The CSC is the part of your rom that is specific to the local carrier, e.g. VOD for Vodafone. A list can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Csc) but is doesn't seem to have XAR or XAC.

XAR = Cellular South
XAC = N/A
Anyone figure this out?
There still hasn't been an answer as to exactly what the difference between XAR and XAC is.... Anyone figure this out yet?

The only thing I'm coming up with is XAR is possibly non modem or USA based and XAC is modem based and outside the USA

XAR is the version for USA. XAC is the version for Canada.
CSC explained, such as it is, incuding what XAR and XAC mean
Stock OTA update or roms (generally speaking) has to match your specific csc on your devices stock firmware build.
The three letters after the model number signifies: 4 meanings, all valid indicating very different things. The hard part is deciphering what your CSC means and how that effects primarily your ability to upgrade correct software, whats bundled in it and maybe a hint why your not getting a OTA update.
1) the country or region(s) a model was bundled for (often csc for a tablet identity) XAC Canada, XAR Cellular south of USA
2) The carrier product code is firmware bundeled by every cell provider . Each has thier own and a different csc code even when a parent company is servicing a different country or region(s) within a country, Think Virgin Mobile in Europe, UK, USA etc... .
3) The consumer specification code . These are either bundle software by options.. of say Samsung G3 vrs Samsung G3 lite, or Italian vrs English, or Both.... consumer type, app and use options... basically limitations or exceptions between software bundles for same basic model depending on where its being sold. You know, bells, whistles, cultures, even age, sex and race user groups can require important distinct features between standard stock builds multiplied by makes and models. Targeted software, use, design..
4) The customer product code. So you bought a device off web, on sale, not affiliated with any carrier, specific country or region, bulk generic bundles. Eg. travelling abroad with your tablet bought generically over here or buying a GS5 in Tokyo airport on your way home to USA.
Why is that a problem? Depends where you physically are, with a device from? With certain customisations or exceptions and how does OTA connect via unfamiliar local data access but foriegn from the csc perspective. USA CARRIER but Japenese csc...
I suck at explaining but read article I reference down below.... Burners are probably in this work around .
Be certain the build+model+csc is same before choosing a flash rom or upgrading your stock firmware. Odin, Kies etc will likely refuse to flash/sync/upgrade if there is a mismatch in csc more often than any other reason
Here is a helpful, current and informative blog by Wilma Dee that explains csc much better, some great work arounds, csc troubleshooting and major carrier code plus country code lists,
Since I'm new here, I dont know her, I wont post a link but I really feel this paper is worthy of XDA scrutiny and appreciation. Search Google with this title, posted April 15 2014.
How To Change the CSC Code on Samsung Galaxy S5
These are not complete lists, they are Samsung specific, GS5 specific. as she lists them and its alot.
Are the country codes at least unified between all brands? I dont know but not likely.
There are different brands, with differently configured tabs and cells, in different countries and several distinct regions within each country, many data carriers with subsiduary carrier companies in diferent countries, regions, languages, configurations etc etc etc.
No wonder answering what does CSC stands for, means for your device, lists of codes is so hard to do .

So I have this S7 International version and I've been reading a lot and realized that my CSC is ECT for Nigeria NG I'm thinking this could be why my data is so damn slow compared to my HTC.... Is there a way to change this and how would I go about changing it... I'm on MetroPCS (T-Mobile) in the USA.
Thanks
go to sammobile . com and download the firmware you want and use Odin to install. Theres plenty of other software, whether it's UK, Luxemburg or any other. Plus you can get the latest April security update
I just wonderin what's the best country, I was thinking Austria T-Mobile but honestly I don't know much about Foriegn carriers
But seriously I waited 4 hours for a 2GB file to not gethalf way done I just stuck my sim in my HTC and it's halfway done in 5 minutes
Make sure whatever you download is of the 930F variant and not any of the snapdragon firmware. Most US based ones are of snapdragon type.
I know that I was just wondering if it matters what country I download whether it's Austria or Germany Poland UK etc
Holy crap this has fixed everything. I now for the first time have an LTE signal. Unfortunatly it's not rooted anymore but I"ll take being able to use the internet over having a linux distro on my phone any day
Glad to hear you sorted the problem. Best way to select ROMs is to look for countries with matching LTE bands to your carrier. Most likely case is that CSC might limit bands or do something on that area.
I have a greymarket import S7 Duos with the CSC OJV (which is either middle east or africa depending on the source) and it still hasn't received the June firmware update. I'd like to switch my CSC to get timely firmware updates. Does it make any difference which CSC I use? Is there any that would be best based on update timeliness and/or compatibility with US carriers (T-Mobile/AT&T)?
Also, is there any way to download stack firmware images direct from Samsung rather than going through shady third parties?

