[Resolved] [Q]Getting Sim Toolkit (STK) to work on Custom ROM - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I am using ShenDu Custom DEV ROM on my Huawei U8860 (4.1.2-130329-DEV) and it doesn't come with Sim Toolkit.
I created a custom Zip that contains Stk.apk from another ROM, and flashed it. It flashes with no error, sets permission right but SimTookit app does not run. It is not in my list of apps or even running apps. find my signed ZIP attached.
Where could I have messed? P.S. I'm a noob

Solved the above thanks to this post by djnmcz.
You need to prepare a flashable zip with Stk.apk from similar ROM to yours, eg A ICS/Jellybean STK if you ROM is based on the same . Then extract the manifest (CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, MANIFEST.MF) from the META-INF of your current ROM (ROM your phone is running on) and replace the same files in your flashable zip. You can then flash the zip from CWMR. No need to sign the apk or zip. The rule here is that for Stk.apk to work, it has to have the same manifest as your phone.apk. No idea what happens if you replace phone.apk alongside Stk.apk instead in a zip.
Attached is my zip, you can use the update script, but remember to change the Stk.apk and especially the Manifest file.

I'm running a custom rom on my HTC One X+. Your solution makes sense but I' not clear. Do I need the manifest from the original ROM? I see the stk.apk that came with the custom rom and the manifest. What do I replace? How do I make a flashable zip?
Sorry - noobie.

No , you need the manifest from the ROM that you want to flash the STK to. If it came with the ROM, it should probably work?

You can extract this zip, then replace the STK with one from your phone model, but you have to replace the manifest files - (CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, MANIFEST.MF) from the META-INF folder of the ROM your phone is on (the one without toolkit). Zip the folder again, then reboot phone and flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1865210&d=1365355542

HTC One X+ AT&T
Custom ROM: Elegancia 5.3
ROM included STK.apk but SIM Toolkit is not visible as APP. I followed the instructions and created a flashable zip using the STK from Elegancia ROM, and the manifest files from this ROM. I was successful in flashing ZIP using TWRP recovery. Skipped MD5 files checking.
STK.APK can be found in system/app folder but SIM Toolkit is not visible in app drawer. I can find SIM Toolkit in Settings / Applications, but the app is checked as DISABLED and cannot be unchecked. This was the same behavior after I flashed the customer ROM.
I deleted the STK.apk from the system/app folder and flashed the zip file again. The STK flashed successfully and I can find it in the system/app folder but the behavior is still the same. SIM Toolkit is not visible.
Not sure what I did wrong?

Hi, did you ever get sorted? If not, you can attach your ROM and STK I see if I can compile a working solution.

I also need to get STK work on my SlimRom 4.3 for Samsung GT-I9100G Galaxy S2

Hi
First, I do apologize, I am a newbie and I cannot post links.
I have the same issue. I am using the latest SlimRom 4.3 for my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G
When I browse my apps with Link2SD for example, I see there is a SIM Toolkit com.android.stk version 4.3-910. See screenshot Screenshot_2013-09-20-18-55-27.jpg attached.
But the STK does not appear among the Apps.
I need to use the APP because I have bought from Magic-Sim an adapter, supposedly designed for GS2s, to run 2 Sims: MAGICSIM ELITE - NO CUT A DUAL SIM ADAPTER
In order to switch from Sim to Sim, I need to access the STK app.
MagicSim told me to Dial 007 from my phone and that would enable me to switch then from Sim 1 to Sim 2 just by dialing 001 or 002.
It does not work.
They also told me to save 007 on my local phone and to call it. It does not work as well.
So, is there a way of changing my STK?
I tried to install the latest version found in Aptoide: 5.1.2316262366.589212.571364, but it cannot install, on the grounds thre is another package with the same name but with a different signature.
Now, I know that my phone has detected 2 Sims. I am attaching a screenshot showing that the phone is detecting my Orange Sim as Sim-1 (which was not the case before installing the dual sim adapter).
I would be extremely grateful if I could get STK app or menu work on my phone.
All the best,
Chawki

What happens if you insert a SIM without the dual SIM thing, is it recognised? Did you flash your phone with a custom ROM before this started happening?

