't remember about any calling issues ..so swap radios if its possible.

Can you elaborate on the error you are getting or what is happening?
I'm on nightly 3/17 10.1... and I make calls all day using a net extender. It says 'out of neighborhood' when I'm registered on it, but it works 100% in and outbound.
I'll see if changing radios fixes it and let you guys know. If not I'll test everything and give more details.

Good news: the problems fixed. Bad news: I have no idea how it got fixed. I didn't even get s chance to flash the radio

Anybody else having problem with cm 10.1

I just had to switch roms because It been getting the no sim and restrictive access data disable icon. Also i was getting to many signal drop with it. I make a phone call and boom my signal will dissapear went with synengy and I'm not having this problem anymore.

You should ask this in the CM10.1 thread since it's a ROM specific issue. No sense in making a new thread on this. You will probably get a better and quicker response there.

N5 and sprint network handover

After the latest S5 announcement I'm now ready for the n5. I am coming from S3 on sprint and for the time being I will stay with sprint. My question is...with Samsung s3 if I install a ROM any ROM CM for example the handover between LTE 3g 2g is sluggish I believe its because of some proprioty software (though I am not sure) is this an issue with the n5? Basically is this CDMA/LTE problem or Samsung?

Really nothing

Its a Sprint problem... Depends on the tower... Sprint used different hardware/contractors.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I understand that but the question surrounds the handoff when there is a custom ROM like CM. When using TW its an non issue. So my question is will the handoff be okay with N5 and CM because the N5 doesn't use the propriatory software Samsung does.

The short answer is yes...just not as bad..
Here is my experience:
I came from a Samsung galaxy nexus that I had about 4 different Roms loaded on. I could never find a 4.4 ROM that would do a good job on LTE/3g handoffs. My favorite ROM ended up being the Avatar 4.2 ROM.
With the gnex, I would be in a known 4g area but it would show 3g until I would cycle the airplane mode.
When I moved to the Nexus 5 three weeks ago, I was hopeful those issues would be over. Right now I'm rooted with the boot loader unlocked but running the stock ROM.
So. far I've tried 2 custom Roms but keep coming back to stock. I still notice the slow radio handoff but it is less frequent and not as often....but still there.
I hope that helps.
Yes it does ty.