Hi mate
The thing is you need updates for a G930FD , all the available firmware are from this countries at the moment

India is a good option as they get updates very often , compatibility? if your phone is working fine now it should work fine with any of this...
CSC change, you have to do a factory reset
Check this thread , it shows you how to change csc or flash a newer firmware without waiting for the update (odin) BUT you should do it with G930FD firmware there they use G930F firmware , the basics are the same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3369431
This thread says that the single sim firmware and dual sim firmware are interchangeable. Am I misunderstanding something?
As far as carrier compatibility, the phone works, but I don't have visual voicemail. Also not sure if I'm missing other features like VoLTE.
The Spain firmware has wifi calling and Samsung pay. I don't know if you can make wifi calling work but you can tweak Samsung pay for USA market.

Same here. On the FD version.. My problem is dual SIM not really working. Yes, I have two numbers and. That's about it. Data doea not work. Disabling SIM2 and. SIM1 works LTE on AT&T. No VoLTE obviiusly so I can't comment about it. With an xposed module, my Android pay works. You will most. Likely won't be able to make Samsung Pay work. I did a massive reading and can't tell you one person that was able to set it up and use it in a store . my advice to you is forget about OTA. Don't be scared about the Knox bit, trip it, and install TWRP and a custom ROM. those get normally the latest firmware in them, with recent security patches, and some of them are even OTA by themselves. You can also hey rid of tons of bloatware this way. I wouldn't bother dealing with changing CSC from Egypt to India. Since you are already at XDA I guess you know what to do.

If you boot into download mode, the phone will even display G930F as its model number. You can run F firmware on an FD without issue. As for the dual SIM working, I haven't tested it, but I did read that SIM1 has full connectivity, while SIM2 is limited to 2G/3G. You can't have two 4G SIMcards active at the same time.
I'm running Samsung pay perfectly fine on UAE firmware. Samsung pay is unfortunately firmware dependent. However, if you trip KNOX you're not going to be able to use Samsung Pay ever again. And to be completely honest, if you're not using Samsung pay, you shouldn't be using an S7; get yourself a better phone like the G5/Nexus/V10/Moto X. The S7 lacks a lot that other phones bring to the table, assuming that you don't care much for photo quality.

Would wifi calling work on US T-MOBILE?
Same question here. I'm using Tracfone and T-Mobile sim cards, and my G930FD is from United Arab Emirates. There is a Islamic calendar in the S Planner which I was unable to get rid of, so I found the UK firmware and CSC from Sammobile. After flashing those files to phone, the Wifi calling and Samsung Pay still won't work. Otherwise the UK firmware works fine, since there's no bloatware or funny stuff(like calendar from other country). Dual sim works with no issue too. Still hope to find a better CSC file for Samsung Pay and Wifi Calling.
My G930FD is a Singapore set and Samsung Pay has been available for quite a while now.
I recently flashed the UK BTU firmware, seems to have less bloat but Samsung Pay isn't available, side loading didn't seem to work either.
I flashed the UK firmware hoping to get faster security patches, so far still on July. But not sure if just me, but phone feels a bit snappier and fingerprint sensor seems more accurate on July vs June's.
Where are you all getting the stock firmware for different countries?

When you had the Singapore firmware, did you actually use Samsung Pay successfully? I have a 930FD that is for the UAE, but Samsung Pay wasn't on it and it didn't work when I sideloaded it. I flashed it to the the BTU version and was able to sideload it and log in, but it won't take any of my credit cards here in the USA. Also, the signal strength on AT&T is much weaker than another phone that I have that is made for the American market.
Should I try to find a firmware that is still located in the same region as the UAE with Samsung Pay and without the annoying bloatware the UAE mandates for their phones? Would India be good?