Sim works OK, just the STK I cannot access

Thanks for yhe reply. The Sim is OK, it works. The isse, I cannot access the STK menu.
Do you know any nice, pretty 4.3 Rom including STK for my I9100G that I could use. Most of the Roms I have checked do not contain STK (SlimBean, Cyanogenmod...)
Thanks

You have to create your own ROM with STK, just try finding a ROM with STK, preferable the same version (ie JellyBean, ICS). Then follow my guide above to create a flashable ZIP with STK. Seems the sTK has to be flashed with the same manifest file your dialer uses.

I used root explorer to copy stk.apk from e988 rom. Then replace your stk.apk in the zip above.
Copy and replace CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, MANIFEST.MF from meta if folder of Lgphone_jb.apk to the zip.
Then i flash it with cwm.
Result is: see attach file. Sim tool kit isnt avaiable in app drawer.
Did i do anything wrong? How can i fix it.
Thanks alot if you help me. And sorry for my bad english

Woiuld you be able to download SlimBean 4.3.1 build 2 Official for my I9100G, include there a compatible and working STK, share with me the new zip package? I am offering a good donation for that (more than USD 50).

I don't know why it is not working for you. Check if the permissions of the app (through File Manager) match permission of other apps.

I have downloaded your version of SlimBean and confirmed that it already comes with STK, so no need to upload or reflash it. What's issue are you having since the Sim toolkit should be working for you?

Also confirm the folders , you have to have STK.apk in a folder called app, inside another folder called System when flashing. The certs and manifest files should also be in their respective folders.
You can also try this hack, also copy phone.apk to the app folder such that your flash them together.

its has a right permission 6-4-4 now. Everything exactly the same as you said. But nothing's changed.
I think that we should do "something" in stk.apk, that would make it appear in app drawer. Because i have a flashable zip of vega ion a870, i just extract it, copy to system/app, set right permission and reboot=> stk appear

OK, folks!
For some unknown reasons a lot of users asking for a REAL ORIGINAL ROOTED ROM. This is a PD98IMG.ZIP file which is flashable via the boot loader.
Now I'll present you this ROM at this download:
http://www.multiupload.com/AURLLESU5V
- EVERYTHING is still ORIGINAL
- NOTHING has changed or added or modified at this ROM
- Bussybox is installed
- Toolbox is installed
- Superuser 3.07 is installed
The ONLY exception is the RECOVERY partition. I still like to use the 4ext to do some backups and other things. That's the reason why I keep this partition within the ROM.
Finaly here are common questions and answers about this ROM:
Q: How to update?
A: Just download the PD98IMG.zip and store it on your SDCARD. Unplug the batterie, plug it back and press the VOL-DOWN key for enter the bootloader. That's it.
Q: Does it work on every device?
A: Don't know. But it's working on every device with S-OFF
Q: This ROM is a peace of crap! Why the hell the "lib" folder is not within the "system" partition?
A: This question you should ask HTC. If you need the "lib" folder within the "system" partition please use an other image than this because this is ORIGINAL!
Q: Where I can add some support question about this ROM?
A: Use the trash bin because I will not give any support or add features or anything else to this ROM.
Q: Do you plan to do other things with this ROM?
A: NO!!!!!!!
Q: I love this ROM. But I want to do some changes and release this to the community. Is this O.K.?
A: From my point of view this ROM is Public Domain. Don't ask. Enjoy it and do it!
Regards!

multiupload is much better so its a plus =D
how can i root it, i unintentionally install it on my phone and i cant get rid of
U need to install the recovery.img from mike1986 ROM 6.1x
How to do?
Make a PD98IMG.ZIP file which contains the android file and recovery.img
Flash this and then install the superuser 3.07
But fyi - the lib folder is outside the system.img
So if you want to install additional things to this ROM it might be that this will not work.