Samsung Pay worked when I was on the SG firmware. It also worked when I flashed the Australia unbranded firmware, even though I was in Singapore. By working I mean I'm able to add cards, make contactless transactions and so on.
So Pay should work on any firmware that it's officially available in, regardless where you use it.
I would try Australia, minimal bloat. F / FD firmwares work interchangeably.
I have purchased an unbranded G930F from B&H for use on AT&T in the U.S. The phone currently seems to work fine with AT&T LTE, here is what I've determined using Phone Info and About Phone:
Country: Panama
Product code: TPA
PDA: G930FXXS1APG3
CSC: G930FUUB1APEQ
Baseband: G930FXXU1APEQ
Now I'd like to reflash my phone using Odin to fix some software issues from OTA updates not resolved by factory reset. From what I gather, I think the proper thing to do is flash the latest firmware from SamMobile (any region) and extract HOME_CSC from the current Panama firmware. I've read a lot of other guides and threads but a lot of similar questions are unanswered or refer to deleted posts on other sites. So here goes:
1. Does CSC affect my phone automatically working with AT&T LTE in the U.S.? Should I make sure to keep using the Panama CSC since it seems to be working, or does it not matter? If it does, is there a list of certain CSCs that are compatible with AT&T LTE or a specific preferred CSC for AT&T users? Does the CSC need to be for the same model S7 (ie. can I flash a CSC from a Snapdragon model firmware with a G930F firmware)? (found out that requires root, which defeats the point of remaining stock/untripped KNOX)
2. Will flashing a more up-to-date firmware for a different region also change the baseband, or can I safely flash a new firmware while leaving the baseband intact? Similarly, will flashing a more up-todate firmware/baseband for a different region possibly break AT&T LTE? Are only some basebands compatible with AT&T?
3. I don't have Samsung Pay on my device, but I found mixed info saying that UAE and UK firmware include working Samsung Pay. Are those the only ones that do and will either of those affect AT&T LTE functionality or other software features? It's not critical but would be nice to have.
4. I see some custom firmwares list VoLTE support, are there any stock firmwares that do that would be AT&T compatible? Once again, not critical but it would be nice. (seems it's not worth the hassle)
As far as I know, there aren't any firmwares for the G930F that lock out the AT&T bands. You're fine using AFR, XSG (UAE's firmware), and AMO for your csc to use samsung pay. AMO (Spain) has the whitepages feature if you should want it, but I think that MST pay in AMO doesn't work (I don't use that firmware, so can't confirm). I use UAE's firmware and have no issues with the latest release and pay/framework. I've made plenty of MST payments all with no issues. To my knowledge, your baseband firmware does not need to be preserved at all. I recommend you do a complete reïnstall of the UAE firmware and flash everything to avoid issues. I'm on AT&T and have yet to have had any signal issues.
As an aside, only the USA has "4g LTE". The rest of the world calls it 4G. Your status bar indicator for data strength will always show 4G in international ROMS for this reason. In case you were wondering, "4G HSPA" is actually 3G or H/H+ in the rest of the world. United States carriers rewrote the definition of data speeds in the united states so that they can get away with selling lesser services than the rest of the world. Telecoms in the USA are among the worst in the world, so congrats :victory:

I'm new to the forum and phones in general. This was helpful but I'd like to ask a few questions to clarify.
I purchased 2 phones off eBay for use on at&t. One of them came with a UAE baseband G930FXXU1BPJG and one came with G930FXXU1APB4 (which I can't find any info on) The second.. APB4 displays LTE, but the UAW firmware only shows 4G. I just assumed it was not using LTE, but your post seems to indicate that it might be. I never actually ran a speed test, which I will do.
1. How can I get the APB4 on both? I haven't been able to find a download for that or even a google result.
2. Why did the AT&T rep have to manually change my IMEI number in their computer to one for an AT&T s7 before the UAE firmware would even negotiate 4G (it was stuck on H) ?
3. If download speeds on the UAE phone aren't LTE do you have any other ideas I can try?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Which carrier could that firmware be from?

I hoped to have found a carrierfree version. But if it is one of these, i did not
The firmware isn't a universal one, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's carrier locked.
I know my replies can be long, but would rather give too much info, than not enough.
I am actually searching for a version, that offers the esim scan option like the german vodafone one. And then i would like to check if the esim scan changes the provider presettings concering the right esmim profile as well. Or I could found the vodafone firmware but i had no sucess yet.
Actually any version that allows the qr scan of esims would be enought in order to check if it allows carrier changing as well by changing the the esim profile. Or I would have to find my the german vodafone firmware, but I did not have sucess yet.
Hello all, new here! Never rooted a device, I'm very technical and confident but would like to ask the question as to why I'm looking to root or change CSC.
Currently my S22 ultra 512 is a Dual sim Hong Kong purchased device. TGY is the current CSC, basically I'd like to use the esim option and phones sold in Asia specifically China, Hong Kong & Macau at least I'm told have this disabled. My note20 ultra dual sim is the same. By changing csc/firmware can I enable this feature that other s22s have? Basically is there another s22 with identical hardware dual SIM and all that I can put on the phone that will enable this feature? I'd like call recordeding if possible as a phone feature rather app but it's not important. I'll attach screen shots of what versions I currently have. Sorry if I'm asking the wrong questions I'm technical but new to android rooting.. Willing to PayPal or donate to anyone who can assist me through the process. SM-S9080 TGY I know the Taiwan sold device is basically the same hardware but have not received a clear answer if esim is enabled, thinking no but figured I'd mention it. I'd also like to do the same to my Note20 Ultra. Thanks in advance

Hi Guys, someone can confirm if CSC TGY have esim activated on S22 ultra SM-S9080? o wich carrier could have it?
I'm having exactly the same issue... just tried out the HK and CN variant. Both don't an eSIM support.
However, I've also read somewhere that Samsung has "dropped" the eSim support in on of the recent Firmware versions, because the had too much trouble with that.
So the quesetion is: Is this a regional issue (e.g. TGY, etc.) or is is a "Version" issue (e.g. an earlier version still might have it)
Best!