the two that dont get deodexed is maps and google voice if im not mistaken. just replace them with the apk's from market. This happens for most all htc ruu's.
The important files still get deodexed though, and thats what matters.

u are spot on abt the 2 files that fail to de-odex.
need a clarify abt "just replace them with the apk's from market".... u mean, while de-odex, just remove the file and after flashing the rom, then install the 2 files from market...
or i need still to replace the file before zipping them back into roms?
anyway, thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Use whatever Rom you have on your device now, use a file explorer to get into /data/app and copy the Apk's specific to maps (com.google.maps) and voice (com.google.[somethingorother].voice) and copy em to your sd. Then plug in to pc, choose storage mode, and move em to your pc. Or if you're familiar with adb commands, you can go that route, but you need to know the exact filename of the Apk.

To get the HTC Emoticons "simply" replace the icons in the Framework-res.apk in the /system/framework on your phone.
Or thats what to do. I haven't managed to actually do that, I have Extracted the Framework-res.apk, and replaced the images (attachment), but rezipping and signing makes it faulty.

Recipe:
Get the framework-res.apk from the phone over to the pc. /system/framework
[In the tool I used you can do a adb pull for the file]
Extract it with the tool (see below)
[the tool I used creates a project from the file I pulled from the phone.]
open the extracted folder and paste the htc emoticons in the res/drawable-hdpi folder, you should get a overwrite dialog
[the emoticons are in the attachement in the first post.]
use the tool to zip it again, and as a system apk. (will use same signing)
[Then you have a signed framework-res.apk]
Make a Flashable zip.
open mine with 7zip, OPEN not extract. and overwrite the file in system/framework folder.
edit the META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script to write what you want. Then save.
I used the tool, Apk manager, this is for mac. This Apk Multi-tool is, as I have read, a good tool for windows users.

Sounds good, thanks for the walk through.
I will be releasing some Metamorphs I whipped up.... One of them will change the smilies in each respective apk. I will have one for the stock Android smilies and the HTC smilies so you can choose and easily have them on any rom of your choosing .
Edit: The Metamorphs will be for the users that are less likely to pull the framework the old fashion way and edit it. They are pretty user friendly. Also don't mean to be rude by posting in your thread. Just wanted people to know there will be alternatives to this method

Please do a nand-backup before flashing, Just in case. This worked on my device, and I hope it will on your's too.
Here are ClockWorkMod flashable zip-files, for custom ROMs. The framework-res files are exported from that custom rom and modified:

Noble 7.5

From what I got out of this it's specific to HTC devices, I've never really looked at anything for the SGS3 personally but you might be out of luck.

help with addind apk in data/app folder, not working

Hope some can help me out. I'm trying to add app to ROM zip so I don't need to install it manually. Have the ROM install itself when flashing it. I open the ROM zip with winRar and create a folder "data/app." I use Real APK Leecher app to download free app. I place apk in "data/app" folder. Flash the ROM w/TWRP v2.2.2.0 and none of the app got installed.
However, if i put all apk in "system/app" folder, it installed when flashing the ROM.
This is the ROM i use [ROM][S4] Virtuous Ville+ RC-1 | Sense 4+ | JB 4.1.1
Am i doing something wrong that's y "data/app" not install any apk?
thx

I have found adding a folder like that is not that easy which is a shame, think you have to edit something in the META-INF to get it to work but you could just put the apk in the system/app.
thanks Darknites.
Any different by putting in data/app or system/app?
Maybe this is old when i google. I also try to edit something so that "Unknown Source" enable itself when flashing. I google and saw somewhere in xda to edit xml which was locate inside SettingProvider.apk -->res-->values-->bools.xml
lol unfortunately there's no "value" folder in it...

Some apps don't like it for some reason so does need testing. Don't think its that I sure its in the folder I said. Its something I never looked in to because I use Titanium Backup for apps that don't work and/or have settings backed up with it.

Need some help regarding Odex Files and corresponding apks

Hi guys, I got this problem in my odexed stock rom, I have this problem in sysui, gallery and calculator.
I downloaded 4.2.2 style sysUI, pushed it in the respective folder by replacing with its stock sysUI.
I rebooted my core, the statusbar was gone, so I deleted 'SystemUI.odex" file, then rebooted it worked!
In the same way, I replaced stock gallery with note3 gallery, and stock SecCalculator2
Luckily note3 gallery worked, but it doesn't support Sim2 so I can't change Sim2's wallpaper or make it same as Sim1's.
In the statusbar, I can't see most notification cuz its completely transparent, and also its a bit laggy.
Calculator never worked
So I wanted to replace these with stock, when I pushed it in system>apps> I noticed that there were no .odex files for .apks
I replaced them with their stock odex files, none of 'em worked, I guess cuz of the odex thing, so I again deleted odex files and rebooted, nothing worked..
Now, I need some developer's advice, plz don't tell me to "Flash Stock Rom via Odin" I can't do it...
Is there any other left way to make them work plz I need help..
You are saying 'in my deodexed rom' and then you said 'deleted. Odex file for systemUI'
How could this be possible?
If you have .Odex files in system/apps folder then your ROM is not odexed.
Deodex it first using xUltimate tool
And yup Don't forget to set permissions = rw--r--r--

Sorry bro, huge typo. I meant in my odex rom and yes I set the proper permissions...
Well, it seems to me that you have messed up your phone alot.. Flashing stock rom via odin would've been the correct solution to this problem. It's not as difficult as you think, and you're capable of doing it. Follow thecoreguy's tutorial for that.

Then you have done wrong.
Not every apk can be used by just deleting the .odex file.
You need to deodex the apps in system/app and system/framework folder then you can easily replace the apks.
1.First restore back to any working backup.
2.Download xUltimate Tool.
3. Run it.
4. Then just run commands with options 1,2,3,4 (You just need to type 1 and then enter, then 2 and then enter, so on upto option 4.)
5. Exit after executing 4th option.
6. Download ADB tool(don't download the complete package, you will get a 1-2MB ADB.exe from the from itself) - Use it to push the deodexed files made from xultimate.

If you find it difficult then Better you upload the apks with their respective odex file. I will deodex those apks

Not even the stock apks? I want to replace the ported/modded apks with the stock ones..
No you can't because almost all stock apks have their respective odex files and every odex file contains resources that are needed to run those apks. Also there exists dependencies in system/framework folder. So just deleting odex file won't work all time.
Finally got it! Special thanks to megatron
Solution if u r screwed in my situation: don't panic, what I found why I cant do it was bcuz my phone has dat "newest" update of samsung ota. So b4 u take someone's apk and odex file always cross check this(image)
And then you are gud to go!!! U wont even need to restart it'll come automatically(my dad has same phone and same updated version as mine so I copied everything needed frm his phone to mine) @AnsleyC at times, the answer should not be "flash stock rom via ODIN" if u have a crappy pc, u can either repair faulty parts(easier and efficient) or buy a new one(bullcrap)
Have fun everyone!

I´ve flashed the zip, but there are no new fonts installed. Using lolipop on N9005. (The zip flashed correctly). Your apk has 200kb and his has 16mb. You have made a mistake.

I am using dr.ketan's L15 rom which is based on leaked lollipop rom for n900
Steps i do is:
1- flash your zip in TWRP then i got bootloop
2-replaced samsungsans.apk with stock one in order to get back from bootloop (permission changed accordingly) again bootloop
3- replaced samsungsans.apk with yours and changed permissions and the same result again...
Oooooooooo i think i found the problem just now, i found out that the rom is odexed so in system/app/sasmungsans folder there is another folder called arm in which there is samsungsans.odex.xz, so in this case i have to remove whole samsungsans folder in system/app cooy paste your apk and aet correct permissions... i will give it a try and will report.