hi i have a s9080 hk model and tried flashing the s908e/ds firmware through odin buy kept getting failed partition error
i want to share my experience with my note9, it was the N variant - South Korea, i had network issues in which case i had to root my phone and install a custom rom which had csc of my country and i worked great.
if you could do with a rooted phone follow this:
1. check if your phone is listed as rootable.
2. check if your phone has a custom rom:
if YES you could see or ask for what you need ( in the Rom's forum or the developer).
if NO wait and keep researching.
dont flash another region firmware even if its the "same phone" you might break the phone.
Okay, quick info: I've flashed all three regions (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan) on the SM-S9080 (current firmware versions june to Sep) and none of them have eSIM support.
This is really annoying - especially when all the offical samsung websites praise that the phone supports esim.
I'm personally pretty pissed off and the key reason is that I know that other users of the same phone in other regions of the world can use it and I'm not able to do this, because the programmers just want to make their lives easy and "silently" drop this feature from the firmware.
Something similar happened about 15 years back with a Sony device and since then I've never ever bought anything from Sony again (neither phone nor anything else). So the same is probably going to happen with Samsung.

When you flash a different CSC, I read that since basically the firmware reads your sim, grabs the CSC from that, that if you leave it out, on the boot up screen before you start the setup, you can hold Volume down, I believe or some button combo to skip through set up so you don't need a SIM to complete it.. then you have the actual firmwares original CSC and not the one that was read from your SIM card.. Cuz if not no matter what firm u are you flashing, if your SIM card is in there and you run set up it's going to go by that. The firms are supposedly all the same but what's changes is the CSC each time.. now overseas, United States, snapdragon vs Exyno it's a different story. They do have different firmware's...
But I do know that the phones are basically all universally the same all the same hardware but it's the firmware the software that does all the matter of difference... Including the bootloader for instance. We all have the same hardware but I can't unlock mine it's software there that can do it.. if I find the site up forward it for you.. have you gone into the service mode after enabling it? There's a bunch of crap you can do in there that has to do with antennas and SIM cards and ESIM stuff you might just need to enable something.

There's a bunch of crap you can do in there that has to do with antennas and SIM cards and ESIM stuff you might just need to enable something.

What I've (think to have) learned so far:
There are two different hardware combinations: (a) the snapdragon variant and (b) the Exynos combination. For each combination, there are differernt firmwares available
Each firmware (e.g. SN-S9080) is a special combination of modem-settings, software configuration, etc. that is geared to optimize the phone performance and battery consumption
For each firmware, you have then certain CSC variants, wihch then further add which apps are available, etc. (for example in the Taiwan variant, Google is available, while in the China Mainlaind variant it is not)
During the first-time installation process, you can choose the language of the phone (and maybe also the CSC), but you can't change the firmware
Therefore, my problem is this: I've tried all the CSCs which are available for m firmware (SN-S9080) but none has eSIM support. Now I want to flash a differetn firmware (e.g the SM-S908E firnware), but Odin currently doesn't let me flash this onto my phone.
Does anyone have a guidline of how to flash a SN90E firmware onto a phone which currently runs a SN-S9080 firmware?
Best!

i think the chinese s9080 is locked down only because you cant flash other firmware like other models most secret codes like to change bands dont work and this model took agesto get one ui 5.0 update
Well, I can flash different CSC variants, e.g. the Taiwan or the HK variant (and these are not multi-CSC firmwares, but seperate files).
However, does anyone have an idea of how to flash e.g. the S908E firmware onto a phone that is currently running S9080?
I was able to flash all files of the S9080 variant (including BL - the boot loader), so that means that the phone is *not* locked, right?
I've tried to click the repartitioning option (because the S908E is bigger than the S9080), but that also didn't help.
Do I maybe really need need to "root" the phone first for flashing another firmware? This doesn't sound logicall, so I tried to avoid rooting so far ...
Any ideas or a link to a "how to" is warmly welcome ...

Including the bootloader for instance. with an without SIM card didn't make a dfference. The firmware files for 9080 are all single CSCs anyway.
So after more than five weeks of trying around, I finally have to say that it seems impossible to enable eSIM on a 9080 (i.e. the version bought in China).
I've tried so many things by now (the VN Rom, the Dr Ketan Rom, switching CSC to Hong Kong or Taiwan, etc.).
So my conclusion is this: You have two options
a) Don't buy a Samsung Galaxy phone at all
b) If you really want to by a Samsung, then buy on from a region where there are the least restrictions on your firmware in the first place.
Everything afterwards turns into frustration.
